Location Of SQL-datafile After Installation Of VB 2005 DB-application
Aug 29, 2007
Hello Experts,
I am relatively new to VB 2005 and SQL Express. I have a question concerning where I can find the SQL-database file (*.mdf) after I have installed (published) my VB 2005 database-application (the *.mdf file was created by Visual Studio Express?). It seems it is nowhere in the disk of the of pc it is installed on. So, what happens to *.mdf file after installation of the application, in what way I can connect to the *.mdf file after the application - the file is part of - is published?
Hi, Is there any way to change the location for the datafile. I need to change the drive from say c to d because it is filling up. Is there anyway to do this or do I have to recreate the database from scracth. I have a whole lot of data in the database already.
I'm trying to install the Eval copy of SQL Server 2005 on a Win2k Server computer. The error message that
"The drop location is missing file(s) that allow setup to determine how a multi instance product should be installed. Setup cannot continue, please repair the drop and try again."
When the battery dies the SQL Ce installation vanishes. Especially the following dlls which were copied into the Windows directory during installation are getting vanished when the battery dies.
I guess this is because of the fact that RAM content vanishes when the power goes off.
Is there a way i could install the SQL CE in the Storage Card?
I can install the Compact Framework in the Storage Card but not the SQL CE.
I have installed the CF, My application in the Storage Card. Just because of this SQL CE does not allow me to choose the installation directory, i have to install the SQL CE everytime the battery dies out.
Is it possible to set the log file location during installation? I don't see an option under Advanced. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I was trying to install the Developer Edition of 2005 last night, and ran into a strange issue. I specified F:SQLDev as the installation directory, but the installer still refused to install claiming lack of disk space. Checking the disk cost, I saw that it was still asking for about 1.5 GB on my C: drive. I double checked, and I did specify the installation directory as F:SQLDev.
Is there documentation somewhere that describes why it would require space on the boot drive? Or am I missing a switch somewhere or something?
I am using SQL Server configuration indirectly with the connection to it configured in an XML configuration file with the location of the XML file and the connections all being different between development and production. I deploy to the file system using the SSIS Deployment Manifest/Package Installation Wizard.
It seems that sometimes the path to the XML config file is updated in the deployed packages and sometimes it is not.
When the path is updated, all connection strings (as displayed in the Connection Managers section of the Execute Package Utility) are displaying the new values as well.
When it is not, it looks for the XML file in the development location and since it cannot find it all configurations still point to the development connections.
Does anyone know of any conditions when the location of the XML config does not get updated and when it doesn't?
When adding a node to a SQL Server 2012 Standard edition cluster, how I do I identify the location for SQL server shared components and the rest of the SQL Server installation binaries?
When adding a node to a SQL Server 2012 Standard edition cluster all the binaries went to the C: drive default location. We put those files on a different drive when installing the first node. What needs to be done so both nodes have the binaries on the same drives and folders?
Is it possible to force the SLQ 2005 Client Components to be installed into a diffrent location other than the default location?
What I'm trying to do is run the setup command though the command line to create an unattended client installation with all the client componets to a diffrent location that
Thanks, Any information or examples would be great!
I'd like to install SQL SERVER 2005 Express Edition ,I begin to install it from DVD but during the installation it dosn't ask me about any instance and after installation there isn't SQLExpress service and I can't use sql server .(there are not MSSQL and Binn directory in sql server 2005) but when I install visual studio 2005 and after that I install sql server 2005 it ask me for name of instance and with this way every thing is ok and I use sql server completely.
I 'd like to know the complete installation of sql server 2005 is depend on installation of visual studio 2005 befor it ?if not how can I introduce any instance after installation of sel server 2005 .
When I try to install SQL server 2005 developer edition I get an error about:
Application popup: setup.exe - Application Error: The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application.
I have Cisco security agent and Symantec AntiVirus running on the machine, so they maybe interfering with the install. Unfortunately, I cannot shut them off.
Any ideas on what is causing the issue and how to verify that is the problem? Thx.
Hi all, How to package sql server database as part of our custom application (VB application) using install shield or any software. That setup should detect the presence of sql server. If sql server is not present in the client machine, then our set up should install the sql server and deploy our database. If sql server is present in the client machine, then our set up should install our database alone. How to do that. Please help me. Regards, S.Sevugan.
