Looping Through Several Excel Data Sources In SSIS

I am attempting to use the foreach loop structure in an SSIS package to
loop through however many Excel files are placed in a directory and
then perform an import operation into a SQL table on each of these
files sequentially. The closest model for this that I was able to find
in the MS tutorial used a flat file source rather than Excel. That
involved adding a new expression to the Connection Manager that set the
connection string to the current filename, as provided by the foreach
component. That works just fine, but when I attempt to apply the same
method to an Excel source, rather than a flat file source, I cannot get
it to work. I see the following error associated with the Excel source
on the Data Flow page: "Validation error. Data Flow Task: Excel Source
[1]: The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "Excel
Connection Manager 1" failed with error code 0xC020200." I think that
it's just a matter of getting the right expression, and I thought that
perhaps I should be constructing an expression for ExcelFilePath rather
than the Connection String, but I have fiddled with it for hours and
haven't come up with something that will be accepted. Has anybody out
there been able to do this, or can perhaps refer me to some
documentation that contains an example of what I am trying to do?

I have a requirement where we have to connect to two different data-sources one is Database Table and another one is Excel Source. I know we can do this by creating a SSIS package and loading the excel data into database table and then based on some relationship between the tables we can create the data-set in SSRS. But I am looking for some other approach where I can do this without creating the SSIS package.

I've encountered a few problems using SSIS against non-SQL Server data
sources and was hoping that others might have some experience. Google
searches and browsing MSDN hasn't led me to a solution, so any advice
on the following is appreciated:
1) When using the "Data Source Views" wizard to add a data source
view from an ODBC data source, only tables appear in the object
listing. Views do not. (I've also observed this with SQL Server 2005
databases as well, but it's a bigger issue when you can't use the native SqlClient, as is the case for many ODBC-only databases.) ODBC traces show that both table and
view metadata is being returned to SSIS correctly, so it appears as
though SSIS is filtering out views from the object listing in the
wizard.
2) When creating named queries against (non-SQL Server) ODBC data
sources, SSIS appears to use the SQL Server SQL syntax for referencing
schemas/objects (e.g. "SELECT * FROM [schema].[table]", rather than
"SELECT * FROM schema.table"). This isn't valid SQL in many databases.
Am I missing something? Is there a way to change this through some
configuration setting?

This is indeed the case but why? I would like to see it changed or provide some way of including the data source in some kind of a "solution/project configuration", the same way one can create a "package configuration" right now.
If one can build a project, and create a deployment utility to deploy the entire project (all packages), it is incoceivable why one shouldn't be able to set configurations at a "project" level.
Right now I am having to create package configurations to configure my connection setting for dev/test/prod etc environments. But the trouble is, if I have 10 packages each involving 3 connections in my project, I have only 3 data sources in my project, but come deployment time, I'm having to create 10 package configurations, and set my ConnectionString (which is different for dev/test/prod etc) 30 times during deployment.
If there is a better way to do it, I would like to know. Otherwise, this is what I would like to see in the next SP.

I am new to SSIS. I would like to know if I want to transfer data from one Oracle schema to another Oracle schema and also to do scheduling of the packages, can I still use SSIS? If yes, what are the components that need to be installed on the database server and the development environment? I hope I don't need the full SQL Server database installation in order to use SSIS.

Currently, I am using T-SQL to combine some data and using an ISNULL function like this:
,ISNULL(H.Last_Name, S.PatientLastName)
,ISNULL(H.First_Name, S.PatientFirstName)
I am wanting to change from using a query to move this data to using an SSIS Data Flow. I am familiar with using Merge Join to combine the two tables (H & S in this case), but I'm not sure where I can use the ISNULL in the manner described above. Is there a way to do it in the Merge Join? Do I have to do it after the Merge Join?

I've made a change on my page and i can see the change on the preview its just a drop down list containing the week number.
But i can see to get to deploy these changes when i build my package it builds fine but when i go to deploy it am getting this error message

Hi,
I have the following scenario: N identical Databases (corresponding to different Fiscal Years, with names <Company Name>.<YEAR>). We want to consolidate the N DBs to a New Datawarehouse.
In SSIS we have designed a Dataflow that reads through a OLE DB Source (Connected to one of the N Databases) and maps to a OLE DB Destination (Connected to the NEW DB).
The question is, how we loop in SSIS through the N identical Connections, so to repeatedly execute the designed Dataflow, each time with a different Connection?

