Sp3 On Clustered Sql 2000

Jan 27, 2003

I have read the readme, but just want to be sure. When installing sp3 on a clustered server (1 primary node with 1 secondary node as failover), all you have to do is log into the server that currently has all the resources and run the sp3 setup?

Is there anything else to it? Anything to watch out for?

I only have one instance and there's no replication or analysis services or anything else.

Unfortunately, I don't have another clustered server to test it on (long story - working on it)

Thanks in advance.

Clustered SQL 2000

Dec 15, 2004

I am currently running a SQL 2000 Ent Server sitting on a MSCS running W2K3 Ent Edition.

One of the nodes is giving me problems, and I suspect that it is due to the build.

I want to evict the offending from the cluster and then rebuild the OS from scratch, and then rejoin the cluster.

My question then is how do I install SQL 2000 Server, up to tha same revision as the existing node, on the newly installed node without overwritting any of the existing data?

Clustered SQL Server 2000 To 2005 Upgrade

Jun 12, 2007

I would like to upgrade a production active/passive SQL Server 2000 cluster to SQL Server 2005.

I've read all of the documentation I could find, and doing an in-place upgrade seems to be the way to go. (Despite the fact it scares the hell out of me.

But throughout all the documentation, I've yet to see some simple and fairly important questions answered.

How does the process of upgrading SQL Server work when you're dealing with a cluster?

Do you upgrade one machine then the other? If so, do you upgrade the active node first, or the passive node?

What happens if you're forced to failover from one instance to the other before you've had a chance to upgrade both to 2005? In other words, you failover from 2005 to 2000. Would that even work?

What happens if your upgrades fails for some reason? Is it easy to rollback the installation? If not, will reinstalling SQL Server 2000 cause any issues? Will it remember the previous configuration and simply fix the broken install?

Any help/insight would be greatly appreciated.

Full Text Search On Clustered SQL Server 2000

Jun 21, 2005

I am using SQL Server Enterprise 2000 and have created a full text search on the pubs database as per the instructions below:-

http://www.databasejournal.com/features/mssql/article.php/3441981

However, when I verify the search :-

SELECT title, notes
FROM titles
WHERE CONTAINS (notes, ' "quick easy" ')

no rows are returned.

In the full text tab under the pubs database, my demo catalog is listed, but the Item count and unique key count are both 1. There are 18 records in my titles table.

The full text files location is on my H drive which is set up as a dependency of SQL Server in cluster admin.

In SQL EM->Support Services->Full Text Search->properties, the location of my temporary files was set to C:winnt empgthrsvc. As nothing in cluster admin can see this directory, I changed it to H: emp but still no data is returned by the query. There is no default error log file listed and I can't work out how to change this.

I have checked the Search service is running under the local system account.

I can't find any error messages which may indicate a problem apart from the fact that the T-SQL query doesn't return any data.

Anyone any ideas? Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks in anticipation.

Restore Clustered SQL Server 2000 From Backup On Local Drive

Aug 1, 2007

We are attempting to restore one of our databases from a backup that went to a local drive on the server.
We see the backupset in the list but receive an error that it is not available when we try to use it. When we try to restore from device and select the files the drive letter is not available. When we attempt to enter the path to the file it can't locate it. We don't have space on our SAN to copy the backup there and we can't add the local drive to the cluster resources.

Is there a way to get this backup done?

We are going to use SQL Sever change tracking. The problem is that some of our tables, which are to be tracked, have no primary keys. There are only unique clustered indexes. The question is what is the best way to turn on change tracking for these tables in our circumstances.

DB Design :: Script To Create Table With Primary Key Non-clustered And Clustered Index

Aug 28, 2015

I desire to have a clustered index on a column other than the Primary Key. I have a few junction tables that I may want to alter, create table, or ...

I have practiced with an example table that is not really a junction table. It is just a table I decided to use for practice. When I execute the script, it seems to do everything I expect. For instance, there are not any constraints but there are indexes. The PK is the correct column.

