Linked Report Margins (2005 Edition)

May 23, 2008

Hello, I've been trying the suggestions in the link below, and without success.

http://blogs.msdn.com/bwelcker/archive/2005/09/28/474898.aspx

This is supposed to allow us to build a linked report with these properties already set. This post works for a linked report that is already deployed. I want to set the properties on the report as I'm deploying the linked report. The instructions listed don't seem to work, it gives type errors and other related things when I try this approach, has anyone else had any luck doing this?

It says:
Error : rsElementTypeMismatch (The value provided for the PageHeight
field is not valid for its type. It cannot be converted from a string value to
the type that is required.)

What do I do to get around this? I tried changing it to a number, but no luck. I'm trying to do this in rs.exe:

Dim props(7) As [Property]
props(0) = New [Property]
props(0).Name = "Description"
props(1) = New [Property]
props(1).Name = "Hidden"
props(2) = New [Property]
props(2).Name = "PageHeight"
props(3) = New [Property]
props(3).Name = "PageWidth"
props(4) = New [Property]
props(4).Name = "BottomMargin"
props(5) = New [Property]
props(5).Name = "TopMargin"
props(6) = New [Property]
props(6).Name = "LeftMargin"
props(7) = New [Property]
props(7).Name = "RightMargin"
props = RS.GetProperties(basereportpath, props)
RS.CreateLinkedReport(name, parent, basereportpath, props)

SSRS 2005 - Linked Report Email Doesn't Have Https

May 19, 2008

I've got a report server that I recently inherited. I'll be the first to admit that I'm not an expert on SSRS, but I've figured out a lot in the past few weeks.

One issue I'm having (apparently it's always been there, but nobody ever bothered to fix it in the past) has to do with the report subscriptions and linked reports. We have an SSL cert inside IIS. I have SSRS configured to "require SSL connections" in the Report Server Virtual Directory tab.

So the user gets an email with a link to a report. But the link has an "http://" as opposed to "https://." When you click on the link, it throws your standard "page must be viewed on a secure channel." When I manually append an S to the url, it works great.

There has to be a way to automagically add the S to the url, but I can't seem to figure out how. Anyone ever run into this before? Google has not been good to me this morning either.

Replication Between SQL 2005 Express Edition And SQL 2005 Standard Edition

May 10, 2007

Hello everybody,

I got a problem in my development phase. I'm developing a web-application system that running merge database technology which is centralized database and distributed database. This is because my customer want a highly optimum system standby.

My centralized database running SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition and the distributed database running SQL Server 2005 Express Edition (because it is free). Each of these database, the users can change the data on its database. So, every database must have the same data. from my understanding, each server must act as Publisher and Subscriber. Can SQL Server 2005 Express Edition be a Publisher?

If not, what the solution you all may suggest, because cost is the first factor. If my architecture is not correct, so what you all suggest to me to resolve the problem.

Thanks so much. Any suggestion and opinion is highly appreciate and I'm highly thanks to you all.

Windows CE 5 Device With SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition Sync With SQL Server 2005 Express Edition

Oct 25, 2007

I have:

A server computer running SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition.

A industrial computer running SQL Server 2005 Express Edition.

And now also a Psion WorkAboutPro with CE 5 that should run SQL Server Compact Edition.

The industrial computer syncs its data with the server, basically saying "this has happened".

Now I want the Psion to sync with the industrial computer, but this sync must two-way.

I have tried to find a guide or something that can tell me "do this to sync" but the information i have found is sketchy at best.

If someone could point me in the right direction of a guide or something else it would be much appreciated.

Local - Printing Margins Are Off By ~1/8 Inch

Jul 19, 2007

I am printing my reports from my local report viewr, and the margins are off by just a little bit. It looks like printing shifts the contents of the report 1/8 inch to the right, borking the margins.

Report body is 7" wide
Margins are .75" inch on all sides
Print Preview mode displays the report properly, centered
Output is similarly skewed on all printers (tried 4)
This is using the VS SP1 version of the RS dll's.
However, when I print the report I get it shifted to the right by 1/8 inch. This leaves me with a 7/8" margin on the left, and a 5/8" margin on the right.

