After installing Visual Studio 2005 everything has installed fine EXCEPT SQLSERVER 2005. I remember having had the same problem some moths ago, but can't remember now how to fix it. I deinstalled VS2005 and installed back again, but the result was the same. SQLSERVER failed to install

Problem After Installing Sqlserver 6.5 Sp5a

we have a client that just upgraded to sp5a and are encountering problems...one stored procedure seems to routinely become corrupted, and does not complete correctly. however, it does not error out, and the only way to tell that it did not complete successfully it to query the data.

the only solution that i have found to this problem is to recreate the procedure. i have tried using sp_recompile to force a recompile at next runtime, and the problem still occurs. i have tried recreating the calling procedure, and recreating procedures it calls, but neither fix the problem.
after recreating the procedure, it continues to run fine for anywhere from 1 hour to 8 hours, and then starts to fail again.

microsoft so far has not been able to give us help in diagnosing this, and i am coming up with nothing in my own investigations.

has anyone seen a problem like this in sp5a?

also, it is occurring on 5 similar dbs that are on the same server...

:confused: I have a strange problem, and I need to know what would be the source of this. I have a laptop computer with the following configuration:

Pentium III
Brand :Toshiba
Speed: 500 Mhz
RAM : 192 MB
Hard Disk :6 GB
Space Available:4 GB
O.S.:Windows 98

The computer works pretty good and run different applications. I was trying to install MS-SQLSERVER 2000 and I checked out the software and hardware requierements for that and everything seems to be fine. The reason that I need it its because of my trips, and its incredible I have a desktop computer with almost the same configuration and runs pretty good.

When you have a problem installing SQL-SERVER 2000 you have a file called cnfgsvr with all the explanation. I got this at hand so you can see better the problem:

Accordiing to the message shown in the bottom line, we may see its like the installation were stopped because of a request of the Control Service Manager. I never stop the installation or something like that but I dont have a clue why or where is the problem here.

My desktop computer is standalone and works without problems. Of course I read that if you have PWS ( Personal Web Server ) running you may need to stop that first, and then proceed. I did it and it never worked.

If you have any suggestion about it, this would be greatly appreciated.

Account Permission For Installing/running Sqlserver And Service That Accesses It

Hello,

I am totally confused by what account I should be running my sql server database and my business layer service as.

I take it that when installing sqlserver and my service that I should be logged in as administrator.

Should I be using "Local Service", "Local System" or "Network Service" to run these processes as?

Summary of my business layer service
* Clients connect to this service on a tcp/ip port
* It accesses the file system
* it connects to the database

Installing MSDTC Resource After Installing SQL Server 2000 Cluster

Is it possible to install and configure the MSDTC resource in a SQL Server 2000 cluster after SQL is installed and running?

When I recently went through a rebuild of my cluster, I forgot to install the resource before installing SQL Server. Now, if I install and bring online the MSDTC resource the SQL disk groups will not fail over correctly. The SQL Server resource will not come online.

Class Method Is Smoking Fast When Executed Outside Of SQLServer, Dog Slow As A CLR Function Is SQLServer - Anyone?

We have a static class that makes an HTTPWebRequest to get XML data from one of our vendors. We use this as input to a stored proc in SQLServer2005. When I compile this class and call it from a console application in visual studio it executes in milliseconds, everytime. When I compile it, create the assembly and clr function and execute it in SQLServer, it takes around 14 seconds to execute the first time, then on subsequent requests it is again really fast, until I wait for 10 seconds and re-execute, once again it is slow the first time and then fast on subsequent requests. We do not see this behavior when executing outside SQLServer. Makes me think that some sort of authentication is perhaps taking place the first time the function is run in SQLServer? I have no idea how to debug this further. Anyone seen this before or have any ideas?

Hi experts;
I have a problem with unicode character 0x2300
I created this table
create table testunicode (Bez nchar(128))

Insert Data
insert into testunicode (Bez)values('Œ€„¢')
with 2 Unicode characters
Œ€ = 0x2300
„¢ = 0x2122

Selecting the data
select Bez from testunicode
I see
"?„¢"

„¢ = 0x2122 is ok but instead of 0x2300 there is 0x3f

When I modify the insert statement like that ( 8960 = 0x2300 )
insert into testunicode (Bez)values(NCHAR(8960)+'„¢')

and select again voila i see
"Œ€„¢"
Does anyone have an idea?

Trying To 'load' A Copy Of A SQLServer 2000 Database To SQLServer 2005 Express

I am trying to 'load' a copy of a SQLServer 2000 database to SQLServer 2005 Express (on another host). The copy was provided by someone else - it came to me as a MDF file only, no LDF file.

I have tried to Attach the database and it fails with a failure to load the LDF. Is there any way to bypass this issue without the LDF or do I have to have that?

The provider of the database says I can create a new database and just point to the MDF as the data source but I can't seem to find a way to do that? I am using SQL Server Management Studio Express.

Replacing Sqlserver 2000 With Sqlserver 2005 Express

I have an app that uses a sqlserver 2000 jdbc driver to connect to a sqlserver 2000.

