Invremental Update In SSIS

Nov 29, 2007

Hello,

Can anybody explain how to make an incremental update of the DWH with SSIS. We have a financial transaction table and we only want to process the new records from our source database to our DWH.

We don't want to read all records but only the records that are new. We have a primary key on the source table so in T-SQL it is no problem to do this, but is there a way to do it in SSIS.

The lookup still reads all records from the source and then decides if the records are updated or not and it is not very fast.

Can anybody give an answer.

Greetings,

Patrick

SSIS Ntext Update

Oct 15, 2006

A sql server 2000 table contains a ntext field that needs to be updated. The update is replacing a particular string in the ntext field. I heard it's hard to do it in sql server 2000 itself. Can it be done easily in an SSIS? Please kindly provide example. Thanks.

Insert And Update With SSIS

Nov 16, 2007

I use SSIS for data's integration with a flat file to a table in sql server 2005.
In the table, i've a primary key [ArtID]. In the flat file, ArtID is duplicate and i've a date that i already sort to have a historic.
I use a script to know if the row must be inserted or be updated.

I use two sql command to insert and update data in server.

I test this in the script
count = select count(*) from table where primary key = value.
If (count = 0) then insert else update.

When i've a duplicate row in flat file i've a error with the primary key. I don't understand why i've it.

Perhaps the SQL Command commit all the row at the end of the flow.

If it's true, can i change the commit each time the line in flat file is readed !! In this case, how can i do that ??
Or i use a OLE Destination to insert with option table or view (no fast) to have a commit all the line of flat file ??

What do thing about it ??

Thanks a lot

Update Table Using SSIS

May 2, 2007

Hi..

I want to update table using SSIS. I figured that there are two ways of it:

1. Use SQL command (but I cant use it as I have millions of rows)

2. Put updated rows in temp table and perform the batch update using Execute SQL task. (If possible, I dont want to use temp table)

Is there any other way?

Thanks

SSIS - Insert & Update Packages

Jun 15, 2008

Hi,

I have written one SSIS script for Initial data load. Then everyday, there will be an incremental insert and/or update; which means there needs to be a separate script for Incremental data load.

Currently, script for initial data load has scripts containing SELECT queries. it just copies the data from source table to the destination. How should I go about putting both initial & incremental scripts together? Is there any way or do I need to build 2 separate packages ?
Thanks :)

SSIS: Check -&&>Update -&&>Insert

Sep 7, 2007

I have two tables from two different Databases

DB1.dbo.Table1 and DB2.dbo.Table2

eX:

Table 1
KEY LName FName Updated
1 GYM ABC Y
1 TIM ABC N
1 PIN ABC N
2 QWE SAD Y
......
....

Table 2
KEY LName FName Updated
1 JIM ABC Y
2 QWE SAM Y

....
....

1) Table 1 and Table 2 are of same structure.
2) In table2, as in above example, few changes have beeen done for KEY1 AND Update =Y, Similarly KEY= 2 AND UPDATED=Y, like for KEY= 1 LName was changed to JIM instead of GYM and for KEY= 2 FName has been changed to SAM instead of SAD.

3) Now I want to do this in SSIS where
a) Its going to process rows of Table2 and check in table1 according to KEY and UPDATE=Y and update the Table1 with Updated = N and Insert that particulra process row of Table2 into Table1

and hence Resultant of Table1 must be like this

Table 1
KEY LName FName Updated
1 GYM ABC N
1 TIM ABC N
1 PIN ABC N
1 JIM ABC Y

2 QWE SAD N
2 QWE SAM Y
......
....

Can somebody help me how to do this in SSIS. Thnaks a lot in advance

SSIS Delete/Insert/Update

Mar 20, 2006

I am still learning SSIS.

What is the best way to do delete/insert/update in a database in SSIS. I am looking to achieve something similar to what was there in a Data Driven Query in SQL Server 2000. I would like to delete/insert/update the destination table based on the condition that my lookuptable returns

For ex

If "the user in my source table has changed the status" Then

Update the user row in the destination table

Else skip the row

If "the user in my source table has delete flag =1 " Then

Delete the user in the destination table

Else skip the row

If "the user in my source table is new(has a new ID) " Then

Insert the user in the destination table

Else skip the row

Any suggestions ....

Cheers

Update SSIS Variables Inside DTS Task ?

Mar 12, 2008

Hi all,

I use a "Exec DTS 2000" task.

I have a variable user::MYVAR in my SSIS package, wich value is "PARENT".

I pass this variable as an outer variable to my dts 2000 package, wich receive it correctly, and then update it to "UPDATED".

After this task finishes, when I come back to SSIS, MYVAR is still at "PARENT".

Is it possible to see the update from the parent package ?

