Hi,
I am writing a web application in c# that is attempting to get the parameters from a report on a Reporting Services 2005 server.
I am using the following code:
SQLReportViewer.ServerReport.ReportServerCredentials = new ReportCredentials(UserName, UserPassword, UserDomain); SQLReportViewer.ServerReport.ReportPath = Rpt.FileName; SQLReportViewer.ServerReport.ReportServerUrl = new Uri(ServerUrl); Parameters = SQLReportViewer.ServerReport.GetParameters();
The Getparameters Line causes the following exception:
Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.ReportServerException was unhandled by user code Message="Logon failed. (rsLogonFailed)" Source="Microsoft.ReportViewer.WebForms" ErrorCode="rsLogonFailed" StackTrace: at Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.ServerReport.get_Service() at Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.ServerReport.GetExecutionInfo() at Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.ServerReport.GetParameters()
The UserName, UserPassword and UserDomain variables are all populated with correct data, as is Rpt.FileName.
The ReportCredentials class is a very simple implementation of the ICredentials interface - Code shown here:
-->
public class ReportCredentials : IReportServerCredentials { protected string _UserName, _Password, _Domain; public ReportCredentials(string UserName, string Password, string Domain) { _UserName = UserName; _Password = Password; _Domain = Domain; } //***************************************************************** public bool GetFormsCredentials (out System.Net.Cookie AuthCookie, out string UserName, out string Password, out string Authority) { UserName = _UserName; Password = _Password; Authority = _Domain; AuthCookie = null; return (true); } //***************************************************************** public System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity ImpersonationUser { get { return (null); } } //***************************************************************** public ICredentials NetworkCredentials { get{ return (new NetworkCredential(_UserName, _Password, _Domain)); } }
<--
I can use the same credentials to retrieve a list of reports from the report server (the report I am trying to access is in that list) and to log on directly by going to the URL of Reporting Services.
This is made more frustrating by the complete lack of detail in the error message, as it does not say why the logon failed, or give me a single clue about what is going on.
Has anyone seen this before and can tell me how to fix it, or is there something stupid in my code?
Thankyou.
Paul

I am facing a problem which is based on the restrictions on the domain of the customer. After deplyoing the report on the server we are getting the following error message in the report manager after executing (clicking) a report link:
Logon failed.
Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070569)
I googled for that and it seems to be an authentication issue where some user / account is not granted to log on as service / locally, but the problems is better described than the solutions. Did anyone faced that problem so far ? Which account has to be granted what priviledges or permissions in Windows. We are using a SQL Server 2005 / Reporting Services 2005 running on the same machine whereas the virtual directories Reports and Reportserver are running in a separate Application Pool
Thanks,
Thomas

Hello Experts,
I have a database setup with a mirror on a different database server.
When I setup the mirror I recieve logon failure audits as noted below every minute on both the principal and mirror database servers.
The logon failures are associated with the account running the SQL Server service. They are local accounts.
The mirror functions properly but the logged events are annoying.
I have narrowed this issue down to occuring only when I setup a mirror.
How can I prevent these failure audits and continue to use the local user account that runs the SQL service?

After upgrading a server from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005, I can't get any SQL Agent jobs to run, giving logon failed messages. MSSQLSERVER and SQLSERVERAGENT services are set up to run as the same domain account which has administrative rights to the server and is a SQL login with the sysadmin role. For basic testing purposes, I created a test job that all it does is run a T-SQL command 'SELECT @@VERSION'. The job is also set to run as the same account that the Agent is running under. Below are the logs (with trace messages on) from the point of starting the Agent to my attempt to run the job (user and server names have been changed to protect the innocent):

I am trying to connect Sharepoint 2013 services (performancepoint , excel services) to SSAS 2012 using the EffectiveUserName.
I was getting a error message regarding conencting the datasource and when checking profiler it was saying Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.
On the SSAS server i tried using EffectiveUserName in the additional Connection Parameters and it failed for the above reason. I also tried my username as well as the sharepoint service accountthe sharepoint service account and my username are both server admins.
When I try using the EffectiveUserName in the additional Connection Parameters on another server I can connect with no problems.
What seems to be the different with server where I am getting the error message?

Full message:
Connection handshake failed. An OS call failed: (8009030c) 0x8009030c(The logon attempt failed). State 66
Under these conditions, setting trustworthy on on the sending and receiving databases will solve this issue
1) Communicating between multiple instances
2) Using Kerberos security (NT Authentication, i.e. not certificates)

Hi there!
Well this problem it's really driving me nuts!!!
I am using a CrystalReportViewer on a windows application which has an embedded report document...
The report (and the application too) is connected to an SQL Express server which is installed on an MS Small Bussines Server.
The server and the terminal PCs are under the same domain.
The app works flawlessly on the terminals, but when I open the form which contains the report I get prompted for logon to the SQL.. I have tried everything but it refuses to connect and i get a msg box : Logon failed. Please try again.
The sql surface area and the database have been configured to accept remote connections and mixed mode authentication (otherwise my app dosen't run at all), i have created sysadmin users(on the SQL), i have turned off the firewall but it is still refuses to connect.
I would like to mention that I have tested my app on my domain and SBS (I am not sure which version of SQL Server is installed) and I have used the develpment machine for the test. The logon is successful, even with the same account which the application connects (i mean the account included in the connection string)
Any ideas????
I appreciate your time,
thank you very much in advance...

Hi all:
We currently have a production server (prodserver) and backup server (backupserver) in the same domain, and I am attempting to backup dbs from the production box on to the backup box using the following:
backup database db to disk = '\backupservere$ackupdb.bak' with init
when executing from SSMS, I receive the following error:
Msg 3201, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Cannot open backup device '\backupservere$ackupdb.bak' Operating system error 1326 (Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password)
Here's where the issue lies for me:
Both the production and backup box are running services under the same domain accounts, let's call it "domainsqlagent"
domainsqlagent has domain admin rights on backupserver and prodserver
I can login to both the production and backup servers using the domain account, map drives, hit administrative shares, drag and drop files, etc between the servers
If I use xp_cmdshell to try and simply move a file between prodserver and backupserver, I receive the above error as well. However, if I open an cmd window and execute the move command from DOS, it will successfully move.
There is a development server on the domain as well (devserver) using domainsqlagent to run the service accounts, and I can successfully backup databases from dev to prod, dev to backup, backup to dev, backup to prod, prod to dev, but NOT prod to backup
Finally, if I create a maintenance plan in SSMS, I cannot create a connection to the backup server (error reads the connection may not be configured correctly or you may not have the right permissions on this connection)
The backup server was changed to a different domain (domain2) before I arrived here, but has been switched back now, rebooted, service accounts changed via Configuration Manager, services restarted (and rebooted again for good measure).
Does SSMS use a different security context to create the connections to remote servers? From all my tests, the domainsqlagent account has all the correct rights and is working OK. Could this be a network issue? The network admin and I have been banging our heads against a wall for the past couple of days, so if anyone has seen something like this, I'd appreciate any help.
Thanks,
Craig

i tried to set up mirroring having only principal and mirror. mirroring endpoints were easily created for both servers. when i try to add the partner name it responds with
Msg 1418, Level 16, State 1, Line 1The server network address "TCP://machine1.domain.com:5022" can not be reached or does not exist. Check the network address name and that the ports for the local and remote endpoints are operational.
On the log of machine1 i see,
Database Mirroring login attempt by user 'NT AUTHORITYANONYMOUS LOGON.' failed with error: 'Connection handshake failed. The login 'NT AUTHORITYANONYMOUS LOGON' does not have CONNECT permission on the endpoint. State 84.'.
i have similar problems as in
http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1020144&SiteID=1
i am a sysadmin on both SQL Servers and have connect permission on both end points.
Both the endpoints are in started state and listening to all IP's
Both services are as 'Local System'
As per what was mentioned in the above post to add a 'domain/machine$' user did not help.
Tried using setspn.exe to add a new SPN MSSQLsvc/<HOST>:<MIRRORINGPORT> did not work. an ERROR comes 'not enough privileges'
setup shows the following SPN only on both
HOST/Machine name
HOST/Machine name.Domin.com
MSSQLSvc/Machine name.Domin.com:1433
SMTPSVC/Machine name
SMTPSVC/machine name.Domain.com
and on second machine
HOST/Machine name
HOST/Machine name.Domin.com
MSSQLSvc/Machine name.Domin.com:1433
any Clues?