Is it possible to do a direct replacement of sqlserver 2000 with sqlserver 2005 express just by reconfiguring the app to point to the express? The app would still be using the sqlserver 2000 jdbc driver to try and make the connection.

If that is a possibility, what can be some differences in the configuration? Previously with 2000 the config information I entered is:

server name: "machinename"( or ip). I've also tried "machiname/SQLEXPRESS"

DB name: name of db instance

port: 1433(default)

user and pass.

My attempts so far results in

"java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]Error establishing socket."

and

"java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]Unable to connect. Invalid URL."

Hello people.

I am in the process of planning a server upgrade to sql2005 x64.

I created 2 linked servers: one to a SQL2000 sp4 server and one to a SQL7.0 SP3.

I have the following error when I query the linked servers.
OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "IVDM2K" returned message "Unspecified error".
OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "IVDM2K" returned message "The stored procedure required to complete this operation could not be found on the server. Please contact your system administrator.".
Msg 7311, Level 16, State 2, Line 1
Cannot obtain the schema rowset "DBSCHEMA_TABLES_INFO" for OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "IVDM2K". The provider supports the interface, but returns a failure code when it is used.

I am aware of KB 906954.

I applied the instcat.sql on the SQL2000SP4 server and my linked server issues for that one are gone.

However, I ran the instcat.sql script on the SQL7.0 sp3 server and the linked server is still giving me an issue.

I need to Import Data TblShift from Access to SQLServer €“ using DTS I€™ve done this successfully!

Now I want to use parameter so I only importing record within range (e.g. ShiftDate BETWEEN 05-24-2006 AND 06-23-2006)

In SQLServer, I have created table to store the date range as following:

How do I use the date range from TblParameter(SQLServer) to import record from TblShift(Access) using DTS?

Hi,
I am new to SQL Server 2005. I tried connecting to my local machine by using my machine name as Server name and then tried running the following query:
SELECT * FROM SYS.Objects. It gives me following error:
Invalid object name 'sys.objects'.

Whereas, if I connect to my local machine using mahcinenameSQLEXPRESS, then the above mentioned query runs fine.

Why is this difference? What is the difference when I login in these 2 different ways.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi all, Im new here so il start with a little introduction of myself, My name is Arjan im 19 years old from Holland, and i work for a company to compleet my ICT Education.

My situation:

My boss gave me a server with server 2003 standard and Sql server 2005 and visual studio 2005 installed already, he asked me if i could figure out how the 'new' reporting services work, Im pretty new to SQL and the reporting service but i figured out i had to install asp.net / frameworks and IIS.

So right now i wanna start the Reporting Services Configuration Manager and i get an error that says 'Invalid namespace' and when im trying to approach by using my browser i get 'page not found' so obviously their is Alot wrong. I asked my boss if i could not reinstall everything and do it in the correct order (IIS / ASP.net / Frameworks before installing SQL server 2k5 but that was not an option because we dont seem to have the cd's anymore.

The server is not connected to any network or the internet.

My Question:

Is their any way to fix this? and if yes could anyone tell me where to start

Not Be Able To Reinstall SQLServer 2005 After SQLServer 2005 SP I

Hi every body,

I have SQLServer 2005 runs well for months and stop working after install SqlServer2005 SP1. I try to reinstall the SQLServer 2005 but I have problem when install work station component on my and the error is "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor". Please help me to fix this bug. I do not want to reformat my machine.

I am learning ASP.NET from teach yourself ASP.NET in 24 hours. When i try to connect to the SQL Server i get an error "SQL Server does not exist or access denied".
SQL appears to exist, and to be running. I am trying to connect through Localhost.
Where should i be looking if access is being denied by a firewall and how should i disable it

Installing 7.0 On Top Of 6.5

Whenever we install SQL Server 7.0 on a box with 6.5 on it, the installation always fails at the last hurdle. It gives the following error:

Microsoft SQL Server Version Switch
An error occured which prevented a succesfull version switch. Please make sure the Registry Editor, Query Analyzer and ISQL are closed, and try running vswutch.exe again.

We've followed all technet article recommendations to no avail. Any ideas ?

Re-Installing 7.0

I've been trying to re-install 7.0(on my test server) but duuring the wizard setup it says:
"Unable to find path HKEKY_LOCAL_MACHINE_SOFTWAREMicrosoftMSSQLSERVERSe tup.
A uninstall was done but I don't understand why it won't just install from the
CD.

Also How can you change the server name in EM, under the SQL Server Group
you have the server name, i.e ServerA. When I put 2000 on the same machine that wouldn't do the re-install for 7.0 it shows the server name as ServerAServerA and I just want to rename it to ServerA. But in EM under 'Registered SQL Server Properties' the server name field is not active for modification.

I would appreciate any help to the up-most. Thanks

HELP In Installing SQL 7.0

I installed SQL 7.0 in windows 2000, at first it was working fine but after a few hours it cannot connect to my database.

I reformat my pc coz I was so desperate to make it work but after reformatting SQL won't work still. It cannot connect with my database which is also the same computer. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it over and over but I still face the same problem.

The SQL Server Service Manager there's nothing in the Service boxes.

I need your Help really bad!!!
