I recently uploaded my site to the internet. But now, when I try to to log in, I receive the following error message:

caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not

Could anyone please tell me how I can locate the corrupted object?
I've just started with a company that had a web developer in to set up their site. She set it up with Coldfusion and MS SQL Server, uploaded the whole thing to their provider, then disappeared. Then the whole thing got dumped in my lap, and I'm pretty new to both SQL Server and Coldfusion.
My first question is, how can I access the SQL Server database online? It's somewhere on the web host's site, and I have the name of it and the password, but I have no clue how I'm supposed to get a look at the thing. Is there a file I should be able to find? Can anyone provide a clue?
I have created my sqlexpress database in Visual Studio 2005. When i go to SQL Server Management Studio Express I cannot open my database. It is not listed automatically and I get an error 'There is no editor for 'database name' Make sure the application for file type (.mdf) if installed.'
Hi, Have installed the club site starter kit on my pc and all it works well locally. I've used visual studio to publish my site to my third party webhost. Ive created the DB on their server and altered the connection string to:- <connectionStrings> <!--<add name="ClubSiteDB" connectionString="Server=xx.xx.xx.xx;Database=somedatabasename;User ID=user;Password=Password;Trusted_Connection=False" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/>--> </connectionStrings> Now its on the webhosts server i get a System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified). This occurs when im trying to login in or register. Can any one help.

I have a table that has duplicate records with the exception of the ID and I am trying to write a while loop that would go through the table, locate all duplicate records based on a field called LASTNAME.
Hi allI have a large data set of points situated in 3d space. I have a simpleprimary key and an x, y and z value. What I would like is an efficient method for finding the group ofpoints within a threshold. So far I have tested the following however it is very slow.---------------select *from locations a full outer join locations bon a.ID < b.ID and a.X-b.X<2 and a.Y-b.Y<2 and a.Z-b.Z<2where a.ID is not null and b.ID is not null---------------If anyone knows of a more efficient method to arrive at this results itwould be most appreciated. Thanks in advanceBevan
Hello,I not exactly sure how to determine the table when given the followinginformation:--Could not find the index for RID '999999' in index page('1:99999999'), index id ), database (whatever).--Can you someone tell how I use the system tables to determine whattable this index corresponds to? I'm assuming I used sysindexes andsysobjects somehow. Thanks in advance,JGB_DBA
I am unable to connect to an instance of SQL Server on my machine.
Using osql -S np:\.pipemssql$seattlesqlquery -E I can but if i specify the instance name as below it fails. Also, using sqlwb i am not able to connect to the server.
Named Pipes is enabled.
Any ideas??

Problem started after installing SP2 on my eval edition.
Ive been having this issue for a while - i did fix it but after uploading my site i again have this problem. Replicating the same steps as i had before didnt resolve.
I have a PC running WinXP + updates SQL 2005 Express + Updates. A server running SBS Windows 2003 Standard + updates and .Net 3.5 framework/extensions etc. It also has SQL 2000 + SP3 (i think - i say i think as one applications claims to have SQL 2000 SP3, if i right click SQL in the bottom right hand corner and select About it says SQL 2000 8.00 2039)
I created an app in VS 2008 and connected it to the SQL 2000 database on the server. I then have membership and roles enabled in this app too. Works fine on my PC. I decide to upload it to the server for testing. I receive the message:
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)
I played around and fixed it somehow but the problem returns. So far in answer to the questions from the blog:
1) Make sure your server name is correct, e.g., no typo on the name. Im certain im using the correct server name 2) Make sure your instance name is correct and there is actually such an instance on your target machine. [Update: Some application converts \ to . If you are not sure about your application, please try both ServerInstance and Server\Instance in your connection string] Not too sure about this one as far as i know this string allowed me to connect to the database when using it from my local PC <connectionStrings> <add name="SalesConnectionString" connectionString="Data Source=SERVER;Initial Catalog=Sales2008; Integrated Security=True; user=sa; password=;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/> </connectionStrings> 3) Make sure the server machine is reachable, e.g, DNS can be resolve correctly, you are able to ping the server (not always true). If i can connect from my local PC guess this would be ok?? 4) Make sure SQL Browser service is running on the server. I right click SQL in the bottom right hand corner and select two services (Sql Server and Sql Server agent) both are running. 5) If firewall is enabled on the server, you need to put sqlbrowser.exe and/or UDP port 1434 into exception.
Firewall is disabled under services until i can resolve this and then i can test it.
Im lost at this point as where to look for the solution on this one. Ive also checked to see if SQL 2000 Client Network Utitlity has TCP and Named Pipes enabled and it has.
I cant upgrade this instance to SQL 2005 as it wouldnt do it. I can only add SQL 2005 side by side but then im not to sure what to do to get the database transferred over (that'll be another day i think)
I am having a problem connecting to my sql server express instance from a remote computer. I continue to get the above mentioned error. If I connect for the localhost everything works fine however when I try to connect from a different computer on the LAN it gives me this error. I have turned on remote access and still no luck. Any ideas? Any help would be appreciated.
I have been looking at the new DMV's prefixed with dm_exec_....and found a limitation with them.
Books online says sysprocesses is replaced with sys.dm_exec_connections, sys.dm_exec_requests and sys.dm_exec_sessions. The problem I came accross is identifying any sessions connected to a specific database which were idle. This is the sort of thing you need to know if you tried to restore a database and it says the database is in use.

