Does clicking interactive sort button in a column reporting services 2005 result re-execution of the query.
Or will it just re-print the rendered data in the layout and so perform better in comparison to the implementation which can be done using drill down to same report with the help of some extra parameters
I know this is not available now, but is it plan in the near future:
I want to be able to set the initial sort order on the interactive sort.
for example, I have a report sorted Asc by Rank. If I click on the interactive sort button on the Rank column, it resorts ascending... totally pointless, and my customers point this out on a weekly basis...
Any plans to add this feature? If not, I will go to connect and suggest it.
You say, "we enjoy the option of specifying sorting for multiple columns within the matrix, table or list within which we are working." But, when I add interactive sorting to the headers of a matrix, the up and down toggles appear in the preview, but the rows are not sorted after clicking.
This works perfectly fine on tables, as you say, but I have yet to see it on a matrix.
Is there any way to change the interactive sorting icon or even adjust it? When I add the functionality to a column, it skews the column heading to make room for it. This means that reports that previously displayed properly no longer look correct. If I adjust the width of the report to allow room for the icon, then the report overflows its boundary in terms of printing.
Also, the icon does not display evenly all the time. Sometimes, it displays directly next to the text and sometimes it is off to the right more.
I want to implement interactive sorting on few columns of my report. That is working fine but the the button coming for interactive sort is taking extra space.
I have some space constrains due to too many columns in the report and so i want that implementation without the button(its taking extra space and also ruining the alignment) , may be with a underline in the column header like hyperlink or something.
I have a report that has a drill down option that shows all workgroups within a specific parent group and an interactive sorting ass well on both columns parent group & workgroup
This is displayed in pps combined with a SharePoint
The problem is that after sorting the parent group column by name I then press the drill through icon (+) next to it hopping to see all workgroups related to each parent group - but instead
I receive this Reporting Services Error :
The value for parameter 'SortItem' is not specified. It is either missing from the function call, or it is set to null. (rsMissingParameter)
If I don't press the sorting and just drill through it works fine. the sorting itself also works fine.
I have a report that contains a table with certain columns that have interactive sorting. At the top of the report there is a subreport that contains an embedded image. When I first run the report, the image in the subreport displays. But, when I sort the table interactively, the image turns into a red asterisk inside a white box. When I click the 'refresh' button, the image redisplays correctly. This is occurring in the Visual Studio 2005 Report Designer when you preview the report. I believe I have the most current version of Visual Studio. I'm not sure what to do about this. Any suggestions?
I've been reading a lot of posts on this subject. I understand that the issue is due to the fact that the subreport is only rendered once. So after the main report is sorted on another column, the cell with the subreport produces an error.
What I want to know is whether or not this is considered a defect. And if it is a defect, is it fixed in another version?
I am currently running SSRS SQL2008R2 SP2 (20.50.4000.0)
I am using Report Builder 3.0 and i have report which has a drill down group. The report opens in a collapsed form. This report has interactive sorting on a column. But,when we drill down and sort the column, the group collapses and the details disappear.
In some posts, i have seen that instead of interactive sorting, people recommended a parameter. But i have to do interactive sorting only.
I am facing one problem with reporting services 2005 (SSRS), When i try to pass a parameter to Cube which is built in SSAS, i can not use a parameter where i can type the value instead of choosing it from a dimension.
Any way we can type the value for parameter, instead choosing from the drop down? If can, then how can we create the parameter? and how can i write a MDX to read it?
I have an execution plan that is huge, the pdf it generates if I print it is over 1000 pages. Is there a way to change the graphical plan into a table, so I can sort the %, and find the items that are taking the longest?
I am new to reporting services. We are creating a report with drill-down capability. We have a Date dimension hierarchy defined as Year - Month - Day.
On the report, we expect reporting services send MDX query to SSAS to get the total sales just for the the year, say 2007, when we click the year 2007. Then it send query just to aggregate sales for that month when we click a month.
But when we build the reports, it looks like it always aggregate for all levels. So the performance is bad to first open the report.
I have a report where I am giving the users a parameter so that they can select which field they would like to sort on.The report is also grouping by that field. I have a gruping section, where i have added code to group on the field I want based on this parameter, however I also would like to changing the sorting order but I checked around and I did not find any info.
