Integration Services :: Could Not Open Global Shared Memory To Communicate With Performance DLL

Nov 17, 2009

I am getting the following warning for my SSIS08 package: Could not open global shared memory to communicate with performance DLL; data flow performance counters are not available.  To resolve, run this package as an administrator, or on the system's console. I did check Warning in SSIS 2008 , but didn't find any solution. The package processes data and executes fine , but why do I see this warning? When I run this package on my machine, I see no such warning, it's only when I deploy it to our DEV SSIS server, I get this warning.

SQL 2012 :: Could Not Open Global Shared Memory To Communicate With Performance DLL

Apr 22, 2014

Getting the following warning in SSIS - SQL 2012:

[SSIS.Pipeline] Warning: Could not open global shared memory to communicate with performance DLL; data flow performance counters are not available. To resolve, run this package as an administrator, or on the system's console.

Microsoft had a fix for SQL Server 2008.

How to get around this in SQL 2012?

SQL 2012 :: Warning - Could Not Open Global Shared Memory

Jun 28, 2012

Apparently this error was fixed in CU12 for SQL 2008, but it seems to have raised it's head again in SQL 2012.[SSIS.Pipeline] Warning: Warning: Could not open global shared memory to communicate with performance DLL; data flow performance counters are not available. To resolve, run this package as an administrator, or on the system's console.

I've got a client who is seeing it. but I've not seen a fix in CU1 or CU2 for 2012.

Integration Services :: Shared Memory Provider - Timeout Error 258 / Communication Link Failure

Apr 1, 2014

When running the etl I'm getting the error: <SSIS Task>: Shared Memory Provider: Timeout error [258] ; followed by the message "Communication link failure".

What is special about this message that it happens on a SQL Execute task (random task) and the Timeout is after 2 minutes.

When executing the packages separatly it is working fine. The SQL Tasks that are failing are also quit heavy, but reasonable and takes between >2min and 10 - 15 min. Statements are stored procedures that puts an index on 3 mil. records or update statements,...

I had a look to all my (SSIS-etl) timeouts and they have the default value 0, the "remote query timeout" of the server is set to 10 minutes. According to me, these are the only one that exists?

There are 2instances on the server each instance has 24GB allocated, the server has 64 in total. Also when the etl runs (that results in an error) no other etl is running on the 2 instances. I'm working with the oledb sql server native client11.0 provider : SQLNCLI11.1.

Now it may or may not matter how I run the package but the following warning has been generated :-

[SSIS.Pipeline] Warning: Warning: Could not open global shared memory to communicate with performance DLL; data flow performance counters are not available. To resolve, run this package as an administrator, or on the system's console.

Integration Services :: Process Data In-memory From A Script

May 11, 2015

I have worked in other ETL tools. So, i am trying to figure out how to do thefile decryption and process the data in memory using SSIS.I am using SSIS on Azure VM and my source files are on Azure storage. The files are encrypted and we are trying to use Phython script to decrypt the files and pass it to SSIS. I found out that Execute Process task can call the Phython script. However, i would like to get the decrypted data from the file and pass it to the next task (control flow) in SSIS without saving it as a file (in-memory). I found that execute process task output can be stored as a Standard Output Variable  or to an object. Will this work or do I need to follow any other methods (since we need the entire file to be sent for additional processing).

Integration Services :: How To Make SSIS Package To Utilize More Memory

Jan 15, 2013

i have a nightly job (SSIS Package) scheduled using MS. The package loads data from the OLTP db to the warehouse. The server has 256GB memory and out of which 211GB is free.

the job runs w/o any problems but some times it fails with the following error"DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005.

An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft SQL Native Client" Hresult: 0x80004005 Description: "The statement has been terminated.".

An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft SQL Native Client" Hresult: 0x80004005 Description: "Violation of PRIMARY KEY constraint '<var>PrimaryKeyName</var>'. Cannot insert duplicate key in object '<var>TableName</var>'.".

When i researched this error i found out that its because of the memory issue. we have 222GB free memory and how come this is possible. Is there a way in the package or anywhere else where i can specify how much (percentage) of the memory that the SSIS package should use (something like SSRS threshold levelp).

Integration Services :: SSIS Cannot Open Datafile When Executed From Remote Host

Aug 19, 2015

I have seen several problems posted where an SSIS package writes a file successfully when executed manually, but fails when executed via SQL Agent job..I have the opposite problem. I'll try to lay it out succinctly: SSIS writes to a file on a shared folder, specified as HostAShare, for example. I created the share and gave full control to Everyone (out of frustration).I'm working from HostA via RDP, connected to the DB on DBHost via SSMS.If I kick off a SQL Agent job that executes the package, it works fine. (SQL job is running under SQL Server Agent Service Account). If I execute the job interactively (logged in to SSMS with Windows Auth), it fails with "Error: Cannot open the datafile "HostASharefilename.ext""We did find that if I RDP directly to the DBHost, I am able to execute manually. Also, if I try executing an xp_command shell command to write a file to the share, it works. (When RDP's into HostA with an SSMS connection to DBHost under my windows domain auth, as above.)The problem is the same when I RDP to any remote host.

