How To Launch A SSIS Package From VB Or Whatever

May 18, 2006

Dear all,
I am looking for any snippet of code where you can launch a SSIS package by DMO or VB 6.0. I read that it was posible to call dts.runtime assembly from VB 6.0 but at first it might be converted or something like that.
Issue comes from the moment that we€™ve got an ASP 3.0 scheduler for hundreds of dts and now we have to migrate them to sql25k.
Thanks in advance for any info regarding this,

How To Launch Programatically A SSIS Package?

May 22, 2006

Dear all,

I wrote this post others times but the answer did not satisfied so that I'd like to know if really anyone has ever used or experienced with this possibility. No by .Net language rather than Vb 6.0 or ASP or even instanciacing DMO library.

According this link http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=817248 it seems possible but I haven't idea if possible keeping in mind that it has been made by yourself no for others... So that, I mean, these assemblies comes along with Sql Server 2005 installation.

Thanks a lot for your support,

SQL Server 2005 Standard Launch Event Edition

Oct 5, 2006

I have a Question about this Version!

Is this true that only one Person can query the Server at the same time? ( 1CAL Lizense)

I wrote a .Net Appllication and now the Appllication need acces to the Server to Query Tables.
In the "Rush Hour" it is possible that more than 100 Person make Querys from that Application to the SQL Server at the same time.

I don´t understand the CAL Lizens because the SQLServer Express allows up to 20 connection!?
The SQLExpress is for free and allow more connections than a paid Version?
Or is a difference between connection ( through the Appllication) and Connection through the Management Studio ?

Thanks for HELP!!

Creating SSIS Package Event Handlers

Sep 11, 2007

I would like to create an event handler that would catch any errors that result from a sys.<table> not existing. The package is designed to run on both SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 2005 and when I query sys.<tables> there is an error when the query is run on SQL Server 2000. I just need a good starting point...I would like something that when the server isn't 2005 it just skips the server and doesn't fail the package and doesn't get counted towards the max error count. Thanks for any help.

SSIS OnError Calling Package Level Event Handler Twice..little Help Here!

Oct 6, 2006

My project currently has task which have their own individual event handlers that get called onError (setup event messages). I also have a package level event handler that performs a generic task (sending events to the windows eventviewer) In the package level event handler there is a script task that decides on a boolean variable whether to "Success" or "Failure" to different task. When I fail one task of the main control flow, the task level event handler runs, then the package level event handler runs, and then it also runs again for some unknown reason. The second time it runs it picks up the value of a variable set in the variables window. However, I change this value at runtime to the value from a database. I can't understand why it would run the second time, and if it did run why it would have the value from the variables window and not the value that is set in memory. It's like the event handler runs with the value from memory and then runs and picks the values back out of the variables window, replacing the db values and re-runs.

Maybe the package itself is failing all together and then re-runing the package level event handler?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Create A SP That Will Launch A DTS Package

Oct 10, 2006

Hi all. How can I create a Stored Procedure that will launch a DTS package that I have already built dynamically ?

I have a string already built and I need to put it in a SP because my application is php (linux) and the database is SQL Server on a Windows machine.

I will use php to execute the stored proc, which is the only way to access it.

My string looks like this :
C:Progra~1Micros~380ToolsBinnISQL.EXE -S [MyServer] -U [Username] -P [Password] -Q "ISQL_Batch 'D:DDFIImporteIMPICAFI.bat [user] [Schema] [Pwd] '" -n -d [database]

(Words in [] are only to show that I will put other values)

Thanks

How To Launch Package From A Windows Service

May 20, 2006

I'm developing a Windows Service to watch for an e-mail and then launch a package.  It extracts some parameters from the e-mail that I then need to pass to the package.  What is the best way to launch the package from the service?  Should I run it in a new thread? I don't want the service to have to wait for the package to complete.  How would I pass the parameters?  Should I use dtexec?  If the service fails or is stopped and the package is still running, it would terminate the package also, correct?  Any way to avoid that?  Thanks.

DTS & Security: Permissions Required To Launch Package

Jan 9, 2001

I have prepared several DTS packages which must be launched by a custom external application. What is the best way to provide access to this application? What are the minimum security requirements? Currently, they are local packages; I understand that some utility is offered by saving them as .DTS files, but I don't know the pros & cons. Are there advantages to using the Repository? The app should be able to do its work from a different box on the same network as the server. (Ultra-super-secret security isn't an issue, but I don't want to have give our developers sa-level access unless necessary.)

How To Launch Package From Client Machine, Display Progress And Finally Results?

Oct 4, 2006

Please help. I'm completely new to SSIS, and I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction(s).

I am developing a winforms client app, and I need to be able to provide the user with the ability to import data in CSV format into our application's database.

I'd like to use SSIS if possible, as long as what I am trying to do isn't near impossible.

I'm thinking of a UI where the user can specify a flat file (CSV) to upload and be processed by an SSIS package on a remote database server.

This package will be responsible for validating the CSV file and inserting data into the database as appropriate.

Is there a way I can:

launch an SSIS package remotely, from a winforms app on the client machine that is not running SQL server (preferably asynchronously) -- and pass it some parameters, including the import file itself
(optionally) provide progress feedback to the client pc to let them know it is being processed
display a nice SSRS report on the client upon completion that tells them exactly what the success/failure of the import was (how many rows processed, which ones failed and why, etc)

Any helpful examples, links, etc would be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Same Event Handler For All The Tasks In The Package

Feb 12, 2007

Hi,

We want to develop an error handling process that will log the errors into multiple destinations (eventlog, text files or sql database) depending upon a variable set in the package. Also we want that this errror handling process should be initiated by all the tasks in the package on error.

