In an "Windows Forms" project using VisualBasic 2005, I need to modify a parameter value in a report (.rdlc).
In this report, called "RapportDeVente.rdlc", I have defined a parameter "rptPar_ProsID" as integer.
I have included an control "ReportViewer" in a form called "Impression.vb".
In another form used to select the report's parameters, I want to modify a parameter's value from a TextBox "txbProsID". I write this code :
...
Imports Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms
...
Dim frmRapportDeVenteViewer As New Impression
...
frmRapportDeVenteViewer.ReportViewer.LocalReport.ReportEmbeddedResource = "winMATcom.RapportDeVente.rdlc"
Dim rds As New ReportDataSource("ProspectsDataSet_Prospects", Me.ProspectsDataSet.Prospects())
frmRapportDeVenteViewer.ReportViewer.LocalReport.DataSources.Add(rds)
Dim p As New ReportParameter("rptPar_ProsID", txbProsID.Text())
frmRapportDeVenteViewer.ReportViewer.LocalReport.SetParameters(p)
...
I obtain this Warning about var "p ":
"Warning 1 Implicit cast of 'Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms.ReportParameter' as 'System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable(Of Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms.ReportParameter)'."
When I read the documentation it seems correct !?...
What is my error, How correct it ?
Best regards.

Hello:
How do I go about bringing a report down from the report server to modify it? What kind of security access will I need? The report is in production and it was created by someone who recently left the company.
Thanks in advance for your assistenance.
I have a report that is embedded in a .net 2.0 web form. It works. I would like to be able to modify some of the elements in the report as the web form loads. I have tried the following code that did NOT work:
Dim myImage1 As New Image
myImage1 = Me.ReportViewer1.FindControl("Image1")
myImage1.ImageUrl = "Images/small_info_logo.jpg"
Does anyone know of a site that has some godo examples and object models on how to do this?
Thanks
Chuck
Hi
I would like to be able to modify the basic report template offered by Report Builder , so as to be able to include custom fields that I would like to be present in every report (Company name , Logo , Date , etc) to achieve consistency in the presentation of the reports created with Report Builder
In Bob's Blog he explained how to include RDL expressions in Report Builder
http://blogs.msdn.com/bobmeyers/archive/2006/03/26/561147.aspx
What I would like to do is to use that technique (if possible) to modify the original template or templates offered by Report Builder to include my own fields.
============================================
I will appreciate some comments or suggestions about other approaches that can be used to address the issue mentioned in the first paragraph .
Thanks in advance ,
George

HOW TO GET A FILE'S CREATE DATE??
From SqlServer I need the create date of a file on C or D.
Is there a function or code to retrieve the create date,
or an API that could read and pass back the file's creation date???
Hello, I have gone to work for a new company and I have seen this company is running out of drive space on a daily basis. The DBA before me created huge databases. For example we have a database that it's created size is 103 GB. Only about 52 GB is ever needed. I know you can resize the tempdb but how about user databases? I have never tried this. Can this be done for a user database?
For tempdb
Start SQL from cmd line sqlserver -c -f -s%instance_name%
alter databse tempdb modify file
(name='tempdev',size=150)
We are running into the following error while changing a column data type from nvarchar (1200) to varchar(8000)
"Msg 1105, Level 17, State 2, Line 1
Could not allocate space for object 'dbo.TBL1 '.'PK_CL_ID' in database 'Client01' because the 'PRIMARY' filegroup is full. Create disk space by deleting unneeded files, dropping objects in the filegroup, adding additional files to the filegroup, or setting autogrowth on for existing files in the filegroup.
The statement has been terminated."
Now tried to change the filegrowth of the log file to unlimited
ALTER DATABASE Client01
MODIFY FILE ( NAME = Client01_log, MAXSIZE = unlimited);
The query executes without error but I do not see the auto growth as unrestricted. It's still 2GB
I can run this command to make changes for 1 DB USE [master]
GO
ALTER DATABASE [DBName] MODIFY FILE ( NAME = N'Name_log', FILEGROWTH = 10000KB )
GO
Is it possible to create a script which changes log file size to let's say 100MB for all DBs in all servers instead of running the above command by logging into each server? We have about 200 servers and close to 3000 DBs.
Does anybody know how to create/modify a file without using one of the system stored procedures?
Thanks
Is there a way to modify the RSReportServer.config file with a Web Service call. We want to install an app and have it modify the Renders. We want to remove the Tiff export for example. We also want to add simple headers to Excel. Right now we have to open the file and then make our edits.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a report which queries events occurring during the reporting time frame the user selects.
A user selects arrivalDateStart as 8/1/2015 and arrivalDateEnd as 12/31/2015 and the results are returned.
The issue is that there is an event that began 7/31/2015 and ends 8/2/2015. This does not appear on the report. The user does not want to have to pick an earlier arrival date as the parameter of his report to pick up anything that was already in progress prior to the beginning of the month.
I am trying to figure out how to add an expression that will also return events that are in progress over the arrival date chosen for the report.

I can acceed to the properties of my object DTS.package @obj but I don't know how to acceed to the properties of my first connection (I made a import with DTS Wizard from a flat data file to a database table (SQL Server). I need to change the filedir dynamically. It would be in the datasource or datafile property of this connection.
How can I change this fiel directory ???

