Is It Neccesary To Restart Sql Server Engine After Modifying A Noise Word List?
Sep 26, 2007
Hello all,
We are using sql server 2005 for full text searching.
I removed some of the words in the noise word file (noiseENU.txt) and rebuilt the catalog. However i find that the changes made to the noise file do not reflect immediately. I had to restart sql server engine before my queries returned results according to the updated noise list. Is there a workaround for this ( wherein there isnt the neccesity of restarting sql server engine....this is becoming a problem on live environments as i cannot restart the server when needed)?
I have a requirement where I need to find the list of noise words from a set of words in a SP.
PS: Too common words are said to be noise words and SQL maintains list of noise words on its own.
Say I have a sentence like "I am a software engineer”. Here I need to get the list of noise words (I, am, a).I have written a logic where I will split the sentence into words and process word by word. I will first take one word and I have a select statement which will throw SQL noise word error exception if it is noise word.
Logic is 1. Take a word from the sentence. 2. Write a select statement like "select * from job where contains (jobdescription,' extracted word')" 3. If the word is noise word then SQL will throw a noise word exception. 4. I try to capture this error and based on that I have some logic. 5. If noise error thrown (I am using @@error) do this; do this; else do this; do this; 6. Now my problem is, when the SQL throws noise exception, the execution of the SP stops immediately and the rest of the logic is not executed. 7. But some how I need to capture the exception and continue with the program flow.
I have different logic where I can achieve my requirements. (Instead of capturing SQL exception, maintain the noise words in a table and check with the table). but my question is there any way where I can capture the SQL exception and continue the program flow?
we had activity last night we need to truncate Transactional Logs we pressed Restart button to initiate service , but it stopped successfully and failed to start the SQL Server service. We did not find anything find anything unusual in log file. Please confirm are we facing any bug or needing any fixes to installed on the server.Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard Service Pack 1Â ( 64bit)
I have a clean SQL 2005 Ent. x64 SP1 clean with no user db's.....applied SP2 and everything showed "Success" except the Database Services (Error 29534)......

Hi, I would like to introduce stop word list in my search engine tool (web page). Could anyone please provide me the steps required for implementing this? This is basically to filter the stop words used for searching in my search page. The technologies used are ASP .NET 2.0 using VB .NET, VS .NET 2005 and SQL Server 2000 as the backend.(Note: I have already got the stop word list with me). Thanks.
I am trying to use the SQL "Contains" method and full text indexing for some search functionality in an application.
I understand that full text indexes will break data using certain word breakers which are dependent on which language the index is created with. However, I cannot seem to find a list of the what the actual word breakers are. I cannot find these online or in Books Online ... please can you let me know where I can find out more about this?
In SQL Server, is there a way to list all the data pages, index pages, IAM pages, etc. for a given user table? Like this: Â Data pages: (1, 200), (1, 201) Index pages: (1, 202) Â Or if that is impossible, then is it possible to list only the data pages for a table?
How do I get the difference between DatabaseProperty() function and DatabasePropertyEx() Functions and how to get list of parameter that uses DatabaseProeprty() and DatabasePropertyEx() Functions. As in sql 2012 both gives red wavy line when I try to use in query analyser.
Is there any windows command or any tool which would tell me what all 3rd party s/w's or Filtered drivers on my server (like antivirus, monitoring tools like Diskeeper or any I/O throttling s/w etc..)
Any sql script or powershell script which outputs late running jobs? Currently I am using the below script to find out currently running jobs along with duration. But my requirement is to add few more columns to the query which indicates whether jobs is running fine or running behind expected time.
-currently using query to pull running jobs SELECT    ja.job_id,    j.name AS job_name,    ja.start_execution_date,        ISNULL(last_executed_step_id,0)+1 AS currently_executing_step_id,    [code]...
