View 11 Replies View RelatedQ1: Can I just open these protocols I need (see web links below) and then close them down again after SQLCacheDependency has been enabled? Note: The website (asp.net 2.0/SQL server Express) operates OK right now with asp.net - but it does not have SQLCacheDependency enabled.
Problem: When I try to do this I keep on getting this error message:
"An error has occurred when establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections."
None of these 3 commands have worked (all give the same message above):
aspnet_regsql.exe -U user1 -P pwd1 -S server1/SQLEXPRESS -d myDBName -ed aspnet_regsql.exe -E -S server1/SQLEXPRESS -d myDBName -ed aspnet_regsql.exe -E -S .SqlExpress -d myDBName -ed
I am trying to run these commands via a MSTSC connection. Q2: Is that (terminal server) the problem (the "remote connection") complained of above ?
This is the command that worked on my local dev machine:
aspnet_regsql.exe -E -S .SqlExpress -d myDBName -ed
Q3: Must I really go through the procedure "How to: Configure Express to accept remote connections" at:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;914277http://blogs.msdn.com/sqlexpress/archive/2005/05/05/415084.aspx
I don't really want to have SQL server accepting any connections as the last time it was listening on these ports we had so many attacks being made that it was filling up the logs!
What I can't understand is that every night the database is backed up with the following command line code (operating as a Scheduled Task):
sqlcmd -s server1/SQLEXPRESS -i MW4BAK.SQL -E
Q4: So if the server is happy receiving commands from 'sqlcmd.exe' why does it have such problems with 'aspnet_regsql.exe'
Q5: If I grouped those statements I need to setup SQLCacheDependency under a Scheduled Task would they work (as there would presumably be no remote connection then) or is it something in the nature of the connection established which allows sqlcmd.exe to work but stops aspnet_regsql.exe?
Hi all,
I have a site which used a SQL Express database. On my development machine, it works perfectly. As soon as I move it to the production machine, it doesn't work at all. I am pretty confused by what is going on and I really don't want to install Visual Studio on my production machine just to debug it. I am hoping someone might have an idea what could be happening.
Oh, and I have tried setting Everyone to Full Control on the App_Data directory just to test. Still breaks. Below is my web.config connection string:
<connectionStrings> <add name="database_sqlexpress" connectionString="Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS; AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|MyDatabase.mdf; integrated security=true; user instance=true"/></connectionStrings>
How do you apply Service Pack 1 to Sql Server Express 2005?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a windows forms application that I would like to put in production on several machines. Each machine will contain it's own data and does not need to be networked.
I can use my local connection right now to access the data, but I would like to change my connection so that it will work when installed on a client's machine.
My Current connection string looks like this:
Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename="C:Documents and SettingsMYNAMEMy DocumentsVisual Studio 2005ProjectsInterimApplicationInterimApplicationInterim.mdf";Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True
I believe I could use something like this:
Dim connectionString as string = "Data Source=" & Environment.GetFolderPath(Environment.SpecialFolder.ProgramFiles) & "/InterimApplication/data/Interim.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True"
However, I am not sure. Also, if the client does not install to the default directory, then this may cause the application to not work properly.
Lastly, I am not sure if the client machine needs any additional software on their computer in order for the application to be capable of connecting to the data source.
Any recommendations, ideas, comments, or general help is greatly appreciated.
Do you know of anyone who is running SQL Server Express in a live production web server?
Thanks

I have built the reports that I need using Visual Studio and the SQL 2005 Reporting Server, but now I need a way to view the reports via a web browser.
I am not much of a web/programming expert, so any help that could walk me through the process of publishing the .rdl files that I have created via a web browser would be much, much appreciated. Again, I am a novice in the the web arena, so the more straight forward the steps the better.
Thanks!
How easy it is to deploy a solution that uses SQL Express on Development, but a MS SQL database on the production server (host)I am using the membership provider of ASP.net 2.0 Many thanks.