Setting the margins to Left: 0.625, Right: 0.875 (5/8&7/8) actually causes it to print centered, so I know it is paying attention. When I do this, the print layout mode shows the contents shifted to the left 1/8", as expected.

I assume that people print using this control, or at least it was tested, so has anyone else seen this or is it a confirmed bug?

Printer Margins Are Not Respected When Printing Reports.

Aug 1, 2007

I believe this is an extension of the problem described here:

http://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/ViewFeedback.aspx?FeedbackID=115351

The service pack for Visual Studio has fixed the problem when I print my report from VS, however when I deploy and print my reports from the SSRS website they are still incorrect.

My SSRS server is running SQL 2005 with service pack 2 installed and the 9.00.3152 9333097 Cumulative hotfix package (build 3152) for SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 also applied.

I find it hard to believe the problem was fixed in the developer tool but NOT in the client tool?

How can I develop reports when the output from the developer tool is different to the output from the client tool?

For example I specify a box to be 5cm wide, and when printed from visual studio it is 5cm wide, but when printed from the SSRS website it is not 5cm wide!

Thanks.

Downgrade Path From SQL 2005 Enterprise Trial Edition To Standard Edition

Hi all--I'm researching the cleanest downgrade path from a trial edition of SQL Server 2005 Enterprise to a licensed Standard Edition copy. Detaching the old databases will preserve the non-system databases; what method would work best for restoring the system databases?

Can I Use Sql Server 2005 Developer Edition With Windows Xp Home Edition SP2 For MCTS Exam 70-431 Preparation?

Dec 21, 2007

Hi
I am interested in taking MCTS exam 70-431 for sql server 2005 implementation and maintainance.
I have been reading the hardware requirements for the instalation of sql server versions and realise that enterprise and developer editions have same minimum requirements for the operation system.
I understand that the Developer Edition includes all the functionality of SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition, but it is licensed for use as a development and test system, not as a production server.

Also I undestand that the developer edition supports the Windows XP Home Edition with SP2 or later but the enterprise edition does not support this operating system. The evaluation/trial version is for the enterprise edition. Can I use the developer version of sql server 2005 for my practice exercises instead of using the trial version?
I have all hardware requirements for the trial enterprise version except that I am using Microsoft windows Xp home edition version 2002 with SP2. I am trying to see if I can use the developer version of sql server 2005 as it is cheaper for me to buy this software than buying the new operating system for my computer.
According to the microsoft book for the MCTS exam 70-431 there is a section which states that before you begin you should have Microsoft Windows Server 2003 running on your computer on an NTFS file system
(NTFS) partition. Will I still be ok to use the book and be able to do all the tests in the book if i am using the developer version of sql server 2005 with my Microsoft windows Xp home edition than using the trial version which comes with the book?

Thanks

Replicating From SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition To Remote SQL Server 2005 Express Edition

Aug 13, 2007

Hello,

I have been unable to create a replication from an SQL Server 2005 standard edition database to remote SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. The remote express edition is on a Virtual Private Server we are leasing from a hosting company. The name of the remote DB is similar to vs572.si-vs572.com. I can connect to this with SQL server authentication through Management Studio and also with SSIS. But, I have been unable to create a push subscription (I have tried a test push subscription with the same publication to a local SQL Express server here in our office and this works fine).

Here is the error message: SQL Server Replication requires the actual server name to make a connection to the server. Connections through server alias, IP address, or any other alternate name are not supported. Specify the actual server name, 'VS572SQLEXPRESS'.

The hosting company had originally installed a shared SQL server which would not support replication. They then installed SQL Express edition and I was hoping this would allow us to run a replication.

I tried to connect to VS572SQLEXPRESS with out any luck. I check the remote connections, made sure replication was installed, etc., but no luck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,
Albert

SQL Server 2005 Workgroup Edition Upgrade To Standard Edition

Feb 8, 2008

I'd like to upgrade from my current SQL Server version: 09.00.3042 (Workgroup edition that comes with SBS upgrade) to the standard edition that I've just purchased. I've attempted to run setup.exe SKUUPGRADE=1 from the command prompt and it just tells me that there's nothing new to install.

