URGENT - Link Server 2005 To 2000
Jul 18, 2006I've a database in 2000 which needs to be accessed from 2005 via linkedserver. I've tried the GUI options and it is failing. One thins is that ourboth servers have hyphen('-' not underscore, could that be a problem) in thenames, like 2k-srv and 2k5-srv as hosts, but the instances are default.Can anyone give me the steps please.TIANasir

May 1, 2001I have a Sql Server cluster set up in an active/active configuration. It is running NT4.0 SP6 and SQL Server 7.0. The problem is that node 2 has failed over to node 1 and whatever I try, I cannot get node 2 to failback. I think I have tried just about everything. Any SQL Cluster gurus out there ? I think I may be going a little bit mad. Last week I created a database on SQL Server. I then created an access database on a different windows server, and set up an ODBC connection on that windows server to my database on SQL Server. I then set up linked tables within Access to point to my tables on the SQL Server. I'm fairly sure that I opened those links at the time and managed to display and update the data from Access. However I have come to this today and when I go into the Access database and attempt to open one of the links I get a connection failed message. When I check the ODBC connection on the windows server it is fine. Does anyone have any ideas on this? I really need this to be working by tomorrow to do a demo, and I'm so convinced it worked last week I am a little bemused!

Need Help With Update Link In FormView - URGENT

Somehow i am stuck at a very basic step. I have two pages -
1. DomainList.aspx which just displays all the records from the Domains table.2. DomainAddEdit.aspx which displays the selected record in FormView(Edit Mode) with two link for Update and Cancel.
The Update link in the FormView does nothing on the first click. It just reloads the page with the new data I entered. If I click again on the Update link, it throws me an error:
"Cannot insert the value NULL into column 'DNS', table 'MSInteractive.dbo.Domains'; column does not allow nulls. UPDATE fails.The statement has been terminated. "
I have no clue why all this is happening. I have spent more than two days on this and this is very very frustrating.
Just to mention, I haven't written any code for this. Its developed all using the VWD tools available. I have posted this message earlier but haven't got any response. I am sure most of you guys must have been doing these steps everyday. So, please post your thoughts.

We are having SQL SERVER 7.0 on NT cluster.We have a problem registring server with enterprise manager. Actually it was fine for some time. But actually today to install servicepack we unclustered.It went with some errrors. Actualy we tried to recluster the servers .Every thing is fine but intially at the end it said that it can't connect to the virtual server host name.Now every thing seems to be fine but when we try to register the server with EM we can't do it now.But by using IP address we can register the server.We are able to connect by using SQL Query analyzer.Can anyone suggest me any thing.i greatly appreciate your help.

Sep 7, 2006Hey. I've 2 nodes in this activeactive cluster. Both of them have 20gb memory. Right now, both are configured to use 12gb each. Is that the right way to configure it? I was thinking we'll have IO issues if we ever failed over to a server. I've to migrate to SQL 2005 and needed some help regarding using accounts.
Should I use the same account for the cluster service and the SQL Server/Agent service? If not what are the permissions I've to give to the cluster service account in SQL? I've a cluster with 2 nodes. What permissions should the SQL account be given on the box? Should it be a local admin or when installing, I give it the account and let SQL worry about giving permissions to the box?

Urgent - Analysis Service Install On An Existing Sql 2005 Cluster - Please Help

I am having an existing sql 2005 cluster on an active passive cluster. I need to add analysis service to this as a new component. I am having enough space available in the cluster disks. Following are my queries,
1) do i need a new virtual ip and virtual server name for the analysis services ?
2) do i need a seperate cluster resource group for analysis services with an additional disk added ?

We are planning to upgrade the SQL Server in our production environment from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2005. This is a 4 Node cluster environment with 3 Databases on 3 Virtual instances. The main requirement is to achieve this with no/minimal downtime.
Could you please suggest or direct me to any documentation for the best practices used to upgrade such an environment?

We're upgrading a SQL Server 2000 cluster (Active/Passive) running on Windows 2000 Server to a SQL Server 2005 Cluster running on Windows Server 2003. We can't purchase new hardware and we have no spare hardware. We also need to move from Windows 2000 Server to Windows 2003 Server at the same time. We want to keep downtime to a bare minimum.
What we were thinking was the following steps... Anyone try this?
1. Break the link between the servers.
2. Install a fresh copy of windows 2003 server on one side along with SQL Server 2005. While this step is running, the active node would still be live on Windows 2000 Server and SQL Server 2000 serving our customers.
3. Restore a copy of a backup from the active production side to the node we're upgrading and at that point we would bring the active node down, switching the active node to be the newly upgraded server.
4. As a final step, the old active node would now have the link to it broken, we would install a fresh copy of windows 2003 server on it and sql server 2005. At this point we would bring it back into the cluster and the cluster would be complete again.
Thoughts?

Need your help and guidence for doing upgrading SQL Server 2000 Cluster to SQL Server 2005 Cluster.
Let me explain my current environment.
1. Currently SQL Server 2000 Cluster environment is running on Windows 2000 Server we need to upgrade this to SQL Server 2005 on Windows 2003 Server. >>> Production environment.
My Plans:
1. On Testing Environment Install SQL Server 2000 cluster on Windows 2003 Server and do a restore of databases from the produciton environment.
2. Upgrade In-Place from SQL Server 2000 Cluster to SQL Server 2005 Cluster.
My doubts
1. Can i install SQL Server 2000 Cluster on Windows 2003 Server. Is it possible or not.
Please advise me and correct my steps.

