Integration Services :: Loading Multiple Flat Files Into Different Tables Using SSIS?
Oct 25, 2015
I have been tasked to do the following using SSIS.
We received two csv files each week and we would like to load these files to two different sql server tables using SSIS.
These files should be archived into a folder after each load.
How can I achieve this?

I need to import multiple flat files with different formats into different tables of the sql server database and not able to figure out the best way out in ssis to do so...
What are the possible methods in ssis to do so and if possible the process which can be dynamic as file names or columns might change in future.

I have multiple xml data file in a directory say C:XMLData abc1.xml, abc2.xml, abc3.xml etc.
Need to loop through each file in ssis with Foreach loop container, and get the file name say abc1, and load the data of abc1.xml to abc1 table in sql server DB.
Next iteration will pick up the abc2.xml and find the abc2 table in sql server DB then insert the data in abc2 table.
While each iteration, xml source should also point each xsd file correspondingly.
Tables are already created in DB
I solved my problem up to getting the file name from ech iteration and assigned file name to variable, in oledb destination data access mode I select Table or view name variable, then corresponding table will get selected for data insertation.
Just wanted to know how can I read each xsd file for each xml data files while iteration.

I have a requirement where in i have around 15 different flat files , filenames are fixed but folder path can be changed(i think i should use a variable for folder path). These 15 files data should go to their respective tables in the database.
Whether I need to create separate data flow task for each file or separate package? In addition to these, example : while importing product data into product table, if product ID already exists, we need to ignore it and upload only the new records.

I have a couple of hundred flat files to import into database tables using SSIS.
The files can be divided into groups by the format they use. I understand that I could import each group of files that have a common format at the same time using a Foreach Loop Container.
However, the example for the Foreach Loop Container has multiple files all being imported into the same database table. In my case, each file needs to be imported into a different database table.
Is it possible to import each set of files with the same format into different tables in a simple loop? I can't see a way to make a Data Flow Destination item accept its table name dynamically, which seems to prevent me doing this.
I suppose I could make a different Data Flow Destination item for each file, in the Data Flow. Would that be a reasonable solution, or is there a simpler solution, or should I just resign myself to making a separate Data Flow for every single file?

So we are running SQL 2000 and we use a DTS Package to load about 100 txt files to different tables in a SQL DB.
So in DTS packages you define the connection (database) and the different source files will connect to the connection.
You define the destination on the flow arrow. My question is how do i accomplish this in SQL 2008 using SSIS. (upgrading SQL).

I have an SSIS package in VS 2010 that uses flat files to load database tables. I would like to check for the flat files existing before continuing to run the package. The flat files each have their own connection manager. I was wondering if I could use the connection managers to determine the file names instead of creating a Script Task and hard-coding each of the file names to check.

I've been working on an SSIS package trying to load some data and the archive sequence is faulty. I've been trying to load a few tables created in a previous sequence into a local archive file and I've been getting the error "Could not find a part of the path."
The results aren't telling me what it's finding last and so I don't know where to start.
And the source DOES have data in it. It's something between the source and the destination.

Every day an application creates new tables and dumps static info into them.
I would like to create a package to dynamically export those database tables to raw files for long term archive, one file per table. Here is what I have so far and the issue I am having.
1) Get a list of un-archived tables.
2) Foreach table do the following.
a. Export the table into raw file.
b. Zip the raw file.
c. Update archive tracking table.
As long as the metadata for each table is the same this package seems to work fine. However, I have many tables with different metadata. How can I dynamically get the package update the metadata column collection when it hits a new table? When it hits a table with different metadata I am getting warnings like this:
The column "some_column" needs to be added to the external metadata column collection.
The "external metadata column "someother_column" (103)" needs to be removed from the external metadata column collection.
Then I get this error:
Error: 0xC004706B at dump the table into a raw file, DTS.Pipeline: "component "OLE DB Source" (1)" failed validation and returned validation status "VS_NEEDSNEWMETADATA"

I have 2 different excel files file1 and file2. file1 should be loaded to table1 and file2 should be loaded to table2. Both of the files will have 1 sheet inside. Do I need to create separate excel source for file1 and file2? I mean file1 in one excel source and that will be connecting to 1 execute sql task. file2 in other excel source and that will be connecting to another execute sql task. Is this the way I should proceed or is there any looping should be done? I need to schedule this activity to run every week. So, I'll get new files every week with the same file names and sheet names. Do I need to consider anything for this requirement also?
I'm planning to do truncate and reload not an incremental load.

