Looking For Table / View That Will Tell Me If I Need To Reinitialize Subscription
Dec 20, 2006
I have kind of unique situation. I am running Merge replication. In one of my publications I am only publishing procedures/functions/views. By design, these do not change that often, but when a programmability object changes, it is scripted in a way so that:
1. The article is dropped from the publication
2. the object is then changed
3. The article is added back to the publication
My question is: Is there a table or view that the subscriber or publisher can see that could tell me if reinitialization needs to occur. I am looking at adding an automated script at the subscriber that makes the determiniation and automatically reinitializes the subscription. My alternative is to force the subscriber to reinitialize every time when synchronizing with this publication, even if nothing has changed because the process has to be automated.
Thanks,
Bill

We have several sites using SQLCE to merge sync. with an SQL 2005 server, and recently a large change was made at the server end. The sites now only seems to upload their changes, but are unable to download any server changes, and the sync fails with the following message (after about half an hour):
A call to SQL Server Reconciler failed. Try to resynchronize.
HRESULT 0x80004005 (29006)
The merge process was unable to create a new generation at the 'Publisher'. Troubleshoot by restarting the synchronization with verbose history logging and specify an output file to which to write.
HRESULT 0x8004501E (0)
I would like to reinitialize the subscriptions using the option to upload any subscriber changes first, but I don't know exactly what this will do. Will it simply re-download the entire database, after uploading any recent changes? This is what I want it to do, but am unable to find any help telling me what exactly 'reinitialize subscription' does.
Many thanks in advance!

When trying to reinitialize a transactional replication subscription I am unable to select the "Generate the new snapshot now" checkbox. This seems to be happening only with SSMS 2014. When I connect to the same server from SSMS 2008 R2 I am able to select this checkbox.

Existing subscription already contains table included in the new subscription.
What are the possible causes of this merge replication error?
Could it be caused by a SQL Server Compact Edition User trying to sync their .sdf file after their subscription has already expired on the SQL Server?
Would you expect to see a different message if a SQL Server Compact Edition user tried to sync a subscriber database (.sdf file) with merge replication if it's been longer than the subscription retention period since their last sync?

I have setup Transnational replication with updatable subscription.
There were around 7000 rows update at subscriber from one query which was executed at subscriber side.
But this update has not taken place at publisher yet and so to other subscribers.
Is there any way i can monitor pending log or where is the issue?
I find so many ways to see pending logs or statistics for - "Publisher to Subscriber" but not for "subscriber to publisher"
What is the way to see subscriber to publisher pending and issues?

SSRS - SP2
We have many reports with cascading multivalue parameters. The reports and the parameters work as expected within the BI development and when deployed to the RS server. The issue we are having is that when we go to the Report Manager webpage for one of these reports and create a New Subscription the report parameters in the subscription field fail to populate. The first one or two parameters may properly populate but the 3rd, 4th, and 5th fail to populate. As a result we can not select the parameters to submit the subscription.
We have two example reports where one report uses only sql (text) and the other report uses only stored procedures. Both reports have 2 or more cascading parameters.
Any known issues with cascading multivalue parameters in the Report Manager subscription view?

I am getting continuous errors in publisher/distributor server
Background: Transactional replication (Push) with one publication (above 30 articles (tables)) and 1 subscriber. Publisher/Distributor is 2008r2 SP2 & Subscriber is 2008r2 sp1
Current Problem:
Repl-Distribution
Message
Replication-Replication Distribution Subsystem: agent PubServername-Production-ProductionReplication-Subscriberservername scheduled for retry (One of the replication job). Query timeout expired.
When I open the replication monitor..In the first tab it is showing performance excellent but when I double click on the publiscation, it is showing errors under distributor to subscriber tab and there are some undistributed commands 5873507, estimated time to apply these commands, based on last performance is 1:06:05:05
Question 1: Do I need to reinitialize the subscriptions? How to find out the problem what went wrong with replication
Question 2: If I want to do any schema changes @publisher do I need to stop the log reader agent and start after the deployment? In my case both publisher/distributor are on the same server (Transactional Replication)

I have a few databases that I replicate between NY and Greece. We utilize merge replication on all SQL 2000 servers. My question, is there a quick way to reinitialize replication besides pushing the initial snapshot? I would like to avoid the initial snapshot in the event of a failure due to the amount of time it takes to transfer over our 3mb ATM circuit.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Hi,
I'm setting up Transaction Replication b/w SQL Server 2K and SQL Server 2K5.
I have published Tables, Views and SPs as articles.
When I try to modify the published Stored procedure, the changes are not replicated.
When I Reinitialize the Subscription and start the Snapshot agent, it is copying the changes
made. But all articles are reinitialized again, So it takes huge time to do this.
Is there any way to just reinitialize only the changed article?
Or Is there any work around for this problem?

If I have one table in one publication in transactional replication
replication between primary and replicate is broken because subscription is marked as inactive.
If there are 3 rows on replicate and 5 rows on primary , out of which 2 are added after replication is broken
If I do
Reinitialize subscriptions
start the snapshot agent
start the distribution agent
Does this mean that it will only transfer the new 2 rows to replicate sites ? or will it drop everything from replicate site and apply all rows from primary site on to replicate.
Any help is appreciated

Hi
I have a web sync merge publication with multiple anonymous subscribers. Unfortunately two of the subscribers have experienced errors as follows.
###############################################
The Merge Agent failed after detecting that retention-based metadata cleanup has deleted metadata at the Subscriber for changes not yet sent to the Publisher. You must reinitialize the subscription (without upload). (Source: MSSQL_REPL, Error number: MSSQL_REPL-2147199401)
###############################################
Now they successfully sync'd within the retention period so I am baffled as to why the cleanup has occured. Unfortunately I can't seem to find a way to reinitialize just a single subscriber. It seems that the only reinitialize option is across all subscribers, which I do not wish to do as they would loose any changes since last sync.
Can anyone shed any light on this.
Cheers

I've been trying to reinitialize the membership database, but something stops me.
I have tried deleting aspnetdb.mdf from the App_Data folder. This works fine, and then a new one is created when I use the asp.net adminstration tool. I can use the server explorer to view the table content (all null).
Although I can open the asp.net configuration page, the problem occurs when I select security. Then I get the error
There is a problem with your selected data store. This can be caused by an invalid server name or credentials, or by insufficient permission. It can also be caused by the role manager feature not being enabled. Click the button below to be redirected to a page where you can choose a new data store. The following message may help in diagnosing the problem: Database 'C:WINDOWSMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727asp.netwebadminfilesApp_DataASPNETDB.MDF' already exists. Could not attach file 'C:Documents and SettingsJeff LeeseMy Documentsworldmy workcurrentcounsellorApp_DataASPNETDB.MDF' as database 'ASPNETDB_devjeffleese'.
All this seems to have happened after I modified my connection info in the web.config file:
<connectionStrings>
<remove name="LocalSqlServer"/>
<add name="LocalSqlServer" connectionString="Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;
 AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|ASPNETDB.MDF;
 user instance=true;
 Integrated Security=True;
 Initial Catalog=ASPNETDB_devjeffleese;"
providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
</connectionStrings>
So, two questions:
1) What are the
 sections about? They seem to have been inserted automatically at some point, and I wonder if its just formatting info or should I remove them?
2) How can I get security going again. How do I deal with the 'already exists' problem that prevents 'attaching' ?
Would greatly appreciate guidance in how to start over...

Hello everyone.
We've been using replication since a while now and I just discovered that some user are not getting all the data they should. Let me explain the way the whole thing is configured for us.
We have a few tables that are replicated using the Merge process with filtering on the data using SUSER_SNAME() function. My users are salesrep using Laptop and they are synchronizing on demand. The merge process is configured so that a row will go to only one subscription --> Each rep has their owns customers and related tables informations.
I noticed that some users do not have locally all data (from their customers) from some tables while they should. I didn't checked in details but it is possible that these users are new reps replacing other staff that left the company. Is it possible that the data they do not receive is marked as to be previous reps owner because the replication is set as "A row from this table will go to only one subscription" ? The new rep uses the same laptop, therefore the exactly same computer name, only the username changes.
Because of this, now I'm having a bunch of conflicts when replicating because we're generating some ID based on existing data when the user enter new records in some tables; since the data is not sitting locally for them, the ID generated is not the proper one and we now have two identical ID (one on the server and one locally) which cause the conflicts to occurs.
Any helps would be appreciated. Thanks.

