Can I change the SQL statement on a linked report without modifying the original? I'm trying to limit a category by userid. I basically want to add an additional line to the where clause. Any ideas?

I updated a report adding parameter expressions. A linked report based on the report I updated didn't get the parameter expressions when I deployed the base report. Anybody else having that issue? It's not much of a problem. I just have to recreate the linked report which is a nusance.

I have a SSRS report with four parameters,and I want to be able to enter information for two of the parameters and run the report opposed to all four of them. However, when I select allow blanks and only select the parameters that I want to run the report by, the report come back blank..Essentially, I want to be able to the run report by different parameters without having to enter information for all parameters at the same time.

I want to use this as the data from which to build a report model. As linked servers don't show up in the Data Source View wizard, I created a view in SQL Server:
create view MyExcel

Okay, great, now the view shows up in the DSV wizard and I can create the data source view. However, when I create a new report model based on this data source view, the Report Model Wizard tells me at "Create entities for all tables" that I've got an error when it processes dbo_MyExcel that "Table does not have a primary key."
I assume this is where the identifying attributes for the entities in the report model are taken from, so I really can't go further. Does anyone have an idea as to how to add a primary key to a linked server (Excel) in SQL 2005? Can this be done? Other than importing spreadsheet data to a SQL table, how can I get around this?

I have a report that needs to use two multi-value parameters that are linked.
The report shows stock availability for the production of trial kits and the requirement is to enter multiple quantities of multiple kits as shown below:
Parameter 1 Parameter 2
Kit A 10
Kit B 15
Kit C 25
Is there a way I can select multiple kits and then enter a specific quantity for each selection?

How do I get data on my linked report based on my grouped subtotal and grand total from the main report. The subtotal and grand total are calculated columns.
I have a 3 columns in my matrix in the SSRS summary report. Actn_COAST, ActnCITY and NumbOfAccts. Â

I have linked my report based on the NumbOfAccts column. I am able to get data if I click any of the NumbOfAccts values related to the state I want. However when I am not sure how to make the subtotal and grand total work. I want when I click on the subtotal of either coast, I should be able to see records of that coast e.g., if I select 37 I should be able to see all the records in East Coast. If I click on the Grand Total, I only want data related to those 2 coasts.
I am working on reports in SSRS 2008 (not R2)... There are some reports with parameters that are hidden when the report is accessed through normal URL using ReportViewer.asx..The thing is that these hidden parameters need to be visible when the report is accessed using SSRS Report Manager.

the report is created from stoked procedure having defaut input parameters.
With visual studio, i publish my report on reportserver. whenever i access to my report on this url :

I would like to know if i can transmet parameters for the stocked procedure to build the report with the request i want.
I tried to put parameter directly in the url in this way

but without success.

Here is a situation in my company:
We have an Office SharePoint 2007 site, we developed a couple of web parts and added them to our site. We used SQL Server Reporting services 2005 as our reporting solution. The reports are hosted on the report center and when we need a report, we open it by sending a URL requesting the report, passing the report parameters in the URL query string. So the report is filtered based on the parameters passed from the web parts.
But since best practices say that you should host reports directly under SharePoint, by configuring the reporting services to run in the SharePoint integrated mode. We followed the steps and installed SharePointRS and we finally succeeded to publish the reports to a SharePoint folder, but we had a limitation: we are unable to pass the report parameters internally to the report hosted in SharePoint. If we passed them in the query string as the report center case, SharePoint neglects them totally.
So the question is: how can I pass parameters internally between a SharePoint web part and a SQL server 2005 reporting services report hosted in SharePoint?
I am trying to develop a report from cube,and it has one drill through report.when i click on sales amount field on main report,then it open the drill through report with details.Here i passed the **(category,subcat,product)parameters(Cascaded)** to drill through report in action part of main report.In my main report i have two columns .

But when I try to use OPEENQUERY statement, it works just fine. Problem comes when I need to send some parameters with the OPENQUERY'S 'query' part.
For example, the following statement works just fine:

Hi, don't know if anyone can help me but I desperately need to roll a report out which relies on an SQL 7.0 datasource.
Current situation - Reporting Services 2000 up and running on an SQL 2000 box - no problems getting reports to run from the native machine but I cannot get the thing to make a hop to our SQL 7.0 box.
I've created three data sources - OLEDB, Native and ODBC. For the OLEDB and Native I am getting a DATABASEPROPERTYEX error - I assume here that reporting services is polling the SQL 7.0 box with an unsupported method.
For ODBC I CANNOT get the parameters to work - I've read all sorts of stuff about using unnamed parameters, so I've put a ? in the query and I'm getting Invalid parameter number and invalid parameter number errors (I suspect it is getting a bit confused, but then so am I).
So I thought I'd try a linked server, sure enough with a fixed parameter I can get through the linked server no problem, but again I can't work out the syntax/series of events needed to use a parameter with this, I'm starting to suspect it can't be done with an Exec statement.
So - first question - is there any way around the DBPROPERTY EX problem so I can use OLEDB/SQL Client connectivity and secondly please can someone explain what exactly has to go in the parameters box when I press ... on the data source box, 'cos it's doing my head in.

