Integration Services :: Converting A String Percent Value To Decimal
Oct 12, 2015
I am reading a data source where all data in a given column is held as a string containing a percent value with 2 decimal points:
03.52%
12.32%
92.10%
80.05%
27.92%
100.00%
[...]
etc...
I need to convert these into decimal values with up to four decimal points, like this:
0.352
0.1232
0.9210
0.8005
0.2792
1.0000
I am trying to use the derived column editor but since I am fairly new to this, I am getting my wires crossed. c
1. Remove the % sign from the string -- not sure if I should use TRIM, or REPLACE
2. Divide the value by 100 -- but don't I need to do some sort of type casting first?
3. Do a cast to convert whatever I got into the correct decimals -- perhaps this isn't required if I did step 2 as a typecast to decimals already?

I have SQL Server 2012 SSIS. I have Excel source and OLE DB Destination.I have problem with importing CustomerSales column.CustomerSales values like 1000.00,2000.10,3000.30,NotAvailable.So I have decimal values and nvarchar mixed in on Excel column. This is requirement for solution. However SSIS reads only numeric values correctly and nvarchar values are set as Null. Why?
CREATE TABLE [dbo].[Import_CustomerSales](
 [CustomerId] [nvarchar](50) NULL,
 [CustomeName] [nvarchar](50) NULL,
 [CustomerSales] [nvarchar](50) NULL
) ON [PRIMARY]

Hi,
I'm trying to import a text-file into SQL2005 by using SSIS. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work in the way I thought. Because I'm using the german version of SQL2005 I need to translate the items of my toolbox, so dont wonder if their names are not exactly the same as in the english versions.
Try number1:
a) My datasource is a flatfile, in the connection manager I changed the DataType for the input column to DT_DECIMAL. In my destination table the data type of ths column is decimal(20,4). Name of the column is "NXT_PUT_PX".
b) Running this package results in this error:
"Fehler bei der Datenkonvertierung. Die Datenkonvertierung für die NXT_PUT_PX-Spalte gab den Statuswert '2' und den Statustext 'Der Wert konnte aufgrund eines möglichen Datenverlustes nicht konvertiert werden.' zurück. Fehlercode: 0xC0209084. "
Translation of this is something like:
Error by converting data. Converting data for column NXT_PUT_PX returned state '2' and text 'Value couldn't be converted because of a potential loss of data'.
Try number2:
a) same as try number1
b) Adding a datatransformation-task (Datenkonvertierung), and set NXT_PUT_PX to be converted to DT_DECIMAL wirh SCALE 20.
c) Assigning this converted column to the destination column.
d) Running the package results in the same error as described above.
Try number3:
Same as try number 2 but the input column for my flatfile is now DT_WSTR with width 50.
Running this results in the same error message as above, but different errorcode. Errorcode is 0xC020907F.
Any hints how to do this conversion correct?
Best regards,
Jan Wagner

Hello!
I´m having some trouble converting values represented as strings to the decimal data type.
I have a flat file source, from where I read some currency rates represented without decimals.
Before sending those values to my SQL Server destination, I want to convert them to represent correct values.
An example to clarify:
If my source contains a column named "curr_rate" with the value 000092500 I want to send it
to my destination as 9,2500.
So I set up a Dervied column component, converting my value like so:
((DT_NUMERIC,9,4)curr_rate)/10000
My problems is that the precision is lost, and all that´s sent to my destination table is 9,0000.
How should I go about to convert my strings without losing precision in the process?
Thanks in advance!

Is it possible to convert for the following SQL statement into SSRS Expression:
SELECT
RIGHT('00' + CONVERT(VARCHAR(2), FLOOR(SUM(Hours))), 2)
+ ':' + RIGHT('00' + CONVERT(VARCHAR(2), FLOOR((SUM(Hours) - FLOOR(SUM(Hours))) * 60)), 2) + ':' + RIGHT('00' + CONVERT(VARCHAR(2),
FLOOR((SUM(Hours) - FLOOR(SUM(Hours))) * 60 - FLOOR((SUM(Hours) - FLOOR(SUM(Hours))) * 60)) * 60), 2)
FROM TableTime
For example I need SSRS expression for converting 1.75 hours into 01:45:00.

