Integration Services :: SSIS Bulk Insert Fails On Unicode File With GUID Column
Jun 3, 2015
I am using SQL Server Data Tools for Visual Studio 2012. I have a very simple SSIS package with a Data Flow task that exports from an OLE DB Source to a tab-delimited unicode Flat File Destination and a Bulk Insert task that loads from the file. Both the Flat File Destination and Bulk Import are using the same code page. The Bulk Insert task is using the wide char format to read from the file. The process works fine with nvarchar and int columns, but when I add a unique identifier column it fails with "type mismatch or invalid character for the specified code page".

Hi,
for testing purposes I'm inserting a flat file into a sql-server table using BULK INSERT unsig the following code:
BULK INSERT rsk_staging
FROM 'c: empulk
sk.txt'
WITH (
FIELDTERMINATOR = '',
ROWTERMINATOR = '
',
CODEPAGE = 'RAW',
DATAFILETYPE = 'char',
BATCHSIZE = 100000,
ROWS_PER_BATCH = 1925604,
TABLOCK
)
I have two versions of "rsk.txt" one with 1.9mill rows and one with the first 2000 rows only. The files have one column only with 115 characters that I'll split in to several columns later using SUBSTRING. The one with 2000 rows fires in to the database with no problems whatsoever using this exact code, the other one throws the following error:
Server: Msg 4866, Level 17, State 66, Line 1
Bulk Insert fails. Column is too long in the data file for row 1, column 1. Make sure the field terminator and row terminator are specified correctly.
How can I resolve this problem?
EDIT: I tried several different row- and fieldterminators but this exact one works for the small data-file so I assume it should also work for the large one...the large one is however copyed directly using binary ftp from a unix-filesystem and the small one is manually copied into a new txt-file using UltraEdit.

In my package , I am used CDC Source transformation and received the Net changes then insert into Destination. But whatever Data coming from CDC source data type Varchar value needs to Converting Non Unicode string to Unicode string SSIS. So used Data conversion transformation to achieved this.  I need to achieve this without data conversion.

I have am having some issues bulk inserting from a flat file (CSV) to the database. I have also tried this by using the import and export wizard and get the following error:
I dont understand what the issue. The table that i have created looks like this:
CREATE TABLE IderaPatchAnalyzer
(
IP_Adresse varchar(64) NOT NULL,
Release_ varchar(50) NOT NULL,
Level_ varchar(50)NOT NULL,
Edition_ varchar(50) NOT NULL,
[Code] .....
I have in the changed the outputcolumnwidth in Ip_Adresse to 64. The length of the cells are not near 50 however i want it to be sure that its not the case. When I try to do the same in my SSIS project, i also get an error. I do get a warning: Truncation may occur due to inserting data from data flow column """"KB Available""" with a length o..... in that column there are max 5 varchar:  "yes" and "no". The  """"KB Available""" is the column name in the flat file (CSV), I have made checkmark in Column names in the first data row.Â
I have used the following guide for my SSIS project:

I have an SSIS package doing a bulk insert from a file. Then later on I'm trying to delete that file (in a file delete task), but I'm getting an error:[File System Task] Error: An error occurred with the following error message: "The process cannot access the file 'xyz' because it is being used by another process.".I'm wondering if there isn't some way to 'tweak' the bulk insert syntax so that it doesn't lock the file?

I am using OLE DB source to extract data from Oracle. I have query (sample) like below, but SSIS is converting ID as Unicode String [DT_WSTR]. Why is that? and how to avoid this?
SELECT

I'm new to SSIS, using Terdata Attunity connector for integrating data flow between Terdata (source) to SQL Server (Target).
SSIS package is getting failed because of length mismatch between source and Target for Unicode character datatype columns. Reason is Teradata TPT always occupies 3 times more length of actual defined in DB.Â
Even I tried by increasing length of attribute in Source but it didn't work.
I know by converting datatype from unicode -> Latin would work, but i don't want to do conversion since loosing some characters.

Error isÂ

When I am trying to insert to data from SQL ssis package to SharePoint list people or group column I am getting below error.[SSIS.Pipeline] Error: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_PROCESSINPUTFAILED. The ProcessInput method on component "SharePoint List Destination" (25) failed with error code 0x80131500 while processing input "Component Input" (34). The identified component returned an error from the ProcessInput method. The error is specific to the component, but the error is fatal and will cause the Data Flow task to stop running.

I have a flat with few columns
FirstName, lastName, Address
f1,l1,a1
f2,l2,a2
I build my SSIS package based on the above file.But now i receive files with different columns order let say
lastName,FirstNamr,Address
l1,f1,a1
L2,f2,a2
or
Address,FirstName,LastName
a1,f1,l1
a2,f2,l2
every time i receive multiple files in different order and i have to remap all my mappings. These are just a few columns and i have like 20 columns and the order can potentially change any time. so every time i have build new packages remap them etc.
through normal c# code it pretty easy. I tried to add script here but the script also needs a source and mapping so there is also a mapping issue. Is there a better way to do this.

Import.csv file looks like,
TABLE_NAME DESC CODE
tab1 table1 A
tab1 table1 B
tab1 table1 C
tab2 table2 D
tab2 table2 E
tab2 table2 G...
First column values are table names which are already exists in target database. Next two columns[Desc],[Code]Â data gets populate from CSV file to table.
In this scenario, how to load tab1 data into the same table in destination and so on.
Which way will be more standard to accomplish this task? If its a script task using C#, looking for clear script to identify a value changes in the first column.

Hello All,
I'm having a problem doing a bulk insert on a tab delimited text file into mssql 2005 using either bulk insert or bcp.
When using the following bulk insert command I get the "The column is too long in the data file for row 1, column 2" error.
I have tried
Code Snippet
BULK
INSERT
test.dbo.customerdefinition
FROM
'data_file.txt'
WITH
(
FORMATFILE = 'format_file.txt',
FIELDTERMINATOR = ' ',
ROWTERMINATOR = 'n',
KEEPIDENTITY
)
The data file only has data for the first 10 columns of a table with over 100 columns.
First 10 table columns have the format of
CREATE TABLE [dbo].[CustomerDefinition](
[Rowid] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT FOR REPLICATION NOT NULL,

For packages that I have created to read Oracle 10g tables, that work fine with debugging in 32-bit mode, I get an error message on all string fields when I try to run in 64-bit mode. An example error message is:[OLE DB Source [1]] Error: Column "ACCT_UNIT" cannot convert between unicode and non-unicode string data types.Another interesting warning included is:[OLE DB Source [1]] Warning: The external columns for component "OLE DB Source" (1) are out of synchronization with the data source columns. The external column "ACCT_UNIT" needs to be updated.I cannot even try to convert this data with a Data Conversion item because the (red) error is on the OLE DB Source item and stops there. It doesn't matter what the destination is or even if there is a destination in the package yet.I'm using Oracle Provider for OLE DB, Oracle Client version 10.203 for 32-bit and Oracle Client 10.204 for 64-bit.Oracle is 10g on a UNIX 64-bit server and the data is not unicode.I'm using SQL Server Enterprise 2008 (10.0.1600) on Windows Server 2008 Standard SP1 on a 64-bit server.The packages work fine in 32-bit mode and the data is not unicode data. When I change Run64BitRuntime to True in the Debugging Property Page, I get the error on the OLE DB Source item. I also get the error when I schedule a package to run using the SQL Server Agent.

While within SQL Server 2008R2/Visual Studio 2008, I created SSIS project that involves, among the rest, Script Components.... Nowadays, we moved towards SQL Server 2014 and Visual Studio 2013...Our further development of SSIS project is stacked at Script Component errors....like depicted in attachment. As synopsis of steps that we used to undertook, was drag/drop Script Component, Transformation, Add Web Service as [URL] ...., Resolve in order to set up correct Using statement....But, if we try to BUILD, it pop ups errors beneath... How to escape i.e., how to build it now in SQL Server 2014 and Visual Studio 2013?

I have a very anoying problem with SSIS. I've done new packages into same project, almost identical compared to old ones. They work well in visual studio, but I can't execute them using procedure. Old packages works just fine, but none of the new. Error message is in the end of my story.Visual Studio version is 9.0.30729.1 and SQL Server version is 10.0.4000.0. Is it possible, that these not not updated versions could cause this problem?Package ProtectionLevel is DonSaveSensitive.

Hi,
I have a text file with a single column that i need to bulk insert into a table with 2 colums - an ID (with identity turned on) and col2
my text file looks like:
row1
row2
row3
...
row10
so my bulk insert i have like this:
BULK INSERT test FROM 'd: estBig.txt'
WITH (
DATAFILETYPE = 'char',
FIELDTERMINATOR = ',',
ROWTERMINATOR = '
'
)
but i get the error:
Server: Msg 4866, Level 17, State 66, Line 1
Bulk Insert fails. Column is too long in the data file for row 1, column 1. Make sure the field terminator and row terminator are specified correctly.
However, as you can see from the text file, there is only one column, so i dont have any field terminators.
Any ideas how to make this work?
Thanks.

Here is the situation, please let me know if you have any tips:..TXT files in a share at \fooSPROCS run daily parses of many things, including data on that share. Theother day, we encountered rows in the TXT files which looked like:column1Row1data,column2Row1datacolumn1Row2data,column2Row2data...etc..However, column2 was about 6000 bytes of unicode. We are bulk insertinginto a table specifying nvarchar(4000). When it encounters high unicoderows, it throws a truncation error (16).We really need information contained in the first 200 bytes of the string incolumn2. However, the errors are causing the calling SPROC to abort.Please let me know if you have any suggestions on workarounds for thissituation. Ideally, we would only Bulk Insert a sub-section of column2 ifpossible.Thanks!/Ty

I have been racking my brain over this hopefully someone has run into a similar issue. I am attempting to Bulk insert several Unicode (UCS-16BE) data files that are missing their Unicode Signature. If I add a Big-Endian signature (FE FF) I can get the files to load into a table without using a format file, but if I attempt to use a format file I get the following error ( I need to use a format file due to more columns in the actual table than in the file):
Msg 4832, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Bulk load: An unexpected end of file was encountered in the data file.
Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
The OLE DB provider "BULK" for linked server "(null)" reported an error. The provider did not give any information about the error.
Msg 7330, Level 16, State 2, Line 1
Cannot fetch a row from OLE DB provider "BULK" for linked server "(null)".
If I attempt to load without the Unicode signature, with a format file the correct number of characters load into the fields, but the data is all €˜€™s. I have tried various codepages (including 1201 & 1200) and codepage settings and none have any effect on the data that is loaded or not loaded.
Code Using Format File:
BULK INSERT [ARE_Test_Stage].[dbo].LFBK
FROM 'U:ProjectsTempUnicodeTest2 est-w.TXT'
WITH (
DATAFILETYPE = 'widechar',
CODEPAGE = '1201',
MAXERRORS = 2147000000,
FORMATFILE = 'U:ProjectsTempUnicodeTest2FormatFiles est-w_METADATA.fmt',
KEEPNULLS
)
Format File:
9.0
14
1 SQLNCHAR 0 6 "
