I've just started with a company that had a web developer in to set up their site. She set it up with Coldfusion and MS SQL Server, uploaded the whole thing to their provider, then disappeared. Then the whole thing got dumped in my lap, and I'm pretty new to both SQL Server and Coldfusion.
My first question is, how can I access the SQL Server database online? It's somewhere on the web host's site, and I have the name of it and the password, but I have no clue how I'm supposed to get a look at the thing. Is there a file I should be able to find? Can anyone provide a clue?

I have created my sqlexpress database in Visual Studio 2005. When i go to SQL Server Management Studio Express I cannot open my database. It is not listed automatically and I get an error 'There is no editor for 'database name' Make sure the application for file type (.mdf) if installed.'

Have installed the club site starter kit on my pc and all it works well locally. I've used visual studio to publish my site to my third party webhost. Ive created the DB on their server and altered the connection string to:-

I am unable to connect to an instance of SQL Server on my machine.
Using osql -S np:\.pipemssql$seattlesqlquery -E I can but if i specify the instance name as below it fails. Also, using sqlwb i am not able to connect to the server.
Named Pipes is enabled.
Any ideas??

Problem started after installing SP2 on my eval edition.
Ive been having this issue for a while - i did fix it but after uploading my site i again have this problem. Replicating the same steps as i had before didnt resolve.
I have a PC running WinXP + updates SQL 2005 Express + Updates.
A server running SBS Windows 2003 Standard + updates and .Net 3.5 framework/extensions etc. It also has SQL 2000 + SP3 (i think - i say i think as one applications claims to have SQL 2000 SP3, if i right click SQL in the bottom right hand corner and select About it says SQL 2000 8.00 2039)
I created an app in VS 2008 and connected it to the SQL 2000 database on the server. I then have membership and roles enabled in this app too. Works fine on my PC. I decide to upload it to the server for testing. I receive the message:

I played around and fixed it somehow but the problem returns. So far in answer to the questions from the blog:
1) Make sure your server name is correct, e.g., no typo on the name.
Im certain im using the correct server name
2) Make sure your instance name is correct and there is actually such an instance on your target machine. [Update: Some application converts \ to . If you are not sure about your application, please try both ServerInstance and Server\Instance in your connection string]
Not too sure about this one as far as i know this string allowed me to connect to the database when using it from my local PC

I right click SQL in the bottom right hand corner and select two services (Sql Server and Sql Server agent) both are running.
5) If firewall is enabled on the server, you need to put sqlbrowser.exe and/or UDP port 1434 into exception.
Firewall is disabled under services until i can resolve this and then i can test it.
Im lost at this point as where to look for the solution on this one. Ive also checked to see if SQL 2000 Client Network Utitlity has TCP and Named Pipes enabled and it has.
I cant upgrade this instance to SQL 2005 as it wouldnt do it. I can only add SQL 2005 side by side but then im not to sure what to do to get the database transferred over (that'll be another day i think)

I am having a problem connecting to my sql server express instance from a remote computer. I continue to get the above mentioned error. If I connect for the localhost everything works fine however when I try to connect from a different computer on the LAN it gives me this error. I have turned on remote access and still no luck. Any ideas? Any help would be appreciated.

I have been looking at the new DMV's prefixed with dm_exec_....and found a limitation with them.
Books online says sysprocesses is replaced with sys.dm_exec_connections, sys.dm_exec_requests and sys.dm_exec_sessions. The problem I came accross is identifying any sessions connected to a specific database which were idle. This is the sort of thing you need to know if you tried to restore a database and it says the database is in use.
I wonder if this is a bug or by design?

I have been asked to look into the best (read practical, efficient, easy to maintain) scenario for setting up a Reporting Service environment.
Ideally what we are looking at is a SQL Server (maybe more than one) for Production data, this will support SharePoint and most other data sources including linked Oracle sources. Data will be distributed to both internal and external applications from this server, possibly located in the DMZ.
A second server would have Reporting Services on it. The thinking here is that this would possibly help take a load off of the production SQL Server and would also isolate Reporting Services from the Production Data box.
A third server would be a SQL Server with test databases and a place for Reporting Services development and testing.
Does this all make sense?
Are we over looking something?
Will we be causing any problems with SharePoint or anything else by adding the extra "hop" because Reporting Services is on a different server than the database?
Are we gaining anything splitting data and Reporting Services?

