When attempting to connect to Reporting Services (SQL2005) with FQDN, the logon prompt fails after 3 attempts:
http://sqlReportServer.mydomain.net/ReportsManager/Pages/Folder.aspx
If use the IP, it prompts for credentials and works:
http://192.168.0.23/ReportsManager/Pages/Folder.aspx
I have checked the SQL instance name and seems good. RDP by FQDN works fine, etc. Any hints?

Hello, when I setup Sql Server, I named my instance FIRE.
When I try to login to sql in .NET using a SqlConnection, opening the connection with:
"Data Source=localhsot;Initial Catalog=Database;Integrated Security=True;" fails, but if I use:
"Data Source=machineNameInstanceName;Initial Catalog=Database;Integrated Security=True;" it succeeds fine.
Does anyone know why this is so?
Thanks,

I am extracting data from an Oracle database and have installed the latest x64 ODAC. When I run the 64 bit dtexec in cmd the package runs fine with no errors, but when creating and executing a SSIS job in the agent it fails. I've tried creating the job using CmdExec as well and I get the same errors:

The CmdExec job step uses the _exact_ same command as the one I execute successfully in cmd:
"c:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90DTSBinnDTExec.exe" /FILE "C:PackagesLoad Dimension Data.dtsx" /MAXCONCURRENT " -1 " /CHECKPOINTING OFF /REPORTING EW
I have managed to find two work arounds, but they are quite ugly:
1) Schedule the package execution using Windows Task Scheduler, basically create a bat file which runs the package.
2) Schedule the package in SQL Server agent, but as T-SQL script and use xp_cmdshell, i.e. EXEC xp_cmdshell 'dtexec /FILE "C:PackagesLoad Dimension Data.dtsx" /MAXCONCURRENT " -1 " /CHECKPOINTING OFF /REPORTING EW'
Both work and use the 64 bit dtexec. Not that elegant though..
CmdExec and the 32 bit version of dtexec works, but is not good enough for me since we bought new hardware and 64 bit software just to be able to address more memory. Has anyone managed to execute a SSIS package successfully using the agent and the 64 bit OraOLEDB.Oracle.1?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Btw, I am using Windows Server 2003 x64 and SQL Server with SP2.

I have two calls to stored procedures that in an SSIS package fails silently. They are simply not executed in production but works fine in test, nothing happens and the sql server agent reports that everything has gone just fine.
In test they have 1 server with db A and B. No issue here.
In prod they have 2 servers with db A and B. On server 1 sql server agent executes a job that includes an SSIS package that on server 2 runs a couple of sp's. That user is db owner on server 2 db B and yet nothing happens. The sp's are not executed.
If I in prod run the job manually then it works, but not when run with the sql server agent account that as said is even db owner.

The DTS works perfectly when I run it manually. However, when I run itas a job it fails. Before you ask if i'm running it under differentsecurity context. I have already made sure of that. I was logged intothe server through remote viewer, when I created and ran the package,as well as scheduling the job. So the accounts they're running underare consistent. They're the same accounts as the SQL Agent is runningunder and it's the sys admin account.The data source is a Fox pro database with a pull of two tables. I amusing Microsoft OLE DB Foxpro driver as my source connection and OLE DBConnection for SQL Server as my destination. I am doing a simple tableto table transformation. The path of my connection is a mapped Drive:E:Main. There are other packages and jobs within my job queue that arepointing to the same database and they seem to run fine using the abovemapped drive. The ONLY difference between this package and otherpackages are that, they're few months old and this one was created lastnight. I have also enabled logging on this package and here is thebelow error when the job fails:Package Steps execution information:Step 'DTSStep_DTSDataPumpTask_1' failedStep Error Source: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Visual FoxProStep Error Description:Invalid path or file name.Step Error code: 80040E21Step Error Help File:Step Error Help Context ID:0Step Execution Started: 9/23/2006 11:39:17 AMStep Execution Completed: 9/23/2006 11:39:17 AMTotal Step Execution Time: 0.031 secondsProgress count in Step: 0

I have a test environment set up at home with a small windows server 2003 Active Directory domain. I created a windows security group on the dc and added myself and another user to the group. I then use this group as a login for SQL Server and add the login to the sysadmin server role. This works exactly as I would expect on the Windows Server computer (which is also the Domain Controller) regardless of which computer I use to connect to this Windows Server computer. However, when I set up the exact same login on the local sql server instance of my client laptop running windows xp pro, the I get an error message (Login failed for user MYDOMAINdgolds...) when I attempt to connect to the local instance of SQL server, even though I am able to connect to the instance on the domain controller with no problems using this same client laptop under the same user account. The only way I am able to connect locally on the laptop under this account (which does not have local admin privileges on any box, for testing purposes) is to add the user account separately as a login, rather than as part of a group. I'm curious as to why being a member of a security group that is part of the sysadmin server role does not allow me to connect to the local instance of SQL Server on this client laptop. The windows server computer is running SQL2k5 Enterprise, and the client laptop is running SQL2k5 developer. Any insight into this would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Dave

