I would move a Database to another server. I try to use DTS but I have problems with this process because DB have big tables, I think. I try to use DETACH and ATTACH procedures but logins doesn't export. And more, in new server there are already logins from another DBs.
What's the best way to solve this problem?

I have a a table that holds a list of words, I am trying to add to the list, however I only want to add new words. But I wish to return from my proc the list of words with ID, whether it is new or old.
Here's a script. the creates the table,indexes, function and the storeproc. call the proc like procStoreAndUpdateTokenList 'word1,word2,word3'
My table is now 500000 rows and growing and I am inserting on average 300 words, some new some old.
performance is a not that great so I'm thinking that my code can be improved.

Lost SQL Logins, But Still Have DB Logins - Script To Recreate SQL Logins?
Jan 21, 2007ok, first, I know... I forgot to run a backup of the master database, and I forgot to run a script to caputure logins. Not that that is out of the way... I need to recreate the logins under the Securities tab below the databases. All the company databases have the user names and passwords assigned to them, but they are not able to login, because they are not able to authenticate to the SQL server first.
Is there a script that someone has that will copy the company database security info for the users and recreate them in the SQL security tab?
I know that I can rebuild them manually, but I need to delete them first in the application software, then delete them from the databases, and then recreate them in the application software... and as simple as that sounds... it is a slow moving process.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Moving DBs From SQL Server Logins To Windows Logins
Apr 3, 2007I am a systems analyst and work with an app that runs against 2 SQL Server DBs. Though I have some familiarity with SQL Server and SQL, I am not a DBA.
The app executable is tied to a Windows service.
When we install the app, we run a process that builds 2 dbs to include:
Tables, indexes, stored procedures, views and user accounts.
SQL Server is set up for mixed mode authentication.
Normally, the dbs run off the local db user accounts which are tied to local logins with the same names.
We have a client that wants to remove our standard logins so that they can run on only a Windows login.
I know I should be able to tie the db users to a Windows login.
And I can do the same for the service.
But I am at a loss as to how to get this done.
How do you associate db users with a Windows login?
When I have tried sp_change_users_login I get an error that the Windows login does not exist. (Though I have added the Windows account to the DB.)
Hope this all makes sense.
How Can You View The Connection String Of An Existing Datasource? How Do You Delete Existing Dataset?
Nov 14, 2007I went to look at the connection string previously entered for a dataset created in a new report, and am not seeing anything intuitive for bringing up the associated datasource dialog box that was used to enter name, type and connection string. I'm also noticing nothing intuitive for deleting an existing dataset. How do you do these two very simple things in an existing project? I dont see the dataset in solution explorer, I see it only in the text box on the data tab and in a limited kind of way on the dataset view where the columns show and maint is allowed mostly on the columns only. I tried hilighting the dataset here and hitting the delete key to no avail.

I would like to restore database using RESTORE DATABASE ... REPLACE command.
If database exists already and has any open connections this command will fail.
I would like to close all existing connections to specific database before running RESTORE DATABASE ... REPLACE command.
I can do closing from Management Studio using checkbox "Close Existing Connection" when deleting database. Actually I need to do the same but from script.
Please advice me how to do it.

Report Designer: Need To List Fields From Multiple Result Rows As Comma Seperated List (like A JOIN On Parameters)

I know I can do a JOIN(parameter, "some seperator") and it will build me a list/string of all the values in the multiselect parameter.
However, I want to do the same thing with all the occurances of a field in my result set (each row being an occurance).
For example say I have a form that is being printed which will pull in all the medications a patient is currently listed as having perscriptions for. I want to return all those values (say 8) and display them on a single line (or wrap onto additional lines as needed).
Something like:
List of current perscriptions: Allegra, Allegra-D, Clariton, Nasalcort, Sudafed, Zantac
How can I accomplish this?
I was playing with the list box, but that only lets me repeat on a new line, I couldn't find any way to get it to repeate side by side (repeat left to right instead of top to bottom). I played with the orientation options, but that really just lets me adjust how multiple columns are displayed as best I can tell.
Could a custom function of some sort be written to take all the values and spit them out one by one into a comma seperated string?

Items In List A That Don't Appear In List B (was Simple Query...I Think)
Jan 20, 2005Ok, I want to write a stored procedure / query that says the following:

If any of the items in list 'A' also appear in list 'B' --return false
If none of the items in list 'A' appear in list 'B' --return true
In pseudo-SQL, I want to write a clause like this

Unfortunately, it seems I can't do that unless my subquery before the 'IN' statement returns only one value. Needless to say, it returns a number of values.
I may have to achieve this with some kind of logical loop but I don't know how to do that.
Can anyone help?
Select List Contains More Items Than Insert List

I have set of 2 DTS packages, one of which calls the other by forming a command-line (dtexec) using a Execute Process task.
From the parent package-> Execute Process Task->
dtsexec /F etc... /<pkg variable> = "servername"
Each of the parent and the called package have a variable: "User::DWServerSQLInstance" which is mapped to the SQL server connection manager server name property using an expression. The outer package has the above variable and so does the inner called package (which gets assigned through the command line from the outerpackage call to inner)
I "sometimes" get the following error:

I have seen a few other people have this error.
Package works fine when run from BIDS, DTExec, dtexecui. When I schedule it, It get these random errors. (See below)
The main culprit is a variable called "RecordsetFileDIR" which is set using an expression. (@[User::_ROOT] + "RecordSets\")
A number of other variables use this as part of their expression and as they all fail, pretty much everything dies.
I have installed SP1 (Not Beta) on server. Package uses config files to set the value of _ROOT.
The error does not always seem to be with this particular variable though. Always a variable that uses an expression but errors are random. Also, It will run 3 out of 10 times without a problem. I am the only person on the server at the time.
Any ideas?

Jul 10, 2001I need to copy 80 logins within the same SQL Server (7.0 SP1) from 80 "old" logins that I'll delete later.
I clearly need to maintain all the security options for the new logins.
Is there a way to do this, adding the logins with the new name and granting all security options? Is there a script that will do this task or can somebody help me in doing that?

I have two servers (server1, server2). I was trying to access the data from server1 to server2. I linked the servers and set up the option for data access.
when I run the following command from server1: sp_remoteoption 'server2', 'sa', 'sa', TRUSTED, TRUE
It gives me the following error. How to handle this.

There is no remote user 'sa' mapped to local user 'sa' from the remote server 'server2'.

700 Logins
Apr 13, 2000I have a server that was recently upgraded from SQL 6.5 to 7.0 that contains almost 700 logins using standard security. Is there a limit to the number of logins that SQL will host? The logins/users have all been added using a GUI within an application and does not support NT authentication. Does this cause any known problems in SQL 7? When I right click on the database and go to properties / permissions MMC gets hung up. Also one of the systems analysts is convinced that SQL is dropping permissions (I disagree to this). Any one have any thoughts or experience with large numbers of logins / users?

with sql 2005
1)I create a windows login in my home pc (win xp home sp2) and i can connect server with ssms this new user
but in my office (win xp pro sp2) create a windows login (it is a windows user also) and when try to connect with ssms take error 18456 (user name and pass is true!!!)
2)in my office pc i create a sql login which has no role. but this user can create users and dbs. but in my home pc, user has no role cant do thats...:eek:
