Is There A TSQL Statement For Importing A Singular Table Into Sql Server 2005 From Access?

Jan 18, 2008

Hello all.

I was wondering if there was a simple Import statement I could use in SQL to import an Access Table into SQL Server 2005.

I know how to use the SSIS Import/Export Wizard, but that seems excessive to import a single 204 record table

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Importing Access Table Into SQL Server 2005 Express Table And Adding One Field

Feb 16, 2007

Hi all,

Hopefully I am posting this question in the correct forum. I am still learning about SQL 2005. Here is my issue. I have an access db that I archive weekly into and SQL server table. I have used the dst wizard to create an import job and initally that worked fine. field I have as the primary key in the access db cannot be the primary key in the sql table since I archive weekly and that primary key field will be imported several time over. I overcame this initally by not having a primary key in the sql table. This table is strictly for reference. However, now I need to setup a unique field for each of the records in the sql table. What I have done so far is create a recordID field in the sql table that is an int and set as yes to Identify (auotnumber). That worked great and created unique id for all existing records. The problem now is on the import. When I try to import the access table i am getting an error because of the extra field in the sql table, and the error is saying cannot import null value into this field. So... my final question is how can I import the access table into the sql table with one extra field which is the autonumber unique field? Thanks a bunch for any asistance.

Help With TSQL Statement To Check For Table Size

Jun 19, 2002

I have to deal with an environment where the developers create and modify tables at will, and the tool they use does not check if the table created is over the 8060 limit for a table. I have a sql statement below which checks the size for me, but I can't figure out how to put a where clause on it to check for the size being over 8060. I i have over 1000 tables to check and was going to write a cursor routine to check it and print it, but I need te where clause to work.Any help appreciated

How do I solve the problem?

Problem Importing Csv Delimited Text File Into A Sql Server 2005 Table

I am using the Bulk Insert command and trying to import a CSV delimited text file into a table and I am having problems with the quote field delimiters ", " The command below works but it takes in all the "" quotes as well and the field delimiter comma , works only if the commas are the separators only. If I have a comma within a address field for example then the data gets imported into the wrong fields. What can I use to identify that the text qualifier is ". I don't see where I can use the bulk insert command to determine this. Is there another command that I can use or am I using this command incorrectly. I thank you in advance for any response or suggestion you may have.

BULK INSERT AdventureWorks.dbo.MbAddress

FIELDTERMINATOR=',',

CODEPAGE = '1252',

KEEPIDENTITY,

SQL Server 2014 :: Selecting And Merging Records For Singular Complete Record

Jan 24, 2015

I have a database full of different types of leads some for company A some for company B and so on, each doing a different service. However the leads from B can be used for A and leads from A can be used for B, so I want to merge the data.

Example:

Phone Number Name Home Owner Credit Insurance
727-555-1234 Dave Thomas Yes B
727-555-1234 Dave Thomas Gieco

I would like the end result to be one record:

Phone Number Name Home Owner Credit Insurance
727-555-1234 Dave Thomas Yes B Gieco

Since these were imported into SQL they all have a unique ID, here are the current labels

ID,phone_ number,first_ name,last_name,address1, address2, address3,city,state,postal_code,HOME_OWNR,HH_INCOME,CREDIT_RATING,AGE,MATCH,source_id,

User ID And Password For Importing Access Table

Oct 25, 2006

Hello, everyone:

I know it is a simple question. I am writing a query to import a table (MyTable) from an Access Database (MyDatabase.mdb). MyDatabase.mdb is in C: in local. This is the query from BOL.

SELECT a.*
FROM OPENROWSET('Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0', 'c:MyDatabase.mdb';'admin';'mypwd', MyTable) AS a

By BOL, admin and mypwd should be user_ID and password. But I am doing testing in local, and don't set user_ID and password. How to handle two things.

Thanks

Advice On Importing Access Data Into MSSQL Table Using Code

Aug 2, 2004

Hi,

I'm about to embark on writing some code in perl or VBscript that automatically synchronises a constantly updated Access database with an MSSQL database.

I know MSSQL has an import tool built into Enterprise manager but I'm wondering if theres a stored procedure that does this?

The way I'm thinking of doing it is to read the all the access tables into separate hash arrays and then INSERTing them into the MSSQL database after checking for any duplicates. This all sounds a bit time consuming (there are a large number of tables) and processor intensive.

If anyones done anything like this before, I'd love to hear their views......!

Thanks!

Because other reasons. I need to modify that query to:

WHERE Conditions are true
ORDER BY Field01
SELECT DISTINCT [Field02] FROM AuxTable

22810
8461760

And what I need is (without showing any other field):

Field02

Importing Table With Arabic And Non-Arabic Fields Into SQL Server 2005 Database

Nov 30, 2007

Hello,
I am using the SSIS import/export wizard to import an Access table into a sql server 2005 database. The table has fields in Arabic (name, last name, etc.) and non-Arabic fields (gender, phone number, category, etc.).
The destination table has nvarchar columns.
After the import, I can see the Arabic characters in the destination table, but they appear in inverse order (from left to right). In Access (or Excel), Arabic fields appear as they should (from right to left) and non-Arabic fields are OK as well (from left to right).
If I do a simple copy-and-paste of a "correct" Arabic text into the table, the result is still wrong (inversed letters)...
Please help, I can't see what else to do.
Thank you.