I am really at my wits end. I have been trying for days to find an answer to this, and have tried so many things.
I simply keep getting the error that localhost (Phantomlap in my case)/ASPNET cannot access the DB. This is a synopsis:.
Tools I am using:
V Studio 2005, IIS 5.1, XP Pro SP 2, SqlServer 2005 (using the EXPRESS server).
Configurations:
web.config:
<connectionStrings>
<remove name="localsqlserver"/>
<add name="localsqlserver" connectionString="Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|aspnetdb.mdf;Integrated Security=true;User Instance=True"
providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
</connectionStrings>
Website is stored at:
C:Inetpubwwwroot
(within that I have an App_Data folder with following permission):
(I allowed, via security, the ASPNET account read/write access)
SQL Server status:
Phantomlap/aspnet user is added
Phantomlap/aspnet security as just about everything checkmarked
Please note--I am using SQLServer Express--I am not entirely sure I added the ASPNET account correctly--is there a tutorial on how to do this?
Please help,
Kind Regards

I'm running a primary and secondary on sql server 2012 enterprise edition on windows server 2012, and it runs fine except when a network outage occurs.
Then the handshaking keeps failing, the databases on the replica show as not synchronizing and the only way to fix this is to reboot both primary and secondary.
We keep getting 3520's, etc. on the DR error log
How to eliminate all these prod reboots?
I increased query connection timeouts to 60, but saw no change.

Hi,
We have replication setup on a sql server 2000. We encountered issue that the distribution agent goes down (distrib.exe stop running) in the event of network connection broken. We would like to know:
is this the expected result that the distribution agent will go down in the event of communication failure between the distribution server and subscriber server?
if not, is there a way to programmatically control and restart the agent?
Is there any sp in SQL server which can monitor the replication communication error message?
is there any sp in SQL server which can be run to restart the agent?
For the best practice, what do you think we can do to achieve an €˜event-driven€™ kind of mechanism so when an communication breaks, the agent can be restarted by the triggered event (or at least a simple way to automatically restart)?
Thanks

Hello all,
I have 2 networked PC's both running vista ultimate
1st is Laptop and is running its own SQL Server at laptoplaptopSQL
2nd is Desktop and is running its own SQL Server at desktopdesktopSQL
Now both machines have seperate windows login accounts.
When I go SQL Server management studio I go to browse and each machine can see the other machines SQL Server, but when I go to login I get SQL Login falied for users" The user is not associaed with a trusted SQL server connection".
So I then go to logins new login and try to add my other pc's user account.
The problem I see is that when I go to search and then location it only shows its own PC's location and not the location of my other networked pc? So if I am on Desktop and in my theory want to add laptopuser to the desktop SQL Server logins I get:
"create failed for login laptopuser
An exception occurred while executing Transact SQL statement laptopuser is not a valid windows NT name. give the complete name
Not sure on where to go from here.
Any help would be great

Hello,
I'm about googled out on this one. I did find one post that looked almost like mine but the thread was never finished. I'm sure this problem has been solved and I'm just having trouble finding it. Can someone help me?
I'm running sql server 2000 on a small workgroup network of winxp machines.
If sql server machine is the same as webserver machine, my asp.net app works. If sql server and webserver are different, the app fails because of sql server login failure.
I am able to explore the database remotely through server explorer in VStudio2003. However, when I try to access the database with the asp.net application, the login fails. I have tried several connection strings. Authentication on the server is 'mixed', the server runs in the system account, and the password for sa is "" (blank password).
I've tried (for instance)
Application["DBConnectString"] = "server=machinename;uid=sa;pwd=;database=Resume";
and
Application["DBConnectString"] = "server=machinename;integrated security=true;database=Resume";
When "machinename" is the same as the machine on which the app is running. both of those connection strings work, and the application runs correctly.
When "machinename" is different (that is, sql server on a different machine from the webserver), depending on the connection string I get either
"Login failed for user 'sa'."
or
"Login failed for user '(null)'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection."
Obviously VStudio is using some mechanism to add the remote server to it's list of servers and then to allow me manually to explore the databases on that server. Why am I too stoopid to figure it out?
TIA,
Tim

Greetings,
I am developing a package on my local workstation. I have defined two logging service providers. One is for SQL Server and the other is for the Windows Event Log. I am using the Dts.Log method in a script task to write log entries.
Logging is working properly with the SQL Server provider and rows are being inserted into the sysdtslog90 table. However, the only events that are being logged in the Windows Event Log are the package start and end events which I believe SSIS is doing automatically anyway.
Is there something I need to do to enable WIndows Event Log logging other than defining a log provider and making sure it is checked active? Won't SSIS write to two different logs with one Dts.Log call? Any ideas on what might be going wrong with my approach?
Thanks,
BCB

Hello,
I am currently trying to use the Login control in an ASP.NET website with IIS. The control works fine when I am running the website in debug mode within Visual Studio 2005. However, when I create the Virtual Directory in IIS, and try to log in from there, I get an error message as follows:

Exception Details: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Cannot open user default database. Login failed. Login failed for user 'machinenameASPNET'.
The application is very simple. I created a Login.aspx page with a login control on it, and I have the default.aspx page. I used theASP.NET administration tool to change the authentication mode to AspNetSqlProvider (forms authentication), and to create one user (no roles). I am using the default provider with the aspnetdb.mdf database. I have been working on this for a few days now, and have searched this site but have not found a solution that works for me. Any suggestions?

Hey all. I've got a DTS package that's scheduled to run after business hours on the last day of the month. This package copies some tables from an offsite SQL Server, then runs through a series of SQL Statements and finally exports an excel file with the results.
My problem is that the DTS will run if I manually start it, but the scheduled job always fails. Of course, the error I get is that the job failed at step one, and I have no other info.
I'm not a heavy DBA (mor eon the client app side of things), so I'm unsure as to how I can dbug this. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
