I have been tasked to do the following using SSIS.
We received two csv files each week and we would like to load these files to two different sql server tables using SSIS.
These files should be archived into a folder after each load.
How can I achieve this?
I need to import multiple flat files with different formats into different tables of the sql server database and not able to figure out the best way out in ssis to do so...
What are the possible methods in ssis to do so and if possible the process which can be dynamic as file names or columns might change in future.

Import.csv file looks like,
TABLE_NAME DESC CODE

tab2 table2 D
tab2 table2 E
tab2 table2 G...
First column values are table names which are already exists in target database. Next two columns[Desc],[Code] data gets populate from CSV file to table.
In this scenario, how to load tab1 data into the same table in destination and so on.
Which way will be more standard to accomplish this task? If its a script task using C#, looking for clear script to identify a value changes in the first column.

I have a flat with few columns
FirstName, lastName, Address
f1,l1,a1
f2,l2,a2
I build my SSIS package based on the above file.But now i receive files with different columns order let say
lastName,FirstNamr,Address
l1,f1,a1
L2,f2,a2
or
Address,FirstName,LastName
a1,f1,l1
a2,f2,l2
every time i receive multiple files in different order and i have to remap all my mappings. These are just a few columns and i have like 20 columns and the order can potentially change any time. so every time i have build new packages remap them etc.
through normal c# code it pretty easy. I tried to add script here but the script also needs a source and mapping so there is also a mapping issue. Is there a better way to do this.
I have a Problem with my destinations. I have a split condition with two ways the flow can use.
In this case: all and Date.
All and Date can be set by using a variable. Its working good.
When a user fills the variable with a date value (cast to string) the conditional split executes the correct flow with all the needed rows... The same time the all flow will be executed with 0 rows. In the end the destionation file for the all values will be overwritten with nothing. The same on the other hand when a user fills the variable with the all value, the date file is empty. What can i do to make sure that the files are not empty?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to write a conditional split where I want to bring in only records where the date is less than today, but my problem is that I can't simply do this Column < GetDate() because if something comes in today, it takes the time into account and it will bring that record for today. You can do this in SQL, but I'm not sure how to do that in SSIS

I want to load flat files into a single table. But the flat files can have variable number of columns upto a maximum of 10 columns. The table in my database has 10 columns in it. So in case if I load a flat file having 6 columns then rest of the columns in the table will have nulls. I don't want to use script task for this as I am not good in writing C#code.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a table that I am using in a package to create an extract from. In that table is an address field called "Street" that is 255 characters in length. My table also has 3 additional fields called address_1, address_2 and address_3 that are each 50 characters in length because that is the requirement for my extract. I need to split the address field up in such a way that if it is longer than 50 characters, it backs up to the first space in the address prior to character #50, puts that info in street1, then from that cut off point used in street1, puts the next 50 up to the prior blank space in street2, then the remainder in street3. Where the extract will be used only has three 50 character fields so if the data runs more than 150 characters, the street3 data will just have to be truncated. No way around that, but I don't anticipate any address getting close to that long. Although doing such a split would be much easier using SQL, the solution requirement is that it be done in the package, not using SQL to do so.
I'm assuming I need to use a "derived column transformation" in my data flow. But, I can't figure out how to do what I need to do with a derived column transformation.
Example of info in an address:
123 Chicamauga Avenue South, Across the Street from International Center Square, Apartment Number 17650 Tokiwa-machi Machida
position 1-50:

I am importing the values for field Atype from a .csv file as DT_STR, 13 and I need to fit them into a bit type CType field.
When I write the conditional split ((ISNULL(Atype)?"a":Atype)!=(ISNULL(CType)?"9":CType)) it says that the DT_WSTR and DT_I4 types are incompatible and that I need to explicitly cast with a cast operator. I haven't been able to make it work, how to explicitly cast?
We are building a dataload application where parameters are store in a table. And there are multiple packages for each load.There is a column IsChecked column if it is 1 then only the child package should execute.Created a master package. In which i have taken execute SQL task in that storing a results in variable and based on the result the child package should execute. But In executesql task i selected result set as full result set. I am getting the below error.