Integration Services :: Open Excel File In Bad Format And Resave To New Sheet

Aug 17, 2015

I have a foreach loop that is processing all .xls files then moving them to a processed directory.Problem is that when I try to open the original file which is in .xls 97-2003 format, it's giving me a file error that SSIS could not read.  Found out the problem was called Extension Hardening.  I fixed it in the registry according to a website I found and I thought about writing a Batch file or Script to handle it, however SSIS still can't read unless I open and "save-as" to another format.  It even works if I still save it in 97-2003 format just has to be a different file. How can I open and resave the files (all excel files in directory through a loop) and rename them the same?

For example:
Original file named "ABCDEFG_08_15_2015.xls"

Can I loop through all files in the directory and name each one differently say "REVISED_ABCDEFG_08_15_2015.xls" so I can read them through SSIS?I think I need a @filename variable or something for that..

I can't figure this out, but needless to say the package errors with a NEEDSNEWMETADATA when I try and run it.

Integration Services Extraction/loading Throughput/performance

Apr 28, 2006

I'm new to integration services.
I want to create a centralized reporting system for our customers. Some customers have up to 1,000 sites and some are expected to grow past 5,000 sites. The sites are running POS applications and I want to extract the POS sales data from these sites. Is it practical to expect that SSIS can handle the extraction of data from this many sites and load the data into a central
SQL database? The POS sales data at the sites is stored in SqlExpress databases but the data is also available in XML format.
If it's practical for Integration Services to do this, what frequency is it possible to pull this data?
I realize that the amout of data is relative but just wondering if anyone is attempting to do this with integration services.
If not with integration services, then what method(s) are available and used to extract data from this many remote sites?

SQL 2000 Not Listening On Shared Memory. Why Not?

Apr 18, 2007

One of my production SQL Server 2000 systems is listening on TCP and Named Pipes, but not on Shared Memory.

This server has a lot of scheduled jobs that are internal to this box. I assume these jobs would benefit from using shared memory instead of TCP/IP, but I can't figure out why it doesn't use shared memory already and how to correct that.

Thanks in advance for all assistance.

Integration Services :: Parameterized Bulk Copy - Disabling Indexes For Performance Causes Timeout Exception

Sep 23, 2015

My requirement is to sling a rowset from one place in SQL server into a table in another place in the most performant way. I want this to be parameterizable -  I want to provide just a connection string and some SQL for the source and a connection string and a table name for the destination.  The package should do the rest.

The solution I chose was an 2014 SSIS package with source and destination as ADO.NET connections configured from project variables.  The package has a script task to bulk copy the data.  For performance I disable the non-clustered indexes first.

But this performance precaution causes the bulk copy to timeout after delivering the correct rowcount to the destination table. What I can do to avoid this error?

Here's my script code:

//get hold of the source and a data reader from it
SqlConnection sqlconnSource = new SqlConnection();
sqlconnSource = (SqlConnection)(Dts.Connections["source"].AcquireConnection(Dts.Transaction) as SqlConnection);
SqlCommand sourcesqlCommand = new SqlCommand(SourceSQL, sqlconnSource);
sourcesqlCommand.CommandTimeout = 1500;

[Code] ....

This takes 128 seconds to put 13 million thin rows into my empty destination table and then throws an exception with this message:

Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.

Ive just started getting this on a stable application thats used a datareader on millions of records.

Not sure where to got from here and I can't find anyone else whos getting the failure during the processing.

I could disable shared memory protocol but that seems extreme. I'm on Sql Enterprise 9.00.2047. Maybe the process is hammering the server very hard? Personally I've rarely ever seen SQL be the cause of an error, only user config, bad disks or power issues.

I'm running the app again with SQL Profiler capturing "standard" events.

Just need it to blow up again.

I can run the app on another machine of course and I wouldn't get Shared Memory Provider being used. Maybe I ought to do that as well. At least if the error is not really in the Shared Memory I'd have another avenue to explore.

SQL Express, Shared Memory, Domain Computer

Jul 16, 2007

I am new here and new to SQL Express. I've searched for my issue, but can 't quite find anything close to the problem or how to solve it, if it's even solvable. I am using SQL Express on a pc to connect to the back end of a database. The front end application (an access runtime) also runs on the same pc. This pc is on a domain. I think I've tried every combination of protocols, and although connectivity via ODBC is successful, the application can't connect - gives the "server doesn't exist or access denied". When I log on to this computer with the "machine" logon (not the domain), I have SQL Express configured to use shared memory, the application runs just fine. I need to use this database for testing in a non productivity environment, but I really hate to log off the domain to run it. Ideas?

Thanks,

32-bit Client Connection Via Shared Memory To 64-bit SQL Server

Mar 18, 2008

Hi,

Our 32-bit applications connect to SQL Server 32-bit through OLEDB with Shared memory as preferred protocol. Our client applications and SQL Server generally reside on same machine.
We are evaluating possible impact when SQL Server 2008 64-bit is accessed with our 32-bit client applications running on 64bit WindowsServer 2008. Can shared memory protocol will be still used by underlying SQL server OLEDB dll considering the client application is 32-bit where as SQL Server is 64-bit ? Or it will switch to Named pipes or TCP/IP automatically ?

Thanks
