JDBC Not Returning Full Dataset All The Time

Apr 10, 2008

Hi All,
I am having an issue with a JDBC based reporting tool when connected to my SQL2005 db. Basically I am getting erradic results. Let me explain the two cases.
1) The full result set gets returned. This is good. In my trace file, I can see the cursor getting created and chunks of 50 records returning to the program. The last chunk has 10 records in it (a total of 960 records).
2) Partial results returned. 10 records, which is strangely enough the last chunk size of the full result set. No errors are flagged.
The vendor of the product ensures me that they cannot replicate the problem (even given my db), and I am having trouble identifying places/settings in SQL2005 that might help.
If it makes a difference, the dataset is a query with many LEFT OUTER JOINS, but the problem seems to stem from the inclusion of a subquery which uses a function in its from clause. EG.

Code Snippet
SELECT blah1, blah2
FROM table1 LEFT OUTER JOIN table2 ON ....
...
WHERE EXISTS (SELECT id FROM func1(2,2) WHERE id = blah1)

If I remove the EXISTS clause, things seem to work well.

My @@version = Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.2050.00 (Intel X86) Feb 13 2007 23:02:48 Copyright (c) 1988-2005 Microsoft Corporation Developer Edition on Windows NT 5.1 (Build 2600: Service Pack 2)

Any help with this would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks,
Steele.

Returning A Dataset From A Procedure

Sep 11, 2004

Hi all

I have written a SQL Procedure to return all the results from a table and am writing a function to run the procedure (So that it is easier to use within my app). I have kinda got a bit confused. :oS

The SQL procedure Gallery_GetAllCetegoryPictures has one input variable (CategoryID) and returns a table procedure is something like SELECT * FROM Gallery WHERE CategoryID = @CategoryID.

The code im having trouble with is below:

Function GetAllCategoryPictures(ByVal CatID As Integer) As DataSet
Dim MyConnection As SqlConnection
Dim MyCommand As New SqlCommand
Dim MyParameter As SqlParameter
MyConnection = New SqlConnection(AppSettings("DSN"))
MyConnection.Open()

MyCommand.CommandText = "Gallery_GetAllCetegoryPictures"
MyCommand.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure

MyParameter = MyCommand.Parameters.Add("@CategoryID", SqlDbType.Int, 4)
MyParameter.Direction = ParameterDirection.Input
MyParameter.Value = CatID

MyCommand.ExecuteNonQuery()

End Function

OK so that executes the procedure now I want to return the data within a dataset.

Do I need to use a data reader? if so how do I do it?

Thanks

Full Date Value Not Being Written Via JDBC - Any Ideas?

Feb 8, 2007

Hi,I'm trying to write a java.sql.Date to a database and the minutes/seconds etc. are not being written. I've seen and tested manyexamplesfound via searches and still have come up with nothing. Here's what Ihave:java.sql.Date formation - recommended constructor forms:java.sql.Date entryDttm = newjava.sql.Date(System.currentTimeMillis());ORjava.sql.Date entryDttm = new java.sql.Date(newjava.util.Date().getTime());// prepared statement insertpstmt.setDate(1, entryDttm);// what is written to database2007-02-07 12:00:00.000// what needs to be written2007-02-08 09:37:25.793The above date value is written when I insert using the SQL methodGETDATE()The field is stored in a MS SQL Server 8.0 database and is defined asa 'datatime' or 'smalldatetime' field.How can I replicate the results of GETDATE() into 'datetime' and'smalldatetime' fields ina MS-SQL Server database (or is it possible?). Would a timestampdatatype make more sense?I'm using MS_SQL Server JDBC drivers.Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!

Returning A Dataset From Custom Assembly?

Jan 10, 2007

Is it possible to have a Reporting Services dataset be returned from a custom assembly? I need to produce data for a graph that is not easily queried from the database and I am already familiar with using a custom assembly in an RS report.

What I would like to do is have a method that fills a dataset and returns it to the report for processing. Is this possible?

I am running SQL 2000 and RS 2000.

Thanks.

SPs In Access 2000 (SQL) / Crosstab Problem / Returning Dataset

Dec 7, 2003

SPs in Access 2000 (SQL) / Crosstab problem / returning dataset
I've recently "upsized" from Access97 (Jet) to Access 2000 (SQL) client/server using MS SQL Server 2000. As a result, I'm new to the concept of Stored Procedures. I am trying to work out a general solution to the fact SQL doesn't allow an easy way to create dynamic crosstab queries (from within Access client/server).

