Can Anything Other Than An Image Be Used In Custom Toolbox Items

I have developed a renderer that renders the xml to paint a rectangle with textboxes in all the right places based on the data retrieved off the database. When i render the a complete report to the reportviewer i have no problem.
I need however to render the rectangle into a custom report item for reusability and different scenarios. This just seem to be impossible since it seems like I cant use anything other than an imagemap to render custom report items. Is this true?
To make sure you understand....in other words....
Is there a way to develop a Microsoft.ReportingServices.ReportRendering.IRenderingExtension that renders the required xml like rectangles/textboxes etc. and then migrate this to a custom toolbox item. It just seems like this should be a very easy thing to do and something regularly needed. For example when you want to use textboxes in certain positions within a rectangle to draw a organisational chart.
BI Dev Studio I See No DATAFLOW DESTINATIONS In The Toolbox
May 17, 2007I just installed sql2005 and bi dev studio on a vista box. Then VS 2005 and all svc packs.
I create a new SSIS package but don't see any Data Flow Destinations in the toolbox while on the dataflow tab. I choose "show all" and don't see any data flow destinations anywhere.
I can use the wizard to create packages, and it adds destinations just fine.
Anyone have any idea what may be wrong?
Reset Toolbox Doesn't Delete My Components

I am in the process of developing a custom component. During that time I went through many versions of my custom component, including various DLL names and signatures, different code etc.
The problem is that now I have old versions of my custom components stuck in the default settings of the toolbox. When I reset the toolbox, even if I manually deleted the old items, it appears again.
I tried to delete all the DLLs I previously copied to the SQL Server directories, and also uninstalled all the DLLs from GAC.
The result was that the new components didn't appear, and I don't have the option to choose them in the "choose items" menu, but they still appear on the toolbox.
It is not something I can't live with, but it's really annoying seeing old and irrelevant versions right in your face...
Please help :-)
Custom DataFlow Transformation Not Showing Up In Toolbox
Nov 27, 2006I've created a custom data flow tranformation and it isn't showing up in the Tool Box Items to be added under the Data Flow Items tab (right click on tool box, 'Choose Items...', then clicked Data Flow Items).
I have done the following:
signed the assembly,
added to GAC,
copied the dll to C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90DTSPipelineComponents.
It worked previously when I was just starting out, however now I cannot see it. What would cause it to not show up? Everything compiles fine. How would I determine how to fix it so that it shows up?
Adding Custom Buttons To The Parameters Toolbox?

I am interested in adding custom buttons to the parameters toolbox (under "View Report"). I'm trying to provde a way for users viewing the report to go "Back" or up a level (in the drill through reports). Does anyone have any information on this topic, or know if it's even possible?

Dataflow Tab:There Is No ODBC Source Option In The Toolbox
Feb 27, 2007I need to extract data from tables in a database that I can only access via ODBC.
I have successfully created a connection in Connection Manager (ConnectionManagerType = ODBC) for this database.
However I€™m unable to add this connection as a Data Flow Source. There is no ODBC Source option in the Toolbox.
This is a major because we have been using the system dsn Microsoft Visual Foxpro Driver to access free table directory .dbf files under ODBC with DTS for years. To install a new Microsoft OLEDB driver for foxpro is out of the question on a production system as it would cost many thousands of dollars to go through our BAT testing process
How do I extract data from tables in a database via ODBC?

Sql Server Business Intelligence Studio Missing Default Operations In Toolbox

Here is the issue I'm encountering.
Steps to recreate:
Start Business Intelligence Stuido
Select New Project
Select Integration Services Project from Templates
Project opens with default package.dtsx
Open Toolbox but I am missing all but a few of my items
Only items available are MAINTENANCE PLAN TASKS and GENERAL(which is totally empty)
I've changed the view from List View to Show All but which will display all the groups but all the options in those groups are grayed out.
I'm running on Windows Vista Business edition with SQL server 2005(9.0.3054) with SSIS installed. If someone could help me figure out why I don't have any avaible options it would be greatly appreciated.

