I am attempting to write a Windows service that watches a database for uploaded files to import. When a new file is found, the corresponding SSIS package is run from the file system with variables passed through. I started development as a Windows app and copied the functionality to a service.
The app runs fine. The service does not. I get a "Failure" each time a package is executed. Everything is identical behind the scenes with the obvious exceptions that OnStart and OnStop handlers are buttons in the app. I added a script task at the beginning of one of the SSIS packages to notify me that it is even running at all. It doesn't even hit that initial task.
Again, the app will run all packages just fine. The data is imported and the results return as "Success."
The following is the code executing the package. Any help is appreciated. I've been banging my head on this one for a few days now. (Is there a tag to format a code sample?)
Dim pkgLocation As String
Dim pkg As New Package
Dim app As New Application
Dim pkgResults As DTSExecResult
pkgLocation = sPackageFolder & PackageName & ".dtsx"
pkg = app.LoadPackage(pkgLocation, Nothing)
Dim vars As Variables = pkg.Variables
vars("ImportId").Value = ImportId
vars("ProductionServer").Value = ProductionServer
vars("ProductionDatabase").Value = ProductionDatabase
vars("SourceFileName").Value = FileName
vars("SourceFilePath").Value = FilePath
pkgResults = pkg.Execute()

Hello,
I do experiment a problem when trying to install the mentionned patch on my Windows XP SP2 machine (fully patched).
Interestingly, the patch works fine for the named instance, which is a "clean" install of SQL Server 2005 SP1, while it fails on the default instance, which is a SQL 2005 SP1 upgraded in place from SQL Server 2000 SP4. Both instances are Developer editions...
The error is along the following lines:

I had installed SQL Server 2005 developer on my machine (Vista 64-bit) prior to installing Visual Studio 2005. When I installed VS, I used the default installation, which installed SQL Server Express. Soon thereafter, I started getting notifications in Windows Update about an update to SP2. However, when I try to install it, it fails with "Code 7367", and provides no other useful information. I tried downloading SQL Server Express SP2 myself but it would not let me update the existing instance on my machine. So I totally removed the instance from my machine through add/remove. However, I restarted and the update is still showing up and won't go away!! Does anybody have any ideas of getting this problem?

Hi,
I'm currently writing a windows service which will generate XML documents for FTP upload. When running the service the goal is to get records from a stored procedure, then generate the XML documents.
When running the service (lokal service account) the connection fails; instead of using the supplied connection string, it defaults to the LocalService account. How can this be solved?
Thanks in advance

Hi
I am using SQLXML 3 on a Windows 2003 server Running IIS 6.0. I used SQLXML configure IIS Support to create a virtual directry on this server to connect to MS SQL Server 2000 instance running on another windows 2003 server.
Configurations for the virtual directory are
1. Used Windows integrated authentication.
2. Created template for executing the stored procedure.
When i try to access the DB Server through a browser i am prompted to provide for Windows authentication. Even if i provide the domain user that has administrtive rights on both the server i am getting a response.
ERROR: 400.100 Bad Request
HResult: 0x80046000
Source: Microsoft SQL isapi extension
Description: Invalid connection settings: access denied
If from MMC i change the properties of the virtual directry to enable anonymous acess using the cridentials that i mentioned earlier, everything is working fine. I have been searching the net for 2 days and tried everything that i could find but still i keep getting the same error.
Any help will be highly appretiated.

Greetings,
One of my users gets the following error when he tries to connect to my SQL Server 2000 database using windows authentication via Query Analyzer:
[Micorsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server] Login failed for user '(null)'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.
Me and the server are located in Colorado and are on the NADomain. User is in London on the EURDomain. The EURDomain has a one way trust to the NADomain to use NADomain resources. I have granted access to the database to the user via Enterpise Manager as EURDomainuserid. All the literature I've read says this should be sufficient to connect but isn't. User can connect with SQL Server authentication. Users on the NADomain in Toronto can connect just fine with Windows Authentication. EURDomain user can access other file server resources in the same building as the SQL Server in Colorado.
SQL Server version is:
Microsoft SQL Server 2000 - 8.00.818 (Intel X86) Standard Edition on Windows NT 5.0 (Build 2195: Service Pack 4)
EURDomain Client ODBC version is 2000.85.1022.00 and MDAC is 2.8.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I am running SQL Server 2000 (clustered server) with Windows 2003. For some reason MSDTC is failing on distributed transactions. I can run code that begins and commits a transaction from query analyzer, or run a stored procedure from Query Analyzer with the same code in it and both work great, but if I call the stored procedure from a DTS job, then the job fails with the following error:

Installation of MSDE 2000 fails on 64-bit Windows Vista (Build 5308).
The error message is "Setup failed to configure the server. Please refer the error logs for more information". No error log can be found on the machine at the time of installation. Please let me know if anyone else has encountered this problem?
Is it possible to install MSDE 2000 on 64-bit Windows Vista(Build 5308)?
Thanks in advance.