I don't really want to uninstall the current installation just to do something that shouldn't be complicated to do, upgrading software versions should not be a difficult process.

Does anybody have any experience with this?

Change From Developer Edition To Enterprise Edition Of SQL Server 2005 64 Bit

May 20, 2008

We have an existing installation of SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition (64bit) that we are ready to go live with and would like to change the edition to Enterprise Edition (64bit). We have purchased all the appropriate licenses. We would like to avoid UN-installing the Developer Edition and RE-installing the Enterprise Edition. There must be some way to change a registry key, provide your serial number via a command line utility or re-run the setup with the license key provided and direct it to just change the edition from Developer to Enterprise and not change any of the other settings like service account, sa account, collation, etc. Any help is most appreciated.

Report Builder Using Report Model Based On Linked Server (Excel) - Primary Key?

Sep 6, 2007

I've created a linked server with a pretty basic Excel spreadsheet, and used this command to create a linked server to it:

sp_addlinkedserver ''XL_SPS_1', 'Excel', 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0', 'c:MyExcel.xls', null, 'Excel 8.0'

I want to use this as the data from which to build a report model. As linked servers don't show up in the Data Source View wizard, I created a view in SQL Server:

create view MyExcel
as
select * from XL_SPS_1...Sheet1$

Okay, great, now the view shows up in the DSV wizard and I can create the data source view. However, when I create a new report model based on this data source view, the Report Model Wizard tells me at "Create entities for all tables" that I've got an error when it processes dbo_MyExcel that "Table does not have a primary key."

I assume this is where the identifying attributes for the entities in the report model are taken from, so I really can't go further. Does anyone have an idea as to how to add a primary key to a linked server (Excel) in SQL 2005? Can this be done? Other than importing spreadsheet data to a SQL table, how can I get around this?

Thanks,
--Stan

Reporting Services :: SSRS Linked Report Based On Calculated Field From Main Report

Oct 6, 2015

How do I get data on my linked report based on my grouped subtotal and grand total from the main report.  The subtotal and grand total are calculated columns.

I have a 3 columns in my matrix in the SSRS summary report. Actn_COAST, ActnCITY and NumbOfAccts.

The following is code for my summary report.  The results are shown below.

SELECT Distinct ActnCITY, Count(ACCT) as NumbOfAccts,
CASE WHEN ActnCITY in ('NY', 'OH', IN, 'NJ', 'SC', 'NC') THEN 'EAST COAST'
WHEN ActnCITY IN ('CA'. 'NV', 'UT', 'WA', 'OR') THEN 'WEST COAST'
ELSE 'OTHER'
END AS Actn_COAST

FROM tbl1
where ACTNDATE between @STARTDT and @EndDT

Code for my detail report contains the following SQL

SELECT * FROM tbl1 where ACTNDATE between @STARTDT and @EndDT AND @ActnCITY = ActnCITY

I have linked my report based on the NumbOfAccts column.  I am able to get data if I click any of the NumbOfAccts values related to the state I want.  However when I am not sure how to make the subtotal and grand total work.  I want when I click on the subtotal of either coast, I should be able to see records of that coast e.g., if I select 37 I should be able to see all the records in East Coast.  If I click on the Grand Total, I only want data related to those 2 coasts.

Does that seem right?

Connect From 2005 Developer Edition To 2000 Developer Edition

Jun 1, 2007

Hi, all -

I'm trying to register a developer's 2000 pc from my 2005 pc.

i'm not sure this is even something possible from Dev Edition to Dev Edition- I can register a 2000 server just fine.

I can ping him. Both our systems have remote access 'on'. His server is (local), i've tried connecting to it by just entering his machine name and by using just the ip address. The error I get is "timeout expired. The timeout elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding."

Am I just not registering this properly? I entered just the ip address in the 'server' box. I am connecting as sa with the pw he gave me. When i connect to my server, I use the ip addressinstance. However, I am not sure what to use for the instance when all I see when I look at his machine is (local).

I haven't needed to do this before.

Suggestions?