I installed sql 2005 a while back. Then I recently found out my file system was fat32 (I don't understand why the hardware people did this...) and I had to convert to NTFS. Naturally the sql service no longer worked so I uninstalled inorder to reinstall now I can't reinstall it I keep getting this message
native_error=5039, msg=[Microsoft][SQL Native Client][SQL Server]MODIFY FILE failed. Specified size is less than current size.
I'll try to post the full log in a new post.
I am trying to resize a database initial log file from 500M to 2M. I€™m using€?
ALTER DATABASE <DBNAME> MODIFY FILE ( NAME = <DBLOGFILENAME, SIZE = 2 ) "
And I'm getting "MODIFY FILE failed. Specified size is less than current size." I tried going into the database properties and setting the log file to 2M, but it doesn€™t keep the changes.
Any help with this process?
I'm exporting reports daily to a file share and I need to rename the reports with a pseudo time stamp.
Example: I have a report named "Disk Usage" and when I export (using a data-driven subscription) I want to rename it "Disk Usage - (Jan07)" - or something to that effect.
Can anybody tell me how to accomplish this.
Is it possible to save a report as a CSV when the report is run without the user having to export the file? I need to save the report to a server location without the end user having to specify where.
View 3 Replies View RelatedHello,
I am trying to open a file on a network drive from a report. The file's location that I need to open is stored in the db for each record. I have tried using javascript to open a new window using the File:/// prefix. I have been able to open a new windows and navigate to a URL in this fashion by using a javascript window.open call and placing it in the navigation tab of the textbox. When I try this with a file, however, I get an access denied message. I was thinking to try opening the file by using the System.Diagnostic.Process.Start() method from code, but I'm not sure how to wire that up to the OnClick event of the textbox on the report. Does anyone have any ideas?
Hi All,
When I click a rdl file it opens with visual studio. But I can see the xml file. not the report. Also the debug option is not available when I open the file. How can I see the report?
Thanks
I am very new to the SQL report server, but have used other reporting tools before where I could add (or import) a new table of information directly into a report itself. I would do this when I required information in the report that is not part of the datasources tables.
For example, I use it for tying into the report complex sales budget numbers that are not included anywhere in the main datasource. I would simply add the table to my query I created, create my links, and I have a sales vs budget report.
Do you know if this is possible using the SQL reporting tools, or does the table need to be part of the main datasource ?
Thank you in advance.....

How can I create a script so that the field, when hyperlinked in the report, will open as an HTML file?

I am tring to create a tool which should do the following:
will generate reports say 100 too 500 per week .
strore those reports as a pdf file and email the pdf file as an attachment to customer/donor .
Current system is In MS Access and not happy with it.
My first question is what programming language should I consider for automation of the file storage in PDF format . as we are looking for regenerating the reports with SSRS.
My second question is do I need to have Adobe writer / Adobe distller ?
Thanks in advance for sharing your experience regarding this topic.

Hi,
Can you please tell me from where i should open the log file in Report Server Project?
Thanks,
Hi all the good people here,
Can I generate a report without having RDL file physically at the server?
According to any "Generic Report Builder" logic, the report builder must stores the properties of Report in one form (RDL/XML) or the other (in database) and at the time of generating the "Report Output", builder must be reading those properties, assigning those to any class object's (say objRPT) properties/members and calling the method to generate the report in perticular file format.
I need a way where I can assign these values stored in the database (i.e. meta data of report is stored in database) to the objRPT directly. Can I do that.
I need this because I want to see whether I can switch from "Active Reports for .Net" to "SSRS" or not. I store all the meta data of the report into the database (including its control information, parameter mapping etc.) I have used Active Report's Events as well to show/hide controls/sections conditionally.
So in short as the metadata is in predefined-database, i don't want to bother with the RDL files. Can I do that?
Please help me with this.
Hi !
I have to invoke a batch file (.bat) when an ad-hoc report is executed. I've currently written a .Net code for invoking (using System.Diagnostics.Process) the batch file. The rdl file calls the method.
When I run the report from Report Designer the batch file is getting executed. But if I deploy it in the Reporting Server and run the report through Web Interface the batch file is not getting executed.
Looks like some security issue. Can someone provide a solution for this?
Thanks.
Hey All,
I am attempting to create a report on SQL Reporting Services that uses a local XML file as its datasource. Although i did not find a way to directly do this, I found an MSDN article that walks a person through on how to use a report parameter to paste in your XML data from the page. When I set up the report in this way, I get an "Invalid URI" error when I go to the preview tab.
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa964129.aspx
What would be the best way for me to use an XML file as a datasource using reporting services? Is there a way that I can use a local file and use a parameter to point at that file?
Any info, links, tuts, etc. would help. Thanks!
Nathan
Hi all,
After publish a report to Report Server, how can we export that report to word file ?
I used to try Office Writer tool. This tool allows to export report to word file but the report must be created in Office Writer, not report that is created in Reporting Designer of Reporting Service. Is there any way to export report to word file ?
several months ago I briefly set up a data source, tested it and created a very simple report.
I now have an chance to get back into it and when I am at the SSRS Home page and click the button to start "Report Builder I get the yellow bar at the bottom of the page like I'm trying to open a file. It says: "Do you Want to open or save ReportBuilder_3_0_0_0_0.appliation(15.2 KB) from caholoweckyw7" and then the Open, Save and Cancel buttons. If I click open, the actual XML code behind the page appears and the application does not start. ?
The data source has been created and the connection has been tested successfully. I am running SQL Server 2012 and Windows 7 and IE 9.