Error Importing From Access To SQL Server

Aug 19, 2005

We are attempting to import data from Microsoft Access databases to SQL Server 2000 using the DTS Import/Export Wizard. I have a few questions.

1) Some of the Access tables have a single field for combined date time with the Access data type set to Date/Time and no formatting set. When the conversion happens these become text data type in the SQL Server. Is there a way to have these become either the smalldatetime SQL Server data type or datetime SQL Server data type?

2) On some other Access Tables with the data type set again to Date/Time again no formatting is set but some columns are dates with the date in the Short Date format, and some columns are times in the Short Time format. Some of these columns may contain null values. This is causing the following error.

Error at Destination for Row number 1. Errors encountered so far in this task: 1.
Insert error column 152 ('ViewMentalTime', DBTYPE_DBTIMESTAMP), status 6: Data overflow.
Insert error column 150 ('VRptTime', DBTYPE_DBTIMESTAMP), status 6: Data overflow.
Insert error column 147 ('ViewAppTime', DBTYPE_DBTIMESTAMP), status 6: Data overflow.
Insert error column 144 ('VPreTime', DBTYPE_DBTIMESTAMP), status 6: Data overflow.
Insert error column 15 ('Time', DBTYPE_DBTIMESTAMP), status 6: Data overflow.
Invalid character value for cast specification.
Invalid character value for cast specification.
Invalid character value for cast specification.
Invalid character value for cast specification.
Invalid character value for cast specification.

We thought maybe it was due to the naming of the one field as "Time" so we changed the name of that field but again the same error occurs but with the new field name.

When we click on the transform button to view the data types none of them are listed as timestamp.

Is it possible that the DB Admin saved some tables and then later on tried to add tables to the same database that is causing this error?

Are we better off trying to import the table structure first and then fill the tables later?

Any help is appreciated.

Insert Statement For Junction Table On Many To Many Relationship Ms Sql Server 2005

Oct 10, 2007

Hello,

This seems like such a simple problem but I am new developer even through I have been on the administration end of things for some time. I will go into more detail about my tables and there relationships below. Anyway, I am trying to create a many-to-many relationship within ms sql server 2005. I have created both of my primary tables and also a junction table per the directions on microsoft's website all per ms's instructions as stated here...

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms178043.aspx

At then end of these instruction it states as a NOTE: The creation of a junction table in a database diagram does not insert data from the related tables into the junction table. For information about inserting data into a table, see How to: Create Insert Results Queries (Visual Database Tools).

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms189098.aspx

and these directions do not go into detail on how to do an insert on a junction table. And I cant find out how to do this anywhere on the internet... I did create a T-SQL INSERT statement in a trigger as listed below but I end up getting an error AS LISTED BELOW....

Here is how I set everything up...

PetitionSet table consists of:

PetitionSetID int auto-increment primary key
PetitionSetName varchar(50) no nulls
PetitionSetScope varchar(50) no nulls

the Petition table consists of:

PetitionID int auto-increment primary key
PetitionSetID int no nulls
PetitionName varchar(50) no nulls

the SetToPetitionJunction table consists of:
PetitionSetID int
PetitionID int

And, there is a composite key made up of both the PetitionSetID and PetitionID fields.

I have created the foreign key relationships with DEFAULT VALUES from the SetToPetitionJunction table to each column's respective corresponding column in each of the tables: PetitionSet and Petition.

The trigger is on the Petition table and it has the following code:

set ANSI_NULLS ON
set QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON
go
-- =============================================
-- Author: Name
-- Create date:
-- Description:
-- =============================================
ALTER TRIGGER .[SetToPetitionJunctionTrigger]
ON .[dbo].[Petition]
AFTER INSERT
AS
BEGIN
-- SET NOCOUNT ON added to prevent extra result sets from
-- interfering with SELECT statements.
SET NOCOUNT ON;

INSERT INTO SetToPetitionJunction
(PetitionID, PetitionSetID)
SELECT Petition.PetitionID, PetitionSet.PetitionSetID
FROM Petition INNER JOIN
PetitionSet ON Petition.PetitionSetID = PetitionSet.PetitionSetID

END

I have created an asp.net 2.0 front end to insert values into the PetitionSet table and the Petition Table. And in the detailsview for the Petition table I manually insert the PetitionSetID field to the number that corresponds to an auto-generated number on the primary key of the PetitionSet table. So I am maintaining referential integrity...

The first time it works and inserts one record in the Junction table containing the PetitionSetID from the PetitionSet table and the PetitionID from the petition table.

Then when I try to add in another petition for the same petition set number just like I did the first time and then I get this error...

Violation of PRIMARY KEY constraint 'PK_SetToPetitionJunction'. Cannot insert duplicate key in object 'dbo.SetToPetitionJunction'.
The statement has been terminated.