It seems to me that if a scheduled SSRS report subscription fails ( Status Message - An error has occurred during report processing) , that I actually need to delete the subscription and reconfigure it from scratch. The scheduled job doesn't try to run again automatically (say the next Monday on a weekly Monday schedule).
Is there a way to "reset" a failed subscription without have to recreate the entire subscription?
Thank you

I have scaled out an application so that multiple servers contain identical production databases (various clients use different server databases.)
I have replication configured so that the same tables from these different databases are published into single subscription tables (to provide data warehouse and reporting across all production databases).
The publications are set up to replicate ddl.
Everything works wonderfully except I have just discovered the need to alter the schema of a table that is within the production databases.
When I apply a script to change the ddl in all the publication databases I am getting errors in replication.
I understand that I am NOT supposed to change an uderlying subscription table (this should be done through replication of the schema.)
I suspect that the replication error is caused when the schema changes are replicated from the very first Publication update. What I'm effectively doing is changing the subscription table independently (and prior to) changing the schema of the OTHER (subsequent) publication table schemas.
I experimented and unsubscribed my target table from all but ONE publication, and then my schema change is fine and replication is happy. But when I have multiple publications feeding the subscription I am not able to propagate the schema change across replicating publications without breaking replication.
I am sure that other people out there must have similar situations as mine, where multiple publishers update a single subscription. How are you able to update schema successfully?
Many thanks in advance,
Normajean

We have our replication environment with a separate SQL 2014 publisher, distributor and subscriber. We have a table named DPSP on 14 databases which is to be published via transactional replication to 1 subscription database.
The source tables are identical in name, schema and clustered index. We have created 14 tables in the subscription database with a suffix to the name (see below):
Each table in the subscription database has its own uniquely named primary key and clustered index:
Below are the settings for one of the published article:
The same process is repeated for each DPSP table created in 14 separate publications. Snapshots are generated and subscriptions created successfully. After some time, the log reader starts to show the following errors in replication monitor:

Hi
I'm designing a database for my final year project at University, and have run into a bit of a dilemma with one of the tables. Basically, it's an equipment loan database where both students and lecturers need to be able to book and borrow equipment. To avoid having two separate bookings tables (i.e. StudentBookings and LecturerBookings) I've got students and lecturers combined into one table called 'Borrowers'. The trouble comes because the clients want the lecturer storing in the booking information table, which can get quite messy because lecturer information is stored in the same table as borrower information meaning that I basically need to relate both the Booking.BorrowerID and Booking.LecturerID to Borrowers.BorrowerID.
In theory, I think this could be solved by creating a View called Lecturers that pulls the required information for Lecturers out of the Borrowers table and then link Booking.LecturerID to the ID of the view. In practice, I've got a couple of queries:
1) Is it possible to perform a JOIN on a view in the way that I would need to here?
2) To keep things nice and clear, is it possible to 'rename' the BorrowerID to LecturerID whilst creating the View?
Sorry if some of this isn't too clear. Please ask any questions to clarify what I mean if you need to.
Cheers
Jon

Normally i can use Web Matrix to connect to a SQL table. e.g. Dim queryString As String = "SELECT [MyTable].* FROM [MyTable]"Is is possible to connect to a SQL View. The reason is because i have generated a view using UNIONS and JOINS and some columns are generated by concatenating columns together (ie.. has alias columns).I also need to use VB.NET to refer to these alias columns.

We have a table created by an application, and a view that joins the table with other tables.
For some reason we are now unable to drop the table or the view. In Enterprise Manager the drop table dialog comes up, we click 'Drop All' and then the hour glass comes up and never goes away. No errors are returned, the process just never returns control to the client, the same when trying to remove the view. Using Query Analyzer is no different.
However stopping and starting the server resolves the problem for a while, but eventually the same problem starts happening. The table is created, populated and dropped using stored procedures called from a web page via asp script. This process may occur numerous times and hasn't been a problem until the last day or so when the developer added a couple of smallint columns to the table.
Anyone know what could be the problem here?