Thanks

.NET Framework Update Breaks Scripts In SSIS

Jul 13, 2007

During SQL Server SP2 timeframe a pending security update from the .NET Framework team was announced. That fix, when released would break any SSIS package using scripts. In response to this SQL Server Integration Services provided a fix into SP2 (as well as corresponding fixes for RTM & SP1) that would mitigate this issue, including log messages that would point to the KB below. The .NET Framework fix was released on Tuesday 7/10/2007 and thus we expect to see it surfacing on SQL Server Integration Services applications using scripts (both in data flow and control flow), most likely on machines running €˜pure€™ RTM and/or 64bit installations.

The related KB article describing the impact to SSIS packages is available here:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931846

Here are the details of the .NET Framework 2.0 fixes:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928365 (for Windows XP/2003/2000)

Update Flat File Before Import SSIS?

Nov 29, 2006

Hi,

We have a csv file which contains a date field. The data in the field contains "0" as well as "dd/mm/yyyy". Is it possible to update all "0" to "01/01/1900" on import using SSIS.

Basically when we import the flat file now it falls over due to the destination table data type being datetime.

If this is not clear please let me know and i'll try and explain more?

Thanks for any help.

All SSIS Packages Failing After Windows Update!

Jul 23, 2007

Starting saturday all of our SSIS packages on a server (64-bit) starting failing (hundreds of them) the error is:

Precompiled script failed to load. Attempting to reload the script with updated data. For more information, see the Microsoft Knowledge Base article, KB931846 (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=81885).

That Knowledgebase link talks about SP2 fixing the issue but we have SP2 already on the server. The sysdtslog90 table is just packed with these as each script inside each package is getting the same error. Looking at the system log the following were installed as part of windows update shortly before the errors started occuring:

- Update for Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition (KB936357)

- Security Update for Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition (KB926122)

- Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0: x64 (KB928416)

- Security Update for Excel 2003 (KB936507)

Iterative Sql Statements / Update Operation Row By Row Using Ssis

Nov 6, 2007

Hi , I am trying to update a main table from its staging table based on certain criteria

like if the checksum doesnot match for the same Business/primary key update that row in the main table .

problem what i am facing is if there are two rows in the staging table with different checksum values the main table's corresponding row gets updated with only the first row from the staging table and ignores the second row in staging , i want the update to be capturing each row. is there a way to do this task repitively in ssis.

iam using execute sql task in ssis

first step to delete all matching checksum records in staging
next update non matching checksum into main table.

i want to repeat these two steps based until condition that count of rows in staging is equal to zero .

is there a way to acheive this please let me know.

for example

staging main table

name age checksum name age checksum
xyz 26 456 xyz 24 876
xyz 28 234

my result should have in main table

xyz 28 234

but instead i am getting xyz 26 456

i want the update statement row by row not set based . please help me with this

SSIS Lookup Transformation To Update Individual Columns

Mar 4, 2008

Hi,
I have an example situation that seems like it should have a super easy solution, but my jobs keep failing.
Here we go. . .

I have a SQL Server 2005 table as my source in a data flow task.
This table contains raw data.
We'll call it FACT_Product_Raw - which contains a field called ProductType varchar(1)
Let's say that ProductType contains values of "A" or "B" or "C" - or for that matter, some null and garbage values

I have a lookup table, LOV_Product_Types
This table contains 3 fields that will transform my raw data table
We'll call these fields ProdTypeID smallint, ProdTypeRaw varchar(1) and ProdType smallint
It contains pairs such that A = 1, B = 2, and so on.

Here's what I want to do.
I want to ADD a field to FACT_Product_Raw that contains the "looked up" value from LOV_Product_Types.
Let's say that I want to add the ProdTypeID field to my _Raw table.

I have used the _Raw table as both my source and destination
It blows up every time.
Help.
Thanks,
David

Integration Services :: SSIS Connection Object Update Failing

Jun 29, 2015

I built a small package two years ago that uses Flat File Sources to copy in small text data files.  Each source connection object has a UNC path to flat text files on another server.  The source system changed, so I opened the package and updated the UNC path in one Connection Manager object, and clicked OK. The Flat File Source Editor that uses this source seemed to be able to see the new location when I clicked "Preview".  Then I went back to the file source, and the connection had reverted back to the original one.  it would not save the new UNC path.

I am using SQL Server 2012 SP2 with SSDT (run as admin).  I closed the package in SSDT, edited the connection strings using XMLnotepad, and was then able to open, test, build and deploy the package.

It seems that the Source object will not let itself be changed.  The other option is to delete it and recreate it, but I didn't want to remap the fields.

Why updating a connection object is not working?

Update SSIS Object Variable Used In Foreach Conainer From Script Task?

