Locate Table To Filegroup
Sep 18, 2005I have created a new filegroup,and i want to add existing table to the file group.
I don't have the appropriate syntax for this.

Unable To Locate Table
Feb 27, 2006I am creating a table on the fly and then trying to associated the table
inside of a cube, using vbs script. For some reason I get a table not found
error when I try and open the cube, but when I look at the SQL server I am
able to see the table and I can insert the table via analysis manager, but I
get Unable to retrieve the list of columns for the <table name> table.
Any Ideas why I am not able to add the table from the analyzer?

Oct 28, 2005I will be moving production SQL databases (one is 25Gb, the other is 3Gb) to a new server. One of the reasons is the old server has only IDE disks while the new has raid (I don't know the configuration yet).
Database 1 has a primary and one other filegroup. I want to spread the disk I/O by moving table A to it's own filegroup on it's own disk.
For the purposes of testing I have
1. brought a database onto a test server (using sp_detach_db, copying the files and attaching using sp_attach_db)
2. created a new filegroup
3. created a physical file on disk, allocated space and associated with my new filegroup
my question is how do I now move table A into this file?

I am running SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition, i want to split my data and indexes on different drives.
In 2000 i had to recreate clustered indexes and non clustered indexes on the correct filegroups to accomplish this.
In 2005 i see there is a ALTER TABLE MOVE TO Filegroup option, thats cool.
Does this effectively do the same as rebuilding the clustered index on the new filegroup? Will this leave the other indexes of the table on the primay filegroup or move them as well ?
If i wanted to also move the non clustered indexes is there a better way to move them that drop and re-create on the new filegroup in 2005, i see the ALTER INDEX statement does not support a move to filegroup option.
In a nutshell what is the best/easiest way to move exisitng table data and indexes to new file groups in Sql Server 2005 Enterprise Edition?

Oct 14, 2015I'm being asked to create multiple filegroups for a new database based on the table type, transaction, lookup, misc... From what i'm reading this doesn't make sense. I'm reading either large tables get file groups, nonclustered indexes when they are about the same size of the data, or a few other reasons...
First of all, we are talking about the same disk (please don't ask me about how it is configured) and I'm not sure yet if restoring separate file groups is even going to be necessary.
So here are my questions (beyond, the test and see what happens) because in the end I'm going to probably have to do what i'm told. So this is for my professional knowledge.
1. Does file groups separated by table type make sense?
2. Should you put tables that are queried often together in the same or different file groups.
3. I'm pretty sure you can't restore single file group for write access, am I correct?
Partitioned View Broken After Moving Table To New Filegroup
Jul 20, 2005I am using SQL Server 2000, SP3.I created an updatable partitioned view awhile ago and it has beenrunning smoothly for some time. The partition is on a DATETIME columnand it is partitioned by month. Each month a stored procedure isscheduled that creates the new month's table, and alters the view toinclude it. Again... working like a charm for quite some time.This past weekend I moved some of the first tables onto a new filegroup. I did this through Enterprise Manager, by going into designmode for the table, then going into the properties for the table andchanging the file group there as well as in all of the indexes. Nowthe partitioned view is no longer updatable. It gives the errormessage: "UNION ALL view '<view name>' is not updatable because apartitioning column was not found."I have extracted the DDL for all of the partition tables and comparedthem and they all look the same. I checked and then double-checked theCHECK constraints to make sure that they were all valid and they are.If I remove the tables that I moved to the new file group from theview, then it is once again updatable, but when I put them back in itfails again.Any ideas? I had created a database in sql server but since then installed windows xp pro and now when i go through the microsoft sql server dsn configuration the database is not valid and therefore i cannot change the default database as it says it doesn't exist.
So then when i type in command prompt use 'db' it says it doesn't exist but when i try to create 'db' it says that the database already exists.
I get the error message, could not locate entry in sysdatabases for 'cti' (database name).
When i look in mysql - data - along with master etc there is my cti.mdf and log files??
I'm stuck???
Is it that the files just aren't registering through sql server???
Please help!

I am trying to locate my SSRS log files to troubleshoot some report problems.
I run Microsoft Visual Studio when designing reports using Report Designer, from a local installation of MSSQL Developer Edition on my notebook. The data source I work on is on a remote SQL Server.
I expect to find the SSRS Log Files on my local installation but I am having trouble locating it.

It had been assuming that SQL Server was installed in the Program Files special directory, but that's not always the case.

looking for some views about where to place these catalogs. The manual says they work more effiecntly on a different drive to the database, which is understandable.
I'm in the processes of designing a new database application which is to be avaiable via the internet, and extranet app. But as I'm planning to host the app and the main database on a shared server but to have the catalogs on another server held in house. The app will have search facilities as its main use. They will obviously be some performace issues, but is this a good idea?

Trying to located the object that the allocation has gone to pot over.

Whats The Best Place To Locate A SQL Server

Im considering several options as to where to place the SQL Server and the web server in our organization's network I would like to hear your insights about the subject and the following options:
Option 1:
Placing the SQL Server inside the domain while the web servers are outside in the DMZ
Pros: SQL Server is in the domain, its harder to hack and its easier to manage inside the domain
Cons:the DMZ must allow access inside the domain so that the web servers can access the SQL Server this is not very secure.
Option 2:
Placing both SQL Server and the web servers in the DMZ
Pros: Fast access from web servers to the SQL Server. no traffic is allowed from the DMZ into the domain so the domain is completely secured.
Cons: The SQL Server is not very secured, its harder to administer it outside the domain.
I would love to hear of more options suggestions

Unable To Locate Security Server

I have installed JDE E1 Demo to my computer, which use SQL Server 2000. And the OS of my computer is Vista Home Prerium.
When I start the JDE, I met an error message, "Unable to locate security server". Cause this version of JDE could be running on XP, I guess if the problem is because of the combination of Vista+SQLServer2K.
I have checked that IIS is ok installed, the computer services are started automatically. But I have one strange phenomenon that after computer started, it seems that the SQL server service manager couldn't find the right server & service, so that server couldn't been started automatically.
Could you make some sense and show me some hint about this problem? Or could you tell me how the SQL service manager find the the server and service?
I have installed SQL Server 2005 in my computer but in different root, in addition.

According to BOL, dbcreator should able to create, restore, backup, and etc.
But when i tried to restore with dbcreator's server role, it displayed this error message

Cannot access the specified path or file on the server. Verify that you have the necessary security privileges and that the path or file exists.
If you know that the service account can access a specific file, type in the full path for the file in the File Name control in the Locate dialog box.
