Is There An Option To Delete .DAT File When Dropping A Table

Advanced (insert, Delete ..) Option Not Available

Feb 18, 2008

Hi,
i want to create a sqldatasource in VWD also with advanced (insert, delete, update) option.
This works fine for 'normal' tables, but when i try to do that with e.g. aspnet_roles table (indicated as vw_aspnet_Roles in dropdownlist of VWD), or aspnet_users table, that advanced option is not available, even when i select all fields.
Why, and how can i solve that?
Thanks

Soft Delete In Table, Why Merge Agent Report Hards Delete On Table ?

Feb 1, 2007

Hi seniors

there are two tables involve in replication let say table1 and replicated table is also rep.table1.

we are not deleting records physically in table1 so only a bit in table1 has true when u want to delete a record but the strange thing is that replication agaent report that this is hard delete operation on table1 so download and report hard delete operation and delete the record in replicated table which is very crucial.

plz let me know where am i wrong and how i put it into right way.

there is no triggers on published tables and noother trigger is created on published table.

Replication - Dropping A Table

Nov 22, 2002

I'm new to replication and would like to know how to drop an article published for replication. I believe I need to follow these steps, but I am unsure.

Step (1)
exec sp_dropsubscription @publication = N'db name',
@article = N'article name',
@subscriber = 'subscriber name',
@destination_db = N'db name'

Step (2)
exec sp_droparticle @publication = N'db name',
@article = N'article name'

Step (3)
drop the article on the publisher

Step (4)
drop the article on the subscriber

Is this the correct sequence or am I missing something.

Thanks, Dave

T-SQL And Dropping And Recreating A Table

Jun 11, 2008

Hi Guys,

I am trying to DROP a table and recreate the table in a stored procedure and then I am trying to INSERT records into the newly created table in the same stored procedure.

I know I don't have to DROP the table, but I am trying to just get it to work. The process runs without error, but when I refresh the tables, the table I created isn't there. The T-SQL is as follows:

set ANSI_NULLS ON
set QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON
GO

ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[ImportFilesPremier]

AS

DROP TABLE dbo.[PremierTest]

CREATE TABLE [PremierTest] (
[AYQ] nvarchar(6) null ,
[CYQ] nvarchar(6) null ,
[Description] nvarchar(50) null,
[PIP] [decimal] (17,2) ,
[BI] [decimal](17,2) Not null,
[PD] [decimal](17,2) Not null,
[COLL] [decimal](17,2) not null,
[COMP] [decimal](17,2) not null,
[DCRAT] [nvarchar](2) null ,
[Agent][nvarchar](3) null ,
) ON [PRIMARY]

begin transaction

insert into [PremierTest]
select *
from dbo.[new agt type tri 0804]
WHERE dir_ceded_ind = 'C'

commit transaction

Any information on how I can tweak my code so it works properly would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Dropping Constraint On Temporary Table

Mar 20, 2007

I made a constraint on a temporary table in a stored procedure but now i can't delete it.

Here's what happened:
I ran this in a stored procedure

CREATE TABLE #TeFotograferen (RowID int not null identity(1,1) Primary Key,Stamboeknummer char(11) ,Geldigheidsdatum datetime, CONSTRAINT UniqueFields UNIQUE(Stamboeknummer,Geldigheidsdatum)

next time i ran the stored procedure it gave me
There is already an object named 'UniqueFields' in the database.

but since the temporary table is out of scope i cannot delete the constraint
I tried
delete from tempdb..sysobjects where name = 'UniqueFields'
and
declare @name
set @name=(SELECT name from sysobjects where id=(Select parent_obj from sysobjects where name='UniqueFields'))
drop table @name

giving me
Ad hoc updates to system catalogs are not allowed.
or
Cannot drop the table '#TeFotograferen__________________________________ __________________________________________________ _________________000000000135', because it does not exist or you do not have permission.

How To Check For Table Existence Before Dropping It?

May 8, 2006

Apologies if this has been answered before, but the "Search" function doesn't seem to be working on these forums the last couple of days.

I'd just like to check if a table already exists before dropping it so that I can avoid an error if it doesn't exist. Doing a web search, I've tried along the lines of
"If (object_id(sensor_stream) is not null) drop table sensor_stream"
and
"If exists (select * from sensor_stream) drop table sensor_stream"

In both of these cases I get the error: "There was an error parsing the query. [ Token line number = 1,Token line offset = 1,Token in error = if ]"

Sooooo... what is the standard way to check for existence of a table before dropping it? Someone help? This seems like it should be simple, but I can't figure it out.