Hi,
I'm trying to replicate a SQL join across two seperate data sources in SSIS. If I were to write SQL to do this, it would be as follows:
SELECT Costs.CostRateEntryId,
Costs.UserId,
Costs.HourlyRate * 8 AS DailyCostRate,
Dates.DateKey,
Dates.ActualDate,
FROM Costs
INNER JOIN Dates ON Dates.ActualDate >= Costs.EffectiveDate AND Dates.ActualDate <= Costs.EndDate
Unfortunately, as the tables 'Dates' and 'Costs' are in two seperate SQL2005 systems, I can't really do this. I was hoping that it could be achieved in SSIS, but I cant seem to find any way that I can do a join that's <= or >=.
Can anyone help?

I'm just beginning to use SSIS (bracing for a steep learning curve due to lack of helpful documentation) and am starting out trying use the Import and Export Wizard. On the "Choose a Data Source" page there is a dropdown for the Data Source. I see a list of possible data providers, but not one of "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC drivers," which is the one I wanted to use because I'm trying to connect to an obscure database. So I figured that I need to use ".Net Framework Data Provider for Odbc." Unfortunately, regardless of what I enter for the Connection string or the Dsn or the Driver I invariably get an error, although it's somewhat dependent on that I have entered for those three items.
Either this (when I type in a DSN)
Cannot get the supported data types from the database connection "Dsn=Terrascan_Okanogan_WA".
or this (if I enter a full connection string and a driver)
The operation could not be completed.

Hi guys,
I manage to get the SSIS working. Now I would need to do these tasks.
I first want to get data from 2 different sql servers. What would be the best method to accomplish this? Both are in Sql Server 2005.
Secondly I want to make sure if any of the servers couldn't be found on the network or in any case the getting data task failed for any one of them the package won't continue and an email should be send to an email address.
Thirdly If everything is ok then I should combine both and generate one sequence no for them and save them on to another location and then generate a file with modified values.
Can anyone help me regarding these tasks?

script in SSIS to check data connections/sources and send an email if it fails validation. I found this script online, but I'm not real good with scripting and only VB scripting at that.How can I modify this script or is there another one here that will do what I need. The data connection in question links to Salesforce and will fail validation if the password/security token is invalid.
The reason I need this script is that we have no control over the password changes and need to know if the salesforce team changes the password without informing us.

Please help....
I have different files that are sent from our vendors. Some are TXT and some are XLS. Some will have the same structure. I plan on grouping these together as best as I can.
My main problem is that I would like to go from one source that matches a group of files to a single SQL table. I'm still learning about SSIS and its capabilities. If I can get pointed in the right direction or have an example to work from, that would be great.
I've tried googl'ing to find some step by step, examples, and hints to do this right, but so far I'm at a bit of an impasse.

I'm battling with importing sales data from different ERP systems into a SQL table. I have multiple spreadsheets, which have the same sheet name, column names and formats. I use a for each file loop container to loop through the different files. I use variables passed to a script to pull the relevant source information from the file name. I then use the variables to create derived columns in the flow to indicate the datadate and the company division.
My problem is even though all the data and metadata looks the same, there are a couple of columns between the two spread sheets that alway complain about the metadata not matching or a coumn needing to be added to the external metadata column collection and the same coumn name needs to be removed from the external metadata column collection.
These spreadsheets are coming from different countries but I have gone in and adjusted any fromats that are different from the excel spreadsheet used as the template. The same two columns out of 12 complain and I'm not sure what is causing the error. In the error is
Warning: 0x800470C8 at Read excel File, Excel Source [274]: The external metadata column collection is out of synchronization with the data source columns. The column "COGS" needs to be added to the external metadata column collection.
The "external metadata column "COGS " (2512)" needs to be removed from the external metadata column collection.
Eventually, I'll have 3 spreadsheets to load and need to find out why they are not viewed as the same data and metadata when they apear that way on the surface. I've searched numerous blogs out there (Even Jamie's) and can't find anything.