Jul 30, 2007

Hello,

I have a SSIS package that has a SQL task which gets a result set and stores it in an SSIS object variable. The package then iterates through that result set in a foreach Loop Container. In the loop container I have a script task and a Send Mail Task. The script task sets the contents of the email message (through an SSIS String variable).
In the dataset I have an EmployeeCode column. I need to select a single EmployeeCode and grab all the records associated with that code to create a single EmailMessage for that Employee that includes all their records. I've got that done, however the way I'm implementing it I then have to update the SSIS Object variable that holds the result set to remove those records I've already processed. Doing this causes an error at the next ForEach loop iteration stating it can't find a source.

Result Set from SQL Query (16 columns, 674 rows, 145 distinct Employeecodes)
Employee Code EmailAddress Other columns
1 email1 set1
1 email1 set2
2 email2 set3
2 emial2 set4
2 email2 set5
etc etc etc

The first iteration should be sent to email1 where the body includes set1 and set2, the second iteration sends to email2 where the body includes set3, set4, and set5 and so forth.

The SSIS ForEachLoop Container is looping through the entire Result Set and passing into the .NET Script task the EmployeeCode (readonly) and the entire Result Set (readwrite) and setting the value of EmailMessage. So I create the value of EmailMessage based on the EmployeeCode and then use the value of Email1 and EmailMessage in the SendMail Task. I was trying to delete the rows I processed so I don€™t process them the next time the ForEachLoop Executes (otherwise I'll get duplicate emails).

Or if there's a different way to do this, I'm open to that as well.

See below for the code I'm using (colEmployeeCode is a ReadOnlyVariable and rsRecipients and EmailMessage are ReadWriteVariables in the Script Task).

Public Sub Main()
Dim Header As String
Dim Body As String
Dim Footer As String
Header = "blah"

Footer = "blah"

Try
Dim olead As New Data.OleDb.OleDbDataAdapter
Dim dt As New Data.DataTable
olead.Fill(dt, Dts.Variables("rsRecipients").Value)

For Each row As Data.DataRow In dt.Rows
If UCase(Trim(row("EmployeeCode").ToString())) = UCase(Trim(Dts.Variables("colEmployeeCode").Value.ToString())) Then
Body = Body + "Label: " + Trim(row("colum").ToString()) + System.Environment.NewLine
row.Delete()
End If
Next
Dts.Variables("rsRecipients").Value = dt
Dts.Variables("EmailMessage").Value = Header + Body + Footer
Dts.TaskResult = Dts.Results.Success
Catch ex As Exception
Dts.TaskResult = Dts.Results.Failure
End Try
End Sub

Thank you very much,

Aaron

SSIS Custom Component Will Only Partially Update In VS Causing Debugging To Fail

May 29, 2006

When I try to debug the break points will always say the source code is different from the current version, but the custom component in the GAC has the new version number. The other strange thing is the toolbox will not reset to the original version meaning it will not remove the custom components. The funny thing is after I compile the custom components and restart VS the custom component runs with the new code changes. I can see the new features I added, but the debugger and toolbox still seem to be broken.

I have tried the following
1) Reset the tool box.
2) uninstall all my custom dll from the GAC €œC:WINDOWSassembly€?
3) remove all my custom dll from €œC:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90DTSPipelineComponents€?
4) restart VS 2005
5) reselect the custom components.
6) reboot my computer.

It seem like VS has another cache. For the tool box or something.

Does anybody have any suggestion?

Integration Services :: How To Update Multiple Single Excel Cells Using SSIS

I am able to place an initial resultset of a query output from the database in a tabular excel template through SSIS but the issue is at the end of that placement in the spreadsheet I am required to place another output below that tabular output in a different format from the initial output which I have shown below.

Update On Machine Runs Immediately, Update On Linked Server Takes 8 Minutes

What's up with this?

This takes like 0 secs to complete:

update xxx_TableName_xxx

where enc_id in

('C24E6640-D2CC-45C6-8C74-74F6466FA262',

'D7FBD152-F7AE-449C-A875-C85B5F6BB462')

but From linked server this takes 8 minutes????!!!??!:

update [xxx_servername_xxxx].xxx_DatabaseName_xxx.dbo.xxx_TableName_xxx
set d_50 = 'DE',modify_timestamp = getdate(),modified_by = 1159

where enc_id in

('C24E6640-D2CC-45C6-8C74-74F6466FA262',

'D7FBD152-F7AE-449C-A875-C85B5F6BB462')

What settings or whatever would cause this to take so much longer from the linked server?

Edit:
Note) Other queries from the linked server do not have this behavior. From the stored procedure where we have examined how long each query/update takes... this particular query is the culprit for the time eating. I thought it was to do specefically with this table. However as stated when a query window is opened directly onto that server the update takes no time at all.

2nd Edit:
Could it be to do with this linked server setting?
Collation Compatible
right now it is set to false? I also asked this question in a message below, but figured I should put it up here.
