Is There Any Method To Back Up The Database To Place Outside Of The Local Server System?

May 17, 2007

Hi, all experts here,

Thank you very much for your kind attention.

I am wondering if we could back up the databases to any place outside of the local server system? As I found, we can only back up the database to the local server system, so we have needs to share databases on network places. Is there any method to back up the database on network place rather than first of all I have to back up the database on a local server system, then copy it to the network place, that just sounds really inconvenient.

Thanks a lot in advance for your help and I am looking forward to hearing from you shortly.

With best regards,

Yours sincerely,

Change Authentication Method In A Local Database File

Apr 13, 2007

I have made a small asp.net project which uses a local database file as a part of the project. The project is running fine om my local machine, but when I upload it to the remote server, the login fails for the server.

I suspect this is can be solved by using sqlserver authentication. But I have now spent a lot of time trying to configure the database file to use this authentication mode. As I see it there are three possible solutions to the problem.

use management studio express to configure the local mdf file (Ecxept that I cant find out how to connect to the mdf-file) and from here change the authentication method to sqlserver authentication.
use Visual Web developer to change the authentication method (but how???)
make the windows authentication work on the server (this would probably require that mannamgement studio express connects to the remote database. (Same problem as no 1)

Help will be higly appreciated.

Server Error 1431 When Setting Up Database Mirroring Using Local System Accounts And Certificate Authentication

I attempted to setup database mirroring using a High Availability scenario but when I installed SQL is chose to use local system accounts for all the services. Consequently, I stubled upon a microsoft article explaining how to setup mirroring using local system accounts and certificate authentication but I am stil not able to get it to work. When I try ti initiate the mirror from the mirror server I receive an error stating "Neither the partner nor the witness server instance for database "EDENLive" is available. Reissue the command when at least one of the instances becomes available." I have checked all the endpoints and everything seems to be in order. I even checked to make sure that each server was listening on the appropriate ports and I AM able to telnet to the ports. Please help!

Move Report File From Reporting Server Back To Local Visual Studio Project

Apr 4, 2008

I am not sure if this is possible or not, but I have to at least ask.

I have a SQL Reporting Services project that has a QA server version and then a Production server version. So when requested changes are made to the reports, I make the changes in Visual Studio and then push to QA. After the changes have been tested and approved, I then push the changes to the Production server.

I have come across an issue, where requested changes were made in Visual Studio (a lot of changes), and pushed to QA. The users now have changed their minds and they want instead to stay with what is in production. So, I am looking for a way to recover the report file on the production web server, bring it back into my visual studio project to replace the report that I had changed.

Is this possible, or will I have to start over and step one and reverse the changes in Visual Studio.

Let me know.

Thank you,

T.J.

It has some comments up top about not being able to establish a connection to the SQL Express Database. I have made the changes to allow TCP/IP and Named-Pipes
The App has to be connecting to the database because it displays grid views during the order process.

Non-deterministic System Function Suser_sname-I Think Here Is The Right Place For My Question

Dec 8, 2007

Hi,

I am using Sql Server 2005 as the database management and Access 2003 as the front-end. In the database, I intend to give different views of tables to different users. That's why I used suser_sname system function, which returns the windows login id and authenticates users to see different records in the same view. What I want to do in Access is, allowing some specific users to be able to do update, insert and delete operations through a form based on this view (which only depends on 1 table). However, Access tells me that "the recordset is not updateable". In order to be able to change records, I tried to create new index for the view in Sql Server, which failed giving "Sql Server, Error number:1949" and telling me that it fails since suser_sname yields non-deterministic results. The strange thing is that when I open VB Editor in Access and write a simple update code within this form, it updates both the view and the table in the database. My question is: How can I do update, delete and insert operations on the form directly? Is there a way to do the authentication without using a nondeterministic function in Sql Server or using the front-end Access 2003? Maybe a function similar to the current_user function in Access can do that, I don't know.

It's been a long question but I desperately need the answer. Any thanks will be appreciated.

Create Copy Of Database And Place On Different Server

Oct 26, 2004

All,
I am trying to create a copy of an existing database and place on a different sql server for testing purposes. Currently my method of doing this is to create a backup, then restore a database on my new sql server. But here is the problem I am running into. When I look in Enterprise manager I can see all of the stored procedures and tables and data just fine, which is how I would like it. But, when I open up Query Analyzer I am not able to run any queries because it says "invalid object name" error. I know that the object name is correct. I think that I am having a conflict between the users which were carried over from the source backup file and the users that are on my 2 new sql server. If anyone could help, I would really appreciate it. I am stuck at this point. I am guessing it is probably something simple I am just unaware that I need to do.

