I recently started working on SSIS packages and I have a package which will Validate a table records and prepare a txt file with all details and sends the email to approriate email ids. The problem i'm facing is I'm getting System.Net.Mail.SmtpException with inner exception as A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond xx.xx.xx.xx:25. I'm using SMTPConnection and Windows Authentication as credentials.I also add the ISServerExec.exe to the firewall exclusion list still it throws the same error.
I have a Send Mail task as part of a validation process in a OnPostExecute event handler. All tasks preceding the Send Mail task get triggered and show green check mark next to them, but, for some reason, Send Mail task never gets one.
I checked the Execution Results tab and it doesn't show any indication of Send Mail task executing as a final step.
I checked the SMTP server configuration and did some test using localhost. I'm able to send as configured while using anonymous credentials.
I have a developer here that created an SSIS package that contains a Send Mail Task. When this developer runs the package in the Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS) the send mail task runs without issue. But when he tries to run it using command line and the DTEXEC program it errors out with the following error message:

Here are the details of his machine: Visual Studio 2005 Version: 8.0.50727.762 (SP.050727-7600)
Under the Installed Products section it reads: SQL Server Integration Services version: 9.00.3042.00
Once we promoted the package to a production server it runs fine. I can also run the same package from my machine without issue. So, I'm pretty sure that it's specific to his machine, but I have no idea where to start looking.
Dear all, I have switched off the firewall settings on my system and as suggested im entering the minimal information and data to send the mail. but still the Mail Task is failing.. plz suggest.
Hopefully someone out there will have an idea as this is driving me nuts.
I've setup a task to email on success/failure and keep receiving the following message when executed:
Progress: The SendMail task is initiated. - 0 percent complete [Send Mail Task] Error: An error occurred with the following error message: "Failure sending mail.". Progress: The SendMail task is completed. - 100 percent complete Task Send Mail Task failed
When I configure Outlook Express on the same machine with the same settings it works.
On the SMTP Connection Manager I have left the default name, tested with both an IP address and Server Name, and no authentication or SSL.
On the Send Mail Task, it uses the above connection. The To: , From: , Subject fields are populated. Message SourceType is DirectInput, MessageSource is Test, Priority is Normal and no attachments or expressions etc.
Nothing useful is logged in the Event Viewer even with full logging turned on.
Is there anyway to send excel file from ssis using send mail task without saving the excel file locally. I need to automate the process which involves loading the excel file from the database and send it to some people.
I have (6) sequence containers, each with a data flow task and script task. The script task renames the file and the data flow uses an OLE DB Source connection to export to a flat file using the Flat File Destination connection. For sI have been unable to move from the 1st sequence container to the 2nd (and the next and so on...). I am trying to do this "on success" (on failure I generate an email notification within each container), but am apparently missing a piece to this because after the sequence container executes, which it does successfully, nothing happens.
The send mail task in ssis was failing with following error
[Send Mail Task] Error: An error occurred with the following error message: "Failure sending mail.". Progress: The SendMail task is completed. - 100 percent complete Task Send Mail Task failed
The firewall for SMTP server was opened.
And successful in sending mail using Database Mail task from the sql server
Do any one have idea why this difference is? Do any one ever faced similar issue?
One reason I could found is McAfee virus scan policy is stopping the SSIS Send mail task.
(source: 9/25/2007 9:00:04 AM Blocked by port blocking rule C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90DTSinnDtsDebugHost.exe Anti-virus Standard Protection : Prevent mass mailing worms from sending mail 10.237.5.105:25)
I am creating one SSIS package where my source is oracle. I have transferred the data from Oracle to flat file as per client requirement.I have to create single package for 2 country 1 is US and another is CANADA Columns are below
ZONE_ID, ZONE_NAME Zone Id having data like 10001,10002,10003,20001,2002,2003
Where zone_id start with 1000 is US Zone and Zone_Id start with 2000 is Canada Zone.
For US: 1. Load geography data from DB tables into flat files 2. Load geography data from flat files to Spectrum DB tables
For Canada: 1. Load geography data from DB tables into flat files 2. Load geography data from flat files to Spectrum DB tables
Now I want to look from flat file if Zone_id start with 1000 then it must go to US_DFT and if Zone_id start with 2000 then it must go to CANADA_DFT.
I have trying to execute the Sendmail task in my development envinorment i face this error..I have given the clear details error message below,Please have a look.
