Is there a simple way to tell when a database was last accessed or changed?
We have some databases on old servers which we would like to discontinue but do not know if they are being used.
We would rather not just take them offline.
Is there anyway I can find out if they are still being used?
Please help if you can.

I am trying to manage a sql server.
In this sql server, I have about 200 databases.
Is there any way/suggestions to check to see if some of the database has not been accessed/updated for the last month or longer?

I was having issue with one of my databases in SQL EXPRESS. It is offline this morning …it said “Database 'MyDB' cannot be opened due to inaccessible files or insufficient memory or disk space. When I checked the error log ..it only said “FCB::Open failed: Could not open file D:DatabasesMyDB_Data.mdf for file number 1. OS error: 32(failed to retrieve text for this error. Reason: 15100).
I did alter database offline and and online ..it works for me( I can access the database again but I need to find the cause of this issue )I checked the max memory setting is still by default .. not limited for SQL ..it could be the cause ?

View 1 Replies View RelatedOur application team make design changes of the database in their development server and asks me to restore the bak file from the development server into the production server with replace command. The database in the production server is connected to the application server and so when I try to restore the database error message comes that the database is in use.
So first I find out the sessions with the logins who is the user in the database with sys.dm_exec_sessions joined with sys.dm_exec_requests and then kill the sessions. And after that it is possible to restore. But many times when I kill the session and try to restore in between new sessions comes into effect which are generated from the web server and many times I have to resubmit the query in the dmv's and find the sessions and kill it again and again before restore can be done. Is there any correct method to restore an active database which is being accessed by the application from a web server with out stopping the web server?
Is there anyway I can find or make a report if a databases has been accessed/used since last month?

I want to manage memory relational data in the memory(Insert, delete, return) and manipulate the data via SQL 2005 and CLR database objects.
The gool is to manage a table that relatively has a lot of inserts and deletes which takes a lot of IO operations and i want to reduce it. the data itself is not permanant each row deleted from the table after 15-20 minutes.
I looked at the extended stored procedure and other CLR enable objects and it seams that they all return data from the database itself.
How can i return data that is reside in the memory?

Hello everyone,I have a webcontrol that uses database-structures alot, it uses the system tables in SQL to read column information from tables. To ease the load of the SQL server I have a property that stores this information in a cache and everything works fine.I am doing some research to find if there are anyway to get information from the SQL server that the structure from a table has changed.I want to know if a column or table has changed any values, like datatype, name, properties, etc.Any suggestions out there ?!

basically when i looked at this morning i saw a database which is set in single user mode.when i tried to look at the errorlog i found nothing except the spid's of different people and as far as i know i think that spid's are assigned randomly depending on there availability.
Now this has happened twice recently and now i want to find out who the culprit is his username, machine name but not spid.
Can i do it if how can i.
how do i track each and every users info what he is doin and at what time.
do i need to set up or configure any options.
sometimes i also see that there is a dbcc command run by as it says winnt/system what does this mean how is this running.

Recently my host upgraded there PHP to version 4.3.10 and before the upgrade the queries were working fine.
Im on a windows server that runs PHP and im using a MSSQL database.
I've checked the bug reports on PHP and didn't come up with anything as well as googling the error..

I wasn't able to connect to my SQL server 2000 database (which reside in the network in a windows 2003 server) after the IP address of the server has changed and the server is shut down, moved and re-started.
I was able to connect to this server by using ADO using VB. I was able to register this server in my EM and was able to create ODBC connection. Just when using ADO.NET, I wasn't able to connect. Any ideas? Will there be any caching within ADO.NET still pointing to the old IP address?

I do weekly full backups of my SQL databases via a scheduled T-SQL job.I noticed that I have some static databases that dont normally change,so I dont want to back it up if it has not changed, but when it does,then I want a backup.Is there something in the master table, as example, that I can checkprior to running the backup that will indicate any changes?An example is the Northwind database. I could exclude it from thebackup, but then I would not back it up if it where to change. View 3 Replies View RelatedWe had a strange incident with our Database Mail today. We use sp_send_DBMail to send mail from stored procedures in our SQL Server 2012 (11.0.2138). There are 7 profiles available for use by different databases. The actual stored procedures are called by Web apps using a connection string that has a specific SQL user identified.
Last night app 1 was using profile 1 like usual and app 3 was using profile 3 like usual. This this morning (7 hours later) App 3 was sending from profile 1 everytime a call to sp_send_dbmail was made. Not good. App 1 was still correctly sending from profile 1.
We ran a call to sp_send_dbmail from a query window using profile 3 and it sent using the correct profile 3. We used the Database Mail right-click option of "Send Test Email..." to both profiles and they worked as expected.
Our investigation showed that in the Database Mail configuration wizard "Manage Profile Security" section Private Profiles tab... the User name that is used to call the stored procedures from web app 3's sp_send_DBMail did not have access to profile 3 anymore. It did have access to 5 of the other 7 profiles. 1 of the no access profiles was legitimate #7.
The only thing that has been changed lately was, 2 days ago a mail profile was deleted as it was no longer used. We used the Database Mail Configuration Wizard to remove it.

I tried to open mdf file without any success. Then, all database files icon were changed or grayed out. How can i repair or replace the file to it's original file? ex... the file named "event.mdf" has now a wrong icon not a database icon like before.

Saw that my job that backs up the Full Recovery mode databases failed, so I moved that database to my Simple database backup job plan and removed it from the Full Recovery job. I am unable to remove the db from the Transaction Log task on the Full Plan because when I try to edit that job "Databases with Simple Recovery will be excluded"
My transaction log backups are still failing with the following error: "The statement BACKUP LOG is not allowed while the recovery model is SIMPLE. Use BACKUP DATABASE or change the recovery model using ALTER DATABASE. BACKUP LOG is terminating abnormally.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.Just want to remove that database so my Full Recovery backup job does not try to back it up.

I have trouble displaying images that are accessed through URLs in my report.
If I call the URL directly in the Browser the Image can be opened without problems.
The images can be accessed with an anonymous access.
When I deploy the report or in the Preview of Visual Studio I get the following message:
[rsWarningFetchingExternalImages] Images with external URL references will not display if the report is published to a report server without an UnattendedExecutionAccount or the target image(s) are not enabled for anonymous access.
In Layout View of Visual Studio the image is showen correctly.
The Images are stored on a Solaris maschine with WebSphere 6.0 as WebServer.
Any ideas?

Can any one recommend an approach for identifying the frequently accessed tables and files in a SQL/Server application? Particularly, if the database is stored on raw partitions instead of FAT or NTFS. Thanks.

Some of our databases have tables that I am sure are not being used and I would like to generate a list of tables that have not been accessed or modified for some period of time.
I looked for a system procedure but didn't see anything that satisfied my need.
Currently I rename suspect tables and wait for someone or some process to gripe, but I don't care for that method for obvious reasons.
