Load A Dataset To SQL Mobile (Quickly)

Jul 10, 2007

I have five small tables that I need to insert to a SQL CE database.

I am using the 2.0 Compact Framework with the 2.0 System.Data.SqlServerCe.

My table definition is dynamic so I never know it's design.

1- If I go Row by Row using an this.ExecuteNonQuery(_global, par); it takes about 26 seconds to insert 5 tables of 330 rows.

2- If a use

StringBuilder sbColumns = new StringBuilder();

foreach (DataColumn dc in table.Columns)

{

if (sbColumns.ToString() != "")

sbColumns.Append(",");

sbColumns.Append(dc.ColumnName);

}

SqlCeDataAdapter da = new SqlCeDataAdapter("SELECT " + sbColumns.ToString() + " FROM " + _tablename, m_con);

SqlCeCommandBuilder cb = new SqlCeCommandBuilder(da);

da.MissingMappingAction = MissingMappingAction.Passthrough;

da.InsertCommand = cb.GetInsertCommand();

da.Update(table);

da.Dispose();

it takes about 46 seconds.

How Can write it faster or is this fastest it can go?

Thanks

Inserting Dataset Values Into SQL Mobile Using C#

Apr 14, 2006

Hi,

I have developed an application where i am inserting all the records from the dataset into sql mobile 2005. Dataset contains a primary key which is an uniqueidentifier datatype. While inserting the data it is inserting properly into the database but it is changing the value of primary key which is in the dataset.

I am using the below syntax, please suggest me so that to avoid creating a different uniqueidentier key into the database.

conAdap = new SqlCeDataAdapter(strQuery, conSqlceConnection);

SqlCeCommandBuilder cmdBuilder = new SqlCeCommandBuilder(conAdap);

conAdap.AcceptChangesDuringFill = false;

conAdap.Fill(dsData);

conAdap.MissingMappingAction = MissingMappingAction.Passthrough;

conAdap.InsertCommand = cmdBuilder.GetInsertCommand();

conAdap.InsertCommand.Connection = conSqlceConnection;

int r =conAdap.Update(dsData.Tables[0]);

Thank you,

Prashant Mulay

Storing Bulk Data From Dataset To Sql Mobile 2005 Using C#

Apr 3, 2006

hi,

I have developed an application in c#.net 2.0 for Pocket PC. And even i developed a webservice to communicate between sql server 2005 and sql mobile 2005. Webservice returns the data in a dataset format from sql server 2005, but while inserting the data row by row from dataset, it is taking a huge amount of time. I would like to know, is there any way where i can copy the bulk data from dataset into the sql mobile 2005 using c#.And how this can be achieved.

Thank you

Adding Table To Dataset For SQL Server Mobile Causes VS 2005 To Lock Up.

Apr 20, 2006

I am running VS 2005 Professional Edition

Windows XP profession with Service Pack 2

SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition.

WHAT I HAVE DONE:

I have a database running in an instance of SQL Server.

I set this up for merge publication and then set up a SQL Server Mobile Edition Subscription to that publication.  After a few oversights I got everything working.  The Mobile database replicated just fine.  I went back verified all data was there.  Can make queries to it.

PROBLEM:

I set up a new dataset to use tables from the SQL Server Mobile database.  If I drag one of the tables to the dataset, VS 2005 simply stops responding.  It is not using any processor. I click any place on the application and I get the Microsoft Visual Studio Delay Notification saying:

Microsoft Visual Studio is Busy.

Microsoft Visual Studio is waiting for an internal operation to complete.  If you regularly encounter this delay during normal usage, please report this problem to Microsoft.

Well...  It is more than just a delay.  The environment is not using any processor its just sitting here.  And I left it running for 2.5 hours...  so now this is becoming a big source of pain for me because I need to get that dataset working to finish my business logic.  The only option I have is to Kill the process.

Hopefully someone out there can help.

Additional Services running:

IIS (Whatever version comes with Windows XP Pro.  I think 5.1)

SQL Server Agent, SQL Server Integration Services, SQL Server Broswer and SQL Server FullTextSearch

UPDATE:  I am editing this post with an update.

I noticed that my other tables get added to the dataset just fine.  It is when I add one particular table that the entire visual studio simply stops and starts giving the delay notification.  I have no idea why this happens... nor do I see any noticeable difference between this table and the rest of them.  I went back and made sure that all columns types where directly supported by SQL Mobile Edition and they are.

How Quickly Does RAID10 Format?