Hope you can ignore your personal music tastes with this post!I have a table of Artists with a Full Text Index on a few columns on that table. My full text querying against this table works really well apart from it seems for one band - "Take That"! I'm guessing this is because these words consitute noise words? I parse user's search terms and add an "AND" between each word. So for example my query is essentially:select * from containstable(Artists, *, '"take AND that"') As I say, this works fine for Pink Floyd etc, but not for these guys! So either SQL Server has a preference on boy bands or I am thinking it is because these words are deemed to be noise. Anybody got any tips on how I could tackle this? I suppose it is quite possible that there might be another band with the same problem.I do have exclusive access to the SQL box, so perhaps I could edit the noise words file......Thanks
Hi, I am developing a database search using full-text search functionality of SQL server 2005.For the same I wish to permit some noise words in my search. Can someone guide me how to allow including these noise words in search by editing noise file or by some other means.
To ignore the noise words in the query microsoft remommends to execute the following statements, by which we can take advantage of the new transformation of noise words in CONTAINS queries:
EXEC sp_configure 'show advanced options', 1 GO RECONFIGURE GO EXEC sp_configure 'transform noise words', 1 GO RECONFIGURE GO But this never works. Can any one please suggest how to make this work.(without modifying the full text text file)
Has anyone ever experienced the SQL Server unexpectedly rebooting?
Yesterday my SQL Server 7 installation rebooted itself and the error log seemed fine as did the restart. The only evidence I can find was a message in the event viewer's application log stating the the MSSQLServer service terminated unexpectedly. Any ideas are appreciated.
I've a SQL server that intermittently restarts itself mostly during. Its a SQL Server 6.5 SP4 running NT 4.0 SP6. It really has no rhyme or reason to it happening. The are no indications in either the SQL or the Nt events logs. Has anyone heard of this?
I have a linked server set up to a proprietarty temporal DB through an OLEDB provider. From time to time and for various reasons the OLEDB provider crashes with "Error 7302 Could not create an instance of OLE DB Provider 'IhOLEDBProvider.iHistorian.1'. OLE DB Trace [Non Interface Error: CoCreate of DSO for IhOLEDBProvider.iHistorian.1 returned 0x80070008"
Up till now, to re-initilize the connection we have just restarted the SQL Server service. However, some automated processes are now feeding data into this server and more users and have started coming online so restarting for this issue has become a big deal.
Getting the OLEDB provider sorted out isn't an option at present so my question is:
Is there a way to re-initalise a failed linked server other that restarting the SQL Service?
I have SQL server running on windows Adv Server 2000. Since last couple days whole computer restart every one hours. Only thing I remember doing was to shrink database db size is 200+GB.
I've got a table with a column that contains the status of available licenses to the user, i.e. they are either in use or are available. If the server goes down, then when it is restarted I need to make sure all the rows in this column describe each license as being available.
So the question is how can I ensure data in a table is, if you like, initialized, each time the server is restarted? Is there a system defined stored proc or trigger than is executed when a server is restarted?
i hv a database (sql server 2000) where i got locking on many tables and my application was down.
I restarted the sql server and the application was fine but after five minutes the same locking issue started happening. I did a index rebuild the next time on all indexes and everything was fine. But i cannot relate how locking occured and why it was not after index rebuild. Can anyone shed some light on this or anyone had similar experience... cos i cannot figure out a way on this.
I've used ClickOne to package my desktop database application (Developed using VB 2005 Express and SQLServer 2005 Express) then installed it on another PC. Is there a way that I could modify the installed database just like I could if I used MS Access?
hi! I'm just wondering does anyone know how to create an sql command that can search word by word? what i mean is like I have a product with name 'harry potter broom'. I want an sql command where if i type only 'harry broom' this 'harry potter broom' product will show up. Does anyone have any idea? Here's my sql comand: (I'm using asp.net vb script do develop this system) ------------------------------------------------------------------------- query = "select distinct * from product where " & _ "(pname like '%" & keyword & "%' or " & _ "pdesc like '%" & keyword & "%' ) and " & _ "(price >= " & price1 & " and price <= " & price2 & _ ") and status <> 'out of stock' order by price asc" ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thank you.
I setup Sql agent for autostart with sql server and autorestart if stoped but after rebooting NT or after stoping SQL server it never starts ,I have to start it manualy
I have an old application to maintain that uses CDatabase to connect to SQL Server. If SQL Server is stopped and restarted, such as in a cluster failover (i.e. move group), then the CDatabase connection needs to reconnect. It seems that it's not capable of doing this on it's own so I need to check the state some how. Various methods, such as IsOpen, seem to be useless as far as determining if I have a "good" connection.
