Lookup Transform Not Finding Blank Match

Mar 14, 2006

I am having problems with a lookup transformation. I have a row in my lookup table for blank ('') source data. If I test the join using SQL the match is made, but the Lookup transform doesn't consider it a match and sends it to error output. Is there a property that I don't have set correctly or something else I am forgetting?

Row Yielded No Match During Lookup When Using 2 Columns In Lookup

Jul 24, 2007

I am doing a lookup that requires mapping 2 columns in the column mapping section. When I do this, I get the error "Row yielded no match during lookup" . The SQL that I captured in SQL profiler does find the record when I run it in Management Studio. I have already tried trimming everything to no avail.

Why is this happening?

I tried enabling memory restrictions but then I my package hangs and I get a SQLDUMPER_ERRORLOG.log file with the following logged:

Row Yielded No Match During Lookup While There Is No Row Going Through The Lookup

Sep 29, 2006

Hi all,

I don't understand what's happening here.

I have a Conditional Split with 3 outputs. On the first output I have a lookup, when I execute the package I have 56 rows going through the Conditional Split, all rows are then going to the 2nd and 3rd output but the lookup on the first output generates an error "Row yielded no match during lookup".

I don't understand why the lookup is generating an error while there is no row going through it.

Any idea ?

Sébastien.

Need Help With LOOKUP Transform

Aug 22, 2007

I have a very simple problem I am trying to solve.

I have a table with a "DateEntered" field, and I have an ssis pkg set up to load data from a file into the database table. I just want to make sure that no one loads the same file twice in one day.

For example, if today is 8/22/07, and "DateEntered" is "2007-08-22", then I want to add a Lookup transform to run a query that will check and see if there's any rows in the table with a "DateEntered" is "2007-08-22". If so, don't load the file again!

Here's my query:

SELECT Code
FROM myTable
WHERE DATEADD(dd, DATEDIFF(dd, 0, DateEntered), 0) = DATEADD(dd, DATEDIFF(dd, 0, GETDATE()), 0)

(all the dateadd stuff is doing is removing the time portion from the DateEntered field, so we are comparing apples to apples).

Now, if the query returns a bunch of "Codes" then we know that the data has already been entered for the day! So far, so good.

Now, how do I set up the Lookup to get it to work? I'm getting this error message:
Error 1 Validation error. Data Flow Task: Lookup [1299]: The lookup transform must contain at least one input column joined to a reference column, and none were specified. You must specify at least one join column. FXRateLoader.dtsx 0 0

But I thought I did this! On the columns tab, I have:
Lookup column: code
Lookup operation: Replace 'code'
Output alias: code

I have my error output set to:
Lookup output - redirect row

I don't know what I'm doing, obviously..........!

Need assistance :-)

LookUP Transform...

Dear friends,

I have a ETL that have a Lookup transform to get a rate from a table SpotRates.

The problem is when the match od some date in SpotRates Table doens't exist...

And for that records I need to lookup for next date...

For example...

SpotRate Table

When I first try to lookup the date 17-04-2006, doesnt give me any records... and I need to create a new lookup for the next date from 17-04-2006. And in this example the next date is 18-04-2006.. How can I do it??

I made a sql query date gives me the next date with 2 parameters ... but I'm having some errors...

SELECT TOP 1 Data
FROM Spot_Rates
WHERE (Currencies_Name = ?) AND (Data > CONVERT(DATETIME, ?, 102))
ORDER BY Data DESC

In this exampple, the parameters returned from lookup1 is:

Currencies_name= 'DOLAR ESTADOS UNIDOS'

DATE='17-04-2006'

I need to create a second lookup transform to return the next date/currency for each row that didnt match in the first lookup...

Lookup Transform

Aug 10, 2007

I want to do something relatively simple with SSIS but can't find an easy way to do this (isint it always the case with SSIS )

I have a column lets say called iorg_id, and I want to lookup the matching rows for this col in a table.
In this table iorg_id may have several potential matching rows. In this table there is another col called 'Amount'.
I want to retrieve for each iorg_id the matching iorg_id in the other table but only the row with the largest value in the 'Amount' col.

I couldn't find a way to do this all in the Lookup Transform.
I can match the iorg_ids and retrieve the Amount column, but can't find a way just to retrieve the matching row with the largest value in the Amount col. The only way I can think to do this is then run the output from the Transform through an Aggregate function and determine the Max (although haven't tested this yet).