Mar 20, 2007

We have a server with some pesky RAID5 - which has on 3 separate occasions corrupted the Databases when a drive failed. So we had a maintenance window and decided to change it to RAID10.

We started the configuration at 13:00 today, its now 18:00 and it has done 25% ... is that normal?

Its 8 disks (so 4 mirror-pairs), it will have around 300GB of usable space when its done.

What would happen if we needed to do this in a time critical window? (for this debacle we have moved the database onto the Web Server, so we can survive for a few more hours ...)

Selecting Distinct Records Quickly

Mar 26, 2007

Good day,

I have a table of approximately 10 million rows. The table has 3 field making up the key, namely:
ID, Date, Program

I need to extract all the distinct Program's from the table.
I have don so with:
Select distinct Program from table
This unfortunately takes roughly 2 minutes which is far to long. Is there something I can do to help speed this process up?

Thanks in advance.

Change Database Collation - Quickly

May 19, 2004

There have been several threads about changing a database's collation but none have come up with an easy answer before.
The suggestion before was to create an empty database with the correct collation and then copy the data across.
However this is hard work as you have to populate tables in a specific order in order not to violate foreign keys etc. You can't just dts the whole data.

There follows scripts we have written to do the job. If people use them, please could you add to this thread whether they worked successfully or not.

Firstly we change the default collation, then change all the types in the database to match the new collation.

===================
--script to change database collation - James Agnini
--
--Replace <DATABASE> with the database name
--Replace <COLLATION> with the collation, eg SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS
--
--After running this script, run the script to rebuild all indexes

ALTER DATABASE <DATABASE> COLLATE <COLLATION>

exec sp_configure 'allow updates',1
go
reconfigure with override
go
update syscolumns
set collationid = (select top 1 collationid from systypes where systypes.xtype=syscolumns.xtype)
where collationid <> (select top 1 collationid from systypes where systypes.xtype=syscolumns.xtype)
go
exec sp_configure 'allow updates',0
go
reconfigure with override
go
===================

As we have directly edited system tables, we need to run a script to rebuild all the indexes. Otherwise you will get strange results like comparing strings in different table not working.
The indexes have to actually be dropped and recreated in separate statements.
You can't use DBCC DBREINDEX or create index with the DROP_EXISTING option as they won't do anything(thanks to SQL Server "optimization").
This script loops through the tables and then loops through the indexes and unique constraints in separate sections. It gets the index information and drops and re-creates it.
(The script could probably be tidied up with the duplicate code put into a stored procedure).

====================
--Script to rebuild all table indexes, Version 0.1, May 2004 - James Agnini
--
--Database backups should be made before running any set of scripts that update databases.
--All users should be out of the database before running this script

New To SSIS Need Help In Solving This Problem Quickly

Mar 6, 2008

I am very new to SSIS. Can someone give me a basic out line to this problem. I kind of understand control tasks, data flow, etc... but not in details(watched couple of webcasts). I need to see something like below in action to understand this better.

Basically, I need to process a flat csv file on daily basis and load it into a table. As I am loading the records, I will need to verify(on a key column) to see if record exists in table already. If so then just update the record otherwise insert a new record. When I find a record, I need to possibly do a checksum on a set of columns before I do update. So, only update if these set of columns are different from file vs. table. I also need to keep performance in mind as I am processing this record one at a time looking up this record. I am thinking this should be fairly easy but I am getting little lost in control tasks and dataflow as to what goes on what. By the way I am using visual studio 2005 and sqlserver 2005.

I would appreciate your help. thanks again. I dont mind an example solution file.

SQL Server 2008 :: Index Fragmented Quickly

Apr 8, 2015

I just did index defragmentation for some databases include MSDB . I notice there are 3 indexes from MSDB database that fragmented quickly ( I did rebuild last nite at 10 PM - > fragmentation level becomes zero but today at 9 am it become 80 % ).The indexes are backupsetuuid, backup media family uuid, backupmediasetuuid. I am thinking to set the fill factor for those indexes = 80 respectively.

SQL Server 2008 :: Indexes Fragment Really Quickly

May 1, 2015

This application runs on a SQL Server 2008 R2 database.This application receives messages from an integration module. It has a core table: Table-A. Each message is inserted as 1 row into Table-A. Then when it is processed, that row in Table-A is updated.

There are two environments which are both connected to the same integration. So in both environments, Table-A has exactly the same amount of records inserted and updated. In both environments Table-A has around 80 million rows, with an extra 150,000 rows being inserted and then updated every day.Table-A has 8 indexes. For some reason unknown to me, the 8 indexes fragment really quickly in one environment but not in the other.

e.g. In Environment-1 the index fragmentation ranges from 0 - 19% and this environment has not been re-indexed for over 2 months.BUT a reindex was performed in Environment-2 and only 2 days later the index fragmentation ranges from 72 - 99.93%!

