Library Catalog Application - Check Out/In Feature

Jan 22, 2008

I am creating an application that acts as a catalog for all the reference books available in our IT Department.

I've created the default page which has search capability, a details page in which you can click on a title and then view a description of the book.

Now I need to create the Check-Out button which will allow the user to "check out" the book for use.  This will reduce the inventory of the book in the SQL database by 1, and store the check-out user and date in a SQL table that I've already created, called records.  There will also be a Check-In button that will allow the user to check the book back in once they've returned it.

This is my first time updating data from an application, any reference recommendations to get me started?

Data Access Application Block: Using In Class Library

Nov 16, 2007

I'm trying to use the Data Access Application block, and am having some issues with configuration. I am using it in a class library, and it seems that with v 3 you need to configure the DAAB first, making changes to the configuration file. However, in a class library, I do not seem to have the web.config or app.config file to change. So where do I need to store the configuration settings?
 Thanks,
Paul

SQL 2012 :: Catalog Doesn't Have Option To Give Read Access To SSIS Catalog To View Package Run Reports

Oct 23, 2014

"SSIS 2012 Catalog doesn't have option to give read access to SSIS Catalog to view package run reports" ... Any luck allowing power developers / operators access to READ the SQL 2012 SSIS Execution Reports without granting them SSIS_Admin or Sysadmin?

According to this link posted back in 2011 (w/ Microsoft's feedback in Nov 2011: "We’re closing this issue as “Won’t Fix.” At this point the bug does not meet our bar for resolving prior to SQL Server 2012 RTM. As we approach the SQL Server 2012 release the bar for making code changes gets progressively higher." URL....Regarding Permissions to SSIS Catalog, here are the findings. We can give access in three ways:

1. READ Access – We can provide a user db_datareader access. With this the user can see the objects within the SSIS catalog database, but cannot see the reports.

2. SSIS_ADMIN – Add the user to this database role in SSISDB. With this the user can view the reports. But it also provides them privileges to modify catalog information which is not expected. We can add it using below script EXEC sp_addrolemember 'ssis_admin' , 'REDMONDPAIntelAnalyst'

3. SYSADMIN - Add the user to this server role. This will make the user an admin on the SQL server. This is not intended. Is there any method available which will have provision to give read only access to see SSIS Catalog package execution reports and not having modify Catalog access.

Check Connection From C# Application To SQL Server.

Jun 28, 2007

Hey anyone,
I got a problem to check a connection whether it is established or not from my C# Application to SQL Server.
I am developing my application which can run in 2 modes:
1. Online: There must be a connection to SQL Server to get new data updates.
2. Offline: I dont need a connection to SQL Server. I set a timer to tick every 5 seconds and it will check the connection with SQL Server and my problem here: (this is my code)1 public static bool checkConnection()
2 {
3 SqlConnection conn = new SqlConnection("mydatasource");
4 try
5 {
6 conn.Open();
7 return true;
8 }
9 catch (Exception ex) { return false; }
10 }

 Yes, it works but my application seems to wait about >3 seconds to get the return "False"; I tried to add "Connect TimeOut=1" in my Connection String, but the problem is still there.
I dont know whether there is a faster way to check the connection to SQL server which is established or not.
Thank you very much,
Joesy

Feature Or Bug?

Jul 12, 2006

Service Broker will let you create two services with the same name (one with contract and another without)

CREATE SERVICE [Order Msg Recieve] AUTHORIZATION [dbo] ON QUEUE [dbo].[Order Return Msg Queue]

CREATE SERVICE [Order Msg Receive] AUTHORIZATION [dbo] ON QUEUE [ODS].[Order Return Msg Queue] ([OrderSubmission])

When you delete the service....

drop service [Order Msg Recieve]

It will only drop the first one. In the BOL there is no syntax for telling it to delete the second one, however you can drop it from SQL Management Studio.

I stumbled over this by accident. Just FYI

Db Library

Jul 5, 2000

Hi!
When I use dbrpcparam to add empty string as a parameter to a stored
prosedure, as a result I have NULL, but I need to get an empty string.
It seems to me the DB library for C does not allow to pass an empty
string as a parameter of a stored procedure. It gets converted to NULL. ??
Do you know how I can avoid the problem?
Thank you.

Sql Server Feature Or Bug?

Aug 8, 2007

Try this in sql server 2005:
select COALESCE(a1, char(254)) as c1 from
(select 'Z' as a1 union select 'Ya' as a1 union select 'Y' as a1 union select 'W' as a1) as b1
group by a1
with rollup order by c1
select COALESCE(a1, char(255)) as c1 from
(select 'Z' as a1 union select 'Ya' as a1 union select 'Y' as a1 union select 'W' as a1) as b1
group by a1
with rollup order by c1

The only difference is that the first one uses 254 and the second one uses 255. The first sorts like this:
WYYaZþ
The second one sorts like this:
WYÿYaZ
Is this expected behavior?

DTS Bug? (or Random Feature?)

Jul 16, 1999

Has anyone noticed that if you created DTS package and try to
change connection properties (i.e. change DSN or redirect
DTS to different server or Database), as soon you click OK
it does not save new password and hence does not work
anymore. In my case to move Database from Development to
Production server I would have to recreate all DTS packages.
Is there any way around it?

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Need Help With Report Feature

Nov 15, 2007

Hi!
I am having a terrible time with the report feature. First of all, my queries through it do not match my queries thru SQL server 2005 Express Management. When I enter my fields, through the auto query function, it moves them. When I try to put them where I think they belong (by editing the SQL code, my queries get all messed up).

Is there a way to import my SQL query and run it through the report feature?

I am using windows XP Pro
Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 version 8.0.50727.42
Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services Designers version 9.00.2047.00

Thank You so much......

SQL Database Library??

Sep 29, 2006

This is not an actual question but more of a topic that I cannot find any information on and that may be because there is nothing about it.Basicly is there any SQL Database Table Libraries out there?......For instance I am creating a tedious database table right now which includes the names of all the countires (around 200 ) its simply used for a registration process where a users country information gets saved in the database...Since the worlds country names do not get changed very much is there a sql database table out there thats pre-made so I dont have to sit here and enter in all 200 or so countries by hand?....this is what I mean by database table libraries, it can basicly include all common things a website may use like a province/state dropdown list (pre-made database table), the worlds countries (again pre-made database table) and so on....If someone can come to my rescue and help me find some information on this it would be great cause well It's probably going to take a bit to enter in every country name, then the same for all the provinces/states, then bind them somewhat so when a user clicks on canada the provinces/states for canada are only avalible in the next list.Thank You All.Adam

A Feature Available In Oracle, Is It Available In Sql Server?

Aug 14, 2004

Theres a feature in oracle that allows you to modify tables, colums, values and the data from its enterprise console the same way that you can in sql server. In oracle however theres a button called 'show sql' that allows you to see and copy/paste the resulting sql for the changes made via the console.

I would imagine that sql server has a similar option. The reason i ask is that i would like to more fully learn how to do this through the query analyser and get more familiar with sql involved and I would be able to do this if I could see the resulting sql from enterprise manager.

Hope this makes sense.

I did find something in sql server called 'generate sql' but this doesnt update during changes you make automatically.

Thanks
