Generate List Of All Numbers (numbers Not In Use)

Feb 21, 2007

I have an 'ID' column. I'm up to about ID number 40000, but not all are in use, so ID 4354 might not be in any row. I want a list of all numbers which aren't in use. I want to write something like this:

select [numbers from 0 to 40000] where <number> not in (select distinct id from mytable)

but don't know how. Any clues?

Using String List Of Numbers With IN

Mar 20, 2014

A table I'm working with has a varchar column containing a comma-delimited string of numbers, which match up to smallint codes in another table. I gather this is someone's implementation of a many-to-many relationship. :)

Using SQL Server 2008 and wondering if there's a special trick to using a string list of numbers with IN() URL...converting the string into a temp table[/url] but I'd just like to make sure there isn't a quicker, easier approach, or if that's it.

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Function To List Distinct Pax Name And Ticket Numbers?

Mar 14, 2014

I have data in a table Item_TB that I need to extract in a way that pulls out the distinct pax name and all the ticket numbers associated with the passenger per booking reference.

The data is:

Branch Folder ID Pax TktNo BookingRef
HQ 123 1 Jim 4444 ABCDE
HQ 123 2 Bob 5555 ABCDE
HQ 123 3 Jim 6666 ABCDE
HQ 123 4 Bob 7777 ABCDE
HQ 124 1 Jenny 8888 FGHIJ
HQ 124 2 Jenny 9999 FGHIJ
HQ 124 3 Jenny 3333 FGHIJ

I somehow need to get a function to pull the data out for each booking ref like so

--BookingRef ABCDE
Jim 4444/
6666
Bob 5555
7777
--BookingRef FGHIJ
Jenny 8888/
9999/
3333

I know I can get a simple function to return the all data, but I do not know how to only include the pax name once.

Dataflow To Excel - Convert Numbers Stored As Text To Numbers Excel Cell Error

Mar 27, 2007

I'm trying to write data to excel from an ssis component to a excel destination.

Even thought I'm writing numerics, every cell gets this error with a green tag:

Convert numbers stored as text to numbers

Excel Cells were all pre-formated to accounting 2 decimal, and if i manually type the exact data Im sending it formats just fine.

I'm hearing this a common problem -

On another project I was able to find a workaround for the web based version of excel, by writing this to the top of the file:

<style>.text { mso-number-format:@; } </style>

is there anything I can pre-set in excel (cells are already formated) or write to my file so that numerics are seen as numerics and not text.

Maybe some setting in my write drivers - using sql servers excel destination.

So close.. Thanks for any help or information.

SQL Server 2012 :: How To Compare List Of Numbers Kind Of Like Lottery Results

Feb 5, 2015

Say you have a table that has records with numbers sort of like lottery winning numbers, say:

TableWinners
num1, num2, num3, num4, num5, num6
33 52 47 23 17 28
... more records with similar structure.

Then you have another table with chosen numbers, same structure as above, TableGuesses.

How could you do the following comparisons between TableGuesses and TableWinners:

1. Compare a single record in TableGuesses to a single record in TableWinners to get a count of the number of numbers that match (kind of a typical lottery type of thing).

2. Compare a single record in TableGuessess to ALL records in TableWinners to see which record in TableWinners is the closest match to the selected record in TableGuesses.

Analysis :: How To Get Distinct List Of Member Values For Month Numbers From Date Dimension

Sep 10, 2015

Have a need to let the user select the year and month to use for filtering results from an MDX query that populates a report.I think all I should need is a list of years and a Month name / number.What would the filter look like if say I had a Date dimension that included the year number in a 4-digit and month in a 2-digit number?  In TSQL it would be something like ... where Month = @month AND Year = @year...How do I get a distinct list of member values for the month numbers from the Date dimension?

SQL Server 2012 :: List Of Order Numbers Based On Stock Availability - Filter Results?

Trying to build a list of order numbers based on stock availability.

The data looks something like this:

OrderNumber Stockcode quantityordered quantityinstock
123 code1 10 5
123 code2 5 10
124 code3 15 20
124 code4 10 10

In this case I would like to output a single result for each order, but based on stock availability order 123 is not a complete order and 124 is so the results will need to reflect this.

Formatting Numbers In A Mixed Column (numbers In Some Cells Strings In Other Cells) In Excel As Numbers

Feb 1, 2007

I have a report with a column which contains either a string such as "N/A" or a number such as 12. A user exports the report to Excel. In Excel the numbers are formatted as text.