I've included the SP code I found (sp_crosstab) to create the crosstab solution. To execute the sp_crosstab, I use another SP (execute_crosstabs) which defines the input parameters.

If I run the SPs in Query Analyzer, the results are returned as a dataset. However, if I run them in MS Access 2000, the following message is returned:

"The stored procedure executed successfully but did not return records." Likewise, if I attach an Access form to the SP, it returns the same message.

I've seen ADO code which could return the records (to Access), but I would prefer an alteration to the SP (sp_crosstab) which would return the records automatically.

For example, if I run the SP below (sp_MyTables which executes sp_tables), a dataset is returned automatically instead of the message "The stored procedure executed successfully but did not return records." If I attach sp_MyTables to an Access form, the records are returned in the form as well.

My question is this: How can I get sp_crosstab to act like sp_tables (executed by sp_MyTables) to return a dataset instead of the infernal message?

I've looked all over the Internet and have not seen this issue addressed directly. Your help would be EXTREMELY appreciated (and will probably make Internet history)!

(I've included the SP's below.)

Stored Proc Returning Dataset && Number Of Records Not Working

Jul 7, 2004

Hi

I've created a sproc in SQL2000 that returns a dataset from a temp table & the number of records it's returning as an output parameter, although I can't seem to retrieve the value it's returning in asp.net although I get the dataset ok.

This is my sproc
create procedure return_data_and_value
@return int output
as
set nocount on
...
...
select * from #Table
select @return = count(*) from #Table
drop table #Table
go

This is asp.net code

Dim nRecords as Int32
Dim cmd As SqlCommand = New SqlCommand("return_data_and_value", conn)
cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure

Dim prm As SqlParameter = New SqlParameter("@return", SqlDbType.Int)
prm.Direction = ParameterDirection.Output
cmd.Parameters.Add(prm)

conn.Open()

dr = cmd.ExecuteReader

nRecords = convert.int32(cmd.parameters(@return).value)

conn.close

Thanks

Transact SQL :: Stored Procedure Not Returning Dataset (No Columns Are Coming)

Jun 3, 2015

We are facing an issue while executing a stored procedure which uses a table of current database with INNER JOIN a table of another database in same instance.

Per our requirement, we are inserting select statement output in table variable. Then applying business logic and finally showing the data from table variable.

This scenario is working exactly fine in Dev environment. But when we deployed the code in quality environment. Stored procedure does not returning OUTPUT/ (No column names) from table variable.

During initial investigation, we found that collation of these two databases are different but we added DATABASE_DEFAULT collation in the JOIN.

SQL 2012 :: Full-Text Queries Returning No Results

Jun 9, 2014

So I'm trying out full-text indexing for the first time and, in particular, FileTables in SQL Server 2012. I've followed a Microsoft walkthrough and everything seems to be ok. However, when I query the table using the CONTAINS keyword, I get no results (a regular query to make sure there are records in the table returns the expected number of results).

I'm now trying to troubleshoot, and have been using the FULLTEXTCATALOGPROPERTY function, but I don't understand the results.

If I run SELECT FULLTEXTCATALOGPROPERTY(N'CatlogName',N'ItemCount'), I get a result of 51. There are 96 documents in the NTFS folder where the documents are stored, and the table has 96 records, so I don't know where 51 is coming from. 55 of the documents are .DOC files, the rest are .PDF, and some (or maybe all) of the PDFs are scanned images of documents, which I don't expect to be indexed, so maybe that explains it. And in another thread in these forums, a poster suggests that the result for this function should be either 0 or 1, with 0 meaning that no documents are pending indexing, but maybe I've misunderstood that.

If I run SELECT FULLTEXTCATALOGPROPERTY(N'CatalogName',N'UniqueKeyCount'), I get a result of 2. I have got two full-text indexes in this catalog (one on the FileTable, one on a regular table with FT enabled). Is this result therefore expected? Again, reading online seems to suggest that a result of 0 is desirable, but I don't understand why, and if it is I don't understand why my result is 2!

I've now also run SELECT* FROM sys.dm_fts_index_keywords(DB_ID('DatabaseName'), Object_ID('dbo.FileTableName)), which I believe is supposed to list all of the indexed words from the table specified. I get one row returned, as follows:

keyword: 0xFF
display_term: END OF FILE
column_id: 2
document_count: 40

So basically, it's not indexed any words at all. And why is the document count only 40 when there are 96 documents in the folder and table?