I have a master table containing details of over 800000 surveys made up of approximately 400 distinct document names and versions. Each document can have as few as 10 questions but as many as 150. Each question represents one row.
My challenge is to create a separate spreadsheet for each of the 400 distinct document names and versions containing all the rows and columns present in the master table. The largest number of rows would be around 150 and therefore each spreadsheet will not be very big.
e.g. in my sample data below, i will need to create individual Excel files named as follows . . .
"Document1Version1.xlsx" containing all the column names and 6 rows for the 6 questions relating to Document 1 version 1
"Document1Version2.xlsx" containing all the column names and 8 rows for the 8 questions relating to Document 1 version 2
"Document2Version1.xlsx" containing all the column names and 4 rows for the 4 questions relating to Document 2 version 1
I assume that one of the first things is to create a lookup of the distinct document names and versions assign some variables and then use this lookup to loop through and sequentially filter the master table data ready for creating the individual Excel files.

In SSIS 2008R2, I have a dataflow with an xlsx source and the destination is a SQL Server 2008R2 table. The files are delivered from a location where staff members 'work with' the source files. The files are produced monthly.
The dataflow that contains the file breaks upon the attempt to process subsequent monthly xlsx files with a message similar to the following:

[TNUQQ [16]] Warning: The external columns for component "TNUQQ" (16) are out of synchronization with the data source columns. The column "F12" needs to be added to the external columns.
The external column "county_taxable_sale_amount" needs to be updated.
The external column "city_taxable_sale_amount" needs to be updated.

The external column "QTY" (62) needs to be removed from the external columns.

I've noticed that some columns in the file ship with no data. A column with no data can be typed as datetime one month, and then float another month. I've tried to load xlsx to raw to table, but that does not work around this issue.
I've tried to set 'ValidateExternalMetadata' to 'False' on the  Excel source, but that does not work either. Aside from going back to the folks who ship the file to us, is there anything that can be done in SSIS to work around this issue, and still wind up with valid data?

I'm downloading zip'd files and would like to loop through each file that was downloaded. I'd also like to unizip each file and append all of them to one file. I have a dos batch that is fairly simple and would like to emulate it using ssis. Here is what the dos batch file looks like.

Good morning all,
I have been dealing with a recurring problem importing Excel data into SSIS. When I pull data in from an Excel source, the data is somehow changed. In the most recent example of this, I was importing about 28,000 rows from a single sheet of Excel data, all of it formatted as Text on the Excel side. The key field, Charge_Code, is an 8 digit numeric field but it may eventually contain alphanumeric identifiers so I am interpreting this as text. The majority of the rows import without any obvious errors; however, about 7,000 of these Charge_Codes are not being passed over into the subsequent components properly. For example, I had a Charge_Code that was 30100100 in my Excel source, but it came across as 30100000.
I've tried a number of tricks to solve this problem, including changing the Jet row sample "guess" parameter and using the IMEX driver directive described here: http://msmvps.com/blogs/nickwienholt/archive/2006/03/15/86379.aspx.
Interestingly enough, if I save the Excel spreadsheet into a CSV and use the resulting CSV file as my data source, these problems disappear.
I have experienced the same type of problem on 2 different computers, using several different packages and Excel sources. Are these problems common to those using Excel as SSIS data sources, and if so are there any reasonable workarounds to solve?

I currently have a export that takes data from my SQL Server 2005 DB and exports it into Excel. This process works correctly. My excel template has the first row headers and the data is dumped in the row after the header. I would like to know if it is possible for me to add borders around my data without doing it within the template? I don't know how much data is going to be exported so I can't put borders within the template. I put borders around the headers to see if it will copy the formatting down to the data and it didn't. Thank You for any help.

I need to do data transfer from three tables in SQL server 2005 to the single Excel sheet as a report. Even If I create a Lists or named range, I couldn't able to transfer the data into the Lists. The idea is, whenever the data is transfered into the Lists, the three Lists (or Range) having data should grow separately.
Currently the data is transfered out of the Lists.

