SUB: pushing data to SQL server from Informix, Oracle and Cache DB
we r doing some application and SQL server as backend DB Server. this sql server has to be updated continiously 24*7 with data from 3 external sources Cache DB, Iformix and Oracle DB servers. How to handle this in such away that all changes at 3 external sources to be updated to SQL server and this data will use by our application at frondend.
we though of ODBC., but ODBC is very very slow. It should lke Shadowing.
How to handle this?. any help will greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I want to connect to an Informix Database via SSIS to read and store data. I did some search online and have downloaded Informix ODBC Drivers. I installed the drivers and am trying to configure a System DSN but have few doubts on what each field indicate. URL... I am not sure on what to enter in fields like IBM Informix Server, Service Name? Connecting to Informix DB via SSIS?

Why can you not turn off the caching in a Lookup against Oracle?
I have an exceedingly complicated SQL statement like this -
SELECT OBJECT_ID, OBJECT_CODE FROM OBJECT_TABLE
If I turn off the cache for a lookup I get bombarded with this rubbish-
Error 8 Validation error. DFT Load STATUS: LKP Get RESULT_NO [128]: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E14. An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle" Hresult: 0x80040E14 Description: "ORA-00933: SQL command not properly ended ". Update.dtsx 0 0
Error 9 Validation error. DFT Load DAY_STATUS: LKP Get RESULT_NO [128]: OLE DB error occurred while loading column metadata. Check SQLCommand and SqlCommandParam properties. Update.dtsx 0 0
I have tried modifying the Cache SQL Statement as well, but to no avail. I am using the MSDAORA.1 provider against "Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.7.0 - 64bit Production".
Any ideas ?

How do I know when its the right time to use the Cache Connection Manager? I understand that Full Cache mode eliminates the need to query the lookup table for every row.
Is the Cache Connection Manager intended for use by multiple packages that need access to the same lookup data?

Hi guys,
I am looking at the plan caches/cached pages from the perspective of
sys.dm_os_memory_cache_counters and sql serverlan Cache - Cache Pages
For the first one I am using
select (sum(single_pages_kb) + sum(multi_pages_kb) )
from sys.dm_os_memory_cache_counters
where type = 'CACHESTORE_SQLCP' or type = 'CACHESTORE_OBJCP'
a slight change from a query in
http://blogs.msdn.com/sqlprogrammability/
For the second just perfmon.
The first one gives me a count of about 670,000 pages only for the object and query cache and the second one gives me a total of about 100,000 pages for five type of caches including object and query.
If I am using the query from http://blogs.msdn.com/sqlprogrammability/ to determin the plan cache size
select (sum(single_pages_kb) + sum(multi_pages_kb) ) * 8 / (1024.0 * 1024.0) as plan_cache_in_GB
from sys.dm_os_memory_cache_counters
where type = 'CACHESTORE_SQLCP' or type = 'CACHESTORE_OBJCP'
it gives me about 5 GB when in fact my SQL Server it can access only max 2GB with Total and Target Server Memory at about 1.5 GB.
Does anyone have any idea what is going on?

I am having an issue while transferring some tables from sql server database to oracle schema. The table has over 150 million records. I have created a view referencing that table and am transferring the view. I am using "Oracle Destination" data flow destination using Microsoft Connector for Oracle by Attunity with SQL Server 2008 Integration Services. I am repeatedly getting the following error:OCI error encountered. ORA-12571: TNS:packet writer failure The attempt to add a row to the Data Flow task buffer failed with error code 0xC0047020.

I've a simple lookup transform in SSIS 2008 (R2). I've created it with a full cache and it worked fine. When i switch to partial cache, it will give me this error:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TITLE: Package Validation Error
------------------------------
Package Validation Error
------------------------------
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Error at DFT_AdventureWorks [Lookup [411]]: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005.
[Code] ....
I've created a OLE source with the following query :
SELECT
SalesOrderID,
OrderDate,
CustomerID
FROM Sales.SalesOrderHeader
And this will flow into the lookup transform and this has the following lookup reference query:
SELECT CustomerID,
AccountNumber
FROM Sales.Customer
WHERE CustomerID % 7 <>0

I am using a lookup and full cache, occasionally i get this warning:[Lookup [150]] Warning: The component "Lookup" (150) encountered duplicate reference key values when caching reference data. This error occurs in Full Cache mode only. Either remove the duplicate key values, or change the cache mode to PARTIAL or NO_CACHE. Now I know it is only a warning but it is highlighting a real issue. Is there a way of capturing that this has happened?