I have a scenario, need to create SQL server Tables dynamically.
I Have multiple xml data file on a particular location, and want to load those XML data into sql server tables, but he metadata of each xml data files are not same.
Hence the approach is that,
1. Pick first file from that location
2. Create a table according to that xml data file metada
3. load data on newly created table.
4. Pickup the next xml data files.
5. loop through, till the XML data files are exists on that location.

I need to export multiple tables from a database to multiple csv files (one for each table).
Rather than use SSIS and have multiple OLEDB sources and destinations (one for each table), is there a way to have a generic package that will export all the tables in the database ?
One way I can see is to use BCP in a loop - with the loop powered by a select statement that links to something like sys.tables etc, (or another table that i prepped with just the tables I want if I dont want them all).
i.e I would use a stored procedure that uses BCP (called via XPcmdShell) - so not via SSIS - although I could wrap up the whole thing in SSIS - but there is no realy need.

How to download files from a webpage before loading into SQL Server tables? I have the following URL and under the Downloads & Resources section, I have different file formats.
By doing hover on the download tab for each file type, I see that there is a link that is associated with it just like the following:
For CSV - [URL] ....
For XML - [URL] ....
The above is just an example for your reference/understanding. In the sample data from the internal website I have, I need to do a similar operation. The only difference would be that I would be having multiple XLS files with a description for each.
Example:
Sales Q1 - <xls download tab>
Sales Q2 - <xls download tab>
Sales Q3 - <xls download tab>
Sales Q4 - <xls download tab>
<li>
Sales for Calendar Year 2015--All Countries
<a href="/Data/Downloads/Documents/Sales/Sales_Quarter1.xlsx">
[XLS]</a> , <a href="/Data/Downloads/Documents/Sales/Sales_Quarter1.pdf">[PDF]</a>
</li>
I need to download the file based on the month/quarter every time.

I have a delimited text file with 650+ columns. The sum of the column lengths of a single row, if fully populated, exceeds 30K bytes. The "killer" fields lengthwise are the "Description" fields. If they were removed from the input file, the remainig columns would occupy about 5000 bytes, which is within SQL max row length.
Can SSIS be used to created these two tables? (one without description fields, the other with those field but arranged vertically in the table rows).
The fundamental issue is I can not import a single file row into a sql table because that row length could exceed the max byte count for a row.

I used the data export wizard to export a single table to a single flat file (multiple wasn't allowed). I saved the package as a *.dtsx file which I'm attempting to edit to add the additional tables.
Creating additional sources is fairly easy copy of the first source and change to the table name.
I've tried copying the destination connection and changing to a new text file, but can't get past having to add each column manually to the new destination.
How can I duplicate the mapping that must be taking place in the wizard in the *.dtsx editing environment?
This seems like a simple / common task, but I've been unable to find a solution.
Thanks, Richard

Currently we are trying to load the xml files into sqlserver tables by using ssis 2012,We are getting xml files as a column in source table ,so we have to push these xml files into destination tables.
I'm following the below way to perform this activity
[URL]
But We have standard XSD structure for all the xml files ,and if xml file matches the XSD structure then only we have to load ,else it should skip to next xml file.

Hi.
I've tried to create a SSIS package to simply export a bunch of tables as flat files, and am having troubles because when the for each loop hits the second table the column mappings in the flat file destination are not synchronised with its schema.
I created a for each loop with an enumerator that returns the table names and sets a user variable.
I created a data flow task which dynamically connects to the table name variable.
In the Flat File Destination there is a column mapping property, but I don't know how to reset these mappings on each iteration.
Any ideas?

