Importing Pdf Mages Into A Table And Linking It To Another Table.

The files have different file names and keep coming every week. I need to import them into a table and link it with the data table. Need help on how to get the filename out of the pdf file and save it on the table with the image. I can use that filename as the foriegn key..Any help would be really great..

Nov 10, 2005Little puzzle this.I need to link from SQL2000 to Access to get to a table held within anAccess DB. Now you can link within Access to a SQL table, but can thisbe done the other way round ? It's the first time I've needed to dosomething like this.What I have is an application which was written (by me) with an Accessbackend (to run on a CD) and now it needs to run on SQL. However, Iwant to be able to swap over between backends so that I can choosewhere this runs from. I've done this with the sole exception of onetable. Previously most of the data was held in one MDB file and a linkto another (one local copy and one on CD). My queries use the link toquery both local and the CD copy data together.I can re-write things if I need to, but I was curious about there beinga way of doing this. What I want in effect is to query a view on SQL,but the data will be held in Access instead of on SQL.I suppose I can import as I need it as the data is purely read only. Idon't think this can be done, but wanted to check first. I can alwaysmove the remainder of the data over to SQL if needed. It's not a bigproblem, just something I'm curious about.Any pointers would be appreciated.Thanks in advanceRyanp.s. In case anyone wonders why I have taken this approach it isbecause we have a query tool and data that we send out to clients onCD. So, if I have:
tblClients ClientID
tblClientAddresses AddressID
tblClientAddressLinks AddressID, ClientID
Currently I have them set as a 1-M from tblClients to tblClientAddressLinks and a 1-M from tblClientAddresses to tblClientAddressLinks
If I try and delete a client and there address is shared wont this go very wrong?
So here is what happens when I try and delete a client:

Linking Sql Table To Access97
May 11, 1999I am trying to link a table from a MS SQL database into access97 thru ODBC. When I do this, I get the message "Can't define field more than once." When I look at the table in SQL, there are no duplicate field names, however, when I bring the table in to do a Crystal Report, I see there are 2 fields that have duplicate field names 6 times. (Evidently Crystal doesn't care about this as Access does.) Any clues on what is happening?

Jan 15, 2004I would like to hear your thoughts on a philosophy I adhere to.
As a rule of thumb I've always preached that Unique Indexes are for linking tables and Primary Keys are used to ensure that records aren't duplicated. I’ve embraced this philosophy for a couple reasons, the main one being that I don’t have to create numerous foreign key fields in the foreign key table.
However I’ve done most of my programming in Access and am now in need of something more robust (SQL Server v7) and I’m wondering if I need to reconsider.
I do also have a how to question; that being is it possible to create a table join on a unique index in SQL Server v7 and if so how? I would like to have an Auto Number / Auto Incremented / Unique Identifier field in the Primary Key table that links to a numeric field in the Foreign Key table.

Jan 11, 2000I would like to create a MSAccess97 front end for some SQL7 data.
I created an odbc source system dsn for the server holding the SQL7 data.
When I try to add a table to my Access97 database by linking it to a SQL7 table, the only choices presented me are tables in the default database for SQL7 on my server. How do I link to tables in another database on that server? Thanks.

Sep 28, 1998I`m trying out SQLServer7, have installed it on my workstation, have been able to open access97 and link to sql7 tables I created. Want another user to use access97 to set up her own database and link to my sql7 tables. Do I need to install anything from the sql7 beta disk on her desktop? Right now she can`t link a sql7 table to her access97 db. Thanks.

Something strange has happened to my table. I used Enterprise Manager today to delete 3 columns. When I went to re-link the table using Access Linked Table Manager, it gave me an error. I then deleted the link to the table, and tried to Link it again using 'Get External Data---Link Tables'. I am getting an error (no surprise!):
" 'dbo.tblSpaceUse.PK_RoomID' is not a valid name. Make sure that it does not include invalid characters or punctuation and that it is not too long".
When I go into Enterprise Manager to 'manage Indexes' on the table, it shows me that the existing index is in fact dbo.tblSpaceUse.PK_RoomID.
About a month ago, I had to rename the index, because it had been pointing to the wrong table. The SQL I used to rename it (in Query Analyzer) is:
EXEC sp_rename 'dbo.tblSpaceUse.PK_RoomID', 'tblSpaceUse.PK_RoomID', 'INDEX'
I have been using the table successfully since then, until today. I have not done anything with the index; the only change I attempted was to delete 3 columns (not related to the index). I do not think I have made any changes to the table since I renamed the index.
I tried to run the rename SQL again (a desperate attempt!) and get the error message:
Server: Msg 15248, Level 11, State 1, Procedure sp_rename, Line 192
Either the parameter @objname is ambiguous or the claimed @objtype (INDEX) is wrong.
Any ideas on what went wrong and what I can do to fix it???

Summary : I have two DB's on the same server. I have two simple select queries for each DB which work correctly.

Mar 15, 2012I have an assignment where I am to create two tables within a database. One of the tables have the name ContactPerson with the attributes; ID, Forename, Surname, Email, PhoneNumber. The other table is called Company and has the attributes: ID, CompanyName.
Now my problem is that I have to link a ContactPerson to a specific company, but I can't have them in the same table.
I understand that I can use the join statement to show both tables in one query but I need the database to know which person is linked to which company when I implement this databse into my asp.net project.
How do I do this?

Sep 2, 2007I'm writing my first web site using VS 2005 and with my login page I'm trying to link with my SQL database using the following setting in my web.config file

Then in my Login.aspx file I use the following code to access the SQL database

Linking 6.5 Server
Mar 8, 1999I can't seem to link a 6.5 database from 7.0 and there's nothing in help which seems to help. Is it a "SQL Server" or do you have to use the OLE DB Provider? If the latter, what's supposed to be in the Product, Data Source, Provider String and Catalog fields? What about security? I've tried everything I can think of and can't get it to work. I also get errors creating a new DTS package that says "Could ot create Component Categories Manager", and then "Error during creation of DTS Package". I installed the desktop version of 7 on an NT Workstation. Has anyone successfully linked a 6.5 server in this environment?