Our DBA has confirmed the re-index in Environment-2 completed successfully and has shown stats before and after the reindex to show that the 8 indexes for Table-A in Environment-2 went down to 0% fragmentation.

My question is, how can the indexes in Environment-2 fragment so much more quickly than the indexes in Environment-1? Both environments are on exactly the same hardware and have exactly the same inbound messages. The database on Environment-1 is actually a clone from Environment-2. The only known differences between the 2 databases is Environment-1 is STANDARD edition - SQL Server 2008 R2 (SP2) whereas Environment-2 is ENTERPRISE edition - SQL Server 2008 R2 (SP1). Could this difference be due to the Service Pack levels or even because one is STANDARD and the other ENTERPRISE?

This is what I have checked so far:

1) In both Environments all 8 indexes have "Set Fill Factor" unchecked and "Automatically recompute statistics", "Use row locks...", "Use page locks..." checked.
2) The "Index Usage Statistics" report in both Environments shows a similar amount of #UserUpdates and #UserScans

End 35 Million Conversations Quickly - Production Issue!

Dec 15, 2006

We have a system that has 35 million conversations piled up. We didn't know to explicitly end the conversation once the processing has completed. Oops. Now, our production box has 35 mm sitting in the table, and we have run into the problem where the amount in sys.conversation_endpoints has exceeded memory and they are being dumped into tempdb, which is killing our disk space, thus bringing the box down. We have fixed the code to end the conversations, but we now have to end the conversations in a hurry. If we select one by one out of the table and end the conversation via END CONVERSATION, it is slow. Very slow. It will finish in a few months. :(

Does anyone know how to get rid of these conversations in a hurry? All of the messages have been applied to our system, so killing the conversations will (should) have no affect on the processed data. Something like a TRUNCATE statement?

Thank you so much in advance,

John Hennesey

SQL Server Mobile 2005 Merge Replication Problem On Windows Mobile 5.0

Aug 8, 2006

Dear ppl,

I am writing an application for a device (MDA Pro T-Mobile) having Windows Mobile 5.0 using

-MS .NET Compact Framework 2.0 SP-1
-SQL Mobile 2005.
-VS 2005 .NET

The application uses Merge Replication. The error occurs in the Synchronise() Method of the SqlCeReplication object.

"SQL Server Mobile encountered problems when opening the database."

repl.AddSubscription(AddOption.CreateDatabase);
repl.Synchronize();

I don't understand why I am having this error. It does create the database on AddSubscription() method but it is failing opening the database on Synchronise(). I have also tried uninstalling and then reinstalling all the SQL Mobile components in the following order.

-sqlce30.wce5.armv4i.cab
-sqlce30.repl.wce5.armv4i.cab
-sqlce30.dev.ENU.wce5.armv4i.cab

However, when i run this application on a device(Dell X50 AXIM) with Pocket PC 2003, it runs fine creating the database and sysnchronising it.

The target platform for the project is Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC SDK.

Does any one have any clue what could be the problem ?

How Do I Quickly Populate A New Database With Place-holder Content?

Apr 28, 2008

I am using SQL server to create a rather complicated client database for a nonprofit organization. I have access to an ancient version of the database in Access format, but would rather create a new database from scratch instead of "up-sizing" the old database. Although the old database is mostly useless, it contains a goldmine of names and addresses that I could use to populate the new database that I'm creating. My question is this: Is there any relatively easy way to cut and paste from external data sources into a new SQL database? For example, I would love to just select twenty rows of "first names" from the old database and then paste that into my new table. Can anyone suggest any quick and easy tricks for populating a new database with place-holder content? Thanks!

SQL Mobile 2005 Replication - SQL Mobile DLL Could Not Be Loaded - Error 28559

Jun 15, 2006

I am migrating a pocket PC application from VS 2003 to VS 2005 and a few weeks ago I hit the following problem when replicating

A SQL Mobile DLL could not be loaded. Reinstall SQL Mobile. [ DLL Name=sqlceca30.dll]

Scanning forums for help I saw that other people had had this problem and one

http://www.eggheadcafe.com/aspnet_answers/NETFrameworkCompactFramework/Feb2006/post25814466.asp

suggested that this problem could be circumvented by getting the replication object early and then continuously using the same object for subsequent replications.