SQL Search :: Full Text Indexing Returning Error

Oct 28, 2015

We have an iFilter to extract text on emails and their attached files. I have encountered 5 emails that receive the following error code, but I cannot find anything on the error code: Error '0x80fc7586' occurred during full-text index population for table or indexed view '[RIA_Unindexed].[dbo].[Emails]' (table or indexed view ID '485576768', database ID '31'), full-text key value 'E11264A2-A17D-E511-80E0-005056B240B1'. Attempt will be made to reindex it.After a number of retry attempts they will fail to index.what does error code  '0x80fc7586' refer to, I have not found it.

Since the first two bytes of the error code are the severity and facility reporting the error, I stripped off that information and looked for error 0x7586 or 30086. That error reported "Too Many products".Theses emails being indexed contain attachments with large attachments that then the attachment chunks are being called for from the fdhost may result in too many chunk segments, or more likely there are some repeating words in the extracts like 4 million occurrences so right now I am testing that condition. To see if the word breaker is throwing the error.

Full-text Index Search Not Returning Expected Results

Apr 11, 2007

Hello,

My full-text search isn't working at all! I have a temporary table with full-text indexing enabled where files are scanned for social security numbers. If it has one, the user will see a message that it believes it's found a SSN and won't upload it. There is only ever one row in this table, as we overwrite the contents upon each upload.

I'm testing this search, and it doesn't work. The table has the following columns:
attachemtId (int) - primary key
fileContent (image) - contents of the file
fileExtension (varchar) - extension of the file (this is always either ".pdf" or ".doc")

I created a .doc file that simply says "ssn", and then run the following query:

SELECT * FROM TempAttachment
WHERE CONTAINS(fileContent,'ssn')

and nothing is returned! I tried the same thing with a .pdf file, and same results.

I'm not sure if this is related, but earlier I had this issue where I had to reset permissions for the directory. I've tried removing the full-text index and adding it again, but that didn't do anything. I also checked error logs on the server, and there were no messages. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you!

Full-text Query (Freetexttable) Returning Duplicate Rows

Aug 31, 2007

We have a query that uses the Full-text index on a view that's returning duplicate rows. We thought maybe it was the way we were joining, but we were able to simplify the query as much as possible and it still happens. Here's the query:

Code Snippet
SELECT *
FROM FREETEXTTABLE(vwSubtable, TitleSearch, 'Across five Aprils') AS KEY_TBL
ORDER BY RANK DESC

vwSubtable is an indexed view that contains some of the columns in our original table, and is also filtering out some rows from the main table in a where clause. There are no joins in the view.

This seems like it's about as simple a query as we could get. It will return some rows twice (ie. the same primary key row is returned back as two separate rows in the resultset). This is a problem since we're filling a datagrid, which is throwing a ConcurrencyException because the primary key is already in there.

I made sure we have SP2 installed on my SQL Server. Any ideas on what might be happening?

FullText Search Not Returning Results After Rebuilding Full Text Index

Aug 6, 2012

We have a table that is Full Text Search index enabled on one column.This table has 200 lakhs of rows(20000000) . ContainsTable() function is searching data with in these 200 lakhs of rows(20000000), if any new rows are inserted then the ContainsTable is not going to search in these recent inserted rows.

We observed when we try for a data to search. it is returning the rows till the rows that are inserted date is less than 30th of march 2012. but not searching in the records that are created after April month , if even the data we are searching is available .

TableFulltextItemCount is around 2.2 crores.

Then we done rebuilt the FT catalog Index. then the TableFulltextItemCount became 0.Again we run the containstable query ,but still it is not getting results.

As the no of rows are very more . so i am not able to show the actual rows from which the data is not coming.

the below query gives 2 results that are from actual base table

HTML Code:
select * from g_case_action_log where cas_details like '%235355%' and product_id = 38810

To search for the same above word using FTS,I have used the query as below

HTML Code:
SELECT Distinct top 50 cal.case_id,cal.cas_details From g_case_action_log cal (READUNCOMMITTED)inner join containstable(es.g_case_action_log, cas_details, ' ("235355" OR "<br>235355" OR "235355<br> ") ') as key_tbl on cal.log_id = key_tbl.[key] Where cal.product_id = 38810 ORDER By cal.case_id DESC

I have attached one sql script file for your ref that contains create logic and index schema properties

Why it is not returning results all the time.

SQL Server 2008 :: Full-text Search Suddenly Returning Error

Jul 8, 2015

This morning, when I look at my error logs, the following appears;

Msg 0, Level 11, State 0, Line 0

A severe error occurred on the current command. The results, if any, should be discarded.

Msg 0, Level 20, State 0, Line 0

A severe error occurred on the current command. The results, if any, should be discarded.

If I remove the contains() part from the SQL Stored Procedure, it stills runs. So, in other words, suddenly contains() started making the query crash.

I'm running SQL Server 2008 R2.

SQL Server Admin 2014 :: Full Text Search Not Returning Certain Results?

Oct 28, 2015

We are running SQL 2014 SP1. We are using defined Full text indexes on several tables in the database. However, on one specific set of servers, a certain search will not return any data. This exact same search works on another set of servers built identically. The first responses I'm sure will be stop list, but I have dropped and recreated the FTI multiple times with different stop lists or no stop list at all and get the same results.

The specific word being searched on is YUM. If I change the value to YUMk, it actually returns, and if I change the data to TUM it returns, but YUM does not. This exact query is working on multiple other systems, so it seems to be something environmental, but I haven't been able to pinpoint it.

Query For Returning The Last Time A Specific Job Ran Successfully

I would like to be able to query the database to see when the last time this job was ran successfully and set this date as the date to look for files newer than the last successful run date.

Could someone point me in the right direction to what tables this data is stored in on a 2005 SQL Server Database?

Cannot Load JDBC Driver Class 'com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver'

Apr 14, 2008

I have read similar posts to this, but I am still having problems.

I am trying to use connection pooling to connect to a local SQL Server 2005 database. I am running my application using
MyEclipse Enterprise Workbench. I have verified that sqljdbc.jar resides in "WebRoot/WEB-INF/lib/"

"WebRoot/WEB-INF/web.xml":
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<web-app version="2.4" xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee"
xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
xsichemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee
http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee/web-app_2_4.xsd">
<resource-ref>
<res-ref-name>jdbc/DefaultDS</res-ref-name>
<res-type>javax.sql.DataSource</res-type>
<res-auth>Container</res-auth>
</resource-ref>
</web-app>

"WebRoot/META-INFcontext.xml":

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<Context>
<Resource name="jdbc/DefaultDS"
auth="Container"
type="javax.sql.DataSource"
username="tec"
password="tec"
driverClassName="com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDrive"
url="jdbcqlserver://localhost:1433/tec;databaseName=tec;user=tec;password=test;"
validationQuery="select 1"
maxActive="10"
maxIdle="2"/>
</Context>

Classpath:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<classpath>
<classpathentry kind="src" path="src"/>
<classpathentry kind="con" path="org.eclipse.jdt.launching.JRE_CONTAINER"/>
<classpathentry kind="con" path="com.genuitec.eclipse.j2eedt.core.J2EE14_CONTAINER"/>
<classpathentry kind="lib" path="WebRoot/WEB-INF/lib/dom.jar"/>
<classpathentry kind="lib" path="WebRoot/WEB-INF/lib/jaxen-full.jar"/>
<classpathentry kind="lib" path="WebRoot/WEB-INF/lib/jaxp-api.jar"/>

<classpathentry kind="lib" path="WebRoot/WEB-INF/lib/xercesImpl.jar"/>
<classpathentry kind="output" path="WebRoot/WEB-INF/classes"/>
</classpath>

Code to connect:

import java.io.Serializable;
import java.sql.*;

import javax.sql.*;
import javax.naming.*;
public int testConnect(){
Connection conn = null;
InitialContext ctx = null;
java.sql.Statement stmt = null;

try {
ctx = new InitialContext();
Context envCtx = (Context) ctx.lookup("java:comp/env");
DataSource ds = (DataSource) envCtx.lookup("jdbc/DefaultDS");/*This is generating the Cannot load JDBC driver class... error*/
conn = ds.getConnection();
stmt = conn.createStatement();
return CONSTANT.SUCCESS;

} catch (Exception e) {
return CONSTANT.FAILURE;
}finally {
try {
if (stmt != null)
stmt.close();
if (conn != null)
conn.close();
if (ctx != null)
ctx.close();
} catch (Exception ex) {
// do nothing
return CONSTANT.FAILURE;
}
}
}

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

MS JDBC Driver Incompatibility With JDBC 3.0 Specs

Aug 8, 2006

Hi all,

We've just stumbled on a 1.0 version incompatibility with the JDBC specs.

Problem: A table with SMALLINT column. According to JDBC specs version 3.0

(p.B-179) and 4.0 (p.221)), the value should be converted to Integer type.

Unfortunatelly we get a Short object :(

Now, I remember, this case was also affecting old JSQLConnect driver from

DataDirect. Could that problem sneak to new MS driver too?

Please let me know any resolution to this problem if exists.

The issue has not been fixed in CTP 1.1 version. Any ideas if it can be fixed??

Cheers,

Piotr

Restore To Point In Time WITHOUT Full Backup?

Oct 27, 2007

Greetings, All -

Is it possible to restore to a point in time without a preexisting full backup? The situation is this:

I have a table in the DB from which an unknown number of records were accidentally deleted. The table in questio has about 2 million records; the user ran a query to delete all records from the table by accident, and cancelled the query after about 3 seconds.

The DB recovery mode is full, so I should be able to do a point in time restore to go back to just before the deletion, but unfortunately, the DB has never been backed up, so I have no backup to work from.

The DB has not been used since the incident, and is otherwise operational, but I need to recover these records if at all possible. All the instructions I've seen for this involve restoring from a full backup first, then restoring the log backup second. Is there any way for me to accomplish the same task?

In Restorc Can U Apply Logs Thru The Time Of Another Full Backup?

May 8, 2007

We run a disk backup (full) early in the evening, and then another bull backup to tape later at night. We also keep independent backups of the logs.

It seems that any full backup "resets" the ability to apply logs when restoring?

I want to be able to restore a full backup, and apply logs forward possibly more than 1 day, in case a backup is corrupted and not usable. But it seems I can only apply logs up until the time of the next full backup.

Is this true, and is there a way around this?

Analysis :: How To Calculate Full Year Using Built In Time Intelligence

May 13, 2015

I am struggling to calculate Full year in my SSAS Cube. Meaning, regardless of what fiscal year hierarchy level I am in; i need a measure aggregating from 01/01/year of current member to 12/31/year of current member.

I want to replicate it using the Year To Date below:

FY-FQ-FM is the fiscal year quarter hieararchy

I am using for built in time intelligence.

Create Member
  CurrentCube.[DimTime].[FY-FQ-FM DimTime Calculations].[Year to Date]
  As "NA";
  /*Year to Date*/
  (
    [DimTime].[FY-FQ-FM DimTime Calculations].[Year to Date],

2000 JDBC Vs 2005 JDBC

Mar 12, 2008

I've got an import app written in Java. One table I'm importing from contains 22 million records. When I run the app in a 2000 environment, I have my max heap set at 512, and the table gets imported. When I run in a 2005 environment, I have to change the max heap to 1152 or it will error out with a similiar error:

com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException: The system is out of memory. Use server side cursors for large result sets:Java heap space. Result set size:854,269,999. JVM total memory size:1,065,484,288. (<--this is with max heap at 1024)

what is the difference between the 2000 and 2005 JDBC that I have to set max heap in one and not the other?

SQL Server 2008 :: Populate One Dataset In SSRS Based On Results From Another Dataset Within Same Project?

May 26, 2015

I have a report with multiple datasets, the first of which pulls in data based on user entered parameters (sales date range and property use codes). Dataset1 pulls property id's and other sales data from a table (2014_COST) based on the user's parameters. I have set up another table (AUDITS) that I would like to use in dataset6. This table has 3 columns (Property ID's, Sales Price and Sales Date). I would like for dataset6 to pull the Property ID's that are NOT contained in the results from dataset1. In other words, I'd like the results of dataset6 to show me the property id's that are contained in the AUDITS table but which are not being pulled into dataset1. Both tables are in the same database.

Integration Services :: Perform Lookup On Large Dataset Based On A Small Dataset

Oct 1, 2015

I have a small number of rows in a dataset, Table 1.  There is a CLOB on a large dataset, Table 2.  They join on a PK.  I would like to retrieve this CLOB and add it to the data flow for Table1.  In short I want to emulate the following:

Table 1:  Small table without CLOB, 10 rows.
Table 2: Large table with CLOB, 10,000,000 rows

select CLOB
from table2
where pk = (select pk from table1)

I want this to return the CLOBs for the small number of rows in Table 1.  The PK is indexed obviously so it should be a fast look up.

Table 1 and Table 2 live on different Oracle databases.  How do I perform this operation efficiently in SSIS?  It seems the Lookup and Merge Join wont do this.