I have a really cool Budget report which has two matrices on it. One is used/visible if the user selects four levels of grouping, and one is used if the user selects only three levels of grouping. The four choices for grouping are four fields, Par, FERC, Point, and Resource.
Since grouping is optional, I need a way to pass the parameter for a field that is not grouped on from the main report to the drillthrough report. For example if the user chooses to group on all fields but Point, I need to pass the report parameter that was used by the main report for Point to the drillthrough report as a report parameter.
So, I tried testing the three grouping levels values and if none were equal to "Point" then pass in the parameter by putting the following expression in the Parameter Value box for the Point parameter on the Navigation tab of the datacell of the main report that is the drillthrough link:

Parameters!GroupLevel1.Value <> "Point"

Parameters!GroupLevel2.Value<>"Point"

Project Type is : SQL Server Reportings 2005.

How to change the Security Properties of a Linked Server.
In tsql, I need to setup a linked server and want to set the Properties -> Security -> For a login not defined in the list above, connections will: -> Not be made But I cannot figure out how to set it to Not be made. I manually set it in the GUI, and the scripted the linked server and when I ran the script to create it was set to Be made using the login's current security context. The create script did not even set it correctly.
I have looked around and all that I have found is a column in sys.linked_logins, uses_self_credential that looks promising. But I cannot change the system catalog.

I installed SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition and then executed SP2. So, when I try to move master database to another place, I don't obtain to change the Startup Parameters, because the instance SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) in SQL Server 2005 Services in the SQL Server Configuration Manager isn't shown. I observed that if not execute the SP2 the instance SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) is shown.
What it can is happening ?

We are having some commercial applications that are running on sql servers at different sites, all with sql security. The software vendor wants to copy data into staging tables on our BI server. But our BI server only support Integrated security.
But how can i say, in the definition of a linked server (at the remote machines) to swicth security system ?
If it is possible i could enter a fixed domain-account in that users fields, but i suppose that this field was intended for SqlServer security.

Is it possible to add custom controls in for parameters in report manager??
I have a parameter that requires the user to click a button and select a bunch of things in another form. How can i do this in reporting services??
I also would like to change the layout of the parameters toolbar, ie. make text boxes smaller widths, show/hide parameters based on other parameter values.
I know i could write my own web page that does this and hide the parameters toolbar when they run the report, but this would mean that we lose other functionality that report manager has, eg. scheduling.
Does anyone know if customising the report manager will become available in a later version??

I have two reports, Report A and Report B.
Report A has two parameters defined as "Prompted", meaning the report input area is available for the user.
Report A parameters ---> StartDate, EndDate
When Report B invokes Report A using the Jump To Report Functionality and passing Report B's StartDate and EndDate parameters, Report A seems to think the parameters are implied and not needed and fails to drop down the parameter input area.
This is not desired because the user should be able to change report A's parameters.
Anyone know a workaround?
I have a query that will return one record as its results if you provide two variables: @login and @record_date. This works great if you only want one result. However, now what I want to do is not provide those variables and get the result set back for each login and record_date combination. Can anybody tell me how to change the name Property of a report on the Report Server?
When im using the standard Webpage, i can change all the properties i want.
But when i try the same in code. Changing the name property gets me a read-only exception.
The description does change but i actually want the name to change.

I am using Reporting Services 2005.
I have 3 report parameters: startdate, enddate, callstatus
My problem is that once I added callstatus to the parameter list my dates were ignored?
What do I need to do to correct it?
My select code is as below:

Why is it that EVERY TIME you make any change at all to a data set or parameter, RS automatically changes your parameters from single value to Multi-value????
This is VERY annoying.
Is there a way to force report designer overlook parameter dependencies, so that a report could be displayed by either of the two parameters although one parameter accepts but not requires the other?
For Example:
In my report I have two parameters, DeptID and ProjectID. The two drop downs display Departments and Projects respectively but only if the department is selected, the Projects list becomes active as its expecting a DepartmentID in the stored proc but accepts a null value as well. So, what I would like to achieve is display ALL projects in the Projects list, even if no department is selected. Any ideas how to do that?

I have an mdx report that uses 7 parameters.
How do I stop the parameters from being dependent on one another and cascading?
When a user changes a parameter value, the flashing and repopulating of the other parameter boxes takes longer than the actual report to run.
I've tried removing the dependencies from the parameter dataset mdx code as well as edititng the parameter datasets and removing the dependencies.
Is cascading parameter relationships a default by design?
Any insight would be appreciated.

I have a report and the parameters Passed to the report are Cusip and PeriodId through a stored Procedure.
i want to populate the cusip Parameters using a dataset thats got by a sproc called usp_getCusips.
and the PerioId using a dataset thats been got by another sproc called usp_Getperiods...
So in my report i have added 3 datasets one for the main report, one to get the values of the PeriodId and other to get the value of the cusip.
So in my Report parameters for the Parameter Cusip and i have checked the Available value option and selected its corresponding Dataset and value .
and i have also done the same thing for the PeriodId.. But when i run my sproc i am getting this Error.
[rsInvalidReportParameterDependency] The report parameter €˜Cusip€™ has a DefaultValue or a ValidValue that depends on the report parameter €œCusip€?. Forward dependencies are not valid.

I've had a report working that uses a parameter that allows null values. So, of course, I have the "Allow Null Values" flag checked on the parameters dialog for the respective parameter. But recently I changed the "Available values" option for the parameter to "From Query" but then I lose the ability to allow a null value! Why is this happening? Why are they mutually exclusive?