I did this and it works a lot better now but ever so often I get another error which is

Native Error 28559 SQL Mobile encountered problems when opening the database

My only option at this point is to stop and start the application which cures the problem.

Problem Using SQL Server Mobile 2005 With Windows Mobile 5 Application

Mar 23, 2006

Hello,

I am developping a non-managed C++ application for PocketPC using a SQL Server mobile database.

The application is compiled for PocketPC 2003 and uses SQL Server Mobile v2. I use Visual Studio 2005. But I need to compile the application for Windows Mobile 5.0 devices. So I installed the WM5 SDK and had the WM5 into my project configuration.

The "ssceoledb.h" which I include incluses the "transact.h" file. But my problem is that this file is only provided with the PocketPC 2003 SDK and not in the WM5 SDK.
So I cannot use the WM5 configuration project with SQL Server. I also tried with the last SQL Server Mobile 2005 (ie v3.0) and the "ssceoledb30.h" also includes "transact.h".

Did I miss something to install ?
Do you know how I can resolve the problem ?

By advance, thank you for any answer.

Cannot Build SQL Server Mobile Solution For Windows Mobile 5

May 18, 2006

Using MS VS 2005 (incl SQL Server Mobile)
MS Pocket PC 2005 SDK

I am working on a project that builds for Pocket PC on both Mobile 2003 and Mobile 5. The project uses/will use SQL Server Mobile to store local data.

Project created from new with support for both platforms. I include required header files ssceerr30.h and ssceoledb30.h.

Project builds fine in WM2003 configuration, release and debug.

When I build for WM5 the compiler cannot find the header file transact.h. This is included from within ssceoledb30.h. Same as under WM2003.

In WM2003 configuration if I highlight the ssceoledb30.h include in Visual Studio and open the header, it takes me to <Visual Studio dir>SmartDevicesSDKSQL ServerMobilev3.0. I then locate the include for transact.h and do the same, which takes me <Visual Studio dir>SDKPocketPC2003include. The file exists.

If I repeat the above 'browsing' under the WM5 configuration, ssceoledb30.h takes me to a different copy in the WM5 SDK directory. There is no diff between the file here and the other copy used by WM2003. If I attempt to open transact.h - file does not exist.

Fix (which I'm not too sure about, i.e. is it OK?) - If I copy transact.h to the WM5 SDK directory, the project builds.

Why has transact.h disappeared from WM5 SDK?
I can find no ref's to this problem anywhere. Is my installation of the WM5 SDK corrupt? What else could I be missing?
Is there a sample for SQL Server mobile (like the NorthwindOLEDB sample) that comes configured to build for WM5?

Error #25123 A Sql Mobile DLL Could Not Be Loaded. Reinstall SQL Mobile.

Sep 8, 2007

I receive error 25123 on my PPC (audiovox 6600) in a reproducable way (usually) with .net 2.0 application that is using SQL CE that I wrote:

Open the application
Connect to the database
Close the applicaton
Re-Open the application
Connect to the database <-- Error occurs

I will also receive the error if my application isn't the first application launched (or very close to the first to launch).

I don't believe it's a memory issue as according to the memory manager I have plenty of memory:

At boot up only start screen items loaded: 18.46 Used 49.89 Free
Launch Resco File Explorer to click EXE: 19.18 Used 49.18 Free
Launch my application (no DB connection): 23.64 Used 44.71 Free
Connect to the DB and do select count(*) from a table with 0 rows: 26.27 Used 42.08 Free
Close the application (this.Close() on the form: 19.38 Used 48.97 Free
Relaunch App and connect to DB receive error: around 38 Used around 30 free

I was unable to reproduce the issue right now while typing this message, the last sets of numbers are from memory, and include other applications that are currently running.

The only way I have to get SQL CE to load again is to soft reset the PPC. If the application is able to connect to SQL CE at least once it is fine up till I close it and re-open the application. So it either connects and runs great, or it can't connect at all.

Any help in resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated.

I'm currently walking through the published MS tutorial in setting up an SQL Server 2005 Mobile application that subscribes to a publication on SQL Server 2005 to exchange information.

I've gotten almost all the way through... successfully set up the server components, creating the publication, etc. On the mobile side, I've been able run the cab files to install the SQL Mobile components and to create the project, add the reference to the dll, and instantiate an engine object. It compiles.