Importing Access Database Into Sql Server Express

Feb 15, 2006

[Note: originally posted this on microsoft.public.sqlserver.programmingbut had no luck there...sorry if you're seeing this twice]Some facts:1) I have an Access database (.mdb file) sitting on my harddrive.2) I have Visual Studio 2005, Sql Server Express, and Sql ServerManagement Studio Express.3) I do *not* have Microsoft Access.What I'm trying to do:I simply want to import the Access database into Sql Server Express. Inother words, I want to end up with a Sql Server Express database thathas all the same tables, keys, and relationships as the Access databaseas well as all the data from it. I can live without the queries storedin the Access database, but those would be nice too.What I've tried so far:I'm able to connect to the Access database using the "Linked Servers"features in Management Studio Express. From there, I was able to writesome simple Transact-SQL queries to find out what tables are in theAccess database and copy them, one at a time, into a Sql Server Expressdatabase.This is definitely a good start, but it doesn't take care of theprimary keys or foreign keys. There appear to be procedures for thoseas well (sp_primarykeys, sp_foreignkeys), but I keep thinking theremust be an easier way.Which brings me to...Questions:Without having to buy additional software/tools, can I import thisAccess database without a lot of programming? If so, how?Thanks in advance,-Dan

I have a table in MS Access that I would like to copy/import into SQL Server 2005. I would like to automate this process so that it copies the table over on a daily basis. Can someone tell me how this can be done?

Thank you in advance.

Can't Add A Linked Table To SQL Server 2005 With Access 2003

Oct 26, 2006

Hi,

I have an Access 2003 front end that contains a number of linked tables on SQL Server 2005 SE. I recreated the application on a second network for testing and was able to use the Linked Table Manager to refresh the database connections. The problem is when I try and add another linked table. I select Link Tables from the menu and then when I select 'ODBC Databases()' from the 'Files of Type' list box, the Link window closes right away.

Any suggestions?

TSQL + VBA Excel 2003 - Importing Data From MS Excel 2003 To SQL SERVER 2000 Using Multi - Batch Processing

Sep 11, 2007

Hi,
I need to import an SQL string from MS Excel 2003 to SQL SERVER 2000.
The string I need to import is composed by 5 different several blocks and looks like:

Code Snippet

CommandLine01 = "USE mydb"
CommandLine02 = "SELECT Block ..."
CommandLine03 = "GO
ALTER TABLE Block...
GO"
CommandLine04 = "UPDATE Block..."
CommandLine05 = "SELECT Block..."

The detail of the SQL string is at:
http://forums.microsoft.com/msdn/showpost.aspx?postid=2093921&siteid=1&sb=0&d=1&at=7&ft=11&tf=0&pageid=1

I am trying to implement OJ's suggestion:
http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2117223&SiteID=1
to use multi - batch processing to import the string to SQL SERVER, something like:

Code Snippet
Dim SqlCnt, cmd1, cmd2, cmd3
'set the properties and open a connection

cmd1="use my_db"
cmd2="create table mytb"
cmd3="insert into mytb"

SqlCnt.execute cmd1
SqlCnt.Execute cmd2
SqlCnt.Execute cmd3

Below is the code (just partial) I have, and I need help to complete it.
Thanks in advance,
Aldo.

Code Snippet
Function TestConnection()
Dim ConnectionString As New ADODB.Connection
Dim RecordSet As New ADODB.RecordSet

ConnectionString = "Driver={SQL Server};Server=myServer;Database=myDBName;Uid=UserName;Pwd=Password"
ConnectionString.Open

CmdLine01 = " USE " & myDB
CmdLine02 = " SELECT ACCOUNTS.FULLNAME FROM ACCOUNTS" ...

CmdLine03 = "GO
ALTER TABLE Block...
GO"

CmdLine04 = "UPDATE Block..."
CmdLine05 = "SELECT Block..."

RecordSet.Open CmdLine01, ConnectionString
RecordSet.Open CmdLine02, ConnectionString

ConnectionString.Execute CmdLine01
ConnectionString.Execute CmdLine02

'Retrieve Field titles
For ColNr = 1 To RecordSet.Fields.Count
ActiveSheet.Cells(1, ColNr).Value = RecordSet.Fields(ColNr - 1).Name
Next

ActiveSheet.Cells(2, 1).CopyFromRecordset RecordSet

'Close ADO objects
RecordSet.Close
ConnectionString.Close
Set RecordSet = Nothing
Set ConnectionString = Nothing

End Function

Importing Excel File Into A MS-SQL 2005 Table

Jun 14, 2006

I hope this is the right forum for my question.
I'm developing a website for a Prepaid Calling Cards distributor. Each of the cards they sale have a list of the countries the card is good for. I need to import this data into my countries_rates table. The file they are giving me is an excel file that contain 3 colums (fields)
1- Country-Name
2- Rate
3- Card_$_Price
these files contain aproximaly 400 rows so it will be a hasle to have to insert it manually every week.
In my web application I need to create a form where the user will select the card from a dropdownlist and then find the excel file to be imported for that card.
I would like to know how do I do that with Visual Studio 2005, SLQ 2005 and C#
please direct me to some links where I can learn how to do this or please send me some code snips I can see how is done.