I've built a web app using VWDEE. I created my express database in the
app_data directory using VWDEE and everything worked really well.
Then I copied the site into my production directory (same computer) and
setup the site under IIS. Now I cannot connect to the database.
How is one supposed to access a express database created then moved in this way?
Thanks,
I am new to SQL Server 2005. I have tried to be a good student and learn on my own about designing the database. However, I am facing a blockage of getting data into the database. I want to verify I have setup the relationships correctly. Here is the tables.
1. A Manufacture has an Address.
2. A Manufacturer has one or more Distribution Points.
3. A Distribution Point has an Address.
The Manufacturer --> Address is a one-to-one relationship.
The Distribution Point --> Address is a one-to-one relationship.
The Manufacturer --> Distribution Point is a one-to-many relationship.
The manufacturer table has a FK to the address id (PK).
The distribution table has a FK to the address id (PK).
The distribution table has a FK to the Manufacturer id (PK).
Address has several other FK, but not used in this scenario.
The INSERT and UPDATE Specification for the Delete Rule and Update Rule is set to "No Action" for the Manufacturer and Address tables. In the Distribution Point table, the relationship for the update rule involving the relationship with the Address and Manufacturer tables is set to CASCADE. What this tells me is SQL Server 2005 will update the table should changes occur in Address and Manufacturer table.
Is there anything else I can check to be sure the issue I am facing is NOT the deisgn of the database?
Thanks for taking the time to read my post.

I have a Access database which has a address field with multiple data sets in it. I am new to writing code and am having trouble finding a example which will help me split these values out into three seperate fields.
Notice how there is no good order in how they are placed.... Some entry's have commas and some don't. Some have periods and some don't.
EX:
[BILL_ADDR3]
AMHERST, WI. 54406
ASHLAND, WI 54806
ASKOV MN 55704
I then need to convert the state to a state code ie:
2 AK
3 AL
4 AR
5 CA
6 CO
7 CT
8 DC
9 DE
10 FL
11 GA
12 HI
13 IA
14 ID
15 IL
16 IN
17 KS
18 KY
Any good sources of information would be greatly appreciated..... Thank You
It's funny:
Everyone thinks that CSVs are awesome to transport data. I mean after all, SSIS defaults to Comma Delimited files. Even Excel defaults to it. Microsoft is supposed to be our leader! They should get this right. And get the terminology correct too. How many people describe the file as comma separated? It's delimited! Even SQL server calls it delimited by the "delimited" drop down.
CSVs suck and i will tell you why:
When you transport any text field (especially Address) it has the possibility of containing a comma. This causes data to be parsed into the wrong fields. Why in God's grace would you EVER get in the habit of choosing a delimiter that SOMETIMES doesn't work?
I'll tell you a little short story:
I have been waiting (at work) for like a month for a guy to export data and give me this file. Well today i finally got that file. He was in a hurry and used the Defaults to export this file. I don't blame him for being in a hurry and using the defaults. Well the defaults made the import NOT work because the data parsed into the wrong columns. Comma delimited would work if there was a text qualifier. But the default is comma delimited and NO text qualifier. What idiot thought that would be good. Or it was the separation of duties that eff'd this one up? Who knows?
Fix your products!

I am working on an application with a number of tables (which I can't
change) that have data of the form a1, b1, c1... a2, b2, c2...a3, b3,
c3... The tables contain 5 to 10 sets of data in each row.
I want to create a stored procedure to return a cursor with a row for
each set of data for a row of the table. I know I can use unions:
select a1 as a, b1 as b , c1 as c... from sometable where pk=@pk
union
select a2, b2, c2... from sometable where pk=@pk
union
select a3...
Is there a way that is more efficient (eliminates requerying the table and all the unions)?
I've registered with GoDaddy for my site. I've used Visual Web Dev 2005 with SQL Server Mgmt Express 2005 to create my database etc. Now with GoDaddy, I need to "recreate" the database on their server again, but I don't want to go throug the whole process again. I just want to use their query editor to generate the database online.GoDaddy mentions a "personal-sql" file that SQL Server 2000 generates, but I can't find anything like that with what I have. Thanks.
View 1 Replies View RelatedHi folks, I'm trying to collapse a column on a report that's designed in table mode. I was trying to mimick what happens in a matrix where you have a column that has a '+' in it that makes toggles the visibility of a column to its immediate right (The reason I'm not using Matrix mode is I continually get "out of memory" errors on the report I'm generating.).
When I select the column and mark visible to 'false' in the properties, it of course asks me for a TextBox. My problem is that I am unable to find a scenario where the textbox is "in the proper group". Is this something that's supported, and if so, I'd appreciate some pointers to lead me in the right direction.
Thanks.
Hi everyone. I am having difficulties with a cursor that I am trying to write. The purpose of the cursor is to loop through all tables in a selected Database and revoke "Select" access to that table for the indicated role (RoleToRevoke). I am getting the error on the @name variable within the REVOKE statement. I have placed a comment indicating where I am getting the error. Is there a way to have sql server interpret this @name variable within the REVOKE statement? Thanks for your help.

In Past, I created DTS package on 2000 version, that import TXT file into SQL 2000 table.
Now I migrated the DTS to DTSX (SSIS) package, and all is working fine. but I can not find how can I edit or modify the target table name in DTSX(SSIS) package in BI Studio.

