Integration Services :: SSIS Insert Non Null Value Into Null Rows
Jul 15, 2015
I have a flat file with the following columns
SampleID Rep_Number Product Protein Fat Solids
In the flat file SampleID and Product are populated in the first row only, rest of the rows only have values for Rep_Number, Protein, Fat, Solids.
SampleID and Product are blank for the rest of the rows. So my task is to fill those blank rows with the first row that has the sampleID and Product and load into the table.
I'm trying to import some XLS files that I receive from some suppliers. The problem is that every time they send some columns with text values but formatted as number. When I read those columns with SSIS Excel Source, they come all with null values.
I don't want to change the columns data types every time, so I would like to know if there's a way to bypass the column types that are already there.
I tried to use both the Jet driver and the Office 12 driver. I've already used the IMEX=1 on ExtendedProperties too with no success. Is there a way to force reading the columns as text, even if they have data types assigned to them?
I'm using SSIS 2005 Enterprise edition, I'm creating a package that reads an excel (xls) file using the "excel source" component, and it dumps the data into an OLEDB destination (a sql server). When I drag the excel source component and create the excel connection to my file the component automatically reads the columns and their datatypes.
The problem is that I have a column which has numeric data and the package uploads as NULL every number that starts with a zero. (note: in excel this column is formatted as "text", despite it has only numbers, because it's the only way excel maintains the left sided zeros).
So I checked the data types by right clicking the excel source component -> show advanced editor and my surprise is that this column's data type is detected as double-precision float, and it doesn't let me change it. URL... but it only works when the first row of data has a number beginning with zero on this column. How to get the data imported correctly?
I have a ssis package which identifies duplicate records in access database. I have staged access database into sql sever and created ssis package. Now, I have final list of records which needs to be delete from access database and new records which are to be inserted into access database.
What do I need to do if I want to delete those duplicate records directly from access database using SSIS. I cannot truncate whole access database and reload. I just have to delete duplicate rows from access db and add new records.
I have SQL Server 2012 SSIS. I have Excel source and OLE DB Destination.I have problem with importing CustomerSales column.CustomerSales values like 1000.00,2000.10,3000.30,NotAvailable.So I have decimal values and nvarchar mixed in on Excel column. This is requirement for solution.However SSIS reads only numeric values correctly and nvarchar values are set as Null. Why?
I have an SSIS package that imports data from an Excel file, replaces any value in Excel that reads "NULL" to "", then writes the data to a couple of databases.
What I have discovered today, is I have two columns of dates, an admit date and discharge date column, and what I need to do is anywhere I have a null value in the discharge date column, I have to replace it with the value in the admit date column.
I have searched around online and tried a few things using the Replace funtion in Derived columns but no dice so far.
In my report i have CNAME parameter , which allows null value. I checked Allow null value check box in report parameter properties.
when i preview the report , it displays checked NULL check box beside CNAME parameter . I want to give some meaningful name(i.e.ALLCustomers) to this checkbox instead of NULL.
In my source table, I have columns FirstName and LastName, both of datatype nvarchar. In my dataflow, I created two new derived columns mapped to these two columns. When pushing data to the source, I noticed that the FirstName column had a value of NULL while LastName was just an empty string (for rows that did not have any value).
My question is, why my source table column FirstName is showing a NULL value when the derived column datatype is string and the source is string? It should just be showing an empty string right?
I am getting this error: "Cannot insert the value NULL into column 'OrderID', table 'outman.outman.Contact'; column does not allow nulls. INSERT fails." -- But my value is not null. I did a response.write on it and it show the value. Of course, it would be nice if I could do a breakpoint but that doesn't seem to be working. I'll attach a couple of images below of my code, the error, and the breakpoint error.

Hey. I need to substitute a value from a table if the input var is null. This is fine if the value coming from table is not null. But, it the table value is also null, it doesn't work. The problem I'm getting is in the isnull line which is in Dark green color because @inFileVersion is set to null explicitly and when the isnull function evaluates, value returned from DR.FileVersion is also null which is correct. I want the null=null to return true which is why i set ansi_nulls off. But it doesn't return anything. And the select statement should return something but in my case it returns null. If I comment the isnull statements in the where clause, everything works fine. Please tell me what am I doing wrong. Is it possible to do this without setting the ansi_nulls to off??? Thank you
set ansi_nulls off
go

@inFileName VARCHAR (100),
@inFileSize INT,
@Id int,
@inlanguageid INT,
@inFileVersion VARCHAR (100),
@ExeState int
set @inFileName = 'A0006337.EXE'
set @inFileSize = 28796
set @Id= 1
set @inlanguageid =null
set @inFileVersion =NULL
set @ExeState =0
select Dr.StateID from table1 dR
where
DR.[FileName] = @inFileName
AND DR.FileSize =@inFileSize
AND DR.FileVersion = isnull(@inFileVersion,DR.FileVersion)
I am copying a simple table from a Sql Server 2005 database to an *.sdf mobile database.
