Locating Database Online

I've just started with a company that had a web developer in to set up their site. She set it up with Coldfusion and MS SQL Server, uploaded the whole thing to their provider, then disappeared. Then the whole thing got dumped in my lap, and I'm pretty new to both SQL Server and Coldfusion.
My first question is, how can I access the SQL Server database online? It's somewhere on the web host's site, and I have the name of it and the password, but I have no clue how I'm supposed to get a look at the thing. Is there a file I should be able to find? Can anyone provide a clue?

I have created my sqlexpress database in Visual Studio 2005. When i go to SQL Server Management Studio Express I cannot open my database. It is not listed automatically and I get an error 'There is no editor for 'database name' Make sure the application for file type (.mdf) if installed.'
Any help or suggestions will be appreciated.

We have SQL cluster installed on top of windows cluster on VM environment. Node1 and Node2 under Windows Failover Cluster. SQL instance is currently on node2 the instance is up and running, but SQL Cluster service remains online pending and it restarts the instance on every 5 minutes.
SQL Browser service are running successfully.TCP/IP ports are enabled and configured.If we start the SQL server agent it is on for seconds and stopped immediately  .Cluster Service is attempt to connect to the SQL service every few minutes (setting in SQL cluster resource) for the IsAlive check, if this fails then the SQL resource is restarted even if the instance was online. Hope this is what happening exactly.

I have my first small SQl Server 2005 database developed on my localserver and I have also its equivalent as an online database.I wish to update the local database (using and asp.net interface) andthen to upload the data (at least the amended data, but given thesmall size all data should be no trouble) to the online database.I think replication is the straight answer but I have no experience ofthis and I am wondering what else I might use which might be lesscomplicated. One solution is DTS (using SQL 2000 terms) but i am notsure if I can set this up (1) to overwrite existing tables and (2) notto seemingly remove identity attributes from fields set as identities.I know there are other possibilities but I would be glad of advice asto the likely best method for a small database updated perhaps onceweekly or at less frequent intervals,Best wishes, John Morgan

Hi,
One of our database size 90 Gb was backed up and restored on a standyby server with NoRecovery option .A Stored Procedure was written to do production Database transaction log Backup every 15 min and restore the Tlog File on Standby server.
Once the last transaction log file is restored on standby server the tlog file is deleted.
Now due to some reason the restore tlog job failed but the tlog file got deleted.
Now till we will not restore the last database backup we will not be able to start the restore tlog job.
Now the database is in restoring mode.Is there any methord to get that database online without any transactionlog.

If I want to let people come to a wesite and login and let them look at information pages and I also want the database to be used by staff of the organization.
So I would have people logging in over the Internet as well as logging in local to use the same database, but the online people would be restrickted to only some of the pages.
What would the basic database design look like.

I'm currently developing an online questionnaire system for mydissertation and I have now come across a few problems. I'm developingan online approach recommendation system. The basic feature is that aclient will answer a number of questions online and based on theresults an approach will be recommended.There will be four pages with 5 questions on each site, this will allbe sent to a database and based on this an approach will be generated.I'm using mysql, php and html w/javascript for developing this but theproblem I have is that I'm not sure how the calculation andsuggestions will be coded. I've though of putting an average result into the database and then retrieve a ‘matching' approach based on thiswith querying using php.Any other recommendation is MUCH appreciated.many many thanks!

I'm not experienced with SQL Server 2005.I've got a live copy of my database running on the web server.I've got another copy running on my desktop that I make changes to.Whats the best way to sync between the two so:1. I don't have to take the application offline2. I don't loose any data from the live database3. But I can implement changes to tables and/or add new tables

I am using VB with Visual Studio Express. I am new to these tools. I have SQL Server 2005 Express installed on my machine. I think that I have the right version. I am just using Express for taking classes and teaching myself on my machine.
When I follow the examples in the book, I keep getting this error when I go to my ASP.NET configuration and click on the security tab to add myself as a user.
"There is a problem with your selected data store. This can be caused by an invalid server name or credentials, or by insufficient permission. It can also be caused by the role manager feature not being enabled. Click the button below to be redirected to a page where you can choose a new data store. The following message may help in diagnosing the problem: The database filename can not contain the following 3 characters: [ (open square brace), ] (close square brace) and ' (single quote) " -- end of erro msg.
I have an apostrophe in my last name. Could that be what is causing it? Is it creating a db based on my name or something? Or do I have the wrong version of SQL Server Express installed.