I would like to export all tables from Oracle 11.2 to MS SQL Server 2012 R1.
Using the tool "Microsoft SQL Server Migration Assistant v6.0 for Oracle" did not work for me because there are too many warnings and errors regarding the schema creation (MS cannot know it because they are not the schema designer). My idea is to leave/skip the schema creation to the application designer/supplier and instead concentrate on the Oracle data export and MS SQL data import.
What is the easiest way to export all tables data from Oracle to MS SQL Server quickly?
Is it:
- the „MS SQL Import and Export Data“ Tool
- the “MS SQL Integration Services” Tool
- not Oracle dump *.dmp format because it is a propritery binary format
- flat file *.csv (delimited format)

We are using the cache transformation in our project , while doing the cache transformation our disk space goes to 0 MB free and SSIS package execution not completes even after 3 hr..Initially we have around 34 GB free space on C: drive .Our server configuration is 64 RAM. We are caching the data from table which contains around 21 million records. We changed the path in properties (“BLOPTempStoragePath”,”BufferTempStoragePath”) of Data Flow task of SSIS in which we are using Cache Transformation.

I work in the healthcare area, and am handling the survey data ETL's. There are around 8 different survey areas and based on information received from them for the visit they reference, I want to pull in more info from our invoicing database. My idea is this:
1.) Pull in the flat file to an ODBC staging table
2.) Cache all invoice records that fall between the MIN(Date of Service) and MAX(Date of Service) from the staging table.
3.) First lookup the information needed on patientID, providerID, date of service, and billing location.
4.) For the surveys that didn't match on those 4 columns, try looking up based on patientID, date of service, and billing location (since I could be 99% sure this would still return the record I need).
5.) For the remaining surveys, lookup based just on patientID and date of service. These records will be flagged for manual review because clearly, if a patient has multiple appointments in the same day, this will be prone to error.
However, in trying to use only 3 of the columns in the lookup, I get the error saying basically that I need to utilize all 4. Is there a way around this, or is there an entirely different way I should be approaching this? The reason I thought cache transform was the answer is because I will need to run a different package for each lookup, as the data and logic between each survey will vary, but the invoice data "pool" will stay the same regardless.

I'm currently loading a package that does a lookup on a column of data type nvarchar(4).The values itself are (A+, A, B+, B, C, D, /). The strange lookup behaviour is happening for each of the cases, so it's not related to a specific value. After trying to put the cache on NO CACHE, the lookup works perfectly. When using the default FULL CACHE the strange behaviour happens. Could it be related to the data type? I have not yet tried to use a CHAR instead of a NVARCHAR but it looks like people have similar issues using CHAR.

Im getting this error when trying to set up a cache dependency...are there any special permissions etc?From CS:SqlCacheDependency dep = new SqlCacheDependency("MySite-Cache", "Products");Cache.Insert("Products", de.GetAllProductsList(), dep); From connectionStrings.config:<add name="SiteDB" connectionString="Data Source=localhost,[port]SQLEXPRESS;Integrated Security=true;User Instance=true; AttachDBFileName=|DataDirectory|ASPNETDB.MDF" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />Also tried this using my machinename<add name="SiteDB" connectionString="Data
Source=<machinename>,[port]SQLEXPRESS;Integrated Security=true;User
Instance=true; AttachDBFileName=|DataDirectory|ASPNETDB.MDF"
providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /> From web.config: <caching> <sqlCacheDependency enabled="true" pollTime="10000"> <databases> <add name="MySite-Cache" connectionStringName="SiteDB" pollTime="2000"/> </databases> </sqlCacheDependency> </caching> EDIT: So making progress I can't seem to get the table registered for cache dependency:The sample i have says"aspnet_regsql.exe -E -S .SqlExpress -d aspnetdb -t Customers -et"and the command line response is "Enabling the table for SQL cache dependency..An error has happened. Details of the exception:The table 'Customers' cannot be found in the database."Where does this "Customers" table come from? There is obviously not an application specific "Customers" table in aspnetdb I'm confused probably more by the example than anything....