Seems strange to me in that the SQL in the Advanced tab gives me something like:
select * from
(select * from [dbo].[Table1]) as refTable
where [refTable].[iorg_id] = ?

where I believe the first 'select *' is retrieving all the cols that are listed in the LookupColumns list in the Columns tab.
I thought I would be able to amend this to something like:
select max(amount) from
(select * from [dbo].[Table1]) as refTable
where [refTable].[iorg_id] = ?

but I get a metadata type error.

So, questions are:
Is it possible to do this all in the Lookup Transform are do I have to use the Aggregate function as I think ?
Why is it not possible to amend the sql in the Advanced tab to manipulate the returned data ?

Lookup Transform + Composite Key

Oct 27, 2007

I am trying to digest this logic, and have been unsuccessful so far. I am designing a package for incremental loads, but the destination table has a composite primary key on 2 columns, one of which is nullable. The source data comes from a SPROC. Uptill now, I have been banging my head trying to get this logic to work via the Lookup transform with a conditional split, but it doesn't work. Am I on the right track, or should I be using the SCD Wizard?

As a side note, I have been trying to work a solution using Andrew's blogpost on doing incremental loads: http://sqlblog.com/blogs/andy_leonard/archive/2007/07/09/ssis-design-pattern-incremental-loads.aspx

Thanks.

Lookup Transform With Multiple Matches

Aug 3, 2007

Please indulge my ignorance, as I have only been using SSIS for a couple of weeks.
I'm trying to create a data warehouse using two input tables.
A column needs to be added to one table by using a lookup into the second table.
SSIS seems to handle the "no matches" and "single match" cases perfectly.
I can't for the life of me figure out how to properly handle multiple matches.
SSIS defaults to the first match, but I need to compute the "best" match.

Many thanks in advance
Scott!

Lookup Transform With Variable Parameter

Jun 8, 2006

Is it possible to use a VARIABLE in the Lookup Transform? I am setting the cache mode to partial and have modified the caching SQL statement on the advanced tab to include the parameterized query, but the parameter button only allows me to select columns to map to the parameter. I need to use a variable instead. I see the ParameterMap property of the transform in the advanced editor, but don't see how I can use this to map to a variable.

Can this be done, or do I need to use a new source, sort and left join component to accomplish the same thing?

Thanks!

Error In Lookup Transform (Advice Please!!)

May 14, 2008

Hi,

I get the following error when

i configure the lookup transform in the data flow task "Input column has a data type that cannot be matched".

This is the query that i use to set the reference table dataset

select firstname, lastname, address, email from customers_dimension cd , cust_test ct where cd.address<>ct.address.

I basically want to try and find all those records that have the same firstname, lastname, email in the customer dimension table where the records do not match. Both the input fields and the lookup fields have the same data type [varchar(max)].

It is pretty confusing, so much so that i did the lookup against the exact same table and got the same error.

Does anyone have a better idea as to what the problem is?

Thankyou

P.S.-This is the caching statement in the advanced tab
select * from

(SELECT firstName
FROM Customers_Dimension) as refTable
where [refTable].[firstName] = ?

REPLACE In Derived Column Transform Causing Repeat Data In Rows That Should Be Blank

Jul 25, 2006

W2k3 server, SQL 2005.
@@version = Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.1399.06 (Intel X86)
Standard Edition on Windows NT 5.2
(Build 3790: Service Pack 1)

I have my first SSIS package almost working, but I'm having an odd problem and can't find any information to help resolve it.

I'm importing from a flat file (csv) to an existing table (append). I've got a Derived Column transformation in the middle to do some data cleanup. It's all working except for one little problem...

One of the transformations is 'REPLACE([Column 3],"^","; ")', output to a new column. (The input file has a field that uses carets as delimiters between an unknown number of items; I'm changing that to semicolons for easier reading.) Not all rows have data in this column, some will have one item, some will have multiple items.

The REPLACE works except that it fills in repeated data for all the blank rows.

Example:

Incoming data is:

1 Smith,Jane^Jones,Jane

2 Brown,John

3

4 Adams,James^Adams,Jim

5

6 White,Debra

Data inserted into the table is:

1 Smith,Jane; Jones,Jane

2 Brown,John

3 Brown,John

4 Adams,James; Adams,Jim

5 Adams,James; Adams,Jim

6 White,Debra

I've tried to use a Conditional to skip the empty rows, but I can't get that working at all (get syntax errors no matter what I put in).

Any suggestions on how to fix this would be most appreciated!

Thank you.

