Merge Replication Failing After Recreating The Publication
Jun 7, 2006I am having a problem with merge replication after recreating a publication. It is a simple two-way replication between two servers allowing applications to update data at both ends, i.e. 1 publisher, 1 subscriber for all tables except some junk ones. The problem started after I did the following:
1) I dropped and recreated the publication to allow for some changes to the database schema. These caused problems so I dropped the subscription and publication and restored the databases at each end from backups taken before we started.
2) When I created the publication again, it wouldn't let me use the same name as it thought the publication already existed. It let me use a different name instead.
3) Most things work OK but one of the tables is not replicating inserts from the subscriber to the publisher. There are no errors and no conflicts, other similar tables replicate OK. Inserts go across the other way OK.
4) I am getting replication conflicts on another table that says 'Unable to synchronize the row because the row was updated by a different process outside of replication'
I believe the problem is to do with the original publication details still being in the restored databases, so am looking to drop the publication & subscription, remove the remnants of the old publication, fix the data and recreate pub & sub. What do I need to do to get rid of the old replication data in the database?

Jan 28, 2008Hi All, this system is scheduled to go live in near to a day... but i have hit an issue when switching on SSL. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

SQL Server Mobile 2005.
Merge replication works fine without SSL. After running the Configure Web Sync wizzard to setup SSL merge replication no longer works. Note i checked using pocket IE by browsing to https://mycompany.com/pub/sqlcesa30.dll?diag and all worked fine. There was no prompt saying the cert was bad etc.
The certificate is a:

I have merge replication configured over VPN and the replication is failing to connect to the subscriber through Named pipes with the error Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server ......
Actually , I am having issues with Named pipes connection from publisher to subcriber. I have enabled the protocols and also enabled the remote connections using both tcp/ip and named pipes. I have created the client network alias using named pipes
Also, due to security reasons only few ports have been released on the subscriber. Please provide me some information on the following.
1) Does any port specifically be released for listening on named pipes? i am able to connect using tcpip with out any issues as 1433 has been released.
2) How to configure the replciation to use tcpip and not named pipes (guess by default it will use named pipes)?
Integrity Checks Failing
Apr 21, 2003I have a few databases on this Windows 2000 Server running
SQL 2000 which were detached from SQL 7.0 and attached to
SQL 2000.
The problem is the Maintenance Plans (Integrity Checks
keep failing on SQL 2000. I 'DTS'ed a SQL 7.0 database to
this SQL 2000 server and ran the Maintenance Plans on that
database. Works fine only for the DTS'ed database.
What am I missing ???

SQL 2012 :: Backup Job And Integrity Checks Are Failing?

We have database maintenance plans through wizard for full backup & DBCC CHECK DB. It was running successfully but it failed with the below error

I can able to take the backup from query window. It is succesful. The Sql Agent has full permissions. I don't think there are any recent changes happen.
Cannot Open Database During Merge Replication

I am replicating an SQL2005 express machine to SQL2005 standard edition server using merge replication.
I have a simple VB application using ADO polling msMerge_history at the subscriber every second so that i can show the end user the progress of the replication.
When the subscription first subscribes and after the initial snapshot is applied replication downloads all changes from the server that have been changed since the snapshot was created.
Towards the end of this download faze the VB polling application fails with "Cannot open database "DBName" requested by the login. The login failed."
This connection fails 4 or 5 times and then normal polling resumes. The scary thing is that sometimes when the polling connection fails the merge replication does not complete and if i check msMerge_Sessions the "runstatus" is stuck at 3 (InProgress).
1) Is the reason the ADO polling connection fails because of some sort of lock between replication and reading the system tables?
2) Is replication getting stuck because of locks?
3) What can i do to get around this?

SQL Server CE Replication: Integrity Error, But Not At All

Description: The row update or insert cannot be reapplied due to an integrity violation.
Server side: SQL Server 2000 or MSDE
Client side: SQL Server CE or SQL Mobile
This error is usually caused because of an error on the filters. But not in this case, i think.
I assume it's not a filter error because if I delete the SDF and run the sync it works.
The error occurs when I delete some rows in the server (parent(OrdersHeader) and child(OrderLines) tables) and the PocketPC stills have this rows.
On the next synchronization It seems that replication process tries to delete the OrdersHeader rows before the OrderLines rows.
Is there any way to control the synchronization updating order? Or Is there any know issue about this?
It doesn't occur always but it occurs often. And I still haven't found the way to replicate the error.
SQL Server 2012 :: Merge Statement Using SCD2 Failing?
Mar 18, 2015I have created mergse statement using SCD2.where I am inserting the data if my BBxkey is not matching with target and updating the rows if the bbxkey is matching and rowchecksum is different.
Working of Store procedure
There are 2 scenario covered in this procedure on the basis of that ETL happening.
There are 2 columns deriving from source table at run time, one is BBxkey which is nothing but a combination of one or more column or part of column and another column is a Rowchecksum column which is nothing but a Hashvalue of all the column of the tables for a row.
Merge case 1:-WHEN NOT MATCH THEN INSERT
If source BBxkey is not there in Archive table that means if BBxKey is null then those records are new and it will directly inserted into Archive table.
Merge case 2:-WHEN MATCH THEN UPDATE
If Source.BBxkey=Target.BBxkey && Source.Rowchecksum<>Target.Rowchecksum then this means source records are available in Archive table but data has been changed, in this case it will update the old record with latestversion 0 and insert the new record with latestversion 1.

I know that adding a column using ALTER TABLE to add a column automatically allows SQLSERVER 2005 to replicate the schema changes to the subscribers, however, I would like to add a new column to an existing article that is being used for merge replication, however, I don't want this column to be replicated. Re-initialising the subscriptions is not a option. Help would be appreciated.

