Kill Cmd Process Started From SQL Server Agent

Apr 26, 2004

Hi!
I have a small problem , but it's still a problem.
I have a SQL Server Agent job that runs a .cmd file. This CMD is logged to a textfile.
This process is locked, waiting for me to type a password, but I have nowhere to type that pass.

What I want to do is kill the process that i locking the logfile, because since the logfile is locked, the job cannot be started again (and it's a scheduled job).
The jobs status is 'Not Running'.
I have solved the problem by making the cmd write to another logfile, so the schedule will work, but the file is still locked, and I don't want to restart the server since it's a productionserver.

How to I find the process that is initialized from SQL Agent, and kill it?

Thanks!

Bix

SSIS - Process Task Exit Code 4 - Via SQL Agent Scheduled Job Only - Works If Manually Started....

Oct 10, 2007

We have a Process Task component setup in a couple SSIS jobs to call a command batch file to support transfering a file via Secure FTP to other servers and the process works fine if we start the SQL Agent job manually, however when the job is started via the scheduler, it fails with an exit code of 4. Even though there is a proxy setup on the agent job, is there a different user account being invoked by the scheduler??? We're on 2005 SP1 Hotfix 1 (2153). Thanks

Some more info...have found that if we leave a login session open on the server (login is the proxy account) the process works. It appears the issue is associated with a need to render/create a command window for the command line/batch process to run in and without an active windows session it fails....would seem to be that a product setup to run on a server in a batch mode would be able to work without this...is this the case? if so, how? Thanks.

You Cannot Use KILL To Kill Your Own Process. Why?

Mar 24, 1999

I'm trying to kill a bunch of processes in SQL 6.5 and I can't. I'm running the only machine with SQL tools installed on it (the server) and it won't let me kill them. I try the GUI screens and the Kill statement in ISQL_w. Is there any way around this?

I've stopped the SQL Server and rebooted the NT Server. Is there anyway I can get rid of these processes. They are locking some tables and keeping me from inserting data within my code. Very frustrating.

Thanks

Not Able To Kill The Process

Mar 27, 2001

Hi all,

I have SQL Server 7.0 with SP2 on it and I am not able to kill one of the SPID's who is running a SELECT Statement.
When I saw in the current activity in EM I see the STATUS as ROLLBACK, COMMAND as SELECT, APPLICATION as MS SQLEM-DATATOOLS, WAITTIME as 5375 and WAITTYPE as CXPACKET..

I also tried to reboot the machine of that particular SPID , but it still shows up in the Enterprise Manager.

Can anyone tell me how to kill this process and how to get around this Problem

Any Ideas,
Thanks in Advance

How To Kill Process

Apr 5, 2001

SQL Server 2000.

Hi!
After I killed maintenance process (57) in the current activity window and run ‘kill 57 with statusonly’ I got message: ‘SPID 57: Estimated rollback completion: 100%. Estimated time remaining: 0 sec.’
When I reopened current activity window I still see that SPID 57 is runable.
Then I run select*from
sysprocesses where SPID = 57
It also reports that process status is runable.
What is the problem?
How can I remove (and should I) this record from masterdb.
Thank you,
Natalia

Kill Process

Oct 4, 2006

Hi Peepz,

Im just a newbie using SQL Server anyway i noticed in my present company that most of the process/Stored Procedure that are being executed or connection that was being made by the application is not being terminated or disconnected. they use very large IO and CPU resources making the server slow or sometimes hang.(well that was my diagnostics). i try to kill them one by one but it seems endless process is redundant. to cut my problem short im thinking of having an application that would automatically kill all this unwanted process but ofcourse i should specify the parameter which process to kill. is this possible? i saw the KILL statement in the online books but it seems uncomplete with what i wanted to accomplish.

Thanks all

Unable To Kill Process

Dec 23, 2000

Hi,

I'm having a problem killing a process in SQL 7.0. I have a spid that has been around for a couple of weeks! I try to remove that process by right clicking and selecting 'Kill Process' but nothing happens. The process originated when I deleted large amounts of data from a logging table. NOw I can not remove the process. I'm concerned that this might indicate the database is getting corrupted.
Any suggestions?

Thanks in Advance

Waiting For Ole Db Resource And Cannot Kill Process In KILLED/ROLLBACK

Feb 21, 2007

I have a query to refer to the data source in as400 with ODBC 'iSeries Access for Windows ODBC data source' and a linked server with 'oledb for ODBC driver' in SQL2005 (9.0.2047)

Now we got 2 problems,

1. When we refer to the view with openquery e.g select * from openquery (abc, 'select * from dates')

This query continue to run without ending. In Activity monitor, we found that it is waiting for resource ole db

2. Since the process continue to run without ending, I kill the process in activity monitor or by command 'kill'. It shows the status 'KILLED/ROLLBACK' and it returns 'SPID 197: transaction rollback in progress. Estimated rollback completion: 0%. Estimated time remaining: 0 seconds.' in 'kill 197 with STATUSONLY'

In problem 1, I found some ppl encountered the same problem (waiting for resource oledb) with openquery to different data source e.g. vfp, oracle.