I have a decimal data type column with a record in the following format 20150219 --> yyyyMMdd. And I am trying to convert the return value from SSRS date/time parameter to a decimal value.
The TMDTOP column is the decimal data type with date records in yyyyMMdd format.
My return parameter is the following:
=IIf(IsNothing(Parameters!SystemDate.Value),Fields!TMDTSY.Value,CDec(Format(Parameters!SystemDate.Value,"yyyyMMdd")))Â
When I try to run the report I get the following error:
Failed to evaluate the FilterValue of the DataSet ‘DataSet1’. (rsFilterEvaluationError)

Hello!
I would like to cast (convert) data type decimal(24,4) to
decimal(21,4). I could not do this using standard casting function
CAST(@variable as decimal(21,4)) or CONVERT(decimal(21,4),@variable)
because of the following error: "Arithmetic overflow error converting
numeric to data type numeric." Is that because of possible loss of the
value?
Thanks for giving me any advice,

IÂ have a csv file and I would like to load this file by SSIS in SQL Server.
One column of this file contains xml infos (it is about 60000 charachter), and I would like to have an xml column in Table in SQL Server.
From here the only ssis types, which able to contain so much character are DT_NTEXT and DT_TEXT.
If I want to have xml type in the target table in sql server, these both DT_NTEXT and DT_TEXT should be converted to DT_WSTR.
The Problem is:Â DT_WSTRÂ can only contains 4000 charcters. In my situation with this infos, I can't have an xml column in target table in sql server.

I'm editing an SSIS package. The source column has datatype float and the data is stored like 1,2 instead of 1.2. To change this into a period instead of comma there is a derived column step in the ssis package. The expression in this derived column step to change this goes as:<o:p></o:p> (DT_STR ,32,1 252)(REPLACE((DT_STR,32,1252)SUBSCHAAL_SCORE,",","."))<o:p></o:p>
where SUBSCHAAL_SCORE is the name of the column. As you see the data is converted into a string. I need it to be converted into a numeric datatype (18,6) instead of string/varchar but it must also handle the first issue with changing the comma into a period. <o:p></o:p>

Hi all,
I am designing some reports for a German branch of my company and need to replace decimal point with a comma and the thousand comma seperator with a decimal point.
e.g.
‚¬1,500,123.00 to ‚¬1.500.123,00
Is there a property that I can change in the report designer to allow this to happen or is this something I need to convert in a Stored Proc.
Any help would be much appreciated
Thanks!

I am using rowVersion to detect rows that need to be re-extracted for my ETL. Â The first step in the ETL is to get MIN_ACTIVE_ROWVERSION() from the database, as well as the rowVersion from the last successful ETL run. Â Both of these values are saved in variables in SSIS. Â Since SSIS doesn't have an associated data type, these values are converted to nvarchar(512) before getting sent to SSIS. Â
I'm now trying to create a stored procedure to grab the data out of the source system. Â The sproc takes RowVersionMin and RowVersionMax as input parameters. Â Those parameters are then converted to varbinary(max), and I use them in a query to select the appropriate rows.
When I run the sproc in SSMS, it runs without a problem. Â However, when I try to use the sproc as a data source in SSIS, I get the following error: "Error converting data type nvarchar to varbinary". Why SSIS has a problem with this, but SSMS does not? Â The sproc code looks like this:
ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[dw_DimComment_DataLoad]
@RunType varchar(3),
@RowVersionMin nvarchar(512),
@RowVersionMax nvarchar(512)
AS
BEGIN
-- SET NOCOUNT ON added to prevent extra result sets from
[Code] ....