[Send Mail Task] Error: An error occurred with the following error message: "Failure sending mail. System.Net.WebException: Unable to connect to the remote server System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: An attempt was made to access a socket in a way forbidden by its access permissions ".Alternatively i use the SMTP connection to create the subscription as well, its working properly.
Here we are accessing SMTP connection manager as Virtually. Here in my client network we are using Macafee Anti virus ,We have excluded the Rsconfigration file in the excluded list.I dont know why this problem occures again using Sendmailtask in ssis?
i have a package that contains a foreach loop container, in this container i have sql tasks, and execute package tasks, that end with a send mail task. if there something wrong with the smtp server, or it's down, the send mail task fails the package. i don't want this to happen, what i want that if the send mail taks fails, the package will continue it's execution.
--i thought of using the event handler... but i don't know if it works...
Is there any differene between on-error event handler and precedence constrain failure? I have created a package and if a data flow task(flat file to DB) fails, the file has to be moved to archive folder. How I have accomplished this is Dataflow task->precedence constrain failed(red arrow)->execute process task to move the file to error folder and it worked,The same execute process task( to move the file to error folder) doesnot work when I move this to on-error event handler. Also, for the same file the on-error event is getting triggered multiple times.
I have multiple task flows with precedence constraints and i have changed the constraint as completion to execute the package even though there is failure in one of the tasks in the package but every time the send mail success is executed instead of Send mail Failure task.
I have an expression in a precedence constraint that is returning false when it should return true. This is the expression that returns false:
((5500 / 9990) * 100) > 10
The following expression returns true. I did the division (5500 / 9990) myself and substituted the resulting value:
((0.55055055055055055055055055055055) * 100) > 10
Why is the first expression returning false? I'm stuck in the mud up to my axles on this and I know I'll probably feel like a fool when I learn the answer...
I have a complex SSIS package which processes excel files, does some validation, fires off some SSRS reports which produce excel files, and finally sends out emails to groups of people with the appropriate file attached. It's been working fine, until recently. Now, when it reaches the send mail task, it raises an error:
Error: An error occured with the following error message: "Could not load file or assembly 'System.web, Versio 4.0.0.0, culture=neautral, publickeytoken= b0f5f7f11d50a3a' or one of its dependancies. Not enough storage space is available to process this command. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070008)". Further down the report comes Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Tasks.SendMailRask.SendMailTask, Microsoft.SqlServer.SendMailTask, Version=11.0.0.0, culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89845dcd8080cc91
This process completes normally when run in Visual Studio. It fails when run from SQL Server Agent.SQL Server Agent is currently running under my user credentials.
I need to send a mail if a file exists or not. I have wrote the code below. I need to get a mail if file exist if not available then also I need to get a mail. where as for below code mail is coming for success or failure.
public void Main() { int a; if (File.Exists(@"D:a.csv")) { Dts.TaskResult = (int)ScriptResults.Success;
(1) contains a for loop task (in which all the logic is contained) that loops through a particular folder for excel files WITHIN THE FOR LOOP: (2) pulls data from an excel file into SQL Tables(Data Transformation Task) (3) run stored proc to validate data (Execute SQL TASK) (4)ON SUCCESS of executing the SQL Task (Script Task - move file to success or reject folder based on value returned from sproc) (5)ON FAILURE of executing the stored proc (Script Task - move file to bad format failure)
NOTE: I have modified the MaximumErrorcount property of (1 FOR LOOP) and (3 EXECUTE SQL TASK) and the package itself to 0. In order to deal with badly formatted excel files...I do not want the package to stop for every missing tab in excel file or data entry error. I simply want the badly formatted file to be moved to a special folder
PROBLEM: on failure logic is never executed (I have 2 options after step (3)) on success do step (4) on failure do step (5) step (3) fails...then it simply iterates to the next file step 5 is never executed
Is this because I changed the maximumerrorcount property? What am I doing wrong witht he Precendence Logic?
I had a Send email task linked to my Sequence Containers in my package and it was working fine. Everytime the container fails it would send an email to myself.
At some point all Failure constraints stopped working. Failure constraints work if I add brand new tasks, but with the existing tasks, they don't work. The Task which fails, turns red and execution stops. Next failure task is not executed.
I am not sure what triggered it to stop working. I cannot get anything on the log
I have an Execute SQL Task that saves the results in a variable such as, RecCounts.
I have a Send Mail Task with a message source of: [User::RecCounts]
However, when I run the package I get this error.
Error: Failed to lock variable "[User::RecCounts]" for read access with error 0xC0010001 "The variable cannot be found.