In problem 2, we can't restart the sql server for clear the unkillable process

Kindly advise. Thanks in advance.

What can I do? Why it doesn't work?

Merge Agent Not Started - Start Synchronizing Disabled

Aug 6, 2006

i'm trying to setup a merge replication between the default istance and a named one of the same machine, using the same domain account for both publisher and subscriber.
when it comes to "start synchronizing" (right click on the subscriber merge agent), i found it disabled, just like it is running, but it is not (the icon shows a stop sign, even refreshing.)
The state is "disactivated". When i stop sync and start it again things don't change.
If i setup a "pull" subscription, i get a sequence of a message like "interface not supported" (a translation from italian "Interfaccia non supportata"): after 10 attempts, it stops.
i cannot find this error searching in internet, could you address me?
thanks in advance!

Running A Ssis Package In Sql Server Agent With Execute Process Task

Apr 1, 2008

Hello

I'm trying to run a task that executes a script file (cmd). When i run it with in bids with my own users (domain admin) it works. When i start a cmd prompt and try to run the cmd file directly from the network location where it is it works (with my own rights and with the sql server agent user).

Now when i try to run in from smss > agent jobs > job and run job it never completes. Im not getting any error message either it just keeps on running on the step ??? It seems like a rights issue, but the account running the sql server agent is able to execute the cmd file directly from the command prompt.

There are no errors in any error logs anywhere and no error is displayed...

Ps. Im running the job step as a integration service pacgake.

Execute Process Task Error In SQL Agent

Mar 10, 2008

Hi

I am having trouble running a package in SQL Agent. The step involves zipping up a number of files using SQL Agent. I know in the error message it states "Access is denied" but I can run the package manually in BIS. Also I have applied a SQL proxy to the step using my own credentials which have rights to the file location, but still no luck.

I get the following error:

Error: 2008-03-10 09:04:02.04 Code: 0xC002F304 Source: Call ZipFiles Batch Execute Process Task Description: An error occurred with the following error message: "Access is denied". Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Thanks

SQL 2012 :: Execute Process Task Error When Running Under Agent?

Jul 11, 2014

I have an execute process task in SSIS that executes a .Net program. When this is running as a Sql Server Agent job in Sql Server 2005, I have no issues. The operating system of the server is Windows Server 2003 R2.

Now I'm trying to get this working as a Sql Server Agent job in Sql Server 2012. The operating system of the server is Windows Server 2012 R2. And now I have issues.

If I run the SSIS package in Visual Studio debug mode, I have no issues! It's only when I try running the same package from a Sql Server Agent job that there are problems. The .Net program errors out with a System.TypeInitializationException.

I thought this might be an issue running the .Net program as 64 bit so I changed the agent setting to 32 bit. That didn't work. I thought it might be an issue with authorization (since I can run it in debug with me as the user). I put in a class in the program that changes the user through impersonation. That didn't work either.

Since I don't have a full-blown version of Visual Studio on the database server, I haven't been able to capture the error and debug the program to see where it is blowing up.

why something like this would work in Sql Server 2005/Windows 2003 but not in Sql Server 2012/Windows 2012 when run as an agent job? And on top of that, why would it work when I run it manually in debug mode but not when run as an agent job?

Execute Sql Server Agent Job Task - Job Immediately Returns Success... However Agent Job Is Still Running???

Nov 30, 2006

when I run a package from a command window using dtexec, the job immediately says success.
DTExec: The package execution returned DTSER_SUCCESS (0).
Started: 3:37:41 PM
Finished: 3:37:43 PM
Elapsed: 2.719 seconds

However the Job is still in th agent and the status is executing. The implications of this are not good. Is this how the sql server agent job task is supposed to work by design.

Can Get Server To Release A Lock Without Using Kill Command

Aug 26, 2015

Anyway I want to know if there is a way to get SQL Server to release a lock without using the kill command. My reason for asking is because this morning I was investigating some deadlocks and thought it would be nice if SQL Server upon identifying a deadlock instead of killing the victim SPID would simply force the victim SPID to release the lock causing the deadlock so that the other SPID could continue and the victim would simply have to wait longer. That lead me to wonder if there was a T-SQL command or DBCC to force SQL Server to release a lock that I specify.

So, any way to get SQL Server to release a lock without using the kill command?

Server Re-started

Apr 19, 2007

We got a cluster server with Win2K3 sp1 with SQL 2K sp4, the server just re-start without failover, can see the following on the application log:

[sqsrvres] CheckQueryProcessorAlive: sqlexecdirect failed
[sqsrvres] printODBCError: sqlstate = 01000; native error = 2746; message = [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]ConnectionRead (recv()).

It cause both instances on the server get restarted itself, did a search on the net and not much luck with it. Got some people saying its because of the clsuter admin can't query SQL and it just fail itself. And its using Name pipe rather then TCP/IP, so by putting an alias there will get the problem solved. But I would like to be sure. Does anyone have that issue before? And found a solution?