I am brand new to SSIS and I am probably doing something wrong. But after executing the SSIS package all the rows and all the fields are NULL in the destination database. I put a datagrid viewer between the OLE DB Source and the Sql Server compact edition destination and I can see the real data which is obviously not ALL NULL.
Does anyone have a clue as to why it would be doing this?
I need to convert a a string column to integer. Before converting, I need to check if it has blank values then convert it to NULL. Someone told me that its easier to convert it to NULL before converting to integer.
I have a pivot transform that pivots a batch type. After the pivot, each batch type has its own row with null values for the other batch types that were pivoted. I want to group two fields and max() the remaining batch types so that the multiple rows are displayed on one row. I tried using the aggregate transform, but since the batch type field is a string, the max() function fails in the package. Is there another transform or can I use the aggragate transform another way so that the max() will work on a string?
I am having a little problem with a simple package and I do not know if this is a known issue or that I am missing something.
I have a data flow task, a simple one, with an oledb source pulling data, using a select statement, from a sql server 2005 instance, and an ole db destination pointing to a table in a sql server 2000 instance. Both intances are standard edition. The table in the destination has a column which allow null values and has also a default constraint (getdate()), and this column is not present in the source. When I map the columns in the destination, I leave this column as "ignore", not being mapped to any column from the source. The problem is that when I execute the task, SSIS is trying to insert NULL value into this column, so the package fail with the error "can not insert NULL value into column myColumn". I wonder why is it trying to insert NULL value if the column is not mapped to any column from the source.
Is this a known issue or I am nissing something in the settings?
If the destination table has rowversion or identity columns, there is no problem ar all. I ignore those columns in the mapping and SQL Server feeds them as expected.
After: If (Row.RegenerateXML_IsNull()) Then Command.Parameters.AddWithValue("@RegenerateXML",System.DBNull.Value) Else Command.Parameters.AddWithValue("@RegenerateXML", Row.RegenerateXML) End If
Which is great but it does turn 1 line into 5 lines. I have 20 parameters which takes up 20 lines of code which will now be 20 x 5 = 100 lines of code.
My question is :
Is there a better way to write this code without having to take up so many lines?
I'm working with integration services 2008 and I have a package where I selected a certain set of rows from an Oracle database and then I insert this data set into a SQL database. When the package is inserting in SQL database, it shows that all the rows were inserted, "green", but when I check the amount of data (I count), it's not the same as it was in Oracle.
For example: there are 15390 rows in Oracle and the packages inserts sometimes 9801, 8310, 9952, 9934, 9975, 5437, 9909 rows in SQL server.The package does not abort! It simply does not insert all the rows!
While handling errors in a flat file I am routing the rows into the excel sheet to business for further processing. I need to send a mail attaching the excel sheet which contains the errored-out/In-Complete definitons. The problem is I need to send a mail if and only if there is at least one row in Excel sheet. How Can I count the rows exist in excel sheet? and send the rowcount to a variable and use that value of a variable to send a mail?
I need to do something like this in SSIS:From one SQL table I need to get some id values, I am using a simple sql query:Select ID from Identifier where value is not null.I've got this result:As a final result I need to generate and set a variable in SSIS with the final value:
@var = '198','120','ACP','120','PQU'
Which I need to use later in a odbc expression.How can I do this in SSIS?
I'm doing a group by in an aggregate transformation. I have say 6 columns in the output and I'm grouping on all of them - how can I get duplicate rows in the output? If I do the same select and group by in SQL on the source data I don't get any duplicate rows. In fact out of 6000+ rows I only get 2 duplicates.
I want only last yesterday data that's why i put the condition at oledb source and it working fine.It fetch previous day of data but at the time of lookup , it lookup all data from the beginning and provide the error of insufficient space.
1.how lookup contain only yesterday data.
2.What to do for lookup all data (adding space is the solution or something else to do)
3.I want to transfer 100 of tables data everyday. this article is only for transferring one table data.For transferring the data of another table add dataflow task below to Apply stages update or add another sequence container.
I've a SSIS 2008 parent/child package solution to manage data transfers between two different data sources, so we can copy multiple tables and capture how many rows were transferred and duration for each transfer. This solution was working fine up until last week, when I made some changes to allow the package to perform a source count using standard SQL determined by an expression, or SQL provided from configuration tables, I also changed the package to Truncate or not the destination table, again controlled by configuration settings in a table. The child packages which perform the data flows have not changed!
The day after the controlling package promotion to live, I saw the bizarre behaviour of the Package log stating all rows transferred, but the actual table counts were not what the log stated, see attached file. The package solution works ok on other servers and was ok in DEV, but there were less tables and rows transferred.Re-running the package gave the same errors, but on some of the same tables and some different ones.
As it is the child packages doing the transfers and nothing has changed in them. I cannot see how the log would be able to say all rows are transferred and yet not all of the rows are actually moved?
Process output - where you can see counts and log Table transfer controller (as txt not dtsx)
An example of the data transfer child packages (as txt not dtsx)When I set the ExecuteOutOfProcess = True the package worked fine, unfortunately, this is not a good solution as SSIS 2008 does not tidy up the Dtshost.exe processes it starts and I'd be left with a memory issue after a very short time, we transfer hundreds of tables each day. ( I could write a .net script in the controlling package to kill the child processes, but that would still have hundreds of processes running before I could end them, as we have three parallel streams to allow a bit better performance.