My first installation of SQL 2005 requires the use of Reporting Services. Is Reporting Services always installed on the same server as SQL Server 2005 or do I have the option of having it run outside of the database server? If I have this option, is this something that Microsoft recommends? I'm concerned with having IIS and SQL Server on the same server, however if that's the new 2005 best practice then there's not much I can do about it.
During installation of SQL Server 2000 I set the default location for data files as D:MySQLServer which resulted in the location D:MySQLServerMSSQL.
I then installed SQL Server 2005. I do not remember being given the option of specifying location for the Data Files. Then I read that the location for named instances is deteremined by the first installation of SQL Server. The location for the data files for SQL Server 2005 turned out to be MSSQL.1 but under C:Program Files.....
I want the default location for SQL Server 2005 to be under D:MySQLServer, something like D:MySQLServerMSSQL.1. How do I do I change the default location for the Data Files.
I would like to change the default location where new databases are created.
In Server Management Studio, I right clicked my instance and selected Properties. I selected the Database Settings option and am presented with an option to change the Database Default Location (the location for databases and logs can be changed here). If I change the paths for the DB's and logs, and create a new DB, the new files are saved to the new default location paths that I just entered.
My question is this:
If I change these paths, will my system databases (master, model, msdb, tempdb) still be accessible and usable by SQL server? I don't need (want) to change the location of these files, only all my other databases and logs.
I have just installed SQL Server 2005. I was not given a choice during installation (that I remember seeing anyway) about which drive I wanted to place the default SQL instance on.
It ended up on C: and I needed it on D:.
So my questions are:
Is there a way to move it to D: that is easier than the way you had to go about it in SQL 2000? Is there a way to do it during setup so I can avoid this in the future?
I am developing an application that uses Access database (mdb file) to store the user data. The user of this application is not interested in the database file (to view in MS Access Environment). Does the user machine requires MS Access installation to run my application or just some couple of dlls (OleDB driver, Access DB Engine,..) should be enough to run my application?
I'm attempting to use RDA to synchronize a pocket pc emulator with SQL Server 2005 database by following tutorial http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa454892.aspx, which uses AdvWorksMobile database that comes with SQL Server 2005.
When get to testing of "To test application features " ( step 4 of the merge replication setup lab ), I am receiving SQLCe Exception errors.
ORIGINALLY, I was able to deploy an application and view the local database on the emulator, but once I clicked "InitSinc" button, I received an error.
"Failure to connect to SQL Server with provided connection information. SQL Server does not" exist, access is denied because the SQL user is not a valid user on the SQL Server, or the password is incorrect. Found this error listed in Server Agent Errors log http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms172357.aspx, but it wasn't very helpful since it doesn't provide any suggestions on fixing the problems.
I am brand new to SQL CE Server , mobile programming and .NET framework in general so please bare with me
All the connections / security settings, etc that were set up were taken from a tutorial so I am not sure what SQLCeServer is complaining about. Reading up on the error on the web didn't help, it all pointed to making sure that the snapshot folder had correct permissions set up. I verified that MACHINENAMEUISR_MACHINENAME guest user had Read rights to the database so I don't think that piece is the problem. Otherwise ,Merge publication has been setup in Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio by following the tutorial.
I am trying to run this sync on my home pc so there should be no issues with any user permissions
I have IIS installed
I did NOT have SQL Server Agent running in management studio at this time
I am trying to run this tutorial on an XP machine, which is my regular home PC so I dont think there are any special networking settings to consider
I am able to hit http://localhost/AdvWorksMobile/sqlcesa30.dll from my pc OK, but when I try to hit it from a cradled emulator ( after replacing "localhost" with "MACHINE_NAME" ), Internet Explorer on the emulator gives me a "Cannot Connect With Current Settings" error message. This part wasn't part of tutorial but decided so not sure if I am supposed to be able to hit it from my emulator..so I am not sure if the fact that I can't hit it is related to the problem. AFTER STARTING SQL SERVER AGENTin Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, I killed the application, and after relaunching it, it hits "The Specified table does not exist [Vendor]" error. This time it doesn't even launch first - that is I dont even get to pressing "InitSinc" button. Debugger is showing that this error is hit on the following line in AdvWorksMobile.AddWorksDataSetTableAdapters
int returnValue = this.Adapter.Fill(dataTable);
I am not sure why the errors changed on me after starting SQL Server Agent. What can I do to fix this connection problem?