It shows an error like that " Particular table doesnot exist or user doesn't have permission to connect ti this table"and below this one message is shown which is " Message 7314, line16".But i am giving it a proper "username/password ". In this linked server i am using Oracle10g new provider "ODAC101040.exe". so, please elaborate my such problem and also gives me the solution of this problem.

Linking From SQL Server To MySQL

I have created an ODBC connection to a remote MySQL database.
I can then go into DTS wizard and specify this ODBC connection, it all goes through fine and I can see the tables on the remote server and import data.
The problem arises when I try and create a linked server using the same ODBC connection. I get the following error, when I try to view the tables.
I am so stuck. Any help would be very much appreciated.

I need to make it so that users can display the data from the SQL Server so I created some link tables in Access for them to view the data without using SQL Server Enterprise Manager. This works fine in tables with only a few thousand rows of data. However some of the tables have 100K+ rows of data, and these are not displaying the data. When someone tries to view the data in one of these tables all they see is #Deleted in every column. Is it possible to link to tables in SQL Server with large numbers of rows and view this info in Access?

Linking To SQL Server To Access 97
Dec 7, 2007OK here is my situation: I work in a laboratory with a 10 year old instrument that stores results in an Access 97 DB. The DB is beautifully designed and implemented. The problem is that since the software is so old, once the DB gets above a few MB in size the application starts to fail. So their solution is to Backup (make a copy) and Cleanup (delete data older than X days) once a week. So what I end up with is a bunch of copies of the DB, which fragments the data that I need. In order to get the data results I have been using an Access 2003 DB linked to this one (because I can't create Views in that database). The lab users then use the linked DB directly or I have written some automation code in Excel VBA (ADO) to simplify it for the other users. This allows us to query data immediately as it is produced.
My hope is that I can somehow get all of the data into a SQL Server DB. Now I have imported one of the backup copies of the DB in and the table structure and data imports fine into SQL Server, but I end up with duplicate rows because the different DB backup files have overlapping data, and for some reason there aren't PKeys. Also, I'd prefer to have some way of automating the input. Something like a trigger on the Access table so that any new data is imported into the SQL DB automatically. I doubt this is possible, but that is generally what I am trying to do and I am out of ideas. The ultimate goal is that the SQL DB will always be "updated" and I can use that as my query source and take advantage of the power of SQL Server.
Hopefully that all made sense... if anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them.

Mar 31, 2008First off, I am a novice in regards to SQL server and have the rudimentary skills to navigate, execute, query under SQL Server Manager. So, please bear with me.
I am working on a program that was not developed by myself, it is for my business and the company that developed it has gone under, so I have no technical support. The program uses SQL Server and ASP.net. We had a recent hard drive crash and I am in the predicament of having to re-install a new instance of the server onto a new computer. I have the most recent saved "data" files within "Microsoft SQL server/MSSQL/Data" directory. It includes the master, model, MSDB, etc. files.
Long story short, I have been successful in making the program operational again and I can connect to the server properly. It even works when web connecting with internet explorer. The problem I am facing is that all of the data is missing. When I connect through SQL Server Manager, I can see that there are two databases, I will name them "data1" and "data2". When I run a query of the tables, all the data is in "data2". All the stored procedures and tables are identical in both "data1" and "data2".
I am assuming (hopefully I'm right) that "data1" and "data2" are somehow linked or joined in some way. Any insight in how to get these two tables to link would be very much appreciated. Again, I am a novice, and will need help with specific coding that I can put into a query window and execute.

Linking Tables To SQL Server
Apr 23, 2007I'm new to SQL Server 2000. I decided to purchase this server because my old company (UPS) used the server to help expedite queries and manage on-line reporting. So, now it's up to me to utilize and understand the new server. I have been using MS Access as my front-end for several ad-hoc databases, so I'd like to keep utilizing this method. I want to test my first database using the SQL Server.
I've got everything set up. The IT department has installed the server software on my computer. Within my Access database, I link in tables from a database called "Progress" using a Merant driver. Queries, forms, macros and modules are all pulling from these "linked" tables. Do I need to link these tables into the SQL Server? How do I transistion this database over to SQL? I guess I'm confused about the relationship of how all of this should work.
Right now it looks like this:
PROGRESS ..... linked....... MS Access ....... reporting/results

Do I need to code a mirror images of these objects or is there some way to export these into SQL Server?
Also, where do I deal with assigning usernames and passwords? Access or SQL Server. I need to have different views for different users based upon their rights (user, admin)

Problem With Federated Server Linking

I am trying to implement linked servers and I am having some trouble. The setup is as follows: I have two machines with the same SA login/pwd. BOTH machines have a database called: Federated_Bridge.
On machine 1: Federated_Bridge contains a table Fed_Entity_1
On machine 2: Federated_Bridge contains a table Fed_Entity_2
Machine 1, when I look it up in SQL Enterprise Manager it says: (local)
Machine 2, when I look it up in SQL Enterprise Manager it says: REALIBM2
When I expand those, I can see the databases folder and I can then see Federated_Bridge respectively.
On machine 1 (local) I am trying to create a linked server. I use the following SP call:

SQL Server Does Not Exist Or Access Denied

Linking A Text File To SQL Server

I need to create a Linked Server in SQL 2000 to a text file. Importing the file is not an option. It has to be linked. I tried creating a ODBC link to it but I must be doing something wrong because it didn't work.