This occurs when an attempt is made to retrieve a variable from the Variables collection on a container during execution of the package, and the variable is not there. The variable name may have changed or the variable is not being created.".
The Database Trasnfer Task has failed with the following error......failed with the following error: "Invalid object name 'dbo.exampleViewName.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.
I'm trying to put together an SSIS package that will look in one directory for 2 distinctly named .csv files. The files will then be loaded into 2 tables.
The first task I execute is a SQL Task that checks to see if the tables I'm loading the data into are empty. If the tables have data, the package stops executing. If they are empty, the package continues to execute.
What is the best way to send an email out from SSIS if the package stops on the first step?
I have attempted to report out errors at the end of an ETL process by alerting supporting DBAs of errors using the SSIS "Send Mail Task". Task completes along with the sequenced packages, but does not mail anything out. No logic at this time for trigger, just success from the previous task triggering the task to send mail. I also get no errors in the output, and I get no output indicating the send mail task fired, but it does go "green". Do I have to enable database mail and have privileges?
Component Configuration:
SMTP Connection Manager - SMTP Server: arsocex02
Send Mail Editor -

OK. I give up and need help. Hopefully it's something minor ...
I have a dataflow which returns email addresses to a recordset.
I pass this recordset into a ForEachLoop configuring the enumerator as (Foreach ADO Enumerator). I also map the email address as a variable with index 0.
I then have a Execute SQL task which receives this email address as a varchar variable (parameter 0) which I then use in my SQL command to limit the rows returned. I have commented out the where clause and returned all rows regardless of email address to try to troubleshoot this problem. In either event, I then use a resultset to store the query result of type object and result name 0.
I then pass this resultset into a script variable to start parsing the sql rows returned as type object. ( I assume this is the correct way to do this from other prior posts ...).
The script appears to throw an exception at the following line. I assume it's because I'm either not passing in the values properly or the query doesn't return anything. However, I am certain the query works as it executes just fine at the command prompt.
My intent is to email the query results to each email address with the following type of data by passing the parsed data from the script to a send mail task. Email works fine and sends out messages but the content is empty. I pass the parsed data as string values to the messagesource and define the messagesourcetype as a variable in the mail task.
part number leadtime
x 5
y 9
....
Does anyone have any idea what I might be doing wrong?
I'm working on SSIS Package, I messing with one problem. I have a sequence container as a parent & it has 4 data flow task. In that data flow task data is ETL in another database server. According to my requirement, if any of the task is failed then i have to send a mail to the concern person describe the cause of failure. Currently i'm doing this by event handler onerror condition. but for one error it sending 4 mail. becuase for one error it's giving 4 error message. i had used another alternative, on failure of task i connect it to another task that sending mail. but it works only when i use logical OR. But i'm not getting whether it's a correct method or not.
I keep getting a generic "Error Sending Mail" error. For testing purposes I am just trying to send using my own email account. What goes in the SMTP Server box in the connection manager? I have tried:
A - the exchange server address (SOMETHING.us.company.com) B - The SMTP properties I see when I look at the properties of my email address: (my.name@abcd.efgh.company.com) C - Just the end portion of the SMTP properties: (abcd.efgh.company.com) D - My email address (my.name@company.com)
I don't know what to enter, or what is giving me such a generic error message.
I know you can specify additional recipients in the To column by sepperating them with a semicolon. But whats the easiest way to send to several users, when the email address must be retrieved from a table with a query like this:
select email from problem_subscribers
where project = 'project1'
and statusmail = 'OnError'
So when the eventhandler gets an OnError i want the mail task to be sent to each problemsubscriber.
I have a FOR EACH LOOP that loops through a bunch of folders in search of particular filename (including path). That part works fine.
Then, INSIDE the FOR EACH LOOP, I have a script task that evaluates the filename and grabs the date portion of the filename. That part works fine too.
Now, here's my dilemma. If the date portion of the file name IS GREATER THAN the the value of another date in a variable, I want it to load the file into a table using a data flow task.
So, this is what my package looks like:
[ FOR EACH LOOP (Script task --- evaluate the date using an expression (see below) ---> Data flow task) ]
My expression looks like this:
@[User::fileDate] > @[User::maxLoadDate]
You think that this would work, right??
However, after the VERY FIRST iteration of the loop, the script task turns green, then it goes right to the data flow task, which then says that the file name is "", and can't be loaded. (I'm not sure why this is occuring)
My question is, is my logic correct? Can I use an expression inside the for each loop and have it work?