I already tried to set the value as CDbl which returns error for the cells containing a string.

The requirement is to export the column to Excel with the numbers formatted as numbers and the strings such as "N/A' in the same column as string.

Any suggestions?

ERROR: A Variable May Only Be Added Once To Either The Read Lock List Or The Write Lock List.

May 22, 2006

Hi,
I have set of 2 DTS packages, one of which calls the other by forming a command-line (dtexec) using a Execute Process task.

From the parent package-> Execute Process Task->
dtsexec /F etc... /<pkg variable> = "servername"

Each of the parent and the called package have a variable: "User::DWServerSQLInstance" which is mapped to the SQL server connection manager server name property using an expression. The outer package has the above variable and so does the inner called package (which gets assigned through the command line from the outerpackage call to inner)

I "sometimes" get the following error:

OnError,I4,TESTDOMAdministrator,ACDWAggregation,{A1F8E43F-15F1-4685-8C18-6866AB31E62B},{77B2F3C7-6756-46EB-8C01-D880598FB4B3},5/22/2006 5:10:28 PM,5/22/2006 5:10:28 PM,-1073659822,0x,The variable "User::DWServerSQLInstance" is already on the read list. A variable may only be added once to either the read lock list or the write lock list.

Help would be appreciated!

I have seen other posts on this but, not able to relate the solution to my scenario.

Alerts Do Not Work For Error Numbers - Why

Aug 6, 2007

I'm unable to get an alert to fire for Error 2627, Primary Key Violation. I have followed BOL's instructions for creating an alert, which appears to be nearly identical to 2000, however the alert will not work. I can see the error number in a Profiler trace along with the Severity number. I've also tried creating alerts for other error numbers and had the same result. The BOL instructions are as follows:

To create an alert using an error number

1. In Object Explorer, connect to an instance of the SQL Server Database Engine, and then expand that instance.
2. Expand SQL Server Agent
3. Right-click Alerts and then click New Alert
4. In the Name box, enter a name for this alert.
5. Check the Enable check box to enable the alert to run. By default, Enable is checked
6. In the Type box, click SQL Server event alert.
7. In the Database name list, select a database to restrict the alert to a specific database
8. Click Error number, and then type a valid error number for the alert
9. To restrict the alert to a particular character sequence, check the box corresponding to Raise alert when message contains, and enter a keyword or character string for the Message text. The maximum number of characters is 100

What am I doing wrong?

SQL Server 2012 :: Use Unique Custom Error Numbers For THROW Statements?

Apr 20, 2015

My team is starting to implement error handling in our sprocs. One question we have is whether or not to use unique error numbers for custom errors (ie Errors we throw after doing some sort of validity check, not SQL Server errors). For example, we might check the value of a parameter and then throw an error that says "Parameter State_Date must be less than today, please retry".

We are using SQL Server 2012 and will be using the THROW statement, not RAISERROR, so we don't HAVE to put the numbers in sys.messages. Also, we are going to log the errors in a table, along with the error message, sproc name, line number, etc.

Is it useful to maintain a custom list of error numbers and messages? Or is it just as useful to use one standard error number and add a custom error message (which we can then search for in our code, or use the sproc name & line number we logged)? And if it is worth maintaining a list of numbers plus messages, should we go ahead and put them in sys.messages?

Problems Importing Data From Excel (numbers Stored As Text Error)

May 21, 2008

i have an excel sheet
in it there is a column that holds values of item numbers
some of these values are preceeded with zeros E.G "00123" (with out the ")
when i view the data in excel i get this little green corner whice states (when pressed) that these values are numbers stoerd as text.
no inside the excel sheet i have no problem with that
but when i try to import the excel sheet into ssis using an excel source task
all these values are imported as nulls!!!

i am lost
i tried converting the format of these cells to numbers but then i loose the leading zeros
what i done temporarly to solve this problem is to accept excel's suggestion and turn these values into numbers
i then import them and convert them to strings in ssis and then ad dthe zeros.
now althouge this works, this isnt realy a solution.
i canot manualy correct each excel file each time i get a new copy
and in the future i will not have the luxuery of having fixed lenght values (so i wont be able to know how many zeroe i"d need to add)

there must be a better way
please help

'error column' gives the id of the column. How to get the name of the 'error column'?