Hello everyone,
I am receiving the above error when using a workstation to connect to my webfiles.
I am using windows authentication (whcih I have selected as my only option on the IIS).
Impersonate is set to true in the webconfig file, with authentication set to Windows.
My connection string is: SQLConnection1 = "initial catalog=SIMS;data source=spacesql;integrated security=SSPI"
It runs no problem when I use the localhost.
It allows me to use other aspx pages that do not connect to the SQL server.
It only gives me this error when I am using a page that tries to connect to the SQL server.
The SQL files reside on a separate server to the IIS and I would like it to remain this way.
Can anyone help me wit this please
Thank you,
Rebecca

I get the following error message when I select a report:
An error has occurred during report processing.
Cannot create a connection to data source 'PSS5'.
Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITYANONYMOUS LOGON'.
My Data source is set to Windows Integrated Security when I get this error message. If I change my data source to be "Credential supplied by the user running the report", the report generates fine. I am running SQL 2005 SP2. I have SQL reporting services installed on different server than my database services. Both servers are W2K3 R2 x64.
My IIS website and virtual directories are set up for Integrated Windows Authentication. My IIS application pool is set up to use an AD service account. I have followed the step/procedures outlined at: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/windowsserver2003/technologies/security/tkerbdel.mspx
http://blogs.msdn.com/sql_protocols/archive/2005/10/12/479871.aspx
http://blogs.msdn.com/sql_protocols/archive/2006/08/10/694657.aspx
but to no avail. I am sure that I am missing something, but I can't figure out what. I would like to use Integrated Authentication, any ideas?

Hello all -
I'm trying to connect to a Sql Server 2005 database from my local development machine, which is running IIS 5.1 (Windows XP Pro). The web application is not using impersonation and has anonymous access enabled. In my system's machine.config file, I've set the processModel section to look like:
<processModel userName="System" password="AutoGenerate" />
This has been working fine for us connecting to SQL Server 2000 databases (running on Windows 2003). When we connect, I access Sql 2000 databases under the context of "OurDomainMyMachineName$". However, we've recently installed Sql Server 2005 on a new Windows 2003 server & when I connect to that server, I receive the error:
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITYANONYMOUS LOGON'
when trying to call the SqlConnection.Open() method. Our connection string is very basic:
Data Source=sql-dev2; Initial Catalog=TestDatabase; Integrated Security=True; Application Name=PrototypeWebservice;
In the Sql Server logins, we've granted the computer account "OurDomainMyMachineName$" db_owner access to every database (in both Sql Server 2000 & 2005).
I am able to connect to the Sql Server 2005 databases if I change my section in machine.config to <processModel userName="OurDominamyPersonalAccount" password="myPersonalPwd"/>, or if I move the application to an IIS6 server & set the application pool identity to NETWORK SERVICE, but we'd like to continue accessing our Sql Server 2005 databases (from our development machines running IIS5.1) as we currently access our Sql Server 2000 databases; under the context of "OurDomainMyMachineName$".
Would anyone have any ideas why this would be happening or how to resolve? Thanks in advance.

Hello,
I have set up 3 servers - Primary, Mirror and Witness. When I run the database mirroring wizard all my endpoints are configured, but when i start the mirroring service i get a 1418 error - in the logs in says -
Database Mirroring login attempt by user 'NT AUTHORITYANONYMOUS LOGON.' failed with error: 'Connection handshake failed. The login 'NT AUTHORITYANONYMOUS LOGON' does not have CONNECT permission on the endpoint. State 84.'. [CLIENT: 10.20.1.5]
I have looked through the BOL and can't find anything helpful. - I'm pretty new to SQL server, so any help is very much appreciated!
Thanks

Hello Guys,
I have two machines that i want to use for merge replication :
Laptop ( Publisher + Distributor )
VPS90 ( Subscriber )
Both connected via the internet
NO DOMAIN
Need to implement merge replication ,after initializing the snapshot I get the following error on both machines :
Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITYANONYMOUS LOGON'. [CLIENT: 192.168.1.1]
I created a new user "Repuser" (admin)with the same password on both machines and configured the Agent proccess to run under that account ,now i get this error :
Login failed for user ''. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection. [CLIENT: 192.168.1.1]
Please note that :
· Mixed mode authentication IS ENABLED ON BOTH MACHINES
· BOTH MACHINES CAN PING AND ACCESS EACH OTHER ,BOTH COMPLEETELY VISIBLE.
· CONFIGURED ALIASES ON BOTH MACHINES.
· Both configured to use Sa account .
* I have NO DOMAIN
what does this mean?
It simply means that the SQL Server Agent process account is the one that€™s being authenticated to connect to the other machine and NOT the Sa account ,WHY?
do i have to use Web Synch in my case?