So here is my example. I am showing sales order info. The user can sort and group by SalesPerson or Customer. Right now, I have code on my dataset to sort by SalesPerson Code and Order No.So far the grouping workds, however the sorting does not.
SSRS 2012 - VS2010...The report compares two years with a sort order on a value that has been engineered based on text switched to int. When sorting A-Z this is the result in the horizontal axis is: 5th, K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th..When sorting Z-A the result in the horizontal axis is:5th, 4th, 3rd, 2nd, 1st, PreK..Z-A is correct but A-Z sorting shows 5th as the start and end. The magnitude of the PreK location is correct but the label is wrong on the A-Z sort order. The sorting is implemented using the Category Group sorting option.
I have three tables: one that holds users, on that holds products, and one that holds votes on products (fields are userid, productid, and the vote they made (1-5)). I am trying to come up with a query that orders the product result set by number of votes both descending and ascending for a particular user. If a user has not voted, then there will not be anything in the vote table for that user. I am not even sure where to begin on this as it is way out of my SQL experience.
This is a normal query I use to just pull them out ordered by name.
SELECT PRODUCTS.PRODUCT_ID, PRODUCTS.P_NAME, USERS.U_USERNAME FROM [PRODUCTS] INNER JOIN [USERS] ON USERS.USER_ID = PRODUCTS.USER_ID WHERE STATUS_ID = 1 ORDER BY PRODUCTS.P_NAME DESC
Can anyone help or point me in the right direction?
Can I roll back certain query(insert/update) execution in one page if query (insert/update) in other page execution fails in asp.net.( I am using sqlserver 2000 as back end) scenario In a webpage1, I have insert query into master table and Page2 I have insert query to store data in sub table. I need to rollback the insert command execution for sub table ,if insert command to master table in web page1 is failed. (Query in webpage2 executes first, then only the query in webpage1) Can I use System. Transaction to solve this? Thanks in advance
Hi,I am attempting to write a complex query to group sets of data. I have myquery working correctly, but i ran into a problem with sorting.I want to sort my query by a string field. Is there a way around sorting using a field other than numeric of a querycontaining a union? Thanks,Karen
I have a SQL script which runs perfectly on my test database, but fails to run on the (identical) production server. After some research, I found out that the field "Remark" (nvartext type of 800 chars) is the cause of the problem. Error message: "The text, ntext, and image data types cannot be compared or sorted, except when using IS NULL or LIKE operator."
Taken this error message into account in the script, I changed it to the following: "CASE WHEN dbo.User_Updates.Remark IS NULL THEN '<no comment>' ELSE (dbo.User_Updates.Remark) END AS Remarks"
This also works on the test server, but still refuses to run on the production server. Does anyone know what I can do to solve this?
I'm using txtParentID as the FK, which matches with txtID, to create the recursion.
This is my current Query
This is my current Query:
Code Snippet WITH tree (data, id, level, pathstr, numSortID, memContent) AS (SELECT txtTitle, txtid, 0, CAST('' AS NVARCHAR(MAX)), numSortID, memContent FROM CTLG WHERE txtParentID IS NULL UNION ALL SELECT txtTitle, V.txtid, t.level + 1, t.pathstr + '>' + V.txtTitle, V.numSortID, v.memContent FROM CTLG V INNER JOIN tree t ON t.id = V.txtParentID) SELECT SPACE(level) + data as data, id, level, pathstr, numSortID, memContent FROM tree
I have a query i have been optimizing. Now runs in about 15 minutes but was wondering if there is any way tr educe the SORT cost.