In testing new patches, I tried Windows 2003 Server SP2 and our JDBC connections stopped working. I uninstalled SP2 and they started working again. Anyone know where the problem is?
I have already read pages of documentation, but I will keep looking. Please let me know if you know the setting that needs to be changed. I'm assuming it is a new "security enhancement" but I'm just not sure exactly where.
Thanks in advance.

i tried to install SQL Server 2000 Developer and MSDE the whole day on my Windows XP SP2.
MDAC is the latest, that come with WinXP SP2 (2.81). The installation fails at the end after 100% complete.
It says:

then it takes some time and the failure appears, saying:
"the setup programm could not configure the server. you can find more
information in the server-failure-log files and in

I have a new Windows 8.1 64-bit machine onto which I have installed everything that I had on my previous Windows 7 machine. Occasionally I like to use the Copy Database Wizard in SQL 2012 to create a copy of a database on my stand-alone laptop before I begin a new stage of development on it. However, I have failed to run it successfully on my new Windows 8 laptop, despite everything apart from the operating system being identical to my Windows 7 machine, on which I never encountered a problem.
do not suggest using backup instead of the Copy Database Wizard, as if something has worked for me perfectly for 15 years I would like to know why it does not work now. The error message that I receive is shown at the end of this message.
The log-on accounts for SQL Server Agent and SQL Server Integration Services 11.0 are NT ServiceSQLSERVERAGENT and NT ServiceMsDtsServer110 respectively, as they were on my Windows 7 machine. All services are running. Why I receive the error stating, "Arithmetic operation resulted in an overflow" for every database that I have tried to copy, including a new database with no tables that I created to see if I still received this error. As I said, the problem relates to trying to copy databases onto the same machine on which the original database exists.

Long story short -
Have two C# applications - one WinForms desktop app, the other a WinForms smart device app. Both use SQL Server Compact CE 3.5 to store data locally. Both work just fine.
Now the desktop app needs to open and update the .SDF file that is stored on the Windows Mobile device. (Device will be docked via USB.)
What format would the path to the .SDF look like that the WinForms application would need to specify in order to open it?
Thanks for reading.

Hi all,I have a Windows 2003 server, which is also a terminal server forapplication, with sql 2000 installed. My company has developed anapplication that uses SQL 2000 as its database. The application is aclient/server one. In each client computer there's a link to theapplication on the server. There is no problem with Windows 98,Windows 2000 pro, Windows xp pro clients, but the windows 95 onescannot log in to the database. The log of the application shows thefollowing error:connection error -2147467259. Cannot open database requested in login'database name'. Login fails.Till a week ago the application was running on a Windows 2000 serverwith SQL 2000 install and the W95 clients had no problem connecting tothe database, so my guess is the error has something to do withWindows 2003 server, but what'causing the error?I tried to install a newer version of MDAC (MDAC 2.5, the last versionof MDAC you can install on W95)but with no success. By the way W95clients have no problem accessing shared folder on the Windows 2003server.Any idea?ThanksMarino

We are trying to install the Standard Edition of SQL Server 2005. We already have SQL Express installed. Standard won't install and Express won't uninstall.
We have tried every suggestion we can find and some we made up. When we try to install Standard, we get to the bit where you choose what you want to install and the only thing available is workstation components.
There are so many cases of this on the Internat that I can't believe MS have not solved the issue. And I am stunned that they want to charge us more money to talk to us about how to fix something we just paid them an arm and a leg for!
What do I need to tell you to get some idea of where to go next with this?

We just moved the back end of an Access db to an SQL server and upgraded to Access 2000. A strange problem has arisen. The execution of a query in a certain function seems to be causing the function to prematurely terminate (that is, the query does not complete, and the function does not execute beyond the execution of the query). This error occurs only on workstations loaded with Windows 98. Windows 2000 users are unaffected, and the function runs uninterrupted. The query in question contains date parameters. On the SQL server, dates are enclosed in single quotes (')'s, whereas in Access they are enclosed in pound signs (#)'s. When a query is sent by Access to the SQL server, it is filtered through a program that converts the Access format to SQL-friendly code. Our theory is that this process fails to occur on the machines running Windows 98. Does anyone know why this is occuring?

We have an installation of MS SQL Server (MSDE actually) runnning on a group of Windows 2k machines. Due to IT constraints at the customer site, we are using Windows authentication, but it is all done with local user accounts, not domain accounts.
We have the same user account witht he same password locally created on each machine. This works fine with all the Win2K machines (not the best solution, but under the client's insane IT department, it's all we were allowed to do).
The problem is that we tried to add an XP machine. While we can connect to a DB running on a 2K machine from the XP workstation, the XP system will not accept connections from the 2K systems. We have done a little research and think we have found out why- the 2K systems are sending usernames for authentication, but the XP is looking for the UID- which is different on every system.
We cannot go to SQL authentication, and we cannot use Domain authentication. Is there a way to change XP to authenticate from username instead of UID?
Thanks!
Jed

Good Morning,
I've been running into a small problem. There are two people that usually create local packages to be executed by the DTS. Either my boss or I. The problem that I have been running into is, there are some local packages that will not execute when I try to run them. These packages are that my boss has created. When she runs them they work fine. But when I run them they just don't run. The only way I can run the local package is if I log in into the server and run it from there.
The error that I keep getting is:
Unspecified Error
[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data Source Name not found and no default driver specified.
What would I be able to do so that I can execute this local package from my computer?

Hey guys,
I'm trying to run a job that will convert a load of data but it keeps failing at the first step. If I run the scripts in each step on their own then they run fine. The error message I get is 'The process did not produce any output. Process exit code 1. The step failed'. I think this may be some kind of security problem but I cannot see where. The command I'm using for the first step is as follows:
OSQL -SCRLONSQL01 -DINPRO -Usysadm -Pcarpmaels -i"C:Program FilesCPA Inpro DatabaseScriptsdropinteg.sql" -o"C:conversionoutputdropinteg.txt" -n
Any pointers would be most helpful.