I have am having some issues bulk inserting from a flat file (CSV) to the database. I have also tried this by using the import and export wizard and get the following error:
I dont understand what the issue. The table that i have created looks like this:
CREATE TABLE IderaPatchAnalyzer ( IP_Adresse varchar(64) NOT NULL, Release_ varchar(50) NOT NULL, Level_ varchar(50)NOT NULL, Edition_ varchar(50) NOT NULL,
[Code] .....
I have in the changed the outputcolumnwidth in Ip_Adresse to 64. The length of the cells are not near 50 however i want it to be sure that its not the case. When I try to do the same in my SSIS project, i also get an error. I do get a warning: Truncation may occur due to inserting data from data flow column """"KB Available""" with a length o..... in that column there are max 5 varchar: "yes" and "no". The """"KB Available""" is the column name in the flat file (CSV), I have made checkmark in Column names in the first data row.
I have used the following guide for my SSIS project:
I am trying to insert in table using execute sql task.
I want to pass value of Load_Frequency through parameter
But I am getting below error
[Execute SQL Task] Error: Executing the query "Insert Into [dbo].[ETL_LOAD_MAIN] ( [Load_Fr..." failed with the following error: "The statement has been terminated.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly. Insert Into [dbo].[ETL_LOAD_MAIN] ( [Load_Frequency] ,[Load_Start_DateTime] ,[Load_Overall_Status] ) Values (?,getdate(),'In Progress')
I am using SSIS integration between two database. Both databases are sql server 2008. using many integration but getting problem in two only only two integration giving problem, both are executing perfectly and out put also not showing any error.
but destination table not inserted/updated anything.
first issue integration is using data flow task with oledb source and destination. second one is using execute task with for-eachloop container.
I am using SQL Server Data Tools for Visual Studio 2012. I have a very simple SSIS package with a Data Flow task that exports from an OLE DB Source to a tab-delimited unicode Flat File Destination and a Bulk Insert task that loads from the file. Both the Flat File Destination and Bulk Import are using the same code page. The Bulk Insert task is using the wide char format to read from the file. The process works fine with nvarchar and int columns, but when I add a unique identifier column it fails with "type mismatch or invalid character for the specified code page".
When I am trying to insert to data from SQL ssis package to SharePoint list people or group column I am getting below error.[SSIS.Pipeline] Error: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_PROCESSINPUTFAILED. The ProcessInput method on component "SharePoint List Destination" (25) failed with error code 0x80131500 while processing input "Component Input" (34). The identified component returned an error from the ProcessInput method. The error is specific to the component, but the error is fatal and will cause the Data Flow task to stop running.
I'm banging my head trying to figure out why this simple query isn't returning null rows for sales. I'm using a calendar table (MetaDates) that should return all 12 months whether there are sales or not (null). I've tried several combinations without any success. Any help with the below query is much appreciated.
SELECT Customer.Country, MetaDates.[Month], MetaDates.[Year], isNull(SUM(Order_Line_Invoice.Sales),0) FROM Order_Line_Invoice inner join Customer on customer.custid = Order_Line_Invoice.custid RIGHT OUTER JOIN MetaDates ON MetaDates.[Date] = Order_Line_Invoice.InvoiceDate WHERE (MetaDates.[Year] = 2007) AND (Customer.Country IN ('ar')) GROUP BY MetaDates.[Year], MetaDates.[Month], Customer.Country ORDER BY MetaDates.[Year], MetaDates.[Month]
I have a report that is run on a monthly basis with a default date of null. The stored procedure determines the month-end date that it should use should it be sent a null date.
The report works fine when I tell it to create a history entry; however, when I try to add a subscription it doesn't appear to like the null parameter value. Since I have told the report to have a default value of null it doesn't allow me to enter a value on the subscription page.
Now, I suppose I could remove the parameter altogether from the stored proc, but then the users would never be able to run the report for a previous time period. Can someone explain to me why default values aren't allowed to be used on subscriptions when they seem to work fine for ad hoc and scheduled reports? This is really quite frustrating as most of my reports require a date value and default to null so that the user doesn't have to enter them for the latest data.
An internal error occurred on the report server. See the error log for more details. (rsInternalError) Get Online Help
I run a stored procedure for which I have a return variable. The stored procedure returns the ID of a row in a table if it exists:
m_sqlCmd.ExecuteScalar();
The m_sqlCmd has been fed an SQLParameter with direction set to output. When the stored proc returns, I want to test it. Now when there IS a row it returns the ID ok. When the row doesn't exist, in my watch I have:
m_sqlParam.SqlValue with value {Null}
I can't seem to work out how to test this value out. I've tried several things but none seem to work.
This line compiles ok, but the following runs into the IF statement as if the SqlValue is null??
if (m_sqlParam.SqlValue != null).... {
// I'm here!! I thought the watch says this is null??? }
Sorry if this is obvious, but I can't work this one out!!