Currently the high costs left are the Table insert which is 58% and the Sort cost of 36%
The inner query below is around 400million rows and aggregates to around 15,000,000 rows)
SELECT@1 = DateKey FROM dbo.DimDate WHERE TheDate = CAST(DATEADD(WEEK, -1, GETDATE() -1) as DATE) SELECT@2 = DateKey FROM dbo.DimDate WHERE TheDate = CAST(DATEADD(WEEK, -2, GETDATE() -1) as DATE) SELECT@3 = DateKey FROM dbo.DimDate WHERE TheDate = CAST(DATEADD(WEEK, -3, GETDATE() -1) as DATE) SELECT@4 = DateKey FROM dbo.DimDate WHERE TheDate = CAST(DATEADD(WEEK, -4, GETDATE() -1) as DATE) SELECT@5 = DateKey FROM dbo.DimDate WHERE TheDate = CAST(DATEADD(WEEK, -5, GETDATE() -1) as DATE)
I have a database of automobiles. I have many many columns, it is blank of course until I can start filling it with information. I will have four main rows. Yearnum, Make, Model, and VehicleStyle columns I will use Honda Accord as an example. Honda has made the Accord since probably the 80's I know that if I SELECT yearnum FROM YearNum ORDER BY yearnum
I am using C++ Builder too.. it will put all my years in order, in a combo box. But I believe it will also have duplicates, like for example They may have made a 1995 Honda Accord and then made a 1995 Honda accord LS which may have different wiring colors and speakers sizes than the regular accord. Is there anyway to filter out multiple years, so I could just have the regular order of years?
Hi all I'm using Sql server 2000 and sometimes i need to run my Queries in Query analizer before using them in my application just to test them...BUT most of the time when i run a query in query-analizer for second time ,query analizer populates the result (records) more quicker then the first time. Apparently it caches the query !!! i don't know but for some reasons i dont't want this , so how can i prevent Query-analizer from doing so? Thanks in advance. Regards.
SELECT *,isnull(dbo.fn_1(a),'') f_a, isnull(dbo.1(b),'') f_b FROM tablea with(nolock) WHERE ID = 12345 and ID<10000000 and dbo.fn_1(7)='asdfasdf' and Active='Y'
Does it effect performance as i am using a udf here? Also let me know the order in which the conditions will be applied.
I want to know is there any way by which we can come to know which query is going to be executed by the Engine prior to its execution. I think if this is possible then this will affect the performance. But It will be very helpful for me.
I have sql query to search for fields in a rather big view. If I execute the query in sql server enterprise manager, the results will be displayed in less than 6 seconds. However, if I execute it using asp.net, it will take very long (more than 2 minutes).
The query is a simple one like "SELECT * FROM myview WHERE name LIKE '%Microsoft%'". And the code I use to execute it in asp.net is
Dim dsRtn As DataSet Dim objConnection As OleDbConnection Try objConnection = GetOleDbConnection() objConnection.Open() Dim objDataAdapter As New OleDbDataAdapter(strSearch, objConnection) Dim objDataSet As New DataSet() objDataAdapter.Fill(objDataSet, strTableName) dsRtn = objDataSet Catch ex As Exception dsRtn = Nothing Finally If objConnection.State = ConnectionState.Open Then objConnection.Close() End If End Try
Where strSearch is the sql search string.
I don't have any problem using such code for other queries.
Could somebody suggest the cause of the problem and how to solve it? Thanks!
I am having a query where I am connecting to eight different tables using joins. When I join one table to another the speed of the execution becomes less. Even on my local server it is taking nearly 2 to 3 minutes to execute the query. How can I increase the speed of execution of my query.
I wanted to know whether we have an execution plan enabled in SQL 6.5 as we have it in SQL 7.0 and SQL 2000 . I.e when we execute a query and if we enable ' show execution plan 'then it creates a map and shows the vital statistics . If that is available on SQL 6.5 then i am missing that tool .
How can i have it installed on my SQL 6.5 server ??
I have a procedure (used to create a report) and was used in sql 7.0 service pack 3.
Problem is that we are upgrading to SQL 2000 and this procedure now takes 1 minute and 30 seconds to execute vs. 10 seconds previously.
Everything is same between the sql 7 and sql 2000 server. i.e. database size, indexes, hardware etc.
I looked at the query execution plan and it seems to do a sort which is taking majority of the resources on sql 2000 even though there is no sort stmt issued in the procedure itself.
Any help would be appreciated?? I am more curious to find out why this is the case when all the variables are same between the two servers yet sql 2000 performance is much worse than sql 7.0. It should be the other way around!!
I am using a store procedure and in this sp i am having a simple select statement. Now i found that when i executes this sp in query analyzer it takes about 8-10 min to show the output. Table is having thousands of records. I can rebuild indexes on table, but apart from this what else i can do to speed up the query.
I know there is something like we can use indexes explicitly in sql query. Is it true? if yes plz show me how to use it, by giving example
Also is there any other way to run the query much faster.