Variables may not change type during execution. Variable types are strict, except for variables of type Object.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.
I have a delimited text file with 650+ columns. The sum of the column lengths of a single row, if fully populated, exceeds 30K bytes. The "killer" fields lengthwise are the "Description" fields. If they were removed from the input file, the remainig columns would occupy about 5000 bytes, which is within SQL max row length.
Can SSIS be used to created these two tables? (one without description fields, the other with those field but arranged vertically in the table rows).
The fundamental issue is I can not import a single file row into a sql table because that row length could exceed the max byte count for a row.

I am facing one process related issue.
I have one task in which i have to collect lots of .txt file having ## delimiter my requirement is to convert the delimiter from ## to comma and save the new file with .dat extension in different folder.
I have done all required process and run the application which should flow like collect source .txt file do Script component processing and create new .dat file with processed data in Data Flow task, but in my Task the Source and Destination start on same time and process start after words which cause empty file or some time a.txt file data stored in b.dat file where as a.dat file is completely empty.
The process should flow in sequence but behavior is totally against the process, i am using Foreach Loop Container for pick up each file.
Ive created with the help of some great people an SSIS 2005 package which does the follow so far:
1) Takes an incoming txt file. Example txt file: http://www.webfound.net/split.txt
The txt file going from top to bottom is sort of grouped like this
Header Row (designated by HD)
Corresponding Detail Rows for the Header Row
..
Next Header Row
Corresponding Detail Rows
and so on

2) Header Rows are split into one table, Maintenance Detail Rows into another, and Payment Detail Rows into a third table. A uniqueID has been created for each header and its related detail rows to form a PK/FK relationship as there was non prior to the import, only the relation was in order of header / related rows below it when we first started. The reason I split this out is so I can massage it later with stored proc filters, whatever
Now Im trying to somehow bring back the data in those table together like it was initially using a query so that I can cut out each of the Header / Detail Row sections into their own txt file. So, if you look at the original txt file, each new header and its related detail rows (example of a cut piece would be http://www.webfound.net/rows.jpg) need to be cut out and put into their own separate txt file.
This is where Im stuck. How to create a query to combine it all back into an OLE DB Souce component, then somehow read that souce and split out the sections into their own individual txt files.
The filenames of the txt files will vary and be based on one of the column values already in the header table.

I set up a connection file in order to move data from sql to csv files. I should be at the last step, the data flow. but:I don't see any flat file in my destination assistant.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am working to archive some old data from a data warehouse using SQL server and SSIS. The data will be read and denormalized, then shipped out to a delimited text file.
The rowcount of the incoming data is significant, call it 10M+ rows per unit of work (one text file).
There are development advantages of using a stored proc for the data source - mainly ease of changing the denormalization logic as required. Wondering if there are performance advantages of an embeded query for the data source instead?
It was mentioned by one developer that when using a stored procedure, the output stream from the proc and subsequent SSIS steps cannot start until the full procedure processing is complete; i.e. the proc churns out its' result set in one big chunk.
He hinted that an embedded query does not have this same effect, but I am not sure that is accurate.
I have a flat file which have some record data ex.

in above example first record contain invalid data so complete flat file will not import due to one invalid row or record in flat file. so is there any way to check invalid row from flat file and ignore it(write log about invalid record) and process importing flat file.
I've developed a package that is working well at development machine from VS 2013 for a sample flat file. Also, over development machine, I've deployed it to SSISDB catalogue and even from there also it is running well for the same file.When the same package is deployed to production server's SSISDB catalogue database, it throws following error while processing the same sample flat file, “Unable to retrieve column information from the flat file connection manager”

Every day an application creates new tables and dumps static info into them.
I would like to create a package to dynamically export those database tables to raw files for long term archive, one file per table. Here is what I have so far and the issue I am having.
1) Get a list of un-archived tables.
2) Foreach table do the following.
a. Export the table into raw file.
b. Zip the raw file.
c. Update archive tracking table.
As long as the metadata for each table is the same this package seems to work fine. However, I have many tables with different metadata. How can I dynamically get the package update the metadata column collection when it hits a new table? When it hits a table with different metadata I am getting warnings like this:
The column "some_column" needs to be added to the external metadata column collection.
The "external metadata column "someother_column" (103)" needs to be removed from the external metadata column collection.
Then I get this error:
Error: 0xC004706B at dump the table into a raw file, DTS.Pipeline: "component "OLE DB Source" (1)" failed validation and returned validation status "VS_NEEDSNEWMETADATA"
We are using SSIS 2014 and need to download files from sftp. Is there a SFTP control flow task for SSIS 2014? If not then what other options do I have?
