Issues With 1.1 Framework Calling SQL 2005 CLR Sprocs?

Oct 5, 2006

Are there any issues calling SQL 2005 CLR bases stored procedures and functions from a web application which uses the dotnet 1.1 framework?

I assume not, but would like advice from those who've been there...

Thanks,

Marie

Advantages Of Using CRL Sprocs Over T-SQL Sprocs?

Apr 23, 2006

I am wondering what the advantages of using CRL Sprocs over T-SQL sprocs and what not.

Looking for such comparison and articles on websites resulted in only "how to create CRL sprocs" but none of them were talking about what they are used for in what situations.

I would really appreciate it if you guys can post comments, links and external articles.

Thank you in advance.

.Net Framework 2.0 And Sql Server 2005

Jul 3, 2006

Does anyone know if there are any issues with .Net Framework 2.0 and SQL Server 2005?

Here is my problem .....

I have a web application running on a Windows 2003 Server SE with IIS 6.0. We recently migrated all of our databases to SQL Server 2005 and now we are getting an exception when retrieving data from the DB (Exception Below). We have switched our databases back to Sql Server 2000 and the problem does not occur. Any Help would be much appreciated.

.NET Framework Issue With SQL 2005 Db Mirroring

Oct 25, 2007

We have a .NET application with a backend SQL 2005. The issue started when we setup DB mirroring on this db. The issue is an System.InvalidOperationException that is thrown every once in a while when connecting to the databases. The message is 'Internal .Net Framework Data Provider error 6.'.

Both Operating System (Windows 2003) and databases (SQL server 2005) are up to date, including all Security Updates and Service Packs.

The issue disapeared when we stopped db mirroring.

Any one has this issue?

Sql Server 2005 A Fatal Error Occurred In .NET Framework Runtime

Oct 15, 2007

We've deployed an assembly to a new production sql server 2005 instance, and have been having periodic restarts of sql server. The sql server service appears to be stopping and restarting on it's own since the assembly was deployed.

We've narrowed it down to a decryption method. We haven't been able to produce the issue on a consistant basis. Even if we put a ton of load on the stored procedure calls.

The error is below we receive (I cut out some, so it would fit in the thread), we also have mdmp files, that I've attempted to debug with Visual Studio 2005 and Windbg with no success. I have all the symbols (I'm pretty sure), but I don't have much experience with WinDbg, so it's been slow going.

Here's a little about the environment.

Windows Server 2003 Enterprise x64 SP2
Microsoft SQL Server version 9.00.3042.00 SP2
16 MB physical memory
Quad 3.2 GHz Xeon
3 sets of raid drives.
c: OS
e: sql data
e: sql logs
All Sql and windows patches are up to date.

Only thing I can figure is this is something to do with the .NET libraries. When the assembly was compiled it was set to compile for any CPU. We even tried compiling on the 64 bit OS with no luck still.

If anyone has had a similar issue, it would be most helpful, thanks,
Byron

SQL Server 2005 Express Installation Problem: Incompatible Components From Beta Version Of .NET Framework

Oct 21, 2005

Hi all,
Yesterday, I just downloaded the SQL Server 2005 Express (SQLEXPR.EXE) and tried to install it in my Windows XP Pro PC that is on Microsoft NT 4 LAN System. I got the following error:                                                                        Microsoft SQL Server 2005 CTP setup                                                        The Microfost .NET Framework 2.0 is not installed. Please install before running setup.
This morning, I downloaded the NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package Beta 2 (x86) from the Microsoft Download Center and installed it in my Windows XP Pro PC. Then I tried to install the SQL Server 2005 Express (SQLEXPR.EXE) again. This time I got a new error:                                                                                                   SQL Server 2005 Setup has detected incompatible components from beta versions of Visual Studio, .NET Framework, or SQL Server 2005. Use ADD or Remove Programs to remove these components, and then run SQL Server 2005 Setup again.
I am confused and lost in this installation problem.  Was the .NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package Beta 2 (x86) a wrong Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 I downloaded and installed in my PC?  Where is the right Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 for the SQL Server 2005 Express?  Please help and advise.
Thanks in advance,
Scott  Chang

About Those Sp_ Sprocs

Mar 6, 2007

I find the replication put many sprocs with sp_ prefix in our database. Do you think that should be changed? I have been told not to use sp_. See http://www.sqlmag.com/Article/ArticleID/23011/sql_server_23011.html.

Sprocs Vs Sql Queries.

Apr 29, 2007

i have a question.  how do i protect my website from sql injection.right now most of my queries are in the form of:  Public Sub updateCredits(ByVal deduct As Int16, ByVal userid As Guid)            Dim cmd As New SqlCommand            Dim con As New SqlConnection(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("LocalSqlServer2").ConnectionString)            cmd.Connection = con            cmd.CommandType = Data.CommandType.Text            cmd.CommandText = "Update [userprofile] SET credits = credits - @c WHERE userID= @id"            cmd.Parameters.Add("@id", SqlDbType.UniqueIdentifier).Value = userid            cmd.Parameters.Add("@c", SqlDbType.Int).Value = deduct            Using con                con.Open()                cmd.ExecuteNonQuery()                con.Close()            End Using            cmd.Dispose()        End Sub is that a safe way to do it? using parameters and stuff? or should i completely switch over to stored procedures as i hear they are safer.

