I have been fighting with this all day. If you can point me in the right direction I'd appreiciate it. I need to load about 500 jpg files into a table. The table has 3 columns an "ID", "Filename" which has the filename of the jpg in it already, but not the unc path, and a ("Photo" Image Datatype)column which is not populated yet. I need to store the Image file in the photo field so that I can run reports in reporting services and so on and so forth. I am not sure how to complete this task.

I want to be able to load and unload, byte-for-byte, a file to and from a field of data type IMAGE in a SQL Server CE database. The files are larger than 8000 bytes so IMAGE appears to be the way to go data type wise.
I'm using VB 2008 but pseudocode for any VS language would be awesome.
I was able to do this without much effort using ADODB and its stream object, fetching a recordset object and updating the appropriate data field one "chunk" of bytes at a time. I cannot for the life of me find a way of doing this using, for example, a SqlCeResultSet.
I've tried using ADODB to connect to a SqlCe SDF database file, using a connection string that I found online, and am able to write action and select queries successfully against the database... but when I try and return a recordset that is updatable, it returns an error. So no help there.
I've searched other threads in the forums, and online in general, and I've found information on loading/unloading graphic files using a memoryStream and the toArray method thereof, but this will not work as many of the files I want to load and unload as BLOBs are not graphical in nature. FileStreams do not implement the toArray method, so I can't just stream an arbitrary file's worth of bytes that way. I also do not want to change the original file in any fashion--e.g., a hash of the source file should be identical to the file after it has been loaded into the data field and then unloaded into a new file.
Any thoughts? Your help is MUCH appreciated!

I need to import data from csv-file to sdf-database (SQL CE 2.0).
When I copy the csv-file to my mobile device, it thakes more than 1 hour. The sdf-File later has a size of 20MB.
If I create an sdf-File (SQL CE 3.0) on the desktop, it just thakes a few minutes.
Is it possible to create an sdf-File (SQL CE 2.0) on the desktop legally?
My clients don't want to by the SQL-Server, because it should be an inexpensive solution.
Or is there another way to create the database with more performance?
Thanks

I have exported a table from a sql 2000 database. This table contained an image column. How can I import this csv file into an sql 2005 database. When I try I get a data overflow error. When I tried defining the import data type to image I get an error this data type is not supported.
I then imported the data using dt_text. This performed the import but changed the data. I would guess it assumed unicode input.
Does anyone know how I can import this correctly.
Thanks

Hello everyone.
I have an interesting problem. We have a SQL database with a field that is an image type. In it are records where the image field are text files. What I would like to do is look at these files and stream them line by line and do some processes for each line read.
So let's say a client machine uploaded a file called myfile.txt into this database.
I would like the asp.net (vb) application tkae this file and read each line and do some processing.
I looked at memorystream and streamreader but just can not figure this out. Can you please help? Thank you Kameron

We need to load a "master" flat file to SQL Server tables. The file is a dump from mainframe. Based on a field called "record_type", each record in the file has different columns. I would use the following as an example (the real file is much more complicated than this, but you get the idea):
For instance, my file has:
20M02221984PAPepsi1000
23F11121987MD1000
01M09182003TXCocacola1100
34F03041970DC900
If "M", the fields are "age", "gender", "birthdate", "state", "salary"
If "F", the fields are "age", "gender", "birthdate", "state", "company", "salary"
We need to load the file (only one file) into two different tables, M_table, and F_table. But I have researched and discovered in DTS the source (TEXT file) can not be queried against to filter on the gender field.
Since each record may have different number of fields, I cannot really load the flat file into a "staging" table.
Does anyone has any idea on how to achieve this? Thanks in advance!!!