I have been asked to look into the best (read practical, efficient, easy to maintain) scenario for setting up a Reporting Service environment.
Ideally what we are looking at is a SQL Server (maybe more than one) for Production data, this will support SharePoint and most other data sources including linked Oracle sources. Data will be distributed to both internal and external applications from this server, possibly located in the DMZ.
A second server would have Reporting Services on it. The thinking here is that this would possibly help take a load off of the production SQL Server and would also isolate Reporting Services from the Production Data box.
A third server would be a SQL Server with test databases and a place for Reporting Services development and testing.
Does this all make sense?
Are we over looking something?
Will we be causing any problems with SharePoint or anything else by adding the extra "hop" because Reporting Services is on a different server than the database?
Are we gaining anything splitting data and Reporting Services?
I am trying to connect to the AdventureWorks database while using Visual Basic 2005 Express. I am currently using the SQL Server 2005 trial version. Here is the error message:
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL server 2005 this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, Error: 26 - Error locating server/instance specified)
I found some threads in the archives when I researched this problem but couldn't relate the answers directly to my situation. Prior to installing SQL Server 2005 Trial version, I used the SQL Server 2005 Express edition on this machine and did not have any problems connecting to databases. I removed the express edition prior to installing the trial version.
In the Visual Basic "Add Connection" dialog box, I leave the default radio button checked ("Use Windows Authentication") as I have always done.
Any help in getting this resolved will be appreciated.
I am trying to locate the mdf,log and bak files but I am not seeing folder (MSSQL10_50.MSSQLSERVER) the only folder I see there are 90,100,110 and Report builder.
I located the properties of one of the databases below right clicking the properties on SSMS, but when I physically go there, I don't find that folder.
I'm currently learning my way around with SQL Server 2005 and asp.net 2.0, and for this I wrote a little site that uses SQL Server for it's backend.
I developed it on my laptop, and it works great, until I deployed the website to my test server, so it's visible to the outside world.
The instance I try to access any page that invokes the database, I get the following error: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified).
The server doesn't differ much from my laptop setup, except that it accepts connections through named pipes and TCP/IP and has the Network Service as a user(I also tried running the website under Administrator privileges, just to test it out).
Both IIS and the SQL Server running on the same machine(Windows 2003 Server SP1), and the SQL server accepts connections from a locally running SQL Management Studio Express instance. However: It does not accept connections from my laptop, which resides outside the domain. The server is set to use Windows Authentication for log ins.
What am I doing wrong here?

First-time poster (and very new to ASP.NET, so please be patient) - I am using VS 2005. I have an ASP.Net 2.0 app that is using Forms Authentication and a Login server control with AspNetSqlMembershipProvider. I have an instance of ASPNETDB.MDF in the App_Data directory on my local machine and all works well (or at least as expected). I used the Copy Web Site function to port the app (including the ASPNETDB.MDF files) to my production platform, where I encounter the error mentioned in the subject line. I have found posts (both here and other forums) that mention enabling TCP/IP using Surface Area Configuartion Utility, SQL Server Browser are exempt from firewall, and a few other things. My production machine does not have SQL SVR 2005 installed nor SQL SVR Express. Do I have to install SQL Server Express onto my production platform in order to resolve this, or is there another means (something in SQL Server 2005 Management Studio on my local machine) that will enable me to do this on the production machine? Also, I have been told that it is possible to use a database on another machine as the data store for authentication. Does anyone know how to do that? This would make the first question moot. Thanks in advance!
I have tried to find the solution for the subjectline(provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) and i got the solution from the below link but when I set my web.config file according to the posted help i couldn't resolve it kindly help me for thatmany thanks,http://www.aquesthosting.com/HowTo/Sql2005/SQLError26.aspx

Ok can somebody please explain to me why only 1/2 my project is getting this error. I am working with SQLExpress on a remote windows 2003 box. The sql server has its service running and the browser is also running. The server has been set to allow remote connections and to accept TCP/IP and Named Pipes. Now, the website uses asp.net membership and roles to allow the users to login, which actually works. So I know that there are no errors in that connection string. However, all the data acess code is compliled as a sepeate class library thats referenced in the bin directory. When calling those methods to beind to a control in code, is where i run into this error. The class library connection string in the app.config file is exactly the same as the connection string in the web.config...i have checked permissions as well, im at a loss to the reason why this is not working....its probably something simple, but im not finding it.
On a seperate note - How do i get the remote database to show up in the server explorer on vs2008, i have tried putting in the ip addressinstance name, and a combo of there items, it will not connect. I have a feeling the two issues are connected. Also fyi, on the remote box, I am able to login with the sql studio express, so im not really sure exactly wuts gong on. Both items are really important and i need to be able to use both of them. Thanks, Jeremy
Hello, I have deployed myWebApp on the IIS. All went well now, but the site does not have any connection with the database. I've already done a search on the error 26, which gave me alot of hints about solving the problem.Still I'm gettting this error. I already enabled the remote connections through the sql surface area configuration.Could it have something to do with the fact that I use LINQ? I can't find any connectionstring to modify anywhere ... Help would be appreciated.

I made a simple ASP.NET 2.0 Website that uses memberships, roles, and access to MS SQL Server 2005 database. Everything works fine on my development computer (WinXP Pro). When I deployed this Website on another computer (WinXP Pro) and tried to access the main page from the same computer, I get the error below. I disabled the Windows Firewall (the only one I use), I ensured that SQL Server Browser is Active and Running, and I changed Remote Connections in SQL Server 2005 Surface Area Configuration to use Local and Remote connections for all the components. In my Web.Config I used: <connectionStrings><add name="sqlConnString" connectionString="Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|DBdemo.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/></connectionStrings> Any idea why am I getting the following error?