Sprocs- What Actually Got Executed?

Sep 21, 2005

I know you can use sql profiler to see what sqlcode actually executed when you run a sproc, but is there any way toget this information in asp.net? After executing a sproc, I'd like to send the sqlcode that was sent, to my Audit class. Is there any wayto retrieve this in asp.net itself?cheers!

Variables In Sprocs

Sep 27, 2001

While trying to assign a variable a table name then later use the variable name in a select statement (ie select sys_id from @table_name) it fails and says incorrect syntax.

How can I use a variable for a table name to later use within the sproc?

Exec And Sprocs

Nov 7, 2000

is it possible to have a sproc with a input parm of a column name and have this column name be inserted into an exec statement that runs and provides the output as a OUTPUT parm instead of a result set?

i can get the sproc to take the column name as a parm, run the exec, but cannot figure out how to assign the "dynamic sql" output to a OUTPUT variable instead of returning the result set.

Calling All MSSQL 2005 Experts

Jul 27, 2006

Dear Group.Wondered if any of you has any suggestion for the following?Trying to install SQL Server 2005 Eval on a 'clean' machine. Well, mymistake was probably that I had installed Visual Studio 2005Professional Eval before which installed an MSSQL Express instance.Since then I didn't get 'Enterprise Manager' (excuse my ignorance, Iknow it's called differently in2005 but it's late and I'm tired) forMSSQL 2005 installed.Don't remember the error exactly but after sometrying I received some error during the MSSQL Management Studio (isthat right?) installation that it needs to be upgraded in some ini filewhich I looked for to no avail. ANYWAY, after some desperate registrydeletes and following MS Kbase articles I arrived at: 'The installerhas encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This mayindicate a problem with the package. The error code is 2718.' duringthe installation of SQL Server Backward-Compatibility files.Which is of course complete rubbish. We all now that Microsoft has donean awful job in getting SQL Express and SQL Server installedside-by-side but it never has been as bad as this on any machinebefore. Needless to say the package is fine as I've used it many timesbefore. Any suggestions?Gratefully yours,Martin'Just wanna get on with work. Tired of starring at error messages.'

Calling Functions In SQL Server 2005

Apr 23, 2008

Hi ,
I have a question about calling functions in SQl Server 2005.

Let's say that I have created as a dbo a function called Calculations.

If I want to call it from T-SQL I will write Select dbo.Calculations (arguments if any) etc.

My question is If I can skip the "dbo" part. Call the function without using the dbo .
Can I do that ?
Should I create the function as supervisor ? Does Sql Server has a property or something which will allow me to call the function without using the "dbo." ?

Thank you
zkar

Calling A DTS (SSIS 2005) From A Vbscript

Jul 12, 2006

Hello,

I would like to run a DTS using a Vbscript, i managed to get the DTS running, but i would like to pass the value of a global variable, but im having lots of dificulties.

Since it is a VBS i only have access to the things registered on the registry of the machine, so i don't have access to the microsoft.sqlserver.dts.runtime, at is maximum.

So i do the following

Set objApplication = CreateObject("MSDTS.Application")

Set objDTSPackage = objApplication.LoadPackage("T.dtsx", True, Nothing)

'This should pass the variable but insted i have an error

set pkgVars = objDTSPackage.Variables

set myVar = objDTSPackage.Variables.Add("User::Name", false, "User", "TesteA")

'End of the error part

DTSResults = objDTSPackage.Execute()

The error that i got is the following

"Object doesn't support object or method"

What am i doing wrong?

Thank you

Search For A Phrase In Sprocs

Jul 10, 2007

Due to a business rule change, I had to take what was 1 column in a table and split it off into a new table. Now I need to find every time that column is used in a SPROC and change those sprocs. Is there a way to sift through the sprocs to search for a "phrase" (the column name) -- other than reading through every one manually?

Thanks

Cyclomatic Complexity For Sprocs

May 8, 2015

there's a concept named cyclomatic complexity in software dev which measures the complexity of code by its number of decision points. This would be measured by # of if statements, nested if statements, etc in a method.

Do SQL queries have any type of equivalent? For example, # of joins, # of conditions, etc. Factors into a complexity metric which indicate how complex, risky or error-prone a sproc might be based on certain factors?

Sep 13, 2006

Setup:  I have a C# 2.0 class library that contains certain business logic that is to be triggered by certain database states.  There is a trigger that calls a stored procedure that is working properly (i.e. the stored procedure is being executed). Problem:  I have not yet figured out how to call the dll from the stored procedure.  Does anybody have any tutorials they could point me to or any advice to point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance for any help.
