Keep A Multi-valued Parameter Cleared From Selections Until The User Select His Choice

Apr 28, 2008

I have a report that includes two multi-valued parameters.
In the Default Values section, I choose 'from query' and select dataset and value field.
In the Available Values section, I choose 'from query' select the same dataset and value field, and in the label field I select the relevant label field.
When I run the report my multi-valued parameters look like I selected the option 'select all' (all options are selected).
How can I keep the multi-valued parameters cleared from selections until the user select his choice? Thanks in advance.

Multi Value Parameter Cleared On Submit

Aug 17, 2007

I have a report created in Reporting Services that contains 5 parameters. Two are text [date] fields, and three are drop-down multi-value parameters. One is driven from the result of another, and both of those work fine. My issue is with the final multi-value parameter, which is simply a list of customers. It gets populated from the data set without a problem, and I can select from 1 to all of the options. However, on submitting the report. This one parameter gets cleared out, the report does not run, but instead waits for me to select the customers (again) and resubmit.

Occasionally, I can select a few customers and it will, in fact, run the report. However, 90% of the time it just clears the field and waits.

I can trace the database, and everything looks normal - on submit nothing is sent to the database, so it's not like there's a problem with the query. I've verified the customer table and all records look similar - I don't see any obvious data issues.

Suggestions?

Referencing A Multi-valued Parameter In A Dataset

Oct 22, 2007

Hello,
I am attempting to create a cascading parameter.
Parameter's 1 & 2 are multi-valued.
Datasets 1 & 2 supply Parameter's 1 & 2.
The values for Parameter 1 as derived from Dataset 1 are 'A', 'B', 'C', 'D' and 'E'.
The potential values for Parameter 2 will only be created if value 'C' is amongst the multiple values selected for Parameter 1.
Thus I need to write my query for Dataset 2 so that it can check the values of Parameter 1 for the existence of 'C' otherwise it returns nothing.
What is the best practice for a dataset referencing the values of a multi-valued parameter in order to generate it's resultset?

Any help is appreciated.

Setting Defaults On A Multi-valued Parameter

Jan 27, 2006

I want to set defaults for my multi-valued report parameter MONTH so that when the report starts, it automatically selects all the months prior to the current month (effectively creates a YTD report). However, using RS2005, I can't seem to figure out how to do this. I can create an IIF expression in 12 different value entries in the report parameters that returns the month based on the system date, but the first time I pass blanks, null or anything except a valid parameter, it clears the entire parameter list when the report displays.

Does anyone have any suggestions for auto-populating multiple values in a parameter at runtime where one or more of the parameter values may be empty? Checking "Allow Null" or "Allow Blank" doesn't fix this problem.

I tried to pass all the values in a single value entry on the report parameters page, but can't find the syntax that will allow this. I'm not sure if it will let you do that anyway...

Parameterizing Multi Valued Parameter In Data Set

Hi,
I am creating a data set for a ROLAP report which executes a dynamic SQL using EXEC. I am finding problems parameterizing multi-valued report parameters in the SQL being executed through EXEC.
To consider a sample code:

EXEC('select * from country where country_key in ('+@country+')')

where @country is a multi-valued report parameter.

Passing Multi-Valued Parameter To Subreport

Mar 9, 2007

I have a multi-valued parameter that I want to pass to a subreport. The values are 11, 12, 13, and 14.

So here's what I've done:

1. For the properties of the clickable field of the first report, I have gone to the Navigation tab and chosen the subreport in the "jump to report" pulldown.

2. Then I clicked on the Parameters button and added a parameter name for the multi-valued parameter I am trying to send. For the Parameter value, I have tried 11,12,13,14. I have also tried =Split(11,12,13,14)

3. On the subreport, I create a report parameter with the same name, data type is string, multi-value is checked, and the available values pulldown is populated by a query.

So I run the first report and click on the link that brings me to the subreport, but all the subreport shows is the results for 11, not 12, 13, and 14.

How can I get the second report to understand that I want it to show all the records related to 11, 12, 13, and 14? If I bypass the first report and simply use the drop-down to choose 11, 12, 13, and 14 in the subreport, it works fine. I just can't seem to figure out how to correctly have the first report tell the subreport that it wants 11, 12, 13, and 14.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Expanding The Multi-Valued Parameter Dropdown Menu

Aug 14, 2007

Hello Everyone,
I am trying to expand the multi-valued parameter menu object so I can display the selection list in a more user-friendly format since the text is fairly long. If left at the default setting then I have to scroll to the right to see the complete string(s). For a single-select parameter I can just CAST the string to CHAR(100) and the menu object will expand. However, it seems that this approach is not working for multi-valued parameter menu objects.
Is this a bug in SSRS, and is there another way to accomplish this. Please let me know.

Thank You!!!

Is there a threshold I should have to worry about?

In place of "and Description like '%' + (Select * from SplitDelimiterString(@ServerName,',')) + '%' ", if I use "and Description like '%' + @ServerName + '%' " and pass a single value, it works.

But @ServerName contains multiple values and it is dynamic (not constant).

How do I query the data?

