Is it Possible adding Windows (activi directry users) from SQL Server which is running Windows authotication.?
Hi
I am using SQL Srv 2005, Windows Server 2003 std version
I have always used to connect via the SA account to SQl Server but now I need to connect via Windows "Authotication": I have tryed 1000 different connections strings and I have used the method creating a .udf file for getting the connection string but I cant get access to SQl Server... I think some of my connection strings must be right, but what else is neccesary to do?
Do I have to change some settings in the IIS?
Do I have to change some settings in some *.config file?
Is there any other rights I have to change?
Thx!!
Best Regards
Staffan
Hi,
On the page http://www.microsoft.com/sql/editions/compact/default.mspx it is recomended that you dont use SQL Server Compact Edition if "you want to run as a service" - is this refering to the host application or to the fact the SQL Server Compact Edition is an embedded database rather than the more traditional SQL Server client/server architecture?
If its the former is this likely to change at any point in the future? Also what sort of problems are likely to occur if we did run it from within a windows service?
Many thanks,
- James

Hallo there,
I just upgraded from Windows XP Pro to Windows Vista Bussiness and tried to reinstall SQL Server 2005 Developers Edition. After the installation i downloaded (using microsoft windows update) and installed all the service packs for sql and vista available.
My problem is when i open sql server management studio and try to connect to my default instance using windows authentication and database engine, an 18456 error occurs.
I enabled all the protocols and all the ports
I disabled windows firewall and antivirus (eset nod32)
I installed all service packs available
I have also installed Visual Studio 2005 without installing sqlexpress
But nothing happens!
Please i am very desperate, any information will be gratefully accepted.
This is my installation Information

Hey
Ive read on some pages that it is in fact possible to install and run SQL Server 2000 on Vista. In my university, SQL Server 2000 is still used to teach us about databases and how to administrate them. The computers run Windows 2000 Professional. I need to be able to use 2000 so I can not only have compatibility but also know the steps and all possible conditions and solutions to problems.
Would installing and running SQL Server 2000 on Vista be possible or am I better off using 2005? Is there much difference between these 2 versions?
I have a test server running both 2000 and 2005 Reporting Services. Each day I have to restart the Report Server Windows service for the 2005 Report Server. This is the error I get when I try to access the Report Manager
The Report Server Windows service 'ReportServer$TSQL4' is not running. The service must be running to use Report Server. (rsReportServerServiceUnavailable) Get Online Help
After I start the Report Server Windows service using the Report Services Configuration tool I can access the 2005 Report Manager without errors. The windows service start up type is set to automatic.
I can not find why the 2005 version keeps going down.
Is this supported on Windows 2003 sp2 and does anyone know how to do a silent install of this using Altiris?
Thanks!
Does any one come across any difficulty in the following migration?
OS: Wondows Server 2K
DB: SQL Server 2K Standard Edition
Migrating to
OS: Wondows Server 2K3
DB: SQL Server 2K Standard Edition
Thank you,
Gish
We are running SQL 7 on a Windows NT Server. If you copy a 25Mb filefrom this machine to a W2K server, the file copy takes over 5 minuteson a 100Mpbs switched network.Copying the same file to another NT server takes only seconds, andcopying the same file to the W2K server from the 2nd NT server, (whichis not running SQL) takes only seconds also.Has anyone any ideas as to why file copying between this machine and aW2K one will take so long. It is repliacted on 5 further w2K machines.

This is a fresh install of SQL Server 2005 (64bit) on a Windows 2003 R2 SP2 64bit OS. The Cluster has been built and SQL 2005 has been installed (Database Engine(clustered), Analysis Server(clustered), Notification Server, Integration Server, Reporting Services). SQL 2005 SP2 has been installed.
Now, I want to install Notification Server, Integration Server and Reporting Services on the second node for high availability.
When I select 'Install New Components' from Add/Remove Programs, the System Configuation Checker tells me theres a version difference and to:
To change an existing instance of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 to a different edition of SQL Server 2005, you must run SQL Server 2005 Setup from the command prompt and include the SKUUPGRADE=1 parameter.
I'm using the same binaries as the original install. Could this be a result of installing SQL 2005 SP2?
Can someone help me out with this. I'd prefer using the setup interface instead of a command line script.
Where can I further educate myself on this subject?
Right off from the start I would assume that installing SQL Server 2000 or 2005 on Windows Server 2003 that is set up as a web server hosting a website would be against "best practices." Is my assumption right?
Common sense tells me to not to host a website on a pc that is also hosting my database.
I want to map users/groups of a .NET application which uses MS SQL Server to Windows users/groups. Then grant pemission to the Windows users/groups to access the MS SQL Server.
If possible, I want to list Windows Users and Groups regardless of whether Active Directory is used or not.
When running SQL Server Express on a Windows XP Pro OS, is there a limit to the number of concurrent users or connections to the database?
View 3 Replies View Related I'm looking to migrate a number of sql users to windows authentication, so I want a list of each login and for each login a list of all their roles. My plan is to write 2 WHILE loops that will go through each login and for each login the list of roles. The first Row_Number is not returning the order that I want, I was expecting results like this:
1 Aaron ...... 1 db_reader
1 Aaron ...... 2 db_writer
2 Ben ....... 1 db_reader
The first row_number used doesn't seem to use the partition. The second seems to work fine.I know I can break this up into 2 queries but I want to understand where this is going wrong.
Code used:
SELECT
ROW_NUMBER() OVER(PARTITION BY sp.Name ORDER BY sp.name asc) as UserRowNo
, convert(char(45),sp.name) as srvLogin
, 'WIN' + convert(char(45),sp.name) AS WinLogin

The Report Server Windows service 'ReportServer$RCREPORTSERVER' is not running. The service must be running to use Report Server. (rsReportServerServiceUnavailable
I get this error when i tried to access report manager today. What causes this to happen? because this is the second time in 6 months this has happened. The first time , i restarted the server, should i go that route again? Or is there something else i should be doing.
I have been using the software, and it has been working fine (on windows user A). Now, I have created another windows user (User B), and would like to use the same software/database. The software launches fine (User B), but cannot access the created SQL database (created with user A)
How do I setup the database to allow access from all users on the same PC?
Is
there a way to find a list of Windows User accounts that are directly
or indirectly (through Windows Group membership) assigned to a database
role?
I could put work in to CLR programming or using a Linked Server to
Active Directory, but if there is a sys.* view available that can
provide me this
information directly it would be much easier.
I'll be looking into this further myself anyway and posting an answer
if I can find one, but if anyone has suggestions... well, thanks!
Hi,
I have a small Vb project( it is triggers Crystal report to run) which should be scheduled with SQL 7.0.
Project itself runs without any problem.
When I schedule a job to run that Myproject.exe with WIN95 Or create a DTS package and execute it on WINNT it also works fine.
But when I am trying to schedule that package OR create a separate job on WINNT to run Myproject.exe- nothing happen(it run 47 hours since yeasterday-nothing happen) Also under Job/Edit/Step1/Command I am using the following command
either: Myproject.exe OR cmd /c "D:VB98f100estvbCrystalMyproject.exe"
Any ideas,

I've got a report that shows the current status of sql activity on my servers for our ERP application. The one thing I've been wanting to do is to add the ability to check if a certain windows service on another server is running. Is this possible in Reporting Services 2005?
Thanks,
Ian
I am attempting to write a Windows service that watches a database for uploaded files to import. When a new file is found, the corresponding SSIS package is run from the file system with variables passed through. I started development as a Windows app and copied the functionality to a service.
The app runs fine. The service does not. I get a "Failure" each time a package is executed. Everything is identical behind the scenes with the obvious exceptions that OnStart and OnStop handlers are buttons in the app. I added a script task at the beginning of one of the SSIS packages to notify me that it is even running at all. It doesn't even hit that initial task.
Again, the app will run all packages just fine. The data is imported and the results return as "Success."
The following is the code executing the package. Any help is appreciated. I've been banging my head on this one for a few days now. (Is there a tag to format a code sample?)
Dim pkgLocation As String
Dim pkg As New Package
Dim app As New Application
Dim pkgResults As DTSExecResult
pkgLocation = sPackageFolder & PackageName & ".dtsx"
pkg = app.LoadPackage(pkgLocation, Nothing)
Dim vars As Variables = pkg.Variables
vars("ImportId").Value = ImportId
vars("ProductionServer").Value = ProductionServer
vars("ProductionDatabase").Value = ProductionDatabase
vars("SourceFileName").Value = FileName
vars("SourceFilePath").Value = FilePath
pkgResults = pkg.Execute()
Long story short -
Have two C# applications - one WinForms desktop app, the other a WinForms smart device app. Both use SQL Server Compact CE 3.5 to store data locally. Both work just fine.
Now the desktop app needs to open and update the .SDF file that is stored on the Windows Mobile device. (Device will be docked via USB.)
What format would the path to the .SDF look like that the WinForms application would need to specify in order to open it?
Thanks for reading.
Can SQL 2000 32 bit run on a Windows 2003 64-bit Intel OS installation? What about the SQL 2000 64 bit version? Is the Enterprise Edition required for this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been running Windows 2003 64bit and SQL2000 SP4 for over 2 months with out any issues.
Sadly we had a server crash "NTldr missing or corrupted"
now when the one engineer looked at it he suggested to reload the server with Windows 2003 32 bit version as there were known compatibility problems between 2003 64bit and SQL 2000 32bit but that you can install SQL 2000 32bit onto a Windows 2003 64 bit server.
Now i dont really believe this statement nor can i find any documentation supporting this. I believe this server might have crashed due to a new patch that was released the last 2 or 3 week either on Windows or SQL. Does anyone know where i can verify what patches was released?
Maybe someone else can share their thoughts with me.