Fairly new to SSIS.I have created a package in BIDS, and am trying to execute it so i can test/debug the flow and view the data in the data viewers. I continually get a logon failed for user... its the user id i am using to connect to my SourceConnection OLEDB. I have been struggling with this for a while now, and getting frustrated. I tried Windows Authentication also, still i get an error message logon failed for user......
I have tried all of the security settings, from Do not save sensitive to Encrypt all with password, entered the password, and then try to Execute Package from the solution explorer and still get error message. Thanks for your help!
Here is the error message
An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft SQL Native Client" Hresult: 0x80040E4D Description: "Login failed for user 'UserName'.".

I have a logon trigger on a SQL Server 2008 R2 Express Advanced production database to prevent remote logons. The trigger works fine. When I need to connect via my local machine, remotely, I connect via a VPN, can connect with SSMS and do whatever I need. However, if I use a linked server on my local machine (still connected via VPN), I receive the logon error
Msg 17892, Level 14, State 1, Line 1
Logon failed for login 'sa' due to trigger execution.
The trigger is below and it logs any failures, except for the linked server.
If I disable the trigger, the linked server connects ok.
CREATE TRIGGER [tr_MasterLogon]
ON ALL SERVER WITH EXECUTE AS 'sa'
  FOR LOGON
AS
BEGIN
 DECLARE
  @ClientAddress varchar(48) = (SELECT client_net_address

We have a SQL 2000 Active/Passive cluster running on Windows 2000. On one node, everything logs in fine (second node is powered off). I can use local authentication fine in OSQL (-E) and even see my connection in SQLEM current activity as [DomainUser] for the NT account which I am logged in as. Then I bring the second node online and initiate a failover. SQL Server starts but Cluster Admin cannot connect and starts throwing this Anonymous Logon error. I open a command prompt and try the same OSQL (-E) local login and sure enough it is also giving the Anonymous Logon connection user. I do not understand why the failover to a second node is causing the Trusted Connection Local authentication to switch to Anonymous instead of the [DomainUser] which I am using. Any help is appreciated. John.

Hi All,
We seem to be being plagued by the error below by our SQL Server agent. This happens almost everytime we restart the server that has been running for a day or two.
Our SQL Server Agent uses a none expiring domain credential. I understand that this problem only happens when the profile being used by the SQL Servr Agent has changed (password change). What puzzles me is that the login is A ok and no changes has been made to it's password.
We always resolve this problem by changing the login used in the SQL Server Agent to local and after that, returning it back to it's original domain login. Unfortunately, we cant always do this everytime something goes wrong.
Can anyone please help us shed a light on this? We're using SQL2k with SP3a. Thanks!
Error:
An error 1069 - )The service did not start due to logon failure) occurred while performing this service operation on the SQLServerAgent service.
Regards,
Joseph

I need help. The security principal is the correct DomainUser, but the error message says I am not authenticated.
So here is my error Message:
Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITYANONYMOUS LOGON'. Me.User.Identity.Name=CompanyDomainRyan; System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent=CompanyDomainRyan; HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name=CompanyRyan
Generated by:
Dim secPrinc As System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity = System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent
Me.lblError.Text = ex.Message & vbCrLf & vbCrLf & "Me.User.Identity.Name=" & Me.User.Identity.Name & "; System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent=" & secPrinc.Name & "; HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name=" & HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name
Here is the Connection String:
Private ConnString As String = "Server=10.144.162.111;Database=DNS;Trusted_Connection=True"
IIS has 4 websites hosted on it. The parent level allows anonymous with windows auth off, but the website level has anonymous off with widnows auth and digest.
In IIS, is there a problem with having the parent level anonymous and website level windows auth?
