Integration Services :: Text Was Truncated Or One Or More Characters Had No Match In Target Code Page
Aug 11, 2015
I'm trying to import data in Excel into SQL Server table which you would think would be an absolute doddle seeing as they're both key Microsoft products in the BI family..One of the columns in Excel spreadsheet is Comments1 and a couple of the values in this column are over 300 characters in length yet when I set up the Excel source and then open Advanced Editor and look at Input and output properties this column has a data-type of Unicode string [DT_WSTR] with length of 255 which leads to the truncated error in the title.
I've researched this and on find going into the registry and updating the TypeGuessRows value from 8 to zero. I've done this and yet the data-type is still showing as Unicode string [DT_WSTR] with length of 255. I've even moved the row with the largest number of characters to the top of the spreadsheet and changed the TypeGuessRows value to 1 but the data-type still stays the same.I can't believe that it's soooo difficult to import data from one of Microsoft's key BI applications to another using their 'world-class' integration tool.
I am tryin to run an SSIS package from an Excel Spreadsheet to MS SQL Server 2005.
I receive the error: Text was truncated or one or more characters had no match in the target code page (full report is below).
I found this thread: http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2562259&SiteID=1 and have set the destination column to nvarchar(max), and I have also set the TruncationRowDisposition = RD_IgnoreFailure on the destination column, with no luck.
Any ideas? Thanks!

I have tried to extract data from Pervasive SQL into MS SQL Server using DTS. Due to the server has been set as Chinese language region, the MS SQL is also set as 'Chines_PRC_CI_AS' by default. After the successful extraction and transfer, I have exported the data out to Excel format. Due to different location, I have copy and transfer the data into another reporting server which is having MS SQL 2005.
When trying to import the data into the server, it prompted an error '[Data Conversion 1 [168]] Error: Data conversion failed while converting column "DESC" (166) to column "Copy of DESC" (187). The conversion returned status value 4 and status text "Text was truncated or one or more characters had no match in the target code page.". '. After checking and finding, I found it was due to the chinese characters that are contained inside the data files.
I have tried to change the collation setting inside MS SQL 2005 with the same setting as the MS SQL 2000, but it still not working. Please help and advice.
My source data indeed has leading 0s and I am reading my data into a #Temp Table with the data type of VARCHAR(10)...and its value is "0002565387". I am pumping this data into a SQL Server Table utilizing "OLE DB Destination". My "Flat File Connection Manager" has this column [AdditionalInfo4] defined as string [DT_STR] and the OutputColumnWidth is 100. I don't do any data derivation against this particular data column and simply map it in my "OLE DB Destination" and my database column is defined as [AdditionalInfo4] with a data type of VARCHAR(100).
Upon successful data pump of the data into my SQL Server Table, the column appears in SQL Server as "2565387".
Why is my SSIS solutuion truncating the leading 0s, which are indeed significant, on the data pump of data into my SQL Server Table? Is this possibly just a nuance of SSIS? Should I define a data column derivation for this data column so that the leading 0s are retained?
I have created a SSIS package that runs several reports exporting the file output to a shared directory. Then I email these files as attachments to an email group. I got everything working so far. But when I checked the email there are only some of the attachments (3 out of 6 files).I have created a variable that uses an expression to concatenate several filenames and their paths separated with a "|". When I evaluate the expression it list all six files. When I use the variable in an expression when assigning the "FileAttachments" property in the Expressions tab in the Send Mail Task editor and I evaluate the expression, it only shows 3 out of the 6 files.
Each file name and path is less than 100 characters. Why is this task only grabbing 3 out of the 6 files. If I check the shared directory all 6 files are there. Also, there are two paths in the package that input into the Send Mail Task each creating a different set of report files. Only one of the paths files are getting attached. The connectors to the Send Mail Task are set as Evaluation operation: "Constraint" and the Value: "Completion". Under Multiple constraints I have selected "Logical AND, All constraints must evaluate to True".
I am very new to XML file area in ssis, need to load several files into one DB . Details requirement as below.
- XML file is loaded into DW_EXTERN, and then moved to the archive with a time stamp suffix. --I Know how to move this to Archive folder but i need to move with today's (execution)date, how to do this?