I have a SSIS package which is reading from an Excel file.Â
The Excel is created from a report from another system and sometimes the date of birth formats as a Date and sometimes as string.
I've added a data viewer so I can see how the columns are read as soon as SSIS reads the file.Â
When the cell in Excel is set as text its read correctly - I can then convert to a date as necessary
When the cell in Excel is set as date its read in US format! i.e. if it was 01/13/2014 in excel its read as 13/01/2014
How can I get round this? Its not an option to manually force the column to be text once exported from the system as my package picks this up automatically.
I have triedÂ
-Regedit set typeguessrows = 0
-IMEX = 1 in connection string
-Set LocaleID = UK in the data flow task to read from Excel

I have a stored proc that is being executed from an OLE DB Source component in my Data Flow. Takes one input parm, has several variables declared within, a derived table which is used in a join and all within a try catch block with transaction handling. No updates, just returning data, works great, except now I have been asked to replace these stored procs with inline queries.
ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[usp_Get_Test]
(
@numberOfMonthsint
)
AS
BEGIN
SET NOCOUNT ON
set transaction isolation level read uncommitted
[Code] ....
The problems I have run into so far are...
SQL command text in OLE DB Source Editor does not like:
- TRY/CATCH block
- Will not let me use my input parm (@numberOfMonths int)
- When I hard code in my input parm (select  @BeginDate = dateadd(MONTH, -1, GETDATE())) I can parse query and run the step but no results are returned. So I am let to assume that it does not like the @TESTY derived table.
The query here as a sample has had pivots removed as well, but research suggests this should be an issue in the SQL command text.
Also, I know not even to try the Build Query... cause it will complain about any variable declarations (i.e., declare @BeginDate datetime).
For instance, can I pull this off with an Execute SQL Task? The problem is I don't see this available in the toolbox for the Data Flow.Â
Also, would my error handling be done in the Event Handlers tab now and if so, is there a good example of this?

I have a several servers that i want to pull data from.I put the connection string in a OBJECT variable that come from configuration table and use it in the for loop mapping the value to local variable called connectionstring, this variable is the expression for the connection string property. So far everything is working as expected.
my problem is that on my development i put my local server in the connection string variable so i will be able to connect to the server so i will be able to map source to destination.
When i deploy the solution to production the data in the configuration table is different obviously but i get a connection error that saying that it try to connect to my dev server.why?

I wrote in derived column expression:

which is giving error :
[Derived Column 1 [5452]] Error: The "component "Derived Column 1" (5452)" failed because error code 0xC0049064 occurred, and the error row disposition on "output column "Start Date" (5650)" specifies failure on error. An error occurred on the specified object of the specified component.Â
How to write the expression in derived column to handle null value as well.

I am trying to upload data from CSV to Sql table. I have a column as 'arrived_date' value '13:45' etc and while trying to load data i am getting error as "data conversion failed ,truncation may occur while loading data". In flat file connection this column datatype is string but in my table datatype is as time(). There is a error with conversion. I tried to change data type in advanced editor but no use. Using data conversion after flatfile makes my error disappear but it is giving error right at the file not even going through from file?

I have my SSIS package that reads elements from a Sharepoint list to a SQL table. The data type of my source is string and the destination is integer. The source column can sometimes be an empty string "" (not a required column)
Which expression to use and "where" or "what" SSIS component can I add this expression to? Like I know that I can use the "Conditional Split" to filter the data so for my expression which component can I use?

In my source table, I have columns FirstName and LastName, both of datatype nvarchar. In my dataflow, I created two new derived columns mapped to these two columns. When pushing data to the source, I noticed that the FirstName column had a value of NULL while LastName was just an empty string (for rows that did not have any value).
My question is, why my source table column FirstName is showing a NULL value when the derived column datatype is string and the source is string? It should just be showing an empty string right?