Is this possible? Can the same event handler be called from multiple tasks in the package? Also in the event handler can we call another package which actually does the error handling. This way we have only one place to change our error handling process in case required.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Package Level OnError Event Handler Not Firing (as If Not There)

Mar 26, 2008

Hi all,

I have a package on which i've applied a package level OnError event handler. The OnError event handler includes a Script Task (that builds up a string of errorCode, errorDescription, MachineName etc...) and a WebService Task that calls a webservice to send an email including the built up string from the script task in the body of the email. This has worked fine in one package where i've applied it but for some reason in a second package the existence of an OnError package level event handler seems to be completed ignored. I'm causing various package object to fail but the OnError handler never fires. I know the obvious answer is find what's different between the two packages but i can't see that any is different (in relation to package level OnError event handling).

Has anyone else come across this? Any suggestions?

Thanks

M.

SSIS Event Logging ...

Apr 3, 2008

When running SSIS packages, the package execution information is logged in the SYSDTSLOG90 table which contains the following columns.

id
event
computer
operator
source
sourceid
executionid
starttime
endtime
datacode
databytes
message

After executing a package, I found that the values in the "executionid" column are the only ones that are unique. Can we use this to determine what package was run? We are trying to architect a solution that would allow us to determine as to how long a package ran, if it ran into warnings / errors etc., We can easily accomplish this by having our own table and using Global variables within packages, we could insert / update this table. Appreciate any help.

Integration Services :: Event Handler Data Flow Fails When Running Package?

Sep 25, 2015

I have created an event that contains a Data flow tasks with OLE DB source & Excel Destination.

This event is executed/triggered based on an execute SQL task failure in the control flow Sequence container.

However, when I execute the Data Flow task of the Event Handler, it runs successfully but fails when I execute the whole package.

I get the below error message:

[OLE DB Source [21]] Error: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_CANNOTACQUIRECONNECTIONFROMCONNECTIONMANAGER.  The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "TK463DW" failed with error code 0xC0202009.  There may be error messages posted before this with more information on why the AcquireConnection method call failed.

I have tried setting the property 'DelayValidation' to 'True' on all the Control Flow and Data Flow tasks on the package and on the Event Handler, but still I could not fix this. Not sure What I am missing.

I'd like to take it one step further. Whenever the package ends whether cancelled or finished normally; I'd like to write to my logging table COMPLETED_ABNORMALLY on cancelled or COMPLETED_NORMALLY on a normal finish of the package. I'm not sure where to begin with this process. I'd like to utilize a simple method and event handler.

OnInformation' cannot to implement OnInformation' because of it doesn't exists on the Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.IDTSEvents'

I suppose that I must add an overload method but how?

SSIS Event Handler Not Working

Jan 11, 2008

Hi

I'm still fairly new to some of SSIS's enhanced funtionalities, one of them being Event handlers. I have tried creating a simple package, that simply contains a SQL Execute task that basically creates a simple table. Now i have then added a OnPostExecute even handler as a test which basically runs a script task that simply shows a msgbox. I have gone to execute the package, however after the completion of the SQL Execute task, nothing happens, the even handler doesnt get fired for some reason, i switch to the even handler page and the script task has not been executed. It is like this for every event handler i have tried, even the OnError event. Could this be a problem with my installation of SSIS or have i done something wrong?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as i have done SSIS training and to create an event handler was never this hard!

SSIS Transactions In Event Handlers

Dec 4, 2007

I have an SSIS Package that loads data to a SQL Server table and also logs package statistics along the way with individual SQL statements. In the event of failure, I want the data loaded to the target table rolled back but I want the statistics updates saved to the database. My package consists of several Execute SQL tasks that handle the logging and a Data Flow task that loads the data to the target table along with a couple of event handlers to handle errors. I have the Transaction Option property on the Package set to Required, to Supported on the Data Flow, and to Not Supported on the Execute SQL tasks and the OnError Event Handlers.

When we run the package (and cause an error) everything runs fine until it gets to the On Error event handler for the Data Flow task. This task hangs and never finishes. If we set the Transaction Option for the Event Handler to Supported (allowing it to enlist in the parent transaction) it works but the updates that it makes roll back along with the data from the Data Flow.

Is there a problem with having Event Handlers stay out of a transaction started by the parent package?

Any help would be appreciated.

SSIS Event Handler And Checkpoint Files

Mar 23, 2007

Has anyone used Checkpoint files in conjunction with the OnError Event Handler ? I'm having a problem getting the OnError event to fire when the SSIS package reruns with the Checkpoint file.

The first run of the package (without a checkpoint file) works fine. The error occurs, the OnError event handler is called, the package stops and the checkpoint file is created.

When the package is restarted is goes to the correct spot (where the error occured) using the checkpoint file, then it throws an error within the For Loop container and does not call the OnError event handler. The OnError event handler is setup on the For Loop container. The ForLoop performs three loops. Each one of these loops creates an error. Not one of these errors within the three loops will trigger the OnError event handler...

Any help would be appreciated.

thanks

WMI Event Watcher Task Continual Firing Event When Not Triggered

Apr 8, 2008

I have been testing with the WMI Event Watcher Task, so that I can identify a change to a file.
The WQL is thus:

SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent within 30
WHERE targetinstance isa 'CIM_DataFile'
AND targetinstance.name = 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Backup\AdventureWorks.bak'

This polls every 30 secs and in the SSIS Event (ActionAtEvent in the WMI Task is set to fire the SSIS Event) I have a simple script task that runs a message box).

My understanding is that the event polls every 30 s and if there is a change on the AdventureWorks.bak file then the event is triggered and the script task will run producing the message.
However, when I run the package the message is occurring every 30s, meaning the event is continually firing even though there has been NO change to the AdventureWorks.bak file.

Am I correct in my understanding of how this should work and if so why is the event firing when it should not ?
