Hi, i have a clean install of VB2005 Express and it's accompanying SQL Server 2005 Express (yes i'm new to .net).
After installation i ran Windows Update and it found about 40mb of updates including SP1 for SQL Server. All installed correctly up to a reboot point, after which it continued with the update process.
When it reached SP2 (for SQL Server) it tried to install but just says "Updates were unable to be successfully installed" and "The following updates were not installed: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 2 (KB 921896)".
Now i have a permanent icon in my system tray which when clicked tries to do the install with the same result.
During the attempted install my floppy drive 'buzzes' a couple of times.
I'm running an AMD3000+ (64bit) cpu with Windows 2000 Pro SP4
As mentioned in another post (on the VB Install forum) my MyDocuments folder is on a networked pc which has caused other non related problems, not sure if this could be responsible for the error. It would seem unlikely as SQL SP1 installed without any errors.
Any help appreciated.

SQL 2005 SP2 Failes repeatedly - SQLServer2005SP2-KB921896-x86-ENU
Failed install on several Win 2003 Ent Ed., 32bit servers both named and default instances, both upgrades and direct installed versions. Why would MS put out such a riddle?
Error Message is " A recently applied update, KB921892, failed to install.
Also, confoundingly, the error log for the hotfix indicates
""9.00.3042.00 while the update version is: 9.00.2047.00."
But the version display on the properties of one of the servers is:
"Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.1399.06 (Intel X86) Oct 14 2005 00:33:37 Copyright (c) 1988-2005 Microsoft Corporation Enterprise Edition on Windows NT 5.2 (Build 3790: Service Pack 2) "
Any help or comments are deeply appreciated, as the seems to be impacting DB Maintenance Plans, etc...

I am continually prompted to download & install this SP by the windows update utility but it always fails to install it.
I have XP SP2. No error msg is provided. I do not have ACT! installed. I do have Oracle 10g Expr. Ed installed. Competitive jealousy?
I found this online:
Important notes about the cumulative hotfix package
€¢ You must enable the SQL Server Management Object (SMO) extended stored
procedures and the SQL Server Distributed Management Object (SQL-DMO)
extended stored procedures before you install the cumulative hotfix package.
Where does one enable SMO & SQL-DMO?
I looked in the summary log file in the Hotfix directory and it says that the problem is
that SQL Express cant be started. See below.
I went into the SQL Configuration Mgr and tried to start it and it fails to start.
No reason given. Now what?

I understand that you must sp_detach_db and sp_attach_db to move databases to a new server. What if you want to reinstall SQL 7.0 to a different drive on the same server? My situation is this:
We have C:, D:, and E: drives. I accidentally installed SQL 7 on the C: drive instead of the D: drive. I need to reinstall on D: and I need the data. Any suggestions?

I installed SQL Server Express and uninstalled it through the control panel add/remove programs. When I try to reinstall is I get an error message that says it is already installed. I'm having the same problem with the toolkit. I saw a post describing a similar problem and tried reinstalling it through the Add Programs button but got the same result. The only SQL programs I see in Add/Remove Programs are MSFT SQL Server Native Client and MSFT SQL Server Setup Support Files (English). I tried to get to the change button on the former but it just removed the entry. How can I tidy things up so I can reinstall it? I'm running XP second edition.

Hello,
I've got a weird problem that started today on our SQL server at work. Apparently the transaction logs filled up for one DB, and SQL server decided to create 230 gb of errors on the subject, filling my D: drive. Well, I had no problem deleting the error logs and truncating the transaction logs, but my Enterprise Manager MMC will no longer function.
Search results turned up a fix that worked for most people, but not for me. So I'm pretty sure I've got no choice but to reinstall over-the-top. But, will this cause any loss of existing databases (obviously back them up first), users/security, and scheduled tasks (db backups, etc)?
I'd like to do minimal damage to this thing because there are several DB's set up from before my time, and I don't have time to manage this thing completely (as you might have guessed, no one really manages things here). Any help is appreciated.

I was having some trouble with the DTS Wizard and so I thought I'd just reinstall the whole MSSM. I used remove programs, rebooted my Vista computer and am trying to reinstall the Server Express Toolkit. It tells me that MSSM already exists on my computer (which it doesn't).
The actual screen reads:
Existing components
The following components that you chose to install are already installed on the machine.
Grayed out -- Workstation components and development tools 9.2.3042.00
How do I reinstall MSSM now? It's gone from my computer.
Thanks!

Hello all...
I am working on a project that contains several databases in SQL and many settings. The problem I am encountering is that I want to be able to update the program for all my customers. That is no problem.
The problem I am meeting is where, when the program is updated, all the settings and all the information in the databases reverts to the default values, or the values that were compiled with the new update.
I want to be able to update their program without deleting all the settings they have.
Thanks,
Andreas Renberg

I am trying to change the computer name of a machine running MSDE but I get an error when SQL Server starts. With regular SQL when I change the name of a computer I re-run setup and setup fixes this problem. MSDE can only be installed from unattended mode so I can’t rerun setup and fix the problem.
My question is "How do I change the name of a computer running MSDE with out reinstalling MSDE"

Hi
I have another question : 1) Restoring SQL Server Databases after uninstalling and reinstalling SQL Server.
Two days ago there was some problem with Norton Antivirus, so Windows 98 restored itself to a previous state. The SQL Server name was not available when I tried to start again, so I had to uninstall and reinstall SQL Server. I started a new Database just a week before this happened (the change from Access to SQL Server as I stated in the other thread http://www.dbforums.com/showthread.php?threadid=987880) and after reinstallation I could not access the Database any more - even while it is in the Data directory. I did not have any backup to restore from - I just started creating tables, so there was only the Log file created and the MDF database file. I tried to import it for a while to the new server, but as the database is not shown in the new server, it was unable to import like I hoped. So how do you restore it back to SQL Server when you have no backup and only the (undamaged) MDF database file if you only have one server? I had to recreate the Database from scratch again - I don't want it to happen again.
Regards
Corné

Hi,
I have reinstalled Office 2007 (to changre the license key)
after this, the data mining excel add-in failed to load.
the "COM add-ins" displays: "not loaded. a runtime error occurred during the loading"
reinstalling the add-in doesn't solve the problem
installing the 2008 version don't solve the issue too.
There is no other information, what can I do to solve the issue?
thanks.