I found some threads in the archives when I researched this problem but couldn't relate the answers directly to my situation. Prior to installing SQL Server 2005 Trial version, I used the SQL Server 2005 Express edition on this machine and did not have any problems connecting to databases. I removed the express edition prior to installing the trial version.
In the Visual Basic "Add Connection" dialog box, I leave the default radio button checked ("Use Windows Authentication") as I have always done.
Any help in getting this resolved will be appreciated.

Not sure if this is the right forum to post this question to, so if it's not, please accept my apologies.
I'm working in SQL Server 2005 with a database that was migrated to 2005 from SQL Server 2000. I have to alter a trigger on a table for some functionality changes, and when I modify the trigger and then access it through the application the database is working with, I receive this error:
There was a error in the [stored procedure name] procedure. Error Number: -2147217900 Error Description: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]The definition of object '[trigger name]' has changed since it was compiled.
[stored procedure name] and [trigger name] are where the actual names appear in the message.
I've tried running sp_recompile on the trigger, stored procedure, and table that are associated with this, and nothing works. I have dropped the trigger, which allows the save process to complete (but doesn't perform the required functionality, of course), and then re-created the trigger, but the error message still comes up. The compatibility level for the database is SQL Server 2000 (80) (as it was migrated from SQL Server 2000 as I mentioned above).
Has anyone seen this, and if so, how can I fix it?

Help! I have posted this before and I had hoped that the VS2005 SP1 would help my problem. It didn't. My code is shown below. I have dropped a sqlconnection, sqldataadapter and a strongly-typed dataset from the toolbox onto the component designer for my page and written my code. It compiles without any errors but at runtine I receive the system error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." The error occurs at the first line where the sqldataadapter is mentioned. I have shufflled the code and the error still occurs at first mention of the dataadapter. I have set parameters to a simple string such as "myemail." It hasn't helped. I have used the "Dim" statement as "Dim DaAuthorLogin as System.Data.SqlClient.SqlDataadapter and Dim DaAuthorLogin as New ......) at the start of the private sub generated by the event requiring the data. Nothing helps. Here is my simple code to select data from a sqlserver 2000 database. Why do I continue to get this error?

I am trying to develop a custom algorithm. I have implemented and tested training methods, however I fail at prediction phase. When I try to run a prediction query against a model created with my algorithm I get:

I know this is not very descriptive, but I have seen that algorith doesn't even executes my Predict(..) function (I can test this by logging to a text file)
So the problem is this, when I run prediction query DMPluginWrapper gives exception -I think- even before calling my custom method.
As I said it is not a very descriptive message but I hope I have hit a general issue.

I am trying to send some data back to our as/400 from SQL server. Before I do so I need to delete entries from the table. I have an odbc connection set up and have used it sucessfully in a datareader compoenent but but when I try to use it for a delete SQL task it give me the followign error. what am I doing wrong? I even tried hardcoding in the system name/library name.

Please help me on this issue. I'm a new SSIS User.
I've installed Sql Server 2005 Developer Edition
When I create a new SSIS Project in Business Intelligence Development Studio,
I get the following message:
"Microsoft Visual Studio is unable to load this document: Object reference is not set to an instance of an object".
Error loading 'package.dtsx'bject reference is not set to an instance of an object
When I try to debug the package, I get the below message:
parameter Component(System.Design) is null.
I've uninstalled and installed SS 2005 several times, yet the problem persists.
Please help.

i have a table in MS Access with CandidateId and Image column. Image column is in OLE object format. i need to move this to SQL server 2005 with CandidateId column with integer and candidate Image column to Image datatype.
its very udgent, i need any tool to move this to SQL server 2005 or i need a code to move this table from MS Access to SQL server 2005 in C#.

Just installed VS 2005 & SQLServer 2005 clients on my workstation. When trying to create a new Integration Services Project and start work in the designer receive the MICROSOFT VISUAL STUDIO 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object.' dialog box with message "Creating project 'Integration Services project1'...project creation failed."
Previously I had SQLServer 2000 client with the little VS tool that came with it installed. Uninstalled these prior to installing the 2005 tools (VS and SQLServer).
I'm not finding any information on corrective action for this error.
Any one have this problem and found the solution?

Each time I press submit to insert data into the database I receive the following message. I use the same code on another page and it works fine. Here is the error:

Some previous forums stated checking the webconfig file but the web config file look okay. Is there another way to fix this.