The step in the tutorial after that, though, where you specify the data source from the "data" menu, I've got a problem. When I try to use the "new connection" dialog from choosing the data connection, "MS SQL Server Mobile Edition" doesn't show up as a choice. I've tried choosing any of the other combinations, and in teh subsequent "Connection properties" section my database, SQLMobile (as in their sample) is available, but I get an error when I choose it and click OK. Clicking on "Test Connection" gives me a connection successful message.

My guess is that something about the Mobile server side components is not installed correctly on my development machine, but honestly I have no idea how to begin to fix it. Has anyone seen this problem before and know how to resolve it?

Your time and any knowledge sharing is greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
-Dana

SQL Server 2012 :: How To Quickly Update / Insert 3M Records In Large Table

Mar 28, 2015

Our system runs a SQL Server 2012 DB, it has a table (table_a) which has over 10M records. Our system have to receive data file from previous system daily which contains approximate 3M updated or new records for table_a. My job is to update table_a with the new data.

The initial solution is:

1 Create a table (table_b) which structur is as the same as table_a

2 Use BCP to import updated records into table_b

3 Remove outdated data in table_a:
delete from table_a inner join table_b on table_a.key_fileds = table_b.key_fields

4 Append updated or new data into table_a:
insert into table_a select * from table_b

As the test result, this solution is very inefficient. Step 3 costs several hours, e.g. How can I improve it?

Creating A Mobile Application With SQL Server Mobile - FIX

Jul 21, 2006

This is a great tutorial and it's a shame one of the more important steps was missed.
In the €œCreate the snapshot user€? section you you find the steps to create the snapshot_agent account. Then in the €œCreate the snapshot folder€? section you find the share and folder permissions. However, at no point do the instructions advise you about adding the snapshot_agent to the SQL Server Logins. The result is that agent cannot perform the initial snapshot but you won't find this out until 50 steps later after Step 10 in the section  €œCreate a new subscription".

To get back on track, openthe Object Explorer's Security section and add the snapshot_agent to your logins. Then using the "User Mappings", set an appropriate level for the SQLMobile database role. Once completed you then need to run the agent.

Right-click the SQLMobile publication you created and select "View Snapshot Agent status". From that dialog you can select "Start" to run the agent. When it completes, you can return to the tutorial section "Create a new subscription" and continue with the tutorial.

Creating A Mobile Application With SQL Server Mobile

Nov 3, 2007

I am studying the tutorial in SQL Server 2005 Mobile Edition Books Online, and the topic is Creating a Mobile Application with SQL Server Mobile. I have got a problem when creating a new subscription after created a new SQL Server Mobile database. And the problem is shown below:

New Subscription Wizard

- Beginning Synchronization (Success)

- Synchronizing Data (100%) (Error)
Messages
* Failure to connect to SQL Server with provided connection information. SQL Server does not exist, access is denied because the IIS user is not a valid user on the SQL Server, or the password is incorrect.
HRESULT 0x80004005 (29061)

* 無法完作業。

- Finalizing Synchronization (Stopped)

- Saving Subscription Properties (Stopped)

Before I have met this problem, I have finished all the task. And I can browse the localhost web site by using anonymous account even I use internet explorer or browse the directly in IIS.

Does anyone can solve it?? Thank you very much~~~

SQL Server 2008 :: Populate One Dataset In SSRS Based On Results From Another Dataset Within Same Project?

May 26, 2015

I have a report with multiple datasets, the first of which pulls in data based on user entered parameters (sales date range and property use codes). Dataset1 pulls property id's and other sales data from a table (2014_COST) based on the user's parameters. I have set up another table (AUDITS) that I would like to use in dataset6. This table has 3 columns (Property ID's, Sales Price and Sales Date). I would like for dataset6 to pull the Property ID's that are NOT contained in the results from dataset1. In other words, I'd like the results of dataset6 to show me the property id's that are contained in the AUDITS table but which are not being pulled into dataset1. Both tables are in the same database.

Integration Services :: Perform Lookup On Large Dataset Based On A Small Dataset

Oct 1, 2015

I have a small number of rows in a dataset, Table 1.  There is a CLOB on a large dataset, Table 2.  They join on a PK.  I would like to retrieve this CLOB and add it to the data flow for Table1.  In short I want to emulate the following:

Table 1:  Small table without CLOB, 10 rows.
Table 2: Large table with CLOB, 10,000,000 rows

select CLOB
from table2
where pk = (select pk from table1)

I want this to return the CLOBs for the small number of rows in Table 1.  The PK is indexed obviously so it should be a fast look up.

Table 1 and Table 2 live on different Oracle databases.  How do I perform this operation efficiently in SSIS?  It seems the Lookup and Merge Join wont do this.