Thanks in advance!
Dana

Unable To Update Table Even After Dropping Constraint

Copy And Delete Table With Foreign Key References(...,...) On Delete Cascade?

Oct 23, 2004

Hello:
Need some serious help with this one...

Background:
Am working on completing an ORM that can not only handles CRUD actions -- but that can also updates the structure of a table transparently when the class defs change. Reason for this is that I can't get the SQL scripts that would work for updating a software on SqlServer to be portable to other DBMS systems. Doing it by code, rather than SQL batch has a chance of making cross-platform, updateable, software...

Anyway, because it needs to be cross-DBMS capable, the constraints are that the system used must work for the lowest common denominator....ie, a 'recipe' of steps that will work on all DBMS's.

The Problem:
There might be simpler ways to do this with SqlServer (all ears :-) - just in case I can't make it cross platform right now) but, with simplistic DBMS's (SqlLite, etc) there is no way to ALTER table once formed: one has to COPY the Table to a new TMP name, adding a Column in the process, then delete the original, then rename the TMP to the original name.

This appears possible in SqlServer too --...as long as there are no CASCADE operations.
Truncate table doesn't seem to be the solution, nor drop, as they all seem to trigger a Cascade delete in the Foreign Table.

So -- please correct me if I am wrong here -- it appears that the operations would be
along the lines of:
a) Remove the Foreign Key references
b) Copy the table structure, and make a new temp table, adding the column
c) Copy the data over
d) Add the FK relations, that used to be in the first table, to the new table
e) Delete the original
f) Done?

The questions are:
a) How does one alter a table to REMOVE the Foreign Key References part, if it has no 'name'.
b) Anyone know of a good clean way to get, and save these constraints to reapply them to the new table. Hopefully with some cross platform ADO.NET solution? GetSchema etc appears to me to be very dbms dependant?
c) ANY and all tips on things I might run into later that I have not mentioned, are also greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Sky

Delete Syntax To Delete A Record From One Table If A Matching Value Isn't Found In Another

Nov 17, 2006

I'm trying to clean up a database design and I'm in a situation to where two tables need a FK but since it didn't exist before there are orphaned records.

Tables are:

Brokers and it's PK is BID

The 2nd table is Broker_Rates which also has a BID table.

I'm trying to figure out a t-sql statement that will parse through all the recrods in the Broker_Rates table and delete the record if there isn't a match for the BID record in the brokers table.

I know this isn't correct syntax but should hopefully clear up what I'm asking

DELETE FROM Broker_Rates

WHERE (Broker_Rates.BID <> Broker.BID)

Does The RetainNulls Option Do Anything If The Flat File Source Isn't Delimited?

Apr 26, 2008

I have a flat file source that is "ragged right," which is where you specify that positions 1 through 8 is a date or 9 through 20 is a string, etc.

I'm wondering if the Retain Nulls option does anything at all for ragged right files. The only way to indentify a missing value in this file format is with spaces, and SSIS doesn't equate spaces to a null using either fast or standard parsing, which means it is impossible to have nulls in a ragged right file.

I was looking to import a date column using fast parse where sometimes the date isn't specified, so you get an occasional " " as an entry. From what I can tell by experimentation, you cannot import directly into a date field using any method in SSIS if your source file is ragged right and some dates are blank, because empty strings cannot be inserted into date fields.

[Microsoft][ODBC Text Driver] In The File Specification '...', The Col1 Option Is Invalid.

Mar 23, 2007

I'm trying to connect to a tab-delimited text file using the ODBC data access. I set it up using Administrative Tools - Data Sources (ODBC) from the start menu, and clicked the 'Guess' button under Define Format.

The schema it created looks like this:

[cims_output_data.txt]
ColNameHeader=True
Format=TabDelimited
MaxScanRows=0
CharacterSet=OEM
Col1=SIMNAME
Col2=TIMESTAMP
Col3=SIMTYPE
Col4=REGION
Col5=SECTOR
....etc.

It looks OK, but if I go back to Define in Administrative Tools and try to review it, I get a similar error message:

Ini File (or Registry) C:Program FilesCIMSschema.ini is corrupt.
Section: cims_output_data.txt, Key: Col1.

Has anyone seen this before? There is nothing on MSDN as far as I could find. I read on another forum that if you replace the label 'Col1' with 'Col' the problem is solved but it still reports that the schema is corrupt when I try to open it in Administrative Tools.

Bill.