Now I want to send the same text file as an email.I Know email can be send using the send email task but i need to know where to place send email task and how to check whether flat file contains the error data.

Can we use the send email task on eventhandler and invoke the same in case of such error "row yielded no match during lookup" so that we can send the such non matching rows as an email.

Or else any other way to send an email after generating the text file ocntaining the non matching rows.

Lookup Transform - Incompatible Data Types Mistery

Lookup Transform Issuing One Select Statement Per Input Row

Oct 20, 2007

I am using the lookup transform with the following settings:

Reference table: Use results of an SQL query. The query retrieves the surrogate key and four business key columns from a dimension table which contains a few thousand rows.

Columns: business keys in the incoming data are mapped to the business keys in the reference table, and the surrogate key is looked up from the reference table.

Advanced: Enable memory restriction is OFF (and the other items on the Advanced tab are greyed out).

I assumed that this means that the lookup transform would cache all of the rows in the SQL query, and then perform the lookups against this cache. This is the behaviour that I saw when I was running the package in my local environment in the BIDS debugger.

However, a colleague was doing some profiling on our production database server, and noticed that the lookup transform is instead issuing a single SQL query for each row of input. Our production ETL server has many GBs of free RAM available (way more than enough to cache the contents of the lookup table in memory), and given that memory restriction is disabled, I don't understand why the lookup transform is behaving in this fashion. Does anyone have an explanation for this? I'm probably misunderstanding a key concept here.

Thanks,

Greg

Fuzzy Lookup Match Issue

May 29, 2007

Hello,

I have a peculiar problem in my project. My project design is like this

The number in (...) are count of records.

File feed (1000)
|
|
Fuzzy Lookup
against Table2
|
|
Split Fz Lookup results
(_Similarity >= 0.60 && _Confidence >= 0.85)
| |

| Write matches to Table1 (250)

|

Fuzzy Group

Remaining rows (750)

|

|

Split Fz Group results

| |

| |

Write Canonicals Write Dupes

to Table2 to Table1

(300) (450)

This is basically a customer de-dupification project.

The Table2 has the canonicals and Table1 has the dupes (of the canonicals).

I already have some data in these tables and the new data is matched against the existing data

in these tables and classified as new customers and duplicate customers.

In the above process one could notice that the rows identified as dupes of already exsting canonicals

by the Fuzzy Lookup task are written into the dupes table (Table1) and will not be processed further down

the line in the project.

But in my case I see that those matches identified by Fuzzy lookup are further being included in the

Fuzzy Grouping also.

When I run this in debug mode in BIDS, it shows the correct numbers as I have depicted in the

illustration above. But, after execution, when I query the tables it shows that all 1000 rows

went through Fuzzy Grouping.

Any thoughts?

Btw, is there anyway to upload attachments to the postings here?

Fuzzy Lookup Misses Possible Match

Apr 10, 2008

I have a fuzzy lookup task that compares a source list of contacts to a reference list of contacts with the default settings. I did some testing by adding seed data that I knew would produce somewhat high similarity hits. All of the seeded contacts but one came back with the expected high sim values. When I looked for the one that didn't, I noticed another match had come up but it had a very low similarity of .17. I then did some research and discovered the reason was the MaxOutputMatchesPerInput setting which was set to 1. I then set it to 3 and reran the package and sure enough my seeded contact that was missing before now showed up. I thought the best match would show up if the MaxOutputMatches was set to 1? That is not the case in my testing.

For example, Donna Mizeman was in the reference list. I added Don Miseman to the source list to seed it. The only match that came back was something like Dieman Abdul .... So the initial match had a similarity of .17 but when MaxOutputMatchesPerInput is set to 3 the best match (seeded) has a similarity of .72.

Anyone have an explanation for this?

Finding Matching Data In One Column That Does Not Match In Another

Nov 18, 2005

I have a table that stores part numbers and manufactuers. Somehow this table has become corrupt showing different manufacturers with the same part numbers.

I know this will take a bit of manual digging to fix, but I want to find a way to pull all rows that have the same part number that have different manufacturers, or just pull up any "duplicate" part numbers and I can determine what is right or wrong as far as the manufactuers and make those changes.

I have tried this, but it does not seem to want to work.

Code:

Select * from my_table
Where partnumber = (select partnumber from my_table) and compName <> (select compName from my_table)

I have tried other variations of the same, but nothing seems to want to show me just the items that have the same part numnbers and different manufacturers. I do not care if there are duplicates of the same part number/manufacturer entries, just if the part number is duplicated where the manufacturers are not the same.