Can multiple instances of SQL 2005 Express attach to the same database files on a network share? I have seen this done before with MSDE where the database files are stored on the server, but instead of having a SQL server running on the network and then connecting to it, only the database files exist on the network share and the users connect through MSDE running on the local machine. Is this possible with SQL2005Express? I do not have the ability to share an SQL instance from one workstation to another nor do I have the ability to install an instance on the corporate server. Is it as simple as creating the database and storing the files on the share then attaching the database to the SQL Instance on each workstation?
If a database consists of more than one datafile, how does SQL Server use the space in these datafiles ?, does it fill up the first one then move to the next and so forth, or does it use up pages across all the files evenly ?.
alter database bdj add file (name ='bdjfg1', filename='d:db djfg1.ndf' ) to filegroup bdjfg;
alter database bdj modify file (name='bdjfg1', OFFLINE);
alter database bdj modify file (name ='bdjfg1', filename='d:db ewdestdjfg1.ndf' ); --Msg 5056, Level 16, State 4, Line 1 --Cannot add, remove, or modify a file in filegroup 'bdjfg' because the filegroup is offline.
alter database bdj modify filegroup bdjfg READWRITE; --Msg 5056, Level 16, State 3, Line 1 --Cannot add, remove, or modify a file in filegroup 'bdjfg' because the filegroup is offline.
Yes, yes and should have read the cautions section saying:
"Use this option only when the file is corrupted and can be restored. A file set to OFFLINE can only be set online by restoring the file from backup. For more information about restoring a single file, see RESTORE (Transact-SQL)."
But I have not an backup of the datafile, but I have the datafile itself!
What can I do to get it online again, the old location could be fine, but it would be better on an new location (thats is the reason for all the trouble, the original drive has not much space left, so I wanted to move the datafile)
If I run the package from BIDS, it works fine. If I run the package inside Management Studio it works when I run it as a package.
It does NOT run when I schedule the job.

I have a database -- MDB -- with datafile for data and transaction log under the folder d:mssqldata . Now i want to move the data file from d: to e:, say e:mssqldata . Can someone let me know if this is possible under SQL server v7.0 and if so, how
Hi, i try to shrink and remove one datafile. But i always get following error:
Server: Msg 5042, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 The file 'M1Pdata15' cannot be removed because it is not empty.
*********************************************** use M1K go dbcc shrinkfile (M1Pdata15,emptyfile) go use master go Alter database M1K remove file M1Pdata15 go ***********************************************
I obviously did not search the archives on the right terms so what isthe easiest and fastest way to move a 3G database from a nearly full Cdrive to the nearly empty D drive that should have been used.I could back it up, drop it, recreate it using the D drive, and restoreit but it seems like there should be a way to just move the datafileand use if from the new location.I am thinking that detatch/attach is the best method, but I would likeconfirmation or suggestions on how to proceed or things to be aware ofwhen using this method.-- Mark D Powell --
I have written a program that loads a package (SomePackage.dtsx) from the physical drive and executes that. The package does nothing but imports data from a csv file to the Sql server 2005. But I can see that the package is failing continuously. I meant the package.Execute() method is returning a DTSExecResult.Failure. I investigated the Package.Errors property that contains the error collection and found that there are two DTSError objects into the collection.
The first one€™s description says that
Cannot open the datafile "D:SOME.csv".
And the later one€™s is
component "SOURCE FLAT FILE COMPONENT" (1) failed the pre-execute phase and returned error code 0xC020200E.
But the most interesting thing is if I execute the package through the Execute package Utility (double clicking onto the SomePackage.dtsx file) ships with Sql server 2005 then it executes fine and works as expected. I have checked the permission of the csv file and it has everyone€™s full access.
Can anyone help me on this? I will appreciate all kind of suggestions.
I installed Visual Studio 2005 Professional then after that was installed and running, I tried to install the the SQL Server 2005 Developer's Edition which installed but I do not get the SQL Server 2005 Studio Manager. I have remove and reinstalled but it never gets installed. Any ideas?