Is there a way to drop clean buffers at the database level instead of the server/instance level like the undocumented DBCC FLUSHPROCINDB (@dbid)??
Is there a workaround for dbo? to be able to flush procedure and data cache without being elevated to sysadmin? server role?
PS: I am aware of the sp_recompile option that can be used to invalidate cached execution plans.
Thx.

I'm using - Destination - Oracle driver - oraOLEDB.Oracle.1 (native ole dboracle provider for ole db)
Source - SQL driver - microsoft ole db prover for sql server. I want to import data from sql server to oracle. Challenge is, I have 1 million records on oracle. I have 100 records on sql server (these 100 records count will change daily). So, I thought of using 'lookup' task looking taking record from ms sql and fetch corresponding record from oracle. But when I use lookup, all records from oracle are loading into cache, which is taking approx 3 hrs.

Oracle linked server. If I query Oracle in my packages using SQL it tooks age if I use an OLE DB Oracle connection it takes minutes, so I started to develop my packages using the OLE DB Oracle. The point is that in order to connect the Oracle db I must set up a password (Oracle requires a password but if I use directly SQL it doesn't need any password). This password changes every month so I do need to set up the password for...if I can come up with another solution? I don't know, maybe a unique connection...just set up the password only once.

For each row coming out of my data source, I would like to add the result of an Oracle query to it (select sequence.nextval from dual).
I need to acquire the sequence number before all my processes in my data flow, so I don't want to have a trigger in Oracle call nextval and do it automatically for me.
I also think getting the value of nextval inside of a variable at the beginning of the process would not work because it only increments the value once.

OS : Win7, 64bit
Software : Oracle Clients 32bit and 64 bit (11g), SSIS 2012
I have installed both 32bit and 64bit oracle ODACs during the clients installations, and then i have installed the ssis 2012.
When i open .udl file i can see the 'Oracle Provider for OLE DB' provider and connect to the oracle db.
When i try to open new Ole DB connection in the ssis the 'Oracle Provider for OLE DB' is not listed under the 'Native Ole DB' providers.
i tried to reinstall both ODACs of 32 and 64 bit of the oracle but still the provider is not listed under the ssis providers.why ?

I've made connections in SSIS to Oracle before by setting up TNS but this latest connection is different.
I've been give an SSL cert that I had to import into the Oracle Wallet Manager and to get connected in 'Oracle SQL Developer' I had to choose connectionType = advanced and drop the following line in the JDBC URL section
jdbc:oracle:oci:@(DESCRIPTION =(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCPS)(HOST = server.domain.com)(PORT = 2484))(CONNECT_DATA =(SERVICE_NAME = XXXXX)))
So my question is. How can I go about making a connection like this in SSIS?
Just incase it matters, I'm working with OracleClient 11g

In previous versions of BIDS we were able to customize the DataFlow toolbox to incorporate the Oracle Source and Oracle Destination items - however, it appears this is no longer the case in SSDT (no option to customize toolbox). I've installed the 3.0 Microsoft Connectors for Oracle - when I create a new connection in the Connection Manager I can see the Attunity drivers, but under Other Source/Other Destinations in the Toolbox I cannot find the Oracle Source/Destination components.

Hi all,
Anyone here ever used the Informix database and can give me some differences between Informix and SQL.
One of our users is thinking about purchasing a COTS product that only supports an Informix database. I need to convince the user to evaluate other rival applications that can support SQL and need some arguments in favor of not going with Informix.
Any ideas appreciated,
Faustina