CREATE TABLE [dbo].[tblNotificationMgr](
[NotificationMgrKey] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL,
[ContactKey] [int] NOT NULL,
[EventTypeEnum] [tinyint] NOT NULL,

Data Warehousing :: Difference Between Primary Key With Clustered And Non-clustered Index

Jul 19, 2013

I have created two tables. table one has the following fields,

                      Id -> unique clustered index.
table two has the following fields,
                      Tid -> unique clustered index
Id -> foreign key of table one(id).

Now I have created primary key for the table one column 'id'. It's created as "nonclustered, unique, primary key located on PRIMARY". Primary key create clustered index default. since unique clustered index existed in table one, it has created "Nonclustered primary key".

My Question is, What is the difference between "clustered, unique, primary key" and "nonclustered, unique, primary key"? Is there any performance impact between these?

16 Bit-client Utilities

Hi all,

I am going to upgrade a SQL server 6.5 box to SQL7.0. The 16 bit-client utilities are a prerequisite because there is a 16-bit application and requires some of the database libraries. My question is how does SQL7.0 deal with 16-bit application? In my case, could I upgrade the SQL6.5 box to SQL7.0?

I appreciate any input and help ahead,

Converting A Clustered Index On A PK Identity Field To Non-clustered

Sep 8, 2006

Hi there, I have a table that has an IDENTITY column and it is the PK of this table. By default SQL Server creates a unique clustered index on the PK, but this isn't what I wanted. I want to make a regular unique index on the column so I can make a clustered index on a different column.

If I try to uncheck the Clustered index option in EM I get a dialog that says "Cannot convert a clustered index to a nonclustered index using the DROP_EXISTING option.". If I simply try to delete the index I get the following "An explicit DROP INDEX is not allowed on index 'index name'. It is being used for PRIMARY KEY constraint enforcement.

So do I have to drop the PK constraint now? How does that affect all the tables that have FK relationships to this table?

Thanks

Data Warehousing :: Primary Key Has Both A Clustered And Non-clustered Constraint

Sep 30, 2015

I have a really super slow stored proc that does something simple. it updates a table if certain values are received.

In looking at this the matching is done on the Primary Key, which is set as a Clustered index, looking further I have another constraint, that sets the same column to a Unique, Non-Clustered.

I am not sure why this was done, but it seems to be counter productive.  I have read only references to Which one is better on a primary key, but not can their be both and if it is "Smart".

Is that correct?

And if it is, where can I obtain those client apps?

DTS Version Control Utilities?

Jun 15, 2001

We are looking for utilities to help us manage DTS packages. Specifically to help us track changes in the packages in a fairly fine-grained fashion; several layers deeper than the version listing under package info, for example. Think of it as an object-oriented diff utility if you will, something that can report on changes in a package very specifically; for example, we need to know that step 4 of a package is a SQL widget and the text has changed between versions, and what the changes are. Converting the package to a VB project & versioning the source text doesn't work, for several reasons too complicated to state here.

Is there aything like this available? We would rather buy than build, but I haven't seen anything like this yet. If anyone has experience with such a utility I would appreciate knowing about this. Thanks.

Utilities For Comparing Stored Procedure Results?

I have large stored procedures in SQL Server 2005 that often get updated. Sometimes it is very difficult to recognize how one change could impact the overall results. I would like to have some sample input that I could test during changes and see it compare the data results before & after my changes. This would help me quickly identify if the results are fine to pass through.

So basically I would like an easy way to compare the results of 2 stored procedures. Any suggestions or utilites that would help me do this?

CLR Programming: Best Place To Define Utilities Functions

Apr 27, 2007

Hallo,

I find the CLR integration very handy and I would like to use it in the proper way but I need some helps because is not easy to find "best practice" programming info.

This is what I have to do: from a "period" coming from the DB I have to compute start/End date and save them in the DB.

The computation involves regular expression and several functions that makes several calculations on date type variable.

I have created my UserDefinedFunction class that contains the TV function to return a row with 2 fields (startdate, enddate).
Now my question is: what is the base place to define my utilities functions that perform the computation?
In the same class or it is better to add a new class?

For example I have created a module that contains all the Regular expressions patterns.

Any help is appreciated!

Thankx

Marina B.