I have a generic SSIS package which simply sends out email notifications using SMTP email task (this package is within its own project, and has project level input parameters).
I need to be able to call this package in the Event handler section of every package (numbering in about less than 60) that we have. These packages are within their own respective projects.
I thought I could use the "execute package task", but it turns out , using this, I cannot call a package that is part of some other project. I also cannot call a package that is stored in the CATALOG. Is there any way I can do this ?
When I call the child package , I should be able to send in parameters like - error information and package name of the Parent package.

Can anyone help regarding the SQL server integration Services(SSIS), ETL
We have requirement like this:
We have Live Database( LIVE_DB ) and Reports Database (REP_DB)
I want to trasfer the few tables data from LIVE_DB into the REP_DB for end of the day using SSIS
If any new records are added, updated or deleted in LIVE_DB, these should reflect in the REP_DB, Our requirement is not to delete the old data, we should append or delete or insert the new transaction data in REP_DB.

I did explicitly install SSDT when I installed VS2015. I also installed it separately. I see SSDT listed in Programs, and SSIS is running according to SQL Server Config Manager, and Services. Half of Microsoft's docs seem to be 2012 era, which is a shame because 2014 is out and it's nearly 2016...

Integration Services :: Using SSIS To Populate Excel
Sep 25, 2015We'll be using 2014 enterprise to populate some excel spreadsheets. We may not have the option of using ssrs so here is the question.
The excel spreadsheets have some pretty fancy heading structures, multiple tabs and in a few cases graphs that i'm sure are dependent on data sitting somewhere in the spreadsheet. The heading have variable info in them (eg FYxx where xx is a parameterized fiscal year, month names etc). Sometimes those headings have sub headings (with variable info) and so on.
Generally speaking how (if at all) do folks deal with this kind of excel challenge when limited to using ssis? I don't know if templates are going to be a good idea. I don't know if i'll be looking at a fair amount of c# etc code behind the scenes. I can be more specific depending on the feedback.
This is part of a conversion from 2 of the larger BI and statistical tools out there to the MS sql stack. Obviously with some shortcuts that we may wish we didn't take. Â

Apr 19, 2015Â we have a table with xml column. This column has a large xml data . I am trying to use ssis to import xml from sql column (table a) to destination (another table).
steps which i did in ssis:
1. Â execute sql task:
  fetch the xml column by query and store "full result set" into an object variable.
2. foreach loop:
select Ado enumerator option and select variable which has reset set of execute sql task. In variable mapping selected a new variable of type string.
when I run package I get below error:
"Error: ForEach Variable Mapping number 1 to variable "User::variable" cannot be applied".

Jun 23, 2015Have Visual Studio 2008 R2 with SP 2 installed. Due to a merger we now have a MySQL database that we need to update from SSIS. Everything works except for the table insert or update. Would upgrading to SP 3 or SP 4 maybe useful with that?Â
We have installed the latest driver from MySQL. Have tried the ADO.Net and ODBC drivers with similar results when we try to update the database.

( Each package loads different tables and different numbers )These are run on weekly basis one after the other. Each package is taking around 60 to 90 minutes each. Now i want to track the progress of the ETL on my front End application.Â
We want this in two ways.Â
First Way : I need to show the user how much percent of ETL Process is completedÂ
Second Way : I need to show the No of tables completed and how many rows have been completed in the ongoing table ( which is in process )

1. Mandatory  field checking: if Null, reject the record
 2. If field length > 50, then reject the record
SSN
1. Â If field length > 12, then reject the record
2. If SSN is not in valid format, issue warning and process rhe record  without SSN value.
3. Valid format: 9 digit numeric values should present after striping off  all non-numeric characters.
4. Only send 9 digits to MDM
Like these i have 30 rules. And I have to shop the error msg if the validation fails like "Mandatory feild is missing".

Jun 4, 2015I'm unable to find a solution to this truncation error on google.This happens only on one field which has comments. The offending Excel row/column has text that was entered in two lines i.e they entered the data and pressed "enter" and wrote a new line in the same row.Im using an Excel file source in SSIS and an OLEDB Destination (SQL Server) but one column keeps erroring out and I have tried to do the following:
1) Change output column width in advanced editor (still errors)
2) Data conversion tool between the source and destination (still errors)