I am using Office 2007 beta. I have a SSIS package that exports the records from sql server to excel file, when number of records is less than 24000 then it exports well, but if number of records is greater than 24000 than it does not export anything to excel file.
But when I give administrative privilages to the service account under which the SSIS package is running, it export even more than 24000.
On prod server giving administrative privilages to service account is not a good option. I don't know what are the minimum permissions it needs while exporting more data into excel 2007 file.
I thought this is the problem in office 2007 beta, but same behaviour is with RTM also.

I am getting an error when an while tranfering data from excel
the error is
[Excel Source [31]] Error: There was an error with output column "Problem Description" (61) on output "Excel Source Output" (39). The column status returned was: "Text was truncated or one or more characters had no match in the target code page.".
[Excel Source [31]] Error: The "output column "Problem Description" (61)" failed because truncation occurred, and the truncation row disposition on "output column "Problem Description" (61)" specifies failure on truncation. A truncation error occurred on the specified object of the specified component.
[DTS.Pipeline] Error: The PrimeOutput method on component "Excel Source" (31) returned error code 0xC020902A. The component returned a failure code when the pipeline engine called PrimeOutput(). The meaning of the failure code is defined by the component, but the error is fatal and the pipeline stopped executing.

I am new to SSIS.
I am interested in using SSIS to import an excel spreadsheet into a SQL server database. My biggest concern is how to handle/manage errors that might occur when the import process occurs. Can anyone give me any guidance on this?
I could write some C# code to do the import and to create a custom .txt file listing errors that occur on import. Using C# code to do the import seems like I would just be reinvinting the wheel so to speak.

Hi , I am facing constant errors while trying to do a simple Export from SQl server database table to Excel File. I am unable to Do any mapping from teh table to the Excel File , if the Column Headers in teh Excel File are not present. Do you have any inputs on how to proceed with the Data Transfer, without having any headers in the Excel File. My requirement doesnt need to have Column headers in teh Excel.

I have problems when exporting data into Excel file from SSIS. It all works fine with numeric columns but an apostrophe is attached at the beginning of each text cell. I tried using derived columns and data conversions but it didn't work. It seems to me that problem is in 'excel destination' task... I saw many people had this kind of problems too... Is there any solution possible?

I made a package in SSIS to copy some data from SQL server 2005 SP2 to Excel 2007. The package works fine, but generate errors. If I replace the OLE DB destination for Excel 2007 with a Excel destination for Excel 2003 then they errors don't appear. The problem is that I have to use Excel 2007 because the data contains more than 65000 records. I thought maybe it was to much date, but if I limit the amount of data with top 100 it also generate errors.

Hi All..
I have an issue where I'm trying to export data from Sql Server tables (or from a result set in a SP or view) into Excel Spreadsheets. Normally I would use a simple data flow to do this. However, I need to do this on-the-fly because the schema of the Sql data is not static. The table could be a different one or the result set would have column schema that is not always the same.
The constant in all of this is that the spreadsheet columns and the table (or result set) column schema is identical. It's just that the column count and column names are not defined at design time, but would need to be defined at runtime.
Going from Excel to Sql Server is simple as I used a Script Task and the SQLBulkCopy class to dynamically transfer the data. However, BOL says that it's only one way (Data to Sql Server). Basically I need the to go the opposite direction now.
I have all of the information (SQL Table server, database, schema, and name and the Excel file path and name) already set up in variables and running through a ForEach container and I can dynamically change the variable information. I just need to figure out how to dynamically map the columns, create the spreadsheet file, and load the data into the spreadsheet. I'm sure this has been tossed around before. If someone could point me in the right direction I would most grateful.

Could you please help me to get the correct value from excel .

Hello,
I have a problem with the Import of an Excel file with SSIS and hope one of you can help me out.
There is a column with mixed data (format is TEXT) in an excel file and I want to import it as Text (DT_WSTR (255)).
So far everything works fine but some fields like "9760020" imports "9.76002e+006".
My settings so far are:
Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=<FileName>;Extended Properties="EXCEL 8.0;HDR=NO;IMEX=1"
In addition I altered the registry entry from Microsoft.Jet.engine.excel
TypeGuessRows to 0 (ImportMixedType = Text)
Has someone got a solution?