'unable To Obtain A List Of Tables From The Datasource' Error From Excel

Oct 12, 2007

Hi,
This is a very detailed question, I hope this is the best forum to address it. It is more related to general ODBC access, and less to SQL Server data access.

Calling all ODBC experts!

I am a developer using an ODBC toolkit to connect to my companies metadata management product, which in turn communicates to SQL Server, Oracle, DB2 and other databases. The ODBC toolkit we are using is very old, and has been very stable in accessing data with clients such as Access, Excel, Visio and others. It is a read-only ODBC driver that does not support a lot of advanced query and data manipulation features, such as catalog.

I'm using Visual Studio 2005 to debug the ODBC calls that Excel is making when attempting to load data through the External Data Wizard. The Excel version I am using is 2003. The method that I am using to attempt to load data is with 'Data | Import External Data | Import Data'. When that dialog appears, I select 'New Source...' then 'ODBC DSN'. I then select my DSN and click Next.

At this point, I get back the error 'unable to obtain a list of tables from the datasource'.

What is frustrating is, if I do 'Data | New Database Query' and use MSQuery to load the data, everything works fine.

As I mentioned I am using VC2005 and debugging, I believe the problem has to do with the capabilities of our driver and the columns that Excel is binding to return data. In this call, Excel is binding two columns - Table Qualifer (

TABLE_QUALIFIER (1)) and Remarks (TABLE_REMARKS(5)). Our driver does not support qualifiers, so we return a NULL for that value:

case TABLE_QUALIFIER:

fSqlTypeIn = SQL_CHAR;

rgbValueIn = NULL;

cbValueIn = SQL_NULL_DATA;

Excel makes the SQLTables() call, which successfully returns the entire list of tables from our server product. It then attempts to SQLBind the two columns I mentioned above. The first call to SQLFetch returns with SQL_SUCCESS but the ODBCGetData call fills the QUALFIER column with a NULL. So obviously, Excel doesn't like this value and then ends up quiting and displaying the message above (I think....) This is confirmed by looking at the ODBC trace calls:

So I began to examine the GetInfo calls. There are probably 100 or so that Excel makes. Anything related to qualifiers or cataloging seems to indicate (according to MSDN) that we do not support it. So my thinking was, if Excel properly identifies that we don't support qualifers, why does it attempt to bind the column? Is this a flaw in Excel, or are there some other GetInfo properties that I am not properly setting?

The attributes I am setting (that seem related) are:

SQL_QUALIFIER_LOCATION = 0
SQL_QUALIFIER_USAGE = 0
SQL_QUALIFER_TERM = ""
SQL_CATALOG_LOCATION = 0
SQL_CATALOG_NAME = "N"
SQL_CATALOG_TERM=""
SQL_CATALOG_USAGE=0

Looking at ODBC trace logs, the only GetInfo values that Excel is quering is SQL_QUALIFIER_LOCATION, SQL_QUALIFIER_TERM and SQL_QUALIFIER_USAGE. According to the MSDN documentation, an application is supposed to query SQL_CATALOG_NAME to determine if catalogs are supported. I know it is not, because I don't see it in the ODBC trace log, or my breakpoints in VC2005 are never hit.

I realize this is a HUGE question. I hope that I came across clear and that my question is understandable. I guess what it comes down to is - (maybe some Excel engineers can answer this one) - is this method of loading data into Excel require a Table Qualifier? If not, how can I configure my settings so that it asks for Table Name (as MsQuery does) instead?

Thank you so much for your time and consideration!

So the output would look like :

Report Designer: Need To List Fields From Multiple Result Rows As Comma Seperated List (like A JOIN On Parameters)

Apr 9, 2008

I know I can do a JOIN(parameter, "some seperator") and it will build me a list/string of all the values in the multiselect parameter.

However, I want to do the same thing with all the occurances of a field in my result set (each row being an occurance).

For example say I have a form that is being printed which will pull in all the medications a patient is currently listed as having perscriptions for. I want to return all those values (say 8) and display them on a single line (or wrap onto additional lines as needed).

Something like:
List of current perscriptions: Allegra, Allegra-D, Clariton, Nasalcort, Sudafed, Zantac

How can I accomplish this?

I was playing with the list box, but that only lets me repeat on a new line, I couldn't find any way to get it to repeate side by side (repeat left to right instead of top to bottom). I played with the orientation options, but that really just lets me adjust how multiple columns are displayed as best I can tell.

Could a custom function of some sort be written to take all the values and spit them out one by one into a comma seperated string?