Access2003 Cannot Link (but Excel2003 Can Link) To Tables In Access97 Database
Feb 20, 2008I have created an Access2003 project (existing data) that links to external data. First I connected to a SQL Server 2000 database. Success. Then I tried to set up a Transact SQL data connection to a legacy MDW-secured Access97 database. (A third-party VB6 application goes against it, and we don't have the source code, so we cannot upgrade it.)
The Transact SQL link tests OK but I cannot select any of the tables or queries from the list presented. However, with the same credentials, I can use these same objects in Excel 2003.
When setting up the link in Access2003, I specify JET 4.0 OLE DB Provider, I enter the MDW file on the All tab, a username and a password on the Connection tab where I browse to the MDB file, and specify Shared Deny None on the Advanced tab. When I test the connection, it tests OK ("Test connection succeeded"). Yet on the "Select the Database and Table/Cube which contains the data you want" dialog, "(Default)" appears in the grayed-out dropdown. Then, beneath that dropdown, there is a grid with Name and Description columns. The grid contains query names but the grid is not enabled. The list of queries is this table is grayed out. Neither of the scrollbars works.
BUT... if I use the SAME username and password in Excel2003, and specify the same MDW, there is no problem working with these same database objects in the legacy Access97 database. WHAT IS DIFFERENT ABOUT THE WIZARD IN EXCEL THAT ALLOWS IT TO SUCCEED AND THE WIZARD IN ACCESS THAT CAUSES IT TO FAIL HERE? In Excel, the list of available providers says Microsoft Access Driver, not JET 4.0 OLE DB Provider.

Cannot Link To SQL Tables Using ODBC Link Table In Access 2003
Feb 3, 2006When trying to link to an SQL table in Access 2003, the software appears to be malfunctioning.
The sequence of events is File - Get External Data - Link Tables - Files of Type: ODBC Databases().
The Problem: On two of my computers, the select data source window does not pop up, preventing me from linking to any ODBC data source.
Observations: This function has worked normally in the recent past and works on other computers running Access 2003. One difference between the computers working and non-working computers is Norton Antivirus 2006 (recent upgrade).
Has anyone experienced anything like this? What's going on?

Jul 17, 2000I am trying to upgrade a SQL Server 6.5(Cluster) to SQL Serevr 7.0 (Cluster)..I already have an intsllation of 7.0(On a Cluster),so this means that 6.5 and sql 7 are on seperate cluster's ,if i try to upgrade from 6.5 Cluster to 7.0 Cluster is asks me to uncluster 6.5 and 7.0 is this correct ,assume i cannot break the cluster then what???.. what is the best way i can achieve this functinality.....

URGENT.Sql Server Does Not Recognise MAPI , Or Profile Name URGENT

1. created an E-mail account and configured Out look by creating a pop3 mail profile. tested it by sending and receiving mail, that is ook
2. I Created one domain account for MSsqlserver and Sql Agent service. both services use same account and start automatically in the control panel-services
3. I used the profile that I created in outlook to test the sql mail but got an error:
Error 22030 : A MAPI error ( error number:273) occurred: MapiLogon Ex Failed due to MAPI
Error 273: MAPI Logon Failed
I really do not know what went wrong. I followed the steps from bol and still having a problem. Am I missing something.
I do have a valid email account
I do have a valid domain account
I tested outlook using the email account and it worked. so why sql server does not recognise MAPI.
My next question, How to configure MAPI in Sql server if what I did was wrong.
Urgent, Urgent !! My Sql Server Refused To Start Due To Encrypton
Mar 23, 2001Hi, I have 2 windows 2000 server in cluster with sql server 2000 enterprise edition installed.
I have activated the Server-Requested Encryption by using the sql server network utility (Force Protocol Encryption). After this, I have stoped sql server service. But I can't start it at this moment.
The error is:
19015: The encrypton is required but no available certificat has been found.
Please help me to start sql server.

1. Open console command (Run->CMD with administrator privileges).
2. net stop winmgmt
3. Rename folder %windir%System32WbemRepository to other one, for backup purposes (for example _Repository).
4. net start winmgmt
2<sup>nd</sup> Method..
1. Disable and stop the WMI service.
a) Command : - sc config winmgmt start= disabled
b. Command : - net stop winmgmt
2. Run the following commands.
a). Command: Winmgmt /salvagerepository %windir%System32wbem
b). Command: Winmgmt /resetrepository %windir%System32wbem
3. Re-enable the WMI service
Command: sc config winmgmt start= auto
Last command to run after above steps
4. Command: mofcomp "%programfiles(x86)%Microsoft SQL Server100Sharedsqlmgmproviderxpsp2up.mof"

Jun 10, 2015I am in the process of moving databases from a SQL 2005 Standard version to a 2-node 2014 cluster.All of my 2005 databases back up successfully.They all restore without issue except for one database that has a full text catalog. I get this message

CASE:
I created a link server from SQL Server 2000 to FoxPro database using vfpoledb driver. SQL server and FoxPro database are NOT being run on the same machine.
Server1 - SQL Server 2000 (I created the link server which connects to Server2)
Server2 - FoxPro database
TROUBLESHOOT
When I test the link server on the machine which has FoxPro database , It is working with no problem.
PROBLEM STATEMENT:
When a user machine sends a query to Server1/Link Server, it is getting Error:7302
Please help me.

When ever I trying to run a select statement from one server to a linked server (remote server), like:
select * from servername.dbname.owner.table
It fails saying there are too many prefixes. Only 2 are allowed and there are three above.
Any one knows what's the issue here.