I have this simple full text search query that works perfectly on my own computer using sql server 2005 express, however, on the production server(shared hosting)when I added the first 50+ rows, the full text search works perfect, but as the number of rows increases, the full text search can only see the first50+ rows, but not the new ones. Is there any quick solution for this or it's just a common mistake for developers for not properly indexed columns? Is there a way to re-indexed all rows without loosing data on the live server? search query: SELECT TOP 50 *FROM li_BookmarksWHERE FREETEXT(Keywords,@Keywords)

View 3 Replies View RelatedAny help would be greatly appreciated. My problem is that I need to set up a backup SQL Server 2000 machinewhich can be used in case of a failure to my primary. All databases(30 as of now) must be an up to the minute exact copy of productionand include most recent changes in data as well as any structurechanges (Tables, Views, SP's, Triggers, Users . . etc). When I tried this using Transactional Replication, the replicationprocess gets fouled up once I introduce any kind of structure changesto the DB. I've considered the idea of doing periodic backups andrestoring it to my backup SQL server, but this does not give me theconcurrency needed with 0 latency.I've seen articles that recommend using Transaction Replication with'Scheduled Table Refresh', and also doing database dumps to restore onthe backup machine, but I have not been able to find any documentationregarding this to try out. How can I implement this type of backupstrategy in SQL 2000?

I would like to deploy several reports to production server, Do i need to install reporting services entire software in order to run the reports or is it possible to just have runtime files installed on it to run the reports.
please help, i have almost 100 reports to be deployed on this server which is located in other country.
Thanks for the helpful information.
(i am using SQL server 2005 / reporting services 2005.)
ok ok, stop laughing. for real, is there any programatic way of doing this? whom ever created this database i inherited (SQL 2000) created the LDF and DATA files on the same drive and in the same folder for that matter. just trying to do a little disaster magament.

This feels like a silly question, but I`m going to ask it anyway...
I have limited SQL Server experience, but have run into a wall with a client`s Web/Access combination. I need to upgrade to SQL Server. I have Beta3 installed on a development box and am very happy with it. Is anyone running this thing in a production environment? This isn`t going to be experience huge loads, so I`m tempted. Tell me if I`m crazy for wanting to try it.
I have a brand new database server with system databases.
I need to copy like four production database from another server to this new server. Can i do restore of the last production backups and restore them on the new server without creating the empty databases on the new server. If any one has better approach i will appreciate
1.First issue
The port number already allocated was 2059. We have changed that into the default port 1433 in the node. Now we are able to connect the node from the client application. But we are not able to see the configuration manager in any of the environment now.
2. 2nd issue
Cluster Environment
Error while executing the Package The connection details are not loaded in the connection manager tag
The same error with advanced information.

I have production server 2000. The server gets disconnected sometime by itself and sometime it is working fine.Sometimes it even doesn't get restarted. Is there any problem with service packs and some performance issues.
Can you SQL guru give me best suggestion and how should i proceed.
Hi,I ran test data on my development machine and it took 1 minute toinsert the data. Ran the same set of data on the server and took 5minutes.Check both database and everything is the same. I even copied theproduction DB on my machine and it was taking still about 1 minute.Look at the fragmentation, and all the numbers are better on the serverthan my development machine so it should be faster. In the application I put some timer and discover that the insert istaking 0.015 ms on the server and 0 on the development. So the problemis on the insert. It is a Web application using ASP.NET.Here are the spec of the computers:Development: P4 HT 3.2GHz 1gig memory running WIN XPServer: Xeon 2.8GHz 1.5Gig memory running WIN 2000 serverAny idea how I to pinpoint the problem? I'm not at the point ofthinking that it can be the hardware, but how to verify that?ThanksFrank

Like most enterprise there is the database administrator (dba) and there are the developers(dev). The dba are conservative while the developers are also exploring their options.
One of the current usage I'm experimenting on is to provide data visualization - image for the data. Like most I needed to "create" the System.Drawing assembly in the database, marking it unsafe.
During my testing, my code had some exception and that brought down SQL Server.
I read that the CLR is better compare to the sp_OAs as well as the extended stored procedures written in C++ because it isolates the execution in a separate app domain and termination is clean - in case of any errors, it should not bring down SQL Server.
Also I read marking assembly unsafe void these benefits of isolation.
Instead of having to manage the situation where it involves code review by the dba and asking the dba to take some risk, is there a technique where all CLR code that runs in the production server does not pose stability issues.