These are the rows I want to edit and group by part number. I have almost a million rows of entries and this is not something I want to go through row by row. :-P

Any ideas?

Can The Match Index Of A Fz Lookup Table Be Partitioned?

Oct 8, 2007

Hello,

The illustration below is for a customer dedupification project.
The Source file, containing customer name and address records, is conditionally split based on 7 ranges of substring(city,1,2) to distribute the load across 7 different threads for parallelization. Each customer record in the source file
is looked up against a reference table named Location_Stage for its existence using the Fuzzy Lookup
transformation.

The reference table Location_Stage has around 10 miilion+ records. The source file would normally have around 1 million
records.

I am wondering :

- if it would be possible to partition the Match Index of the reference table (NOT the reference table) into
7 partitions based on 7 ranges of substring(city,1,2) and maintain these partitions on different drives?
- if it is possible to specify a particular partition to be used by a FzLkup transformation?
- if the partitioning approach will improve the performance of the Fuzzy Lookups?

SQL Equivalent For Excel Match + Lookup Formula

Nov 29, 2007

Hi there,

Not sure if this is the right thread to post this on but here goes:

I currently have an excel file, we will call it price for now. In this file I have details similar to those below:

100 200 300 400

100 $4 $5 $6 $7
200 $20 $30 $40 $50
300 $100 $200 $300 $400
400 $15 $15 $15 $15

At present in Excel, one uses the match and lookup function to determine the price of the length and height dimension. Example: 300 x 200 = $40

How can one perform this same task in SQL 2005? Is this even possible?

Your responses would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

How To Drop Lookup Rows That Have No Exact Match?

Nov 7, 2007

I have a very basic Lookup in my SSIS package that looks up against two columns and outputs a row to a table. Now currently if there is no exact match, it writes a null in my destination table. How do I simply drop all those rows that dont produce an exact match? I tried using the 'Ignore' error output, but with that it writes NULLS into my destination table. With the 'Redirect' it is looking for a place to redirect the error (NULL) rows, and I dont want to deal with the hassle or writing these NULL values to a file or table just to delete them afterwards. I just simply want to forget about all those rows that dont produce an exact hit and only fill in the destination table with those that do produce a hit. How can I drop these lookup rows that dont produce an exact match?

Integration Services :: SSIS Cache Transform Lookup With Multiple Indexes

Jan 16, 2013

I work in the healthcare area, and am handling the survey data ETL's.  There are around 8 different survey areas and based on information received from them for the visit they reference, I want to pull in more info from our invoicing database.  My idea is this:

1.)  Pull in the flat file to an ODBC staging table
2.)  Cache all invoice records that fall between the MIN(Date of Service) and MAX(Date of Service) from the staging table.
3.)  First lookup the information needed on patientID, providerID, date of service, and billing location.
4.)  For the surveys that didn't match on those 4 columns, try looking up based on patientID, date of service, and billing location (since I could be 99% sure this would still return the record I need).
5.)  For the remaining surveys, lookup based just on patientID and date of service.  These records will be flagged for manual review because clearly, if a patient has multiple appointments in the same day, this will be prone to error.

However, in trying to use only 3 of the columns in the lookup, I get the error saying basically that I need to utilize all 4. Is there a way around this, or is there an entirely different way I should be approaching this?  The reason I thought cache transform was the answer is because I will need to run a different package for each lookup, as the data and logic between each survey will vary, but the invoice data "pool" will stay the same regardless.

Lookup Finds Match On Empty Reference Table

Jul 6, 2006

Hi all,

In BOL it says: "The Lookup transformation performs an equi-join between values in the transformation input and values in the reference dataset. Using an equi-join means that each row in the transformation input must match at least one row from the reference dataset. If there is no matching entry in the reference dataset, no join occurs and no values are returned from the reference dataset. This is an error, and the transformation fails, unless it is configured to ignore errors or redirect error rows to the error output. "

I have a lookup transformation which is supposed to find a match on two fields in the reference dataset (a table in my case) but strangely, when I execute my package and the reference table is empty the lookup still finds match for each row of my input dataset.

Does anyone have an idea why? I could'nt find anything about that in BOL.

Sébastien.

Lookup Transformation Fails On DT_STR (3) String Match

Oct 9, 2006

The Lookup Transformation fails to match this datatype when full caching is enabled. When partial caching is activated (Edit > Advanced, Enable Memory Restrictions > Enable Caching) the lookup works.

This appears to be a bug to me.