I have Enterprise Manager on my local machine. For the last twelvemonths it has been connecting without problem to my online SQL Serverdatabase provided by my ISP.Three weeks ago the ISP applied some sort of extra securityarrangements to their SQL Server to allow access only through port1433. they have told me to configure an alias using Network Client andto register this alias in the usual way using my Enterprise Manager.My problem is that despite creating the alias in exactly the wayinstructed I just cannot connect to online database. I keep gettingthe SQL Server does not exist or access denied when I try to connect.As a result of advice obtained I have tried using the lite version ofthe 'littleADmin' tool available fromhttp://www.mylittletools.net/scripts/en/mla_sql/Using this useful looking software I find I cannot connect to theonline SQL database when it is installed on my own local machine butif I install it on my website it does connect without problem to myonline SQL. If you take a database offline to prevent users from accessing it, and then restart the server, will the database be back online when the server starts up?
If so, is there an option to prevent this from happening so that a database taken offline will remain offline until it is manually put online again by an administrator?

Dear All,
One of my users created a MSDE database and did not realise that the limit is 2GB. I can not access the database. Is there anyway I can recover it?
They do not have a backup.
Could I create a new database in Standard Edition and then attach the Data and log files from the MSDE database?
Would that work?

I have an online SQL Server database provided by an ISP. I do not havepermission to create a backup device and I understand this is normalpractice.I am not using Enterprise Manager to administer the online database.I know I can back up the structure of the database using SQLscripts.My question is:How do I back up on my own machine the data contained in the onlinedatabase tables I have created? Hi,I wonder if anyone can help with the following on a fee paying basisfor the the design or development of some type of script or utility orpiece of code to do the following work.I wish to retrieve some data from an online database that is in thepublic domain. The online database has a search facility that matchesthe entry (name) in a search box then returns a screen stating that amatch has been found or not found.If a match is found there is a button to click that proceeds to thescreen containing the data which is simply two names. It is these twonames that I wish to retrieve and store them in something like a textfile where they are associated with the original entry (name) used inthe search box.I have a list of the entries for the search box that can be suppliedin sample format for testing as a columnar text file or commadelimited file or a spreadsheet.. I would need the procedure toprocess the list of search entries, retrieve the data then move on tothe next one in the list. Obviously, if a match was not found then theprocess would need to move on the the next entry in the list withperhaps a message saying "No Match" until the entire list wasprocessed.The PC I hope to run the process on is a Windows XP machine and if Ineed to purchase any particular software that is necessary for the jobthen I am quite willing to do so. SQL server, by-mistake I updated values of a column in a database hosted online, is there any way undo the transaction. I didn't created any backup of the database. I read that still it can be recovered through the .ldf (log file) but unable to access it. Is there anyway to get access of the Log file or is there any way to recover the data.

I would like to ask if there will be a write and concurrency issue if i would create an online application with just one user connecting to the database, just like most open source php/mysql that can be downloaded
i.e
Setup 1. I will grant a single user that will connect to a database and will be set to a config.inc.php file and then create a table users (userid, username, password) and this table will be used for the application authentication and access control.
Setup 2. or is it much better to grant users that will connect to the database and have the table users for access control of the application?
to further illustrate my query:
Setup 1 would be:

user a@ipadd --> db1 --> userid mary --> myOnlineApp
user a@ipadd --> db1 --> userid john --> myOnlineApp
user a@ipadd --> db1 --> userid paul --> myOnlineApp
and Setup 2 would be:

Hi All, first post.
I have done a bit of searching around and cant find a clear answer to this question.
Current Setup
Desktop application (c#) that connects to a SQL Server 2005 express database on the same local network as the application (currently 3 users)
It is only a very small company and has just taken on their first remote worker, but expects to take on another 6-8 over the next few months. They have asked for the database to be moved online.
The application was written in such a way that everything has been done using no stored procs, or views, it is all native SQL.
This will be my first DB hosted online and before I go ahead and do anything I just wanted to make sure what I have to do is correct, sorry if this is a very basic question, although I have been programming for a long time, I have never had the chance to do any online databases before.
Will this work.
1.Find a SQL Server 2005 Hosting company.
2.Move the database to the server.
3.Setup the users permissions.
3.Alter the connection string in the application to point to the new location.
So the only thing that would change would be a new connection string in the application preferences?
Or am I living in a dream world, because nothing is ever that simple.
One thing I am worried about is the security/visiblity of the database and data as it travels from the server to the client and back.

Hi,
Have installed the club site starter kit on my pc and all it works well locally. I've used visual studio to publish my site to my third party webhost. Ive created the DB on their server and altered the connection string to:-

(provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified).
This occurs when im trying to login in or register.

I got this error when i uploded my web site on web server. I provided the connection string in web.config provided by my web server.Connection string is ok..i dont know what is wrong....searched the net a lot but could not find any solution.