SQL Server 2005 - Replication - Snapshot Failing
Dec 14, 2006I have a "merge" publication created, with only Procedures, Views and Functions. (Note I have other merge publications that replicate the tables from the same database). I keep getting the same error (see -below) on various procedures. I cannot find anything wrong with the procedures themselves. I also checked the offending procedure by removing it from the publication and compiling it in the database...it works fine. None of my other publications (all tables) encounter this error. * I have 3 others.

Replication Snapshot Failing - QUOTED IDENTIFIER

My replication is failing to apply the initial snapshot because of the issue with QUOTED identifier. The snapshot files for the stored procedure are being generated using the 'SET QUOTED IDENTIFIER ON' where as my store procedure code is using the double quotes for string comparision e.g if @val = "test".
It is not possible for me to change the sps code as there are 1000+ sps exists. Is there any way to generate the snapshot files with 'SET QUOTED IDENTIFIER OFF'
SQL 6.5 Replication Task Failing Due To ODBC Login Failure
Nov 2, 1999I'm "trying" to set up Replication. The Publishing/Distribution server is in one domain, and the subscribing server is in another. Both domains are fully trusted.
The synchronization step builds the .tmp file, but the repl_subscriber Distribution task bites the dust with an error message, "28000[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server] Login failed".
The setting on the distribution options dialog box is ODBC, SQL Server. I'm not using a special login/password. I've even tried putting a user name and password there, and it doesn't work. The ODBC connections test out fine on both servers. Any suggestions where I've gone wrong?

The creation is ok but when I look to the dependencies, I see that it depends on GetSiGuichetEnRegle only.
For me, it shall also depend on
AnotherTable
spU_GUI_AppliquePerteFinancement
spU_GUI_AppliquePerteAgrement
FormateNoms
Apparently the dependencies are not calculated correctly because I'm using a temporary table.
My problem is that I have updated this stored procedures (and the two other that I call) to add a new parameter. As a consequence, when I do a replication, this is failing saying that I have an extra parameter. I imagine that because my dependencies are not correct, the replication is not occuring in the correct order and so it's still using the old definition of the stored procedure.
Do you have any idea on how I can force the dependencies to be calculated correctly ?

Transactional Replication Failing - The Process Could Not Bulk Copy

I'm trying to setup transaction replication between 2 servers. This is a
one-way replication: Server A to Server B, not Server B to Server A.
I am able to replicate all the tables except one. I added
commands to the agent so that it would create an output file, possibly with
more or better information.

Replication :: Failing To Create Subscription For One Node But Working For Other Nodes

The duplicate key value is . (Source: MSSQLServer, Error number: 2601)The subscription could not be created.

Replication Failing While Applying Snapshot As The Stored Procs Are Out Of Sync
Aug 28, 2007Replication is failing while applying the snapshot as the stored procs are out of sync ( the objects referenced in the stored procedures are no more exists in the database) . Is there any easy way to identify the out of sync procedures so that I can exclude these stored procedures from the articles list. I am having around 1000 procs and is not possible to test them by executing.

Merge Replication Set Off Transactional Replication
Oct 9, 2007I am working on bringing our disaster recovery site to be a live site. Currently we replicate to one of out servers (server B) with merge replication (from server A). Server A also does one way transactional replication form some table to several other servers including servers at the DR site.
This setup is not going to be fast enough for what we need so I am wondering if a table is receiving merge replication will the merge updates also replicate down the transaction path??
Example...
Server B update a row and merges to Server A. With this update them replicate (via transactional) to Server C??

In sql 2000 you get a nice little log in SQL Logs

But in SQL 2005
Im not getting a nice log of this but getting it against some system database and not the database i selected

i heard that the transactional log growth in sql server should be fixed to maximum available disk space and must be monitore the threshold through maintenance plan.how can it be done. please advice me through maintance plan instead of

Aug 2, 2006I have a database hosted that doesnt passes the integrity test. Here is the error it gives :
Executing the query "USE [db_cs]
failed with the following error: "Could not locate entry in sysdatabases for database 'db_cs'. No entry found with that name. Make sure that the name is entered correctly.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.
Any idea whats wrong and how I can let the integrity test pass for this db.

Feb 16, 2007I have setup a full maintenance plan on SQL2005. When I run the job, I don't see any error but by loooking at the Log file viewer it appears that Check Database Integrity step failed because :
Alter failed for Server 'LUMONT001'.
Moreover, when I run DBCC CHECKDB from the console I have no error message. Any clue?

AppDB - The main application database.
GeoDB - A somewhat static ZIP code / states / other geographic stuff database
I need to have some foreign key columns in tables in AppDB reference columns in the GeoDB database tables. Eventually other application database besides AppDB will be doing the same thing in our infrastructure. After googling and reading for days, here is what I think I know:
You cannot create foreign keys that reference tables in another database in SQL Server.
You cannot create foreign keys that reference columns in a view, and you definitely cannot make an index on a view that has base tables in another database.
You can create a trigger that references tables in another database, but this can be flaky? (nested/recursive trigger problem).
SQLServer2005 supports multiple schemas within the same database. Maybe I should logically separate my databases this way? Seems like it would be a tough solution to manage since I already have some databases live in production that will eventually use this 'static' GeoDB. Also, seems like itwouldn't be as portable as keeping the GeoDB info in its own database, but maybe I'm being too software engineer-ish here - afraid of low cohesion, high coupling.
I will greatly appreciate any advice I can get, any links to articles, or any more options I am missing.