For this I have a method which will take the service name as argument and returns whether that servce is found or not. Now I want to know which windows service (service name) will be running on my machine if the MSDE is already installed. Please help me out.
Hi all,I have a Windows 2003 server, which is also a terminal server forapplication, with sql 2000 installed. My company has developed anapplication that uses SQL 2000 as its database. The application is aclient/server one. In each client computer there's a link to theapplication on the server. There is no problem with Windows 98,Windows 2000 pro, Windows xp pro clients, but the windows 95 onescannot log in to the database. The log of the application shows thefollowing error:connection error -2147467259. Cannot open database requested in login'database name'. Login fails.Till a week ago the application was running on a Windows 2000 serverwith SQL 2000 install and the W95 clients had no problem connecting tothe database, so my guess is the error has something to do withWindows 2003 server, but what'causing the error?I tried to install a newer version of MDAC (MDAC 2.5, the last versionof MDAC you can install on W95)but with no success. By the way W95clients have no problem accessing shared folder on the Windows 2003server.Any idea?ThanksMarino

In SQL Server 2008, adding a Windows Login did not permit access to end user databases until the Windows Login was mapped to various databases. View 6 Replies View RelatedWe install SQL Express 2005 with a custom named instance. Since a named instance uses dynamic ports, how can I add this named instance to the Windows Firewall exception list? Previously with MSDE 2000 we installed as default, then I added port 1433 to the Firewall exception list.
Is there a way to install SQL Express to a static port (programmatically)? Or, is there a better method, like adding the SQL custom named instance service to the firewall exception list?
I have an SDF using SQLCE 2.0. When I run the app on a Pocket PC device running Windows Mobile 5.0 I get 0x80004005 and 0x80040e21 errors. The same app executes fine on PPC 2003.
The app is written in VC++ using and uses the SQLCE OLEDB Provider to access the SDF. It is complied with eVC 4.0
Any idea as to the problem?
I am new to the world of ETL. I recently started using SSIS and I have come across couple of questions on this.
1.Can we run a SSIS Package using windows task scheduler?
2. If the above answer is yes,I don't have the SSMS installed on my machine. Can a SSIS package run in the absence of SSMS?(I do have Visual studio and SQL server data tools installed)
3. Can a SSIS Package run in the absence of Visual studio and SQL Server Data Tools.Say for example, I create a SSIS package and then remove Visual studio and SQL server data tools from my machine. Will the Task scheduler still be able to run the SSIS package?
4. Does the SSMS free edition comes along with SQL server Agent?
How can I Port Driver and OAL code of Windows CE 5.0 to Windows CE 4.2?
If anybody have idea about this, kindly give me suggestions.

Will it be possible to do an in-place upgrade from SQL 2000 Server Enterprise SP4 32 bit running on top of 64 bit Windows 2003 Enterprise , clustered, to SQL 2005 Enterprise 64 bit?
The 32 bit SQL 2000 to 64 bit SQL 2005 in place upgrade seems questionable to me...
Anybody tried anything like this?
We have an existing SSRS server, and have just created a new child domain. We'll be migrating users from the parent to the child, and want to add the users of that new domain with access to SSRS. In the parent domain they are able to access, but after migration with the child domain account, they cannot.
I have added the group CHILDDomain Users with a system user role on SSRS, and PARENTDomain Users was already there.
Is there any additional step I should/could take to get this active?