- Loading should be done with usual logging using batches etc. --Done
- We will receive one xml file per day containíng all changes since the previous file. The file is date stamped, showing the period of time the file contains.
- Initially we will receive 700 files (2 years of data). The package must support more than one file in the input queue, and able to load them in the correct order. -- using for each loop to loop thru all files ?As per my knowledge files will sorted and stored in a folder with date modified so, those will get executed in that order, right?
- The package must be able to reload a period. Delete all future records compared to the current file before loading the file. -- Need to delete > source file date from target table and load the file
Here, i have couple of doubts.
1) How to select source file name with date modified value from source folder using For each loop
My objective is to extract the source table data from SQL/Oracle or CSV files and load into destination table using CDC mechansim. May I know the steps required to implement in production from development.
I have a custom SSIS Script task (c# code) which , using WINSCP secure FTP libraries, downloads files from an FTP server to local folder. This works perfectly fine on my personal machine. But when I deploy the project on to Catalog, and try and run the same SSIS package using Agent Service , I get this error - "Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation."
The Service account used to run the package (on the server) has all the needed permissions to write into the folder on the server.
I have an Integration services application that retrieves big strings (over 32k) from an ODBC data source and stores them in a SQL server 2005 database as ntext. Somehow the strings are truncated to 32K. The app only copies the data from the ODBC datasource to the (OLEDB) target. Also, some of the special characters in the input text are not properly translated.
I am loading data from a SQL server source table to oracle destination table and data type on both the tables are same but range is not same VARCHAR2(50) NOT NULL in oracle and sql data type is varchar(200). But when trying to load the data from TABLE SQL to TABLE Oracle i'm getting the following error:
've got an execute task that take data from a simple table ,I set up the variable Passing as object and I pass the variable to a For Each loop container..
I call the variable in the for each loop container and using the script VB I try to msgbox the variable but it gives me the error:
exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation.
I am trying to create a CLR function to call a webservice, the CLR function return data type is double, whether I try to create this as a table valued funcion or a scalar to return a distance travelled value I am receiving the error below.
I've tried changing data types around in the CLR side and the SQL side but keep receiving the same error message:
[Microsoft.SqlServer.Server.SqlFunction(Name = "DistanceCalc")] public static Double DistanceCalc(Double SrcLat, Double SrcLong, Double DestLat, Double DestLong) { MileageWS ws = new MileageWS();
[Code] ....
Error received when try to Create function ... 1, Level 16, State 2, Procedure pcMiler, Line 6 CREATE FUNCTION for "pcMiler" failed because T-SQL and CLR types for return value do not match.
I'm encountering a very peculiar situation when I'm trying to compare source and target data using conditional split. Following is the Data Flow and how I'm trying to achieve this.
Source Data : Col_A (PK) Col_2 1 100 8 500 Target Data : Col_A (PK) Col_2 1 100 3 700 8 500 Look-up Target on Col_A to check for existing records. Now we have four columns in Look-up match output: Col_A, Col_B, Lkp_Col_A (Target Col), Lkp_Col_B (Target Col).
Conditional Split: Compare Col_B with Lkp_Col_B
Update target if there is any change in the existing value of Col_B.When I'm running the package for every record in source, the conditional split fails and even when there is no change in Col_B, some of the records (Not all and quite randomly) get updated with the same value. If I run the package for few records, it works absolutely fine.
I am created a SSIS package to export data. I am exporting query data to a flat file to a different server. I tried to use the UNC path and it failed saying could not access the file. How can I create a SSIS package to export data from one server to another?
I have a SSIS package with Script task ,it performs basic operation of moving files to one location to another .It works fine in VS2012 environment and when i write a SQL job to execute the package ,it fails ,below is the error :
Code: 0x00000001 Source: Script Task_MoveOldFilestoArchive Description: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. End Error DTExec: The package execution returned DTSER_FAILURE (1). Started: 9:54:57 AM Finished: 9:54:58 AM Elapsed: 1.029 seconds. The package execution failed. The step failed.
I am exporting SSRS report to Excel I am aware that excel doesn't show footer , It shows in print preview but my footer has text box which have text disclaimer more than 255 characters, the data getting truncated.
Code page translations are not supported for the text data type. From:1252 To: 950.I would like to know what this message means. I also installed thelanguage packs in advanced settings, Everything is set to English. Mywindows XP computer is XP English. For some reason I cant get an updateto go thru using ADO. like Recordset.UpdateAlthough other routines using .update workAny ideas?