I am looking to load data incrementally from staging to spectrum database.
Master = Staging table
Detail = Spectrum table
On below logic
.If record from Detail (Spectrum table) is null
then do insert the record into Spectrum table
set status_flag to 'A' for active
else do update the record (replace all old values with new values)
set status_flag to 'A' for active
end-if
· If record from Master (Staging table) is null
then do soft delete
set status_flag to 'D' for delete
end-if

Hi,
I have searched but not found quite the best way to look at this so far..
I have an application that outputs data to several text files (up to 30). These have commonality by an object name, but then contain completely different column data.
In DTS I had each of the source text file connections going to one OLE DB connection and then individual transform data tasks pointing to the one OLE DB connection.
Looking at SSIS, it would appear that I would need to have one source and one destination for each of these and therefore 30 parallel data flows?
Just wondering if there is a neater way of doing this??
It is a regular data import that happens a few times a day - the text files are named the same as the SQL tables - ie app_userdata.txt goes to app_userdata table.
Hope that explains ok and thanks in advance.
Mike

I want to load flat files into a single table. But the flat files can have variable number of columns upto a maximum of 10 columns. The table in my database has 10 columns in it. So in case if I load a flat file having 6 columns then rest of the columns in the table will have nulls. I don't want to use script task for this as I am not good in writing C#code.

I am using Sql Server 2012. I have a table which has a field as Datetime (it is a table in Dynamics CRM 2011 so I have no control of the data type). Say this field is called BisStartDate. If I run this query in management studio.
select
BisStartDate, BisStartDateutc
from myTable
where _bisnumber=10375
I will get:
BisStartDate BisStartDateutc
2014-07-29 00:00:00.000 2014-07-29 05:00:00.000
*in CRM, datetime is saved in 2 fields, one is the current time, the other one is the utc time.
You can see the offset between the datetime and utc is 5 hours.
However when the same statement was running inside a SSIS package on the server, the result returned is:
BisStartDate BisStartDateutc
2014-07-28 23:00:00.0000000 2014-07-29 05:00:00.000
And if I do
datediff(MINUTE,CRMAF_BisSection.ttc_section_startdatetimeutc,CRMAF_BisSection.ttc_section_startdatetime)
I will get -5 if I run it in ManagementStudio and -6 is running on server package(running inside VisualStudio will be -5, same as running a query in ManagementStudio).
I think when the record was saved, “date” is 5 hours offset to UTC time but now the system use the current utc offset which is 6 hours. I just want to use the BisStartDate as it is. How do I let the SSIS turn off the conversion.
The same datatime is saved in another system then we compare them to check the data entry. Now because of this one hour difference, sometime the Day will be different.

Hi,
I'm just learning SSIS. As I was following the tutorial on foreach loop container (lesson 2) to export multiple flat files in creating a simple ETL package in SSIS, I get the following error:

This occurs when the number of errors reaches the number specified in MaximumErrorCount. Change the MaximumErrorCount or fix the errors.
SSIS package "Take17.dtsx" finished: Failure.
I spent some time in understanding where could be the error. I traced it to the following place. If you take a look at the Lesson#2 in creating a simple ETL package in SSIS, using foreach loop container to import files into SQL server, as soon as I finish going through steps in configuring the file connection manager to use the variable for connectionstring, it immediately disappears. I repeated the tutorial three times exactly as I pointed out and when I reach to this step of configuring file connection manager for connectionstring, it takes the path and when I start debugging it, I get this error. When I go and check if everything is Ok, the connectionstring value is empty.
Why the value in connectionstring disappears?
Thank you.

I am facing one process related issue.
I have one task in which i have to collect lots of .txt file having ## delimiter my requirement is to convert the delimiter from ## to comma and save the new file with .dat extension in different folder.
I have done all required process and run the application which should flow like collect source .txt file do Script component processing and create new .dat file with processed data in Data Flow task, but in my Task the Source and Destination start on same time and process start after words which cause empty file or some time a.txt file data stored in b.dat file where as a.dat file is completely empty.
The process should flow in sequence but behavior is totally against the process, i am using Foreach Loop Container for pick up each file.