Thanks,
LinsLo

Upgraded To SQL 7 And A Month Later System Went Back To 6.5 ???

Mar 14, 2000

Hi,

I did a same server upgrade from SQL 6.5 to 7.0 about a month ago. I never deleted the old 6.5 installation/databases. Yesterday, for some reason SQL 7.0 wouldn't start. When I looked at SQL 6.5 enterprise manager, it showed that 6.5 was started. So I stopped it. I tried to start 7.0 back up and it would just start 6.5. I tried a reboot... that didn't work. Then I uninstalled 6.5, rebooted, and SQL 7.0 finally came up. I check the error logs and it showed that there was a "short stack dump" (details below)

Would a "stack dump" have caused sql to revert back to 6.5?

Thanks,

What are the pre-requisites for setting up database mirroring if the service runs under Local system? Do I have to configure certificates? Is that mandatory? Can anyone please let me know. Any other gotchas?

Setting Built-in Account To Local System

May 23, 2008

Hi folks.

When installing SQLServer 2005 Express, I use the following command line:

cmdline = " /qb ADDLOCAL=SQL_Engine,SQL_Data_Files SECURITYMODE=SQL INSTANCENAME=MyServer SAPWD=MyPwd DISABLENETWORKPROTOCOLS=0 SQLAUTOSTART=1 requiresmsiengine=1"

I noticed that when installing on a Windows XP machine, the installation results in a SQLServer instance which is configured with Built-in account = Network Service. However, with the same command line used on Windows 2000 machines, the configuration winds up being Built-in account = Local System. My understanding is that the default configuration is supposed to be Local System.

What can I do to ensure that the instance configuration is always Local System during the silent installation? This is required otherwise, under the Network Service configuration, it creates a messy situation to attach DBs.

Thanks!

Mike

Rolling Back SQL Server 2005 Databases Back To SQL Server 2000

Sep 22, 2006

Does anybody know of a way to rollback SQL Server 2005
databases back to SQL Server 2000? Is there a way of doing it without
resorting to Copy Database Wizard? I love to find a way of attaching a SS 2005 database
to a SS 2000 instance without any issues.

I recently upgraded to SS 2005 and I am very unhappy with the SS 2005 and I
want to rollback to SS 2000, which was a lot more stable. I am having
several major issues that are affecting my whole company's day-to-day
operations and the managers are not happy. Some of the issues include
night time batch running very sluggish for no apparent reason. This is a
biggest problem because it only occurs once or so a week and causes a disturbance
with the daily activities when the night time processing isn€™t completed on
time. The rest of the time, the batch processing runs great, even a little better then on SS 2000. I
don't believe it is a matter of my application needing to be retuned because if
that was the case, then why isn't it running sluggish every night? Also,
it's never the same day that the sluggish behavior occurs. If it was occurring
on the same night, then I would have something to investigate within our
application, but it doesn't. Another issue that I am having involves a
night time job that restores a copy of the production database to the Data
Warehouse server to be used for updating the data warehouse. Again, most
of the time it runs great (~2 1/2 hours), but once or twice a week, it goes
stupid and takes 6 1/2 hours for no apparent reason. Again, it is not happening
the same day either, which could give me something to invesigate. On SS 2000, this same job ran flawlessly. Never I did I run into situation that the
database restoration took that long to run. Even another issue involves a SQL Server Agent Job that was put into suspended
state. What's a suspended state and how can I get it out of suspended
state? I can find no information about suspended state in BOL. I
did a Google and nothing came up. If this suspended state was put
in for security reasons, great, but then tell me how I can remove the suspended
state. I am also not happy with the
fact that I can't get accurate information about the queries that are actively
running at that particular moment. In SS 2000, when I noticed high CPU
usage on the server, I would run the sp_who2 active stored proc and it would
show me all the active thread and how much CPU it was consuming. I would
then find the running threads with the highest CPU numbers and investigate the
query and see if we could improve it. Now in SS 2005, I get in the same
situation and run the sp_who2 stored proc, and there is no smoking gun.
All of the active threads are showing very little CPU usage, which I am very
suspect of. What the heck happen to sp_who2? I looked at some of
the other ways of looking at running processes (i.e... sys.sysprocesses) and
they don't appear to be giving the information that I need.

I am very unhappy and I just want to roll back to SS 2000 and wait a couple of
years before I upgrade to SS 2005.