I'm new to SSIS, using Terdata Attunity connector for integrating data flow between Terdata (source) to SQL Server (Target).
SSIS package is getting failed because of length mismatch between source and Target for Unicode character datatype columns. Reason is Teradata TPT always occupies 3 times more length of actual defined in DB.
Even I tried by increasing length of attribute in Source but it didn't work.
I know by converting datatype from unicode -> Latin would work, but i don't want to do conversion since loosing some characters.
################################################## Error is [Teradata Source [263]] Error: TPT Export error encountered during Initiate phase. I think I know the answer but I have a report that is supposed to print in Ledger. It has a header that has report information on the left and on the right has page count and date run. When the user resizes the page to letter, only the first part of the header shows (left piece with report information). Instead of resizing the header it seems it truncates it. Is there a way to resize it. If I move the right side over it looks centered on the Ledger size.
I'm trying to execute a simple VBS file from the Executable command line in the Execute Process Task Editor.
My line is this : cscript.exe "c:convertcsvssisXlsToCsv.vbs"
SSIS keeps saying there are illegal characters here. I've Googled and looked about 20 articles and I can't resolve it.
I have a ForEach that loops through Excel files and changes them to CSV files using code i found. This script takes an original Excel file and transfers it to a new CSV file in a new directory.
So in DOS at the CMD line I would type : XlsTocsv.vbs originalfile.xls newfile.csv
I have the original file and new file in the Arguments line so I'm assuming that after the script executes it will look at the filepaths in the loop and loop through them so I want it do to this when it runs:
XlsTocsv.vbs [User::@ExcelFile] [User::@CSVFile]
I just can't get it to execute and I keep getting illegal characters.
I have an application in C# in which i have few events like download,Import and I have written all the code for that and its working fine but I have to schedule these processes so that I need not to run it manually daily. I am trying to write an Integration services package through which I could handle the required event, without rewriting the whole code.
How to download files from a webpage before loading into SQL Server tables? I have the following URL and under the Downloads & Resources section, I have different file formats.
By doing hover on the download tab for each file type, I see that there is a link that is associated with it just like the following:
For CSV - [URL] .... For XML - [URL] ....
The above is just an example for your reference/understanding. In the sample data from the internal website I have, I need to do a similar operation. The only difference would be that I would be having multiple XLS files with a description for each.
<li> Sales for Calendar Year 2015--All Countries <a href="/Data/Downloads/Documents/Sales/Sales_Quarter1.xlsx"> [XLS]</a> , <a href="/Data/Downloads/Documents/Sales/Sales_Quarter1.pdf">[PDF]</a> </li>
I need to download the file based on the month/quarter every time.
Before we release an SSIS package into our test environment and then eventually into our production environment, we set the package protection level to "EncryptAllWithPassword"
The "View Code" feature is a nice tool to find things that might be buried in the package somewhere (e.g an complex expression to a variable).
PROBLEM : After one sets the package protection level to "EncryptAllWithPassword", one cannot see the xml source code any longer. It's like compiling and saving cs to the bin. Is their a way to view the code again??
SQL Server 2000 documentation says that the syproperties value (via sp_addextendedproperty) has a limit of 7,500 bytes. So I have a property (MS_Description) on a column which is 654 characters long. When I run fn_listextendedproperty or if I select value from sysproperties I get only the first 256 characters returned. As if the field was truncated when I added it. BUT, if I select something like right(cast(value as varchar(1000)), 200) from sysproperties, I see the remaining characters. So they are there but I can never return the entire string at one time.
Any ideas why this is and how I can get around it?
I have all this gray space at the top of my tasks. When I <Ctrl>+<Alt>+<Left-click> to select all of my tasks and then try sliding it up, it creates even more gray space and actually moves it down. If instead when I <Ctrl>+<Alt>+<Left-click> and then <Ctrl>+<Arrow-up> it doesn't move it. Is there any easy way to eliminate all this gray space at the top?

But the requirement is to have a dynamic query where we can have more number of Codes or less number of codes and similarly the package should generate dynamic text files, one .txt file per code. What is the best way to create a package which can meet the above requirement?