Reporting Services :: Using SharePoint Checkbox / Choice Column In Multi-value SSRS Filter

Jul 7, 2015

In one of my datasets, my field "Team" is a SharePoint choice column that is a checkbox, so multiple entries are in it. In my Parameter, I have it as a multiple-value, and I'm specifying the values directly in both available and default. For my filter, I have [Team] IN [@Team], which is where the problem comes in. It will only filter the results of entries that only have ONE listed in Team.

For example: One entry has "Building" in Team column which SSRS is displaying. But it will NOT display entries where "Building" and "Clerks" are displayed. I believe this is because SSRS sees this as 1 line of text, so it does not just see"Building" but "Building" and "Clerks" so it will omit it.I've tried to have my parameter set to "Get values from a query" but the problem there is the drop-down is too confusing since it interprets it as "Building" and then "Building, Clerks", and then "Building, Clerks, Economic Development' as another drop down, which defeats the purpose of the filter.

how I can get SSRS to show ALL entries that contain "Building" when I choose "Building" as a drop-down choice in my parameter? Instead of only showing ones that is Building only and dismissing other teams?

I'm using SSRS with SSAS cube all in BI all 2005

Select All As Default For A Multi-value Parameter

Feb 22, 2007

Hi!

I have the following problem:

In my report I have -among others- a multi-value parameter, populated by a query (so I cannot a priori know the content of the list).

I would like my report to start without any user choice, through default parameters, so what I need is the "select all" choice selected by default. How can I achieve this?

[The only default value I am able to pass to the multi-value parameter is one of the elements populating the list, statically writing it in the "Non-queried" section of "Default values": "From query" option seems not to work for multi-valued]

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Multi-Select Parameter Issues - DataType Also?

Jan 9, 2007

I've tried several things to get my multi-select parameter to take more than one value but it seems to only take the 1st one I input. I've been working on this for days and been trying alternate methods but nothing seems to work. I think my first question is if I'm planning on using a parameter as a multi-select parameter what is the data type I should call that parameter. In my case here, the evt_key is unique and will always be 36 characters. I cant imagine in my lifetime that I'm going to have any more than 20 items in the multiselect. Am I looking over something or any other suggestions? I also attached my sp at the bottom.

Expression Problem Using A Multi-Select Parameter

Apr 24, 2007

I have a rectangle region in a report that contains a graph and a table. I want to display that list region only when the user selects a "Select All" from a multi-select report parameter. This rectangle region is used only to display summary data for All Agencies.

My report also contains a list region with graphs and tables, where I display data for each agency (my detail group), and page-break on each agency.

The problem I am experiencing occurs when using the Expression Builder for the Visibility property for my rectangle and list regions. Since a multi-select parameter is an array, I am forced to select an element in my paramater such as =Parameters!Agency.Value(0). When the user chooses "(Select All)", the first element is the first agency in the list. I don't want that.

How can I get Reporting Services to display a rectangle or list region when "Select All" is chosen, and to hide that rectangle or list region when one or more agencies are chosen from a multi-select parameter?

I have tried using Agency.Label and I've tried other expressions such as Parameters!Agency.Count = Count(Agency.Value), etc, without success.

Is There A Way To Show A User-friendly Error When User Did Not Select A Required Parameter ?

Hi all,

I was wondering whether there is a way to show the user an error when the user did not select a specific parameter.

In my case, I have two optional parameters. The user has to select either one to view the report. If the user does not select either one, I would like to show some sort of an error page indicating so. However, all i am getting is a complete blank with no report in sight. I as a developer know this is an error as a result of missing parameters, but i was wondering whether I could produce a page or direct it to a page so that the user doesn't go all horrified at an empty page ?

Passing Multiple Selections To A Stored Proc Parameter

Jan 11, 2005

Hi,

I am currently in the process of building a stored procedure that needs the ability to be passed one, multiple or all fields selected from a list box to each of the parameters of the stored procedure. I am currently using code similar to this below to accomplish this for each parameter:

CREATE FUNCTION dbo.SplitOrderIDs
(
@OrderList varchar(500)
)
RETURNS
@ParsedList table
(
OrderID int
)
AS
BEGIN
DECLARE @OrderID varchar(10), @Pos int

SET @OrderList = LTRIM(RTRIM(@OrderList))+ ','
SET @Pos = CHARINDEX(',', @OrderList, 1)

IF REPLACE(@OrderList, ',', '') <> ''
BEGIN
WHILE @Pos > 0
BEGIN
SET @OrderID = LTRIM(RTRIM(LEFT(@OrderList, @Pos - 1)))
IF @OrderID <> ''
BEGIN
INSERT INTO @ParsedList (OrderID)
VALUES (CAST(@OrderID AS int)) --Use Appropriate conversion
END
SET @OrderList = RIGHT(@OrderList, LEN(@OrderList) - @Pos)
SET @Pos = CHARINDEX(',', @OrderList, 1)

END
END
RETURN
END
GO

I have it working fine for the single or multiple selection, the trouble is that an 'All' selection needs to be in the list box as well, but I can't seem to get it working for this.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

My plan is to have the same ability as under the 'Optional' section of this page:
