I am using the Management Sudio Express and after I changed my domain password, I lost all of my SQL Server registrations.
I remember this was an old problem with SQL 2000 until a SP fixed it.
Any ideas?

I just started a new job and no one seems to know the SA password.Here's my plan to change it:1. I've run a trace for a couple of days to verify that there are nojobs or processes that are connecting as SA and that would break if Ichanged the password.2. Before the changing the password I am going to bulk copy out thesysxlogins row for SA so that if things go wrong I can reinset the olddata with the old unknown password (will that work?).3. Log on to the console as Windows administrator and changing the SApassword.Does that make sense? Anyone have any other suggestions?Thanks.
View 1 Replies View RelatedOften when I open an SCD component that was previously configured I find that the configurations are lost. The "Input Columns" and the "Key Type" columns on the first screen ("Select a Dimension Table and Keys") are blank. The "Dimension Columns" column is still populated.
If I run the package, the SCD component appears to function the way it was configurated to function. However, the settings cannot be viewed.
Has anyone experienced anything similar? Any ideas why this happens?
Thank you.
More and more often, I am seeing this error message in RS subscriptions. I would assume it means the IIS server can't connect to the corporate exchange server. However I was wondering if there is some timeout setting/configuration in RS or the IIS server (or any other kind of setting) I can change to help alleviate this problem.
Has anyone else experienced this? Or know how to fix it?
Thanks,
Jeff
UPDATE: After looking closer at the subscriptions, I have noticed that subscriptions set up by a RS Admin (who is also a server admin) seem to be working fine. It is the subscriptions that are set up by ordinary users that are failing...
My SQL servers are using integrated windows nt security. Our user account is changing to a new domain. Is there an easy way to change the server logins to point to the new domain instead of removing the user and adding a new login from the new domain.
View 1 Replies View RelatedHi all,I've done some sniffing around but apart from one post in thisnewsgroup haven't been able to find much on this topic.We have recently moved (well, quite a while ago but that's by-the-by)from an NT domain to an AD domain. One of our SQL Servers is stilljoined to the NT domain and, since this domain is soon to bedecommissioned, I need to join this SQL Server to the AD domain.Is there anything I should be on the lookout for WRT this move?As far as I can see, the only thing this would cause an issue withwould be permissions for "logins" etc. This shouldn't be an issue asthe only logins on this SQL Server are either local or from WindowsAuthenticated from our AD domain.Any advice would be greatly appreciated.Many thanks,Ian

We have a Windows server that has 64-bit SQL installed on it. It is placed in 'abc' domain right now.

Is there an automatic way of changing the Domain user password getting used for running the SQL Server as a Domain user account? I'm taking about EM---Security----Domain User name and the password getting used for running the SQL Server?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI know it's not possible, I've read the KBs. But I don't understand why not - from my testing, it looks like the only things that break are the domain groups to which the service logins are added. The service logins can be changed, as can the IPs, and SQL starts up just fine. The only problem is the domain groups.
I saw this KB:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=910708
which says this:
After you install a SQL Server 2005 failover cluster, you can change the service accounts, but you cannot change the domain groups. If you want to use different domain groups, you must uninstall and then reinstall SQL Server 2005.
But it doesn't elaborate, it just says that the groups cannot be changed. Why not? That seems silly to me - it's not just a line in a config file somewhere? Can someone please give me a good reason why the groups cannot be changed?

Greetings,
I have been tasked with changing our local domian name from .com to .local. I want to make sure I understand the risks to SQL server 2000 when i make this change. We use SQL for Great Plains version 8, here is my simple plan:
1. Dis-join all workstations from .com domain
2. Make a full backup of all databases iin SQL server 2000 -- all databases use the SA account and not NT authentication
3. Dis-join SQL server
4. Change domain name
5. Re-join SQL server box and workstations
6. Launch Great Plains and go home happy!
I am having trouble identifying the risk to my plan and am wondering if:
1. SQL will launch under the new domain
2. Will the backup I made restore under the new domian
3. Will I experience authentication problems even though we use the SA account?
I am not a DB admin and am feeling a little unsure about this task any help on the risks or links to "how to" guides would be appreciated.

Hi,
We have the followoing:
-A "master domain" AD, a "sub domain" AD, a trust relationship between the two (sub trust master)
-A sql server 2005 on a win server 2003 in "sub domain" AD
-A linked server to "sub domain" AD
-A linked server login using a "sub domain" admin acccount
-A view to this linked server
-A grant on masterDomain/Domain Users to the database
-A grant on subDomain/Domain Users to the database
-We want all connections done through "Windows Authentication" not "Database Authentication".
Queries on the view work fine using "sub domain" user accounts.
Queries on the view fail using "master domain" user accounts (including master domain admin accounts)
"Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
The OLE DB provider "ADsDSOObject" for linked server "ADSI" reported an error. The provider indicates that the user did not have the permission to perform the operation."
All connections are done through "Windows Authentication" not "Database Authentication".
Can we establish cross domain connectivity with "Windows Authentication" ?
Below are details of the implementation:
SELECT TOP (100) PERCENT *
FROM OPENQUERY(ADSI,
'SELECT displayname, givenName, sn, cn (etc...)
FROM ''LDAP://OU=PEOPLE,DC=subDomain,DC=com''
WHERE objectCategory = ''Person'' AND objectClass = ''user'' ')
EXEC sp_addlinkedsrvlogin @rmtsrvname ='ADSI', @useself='false',
@rmtuser='subDomainAdminAccnt', @rmtpassword='sunDomainAdminAccntPassword';
In SQL Server Mngt Studio in Server Objects/Linked Servers/Providers/ ADSI properties security tab I have:
"connections will: <be made using this security context> Remote login:'subDomainAdminAccnt' With password: 'subDomainAdminAccntPassword'
Error:
Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
The OLE DB provider "ADsDSOObject" for linked server "ADSI" reported an error. The provider indicates that the user did not have the permission to perform the operation.
Msg 7320, Level 16, State 2, Line 1
Cannot execute the query "SELECT displayname, givenName, sn, cn
FROM 'LDAP://OU=PEOPLE,DC=subDomain,DC=com'
WHERE
objectCategory = 'Person'
AND objectClass = 'user'
" against OLE DB provider "ADsDSOObject" for linked server "ADSI".
I have a root domain and child domain.
After using ADMT to migrate the domain user or group into the root domain, when I use enterprise manager to try and change the permissions allocated to that domain user/group, i get the 'Error 15401 NT user or Group not found'.
This is a correct error as the user is now in the root domain, however sql (in sysxlogins) still thinks its in the child domain.
Is there a simpler way, other than collecting the users permissions, deleting the user from SQL then adding back in with the correct domainusername format, then adding the permissions back?
I tried renaming the 'name' in sysxlogins (not recommended) and while that worked, whenever I tried to add the migrated user to another database, the login name was missing and would not resolve.
I believe it is something to do with the SID not matching.
Any ideas on how to fix this ?
we recently migrated from our in-house domain to the Enterprise domain. Everything went smooth except for the fact that I can no longer accept my dBs using my SA or my domain admin account. There is only 1 account I can get into the management studio with but it has no admin privileges, so I can't make any password changes or add accounts. I don't have a test environment so kind of hesitant to experiment with our production system.

Also, sa account does not seems to work for remote access. It is ok when accessing locally.

Does anyone know how to keep xp_sendamil form putting a copy of the mail message in the sent mail folder or an automated process for deleting all mail in the sent folder? As it stands now I must manually delete all messages from the sent mail folder on a daily basis.

Dear all,
I have switched off the firewall settings on my system and as suggested im entering the minimal information and data to send the mail.
but still the Mail Task is failing..
plz suggest.
Hi Everyone,
Hopefully someone out there will have an idea as this is driving me nuts.
I've setup a task to email on success/failure and keep receiving the following message when executed:
Progress: The SendMail task is initiated. - 0 percent complete
[Send Mail Task] Error: An error occurred with the following error message: "Failure sending mail.".
Progress: The SendMail task is completed. - 100 percent complete
Task Send Mail Task failed
When I configure Outlook Express on the same machine with the same settings it works.
On the SMTP Connection Manager I have left the default name, tested with both an IP address and Server Name, and no authentication or SSL.
On the Send Mail Task, it uses the above connection. The To: , From: , Subject fields are populated. Message SourceType is DirectInput, MessageSource is Test, Priority is Normal and no attachments or expressions etc.
Nothing useful is logged in the Event Viewer even with full logging turned on.
Any suggestions appreciated,
Thanks.
Hello,
The Database Mail feature is already enabled on the server, also I have a mail account on the other server.
The problem I faced is that I need to send mail from my SQL Server using a created email account on the other server. How should I configure my email to do that ?
Should I use a sysmail_add_account procedure to enable account, also set profile and profile account ? Does this way creates server mail account that is binded with other email account?
The mail should be sent from my SQL Server.
Thank You.

I keep getting a generic "Error Sending Mail" error. For testing purposes I am just trying to send using my own email account. What goes in the SMTP Server box in the connection manager? I have tried:
A - the exchange server address (SOMETHING.us.company.com)
B - The SMTP properties I see when I look at the properties of my email address: (my.name@abcd.efgh.company.com)
C - Just the end portion of the SMTP properties: (abcd.efgh.company.com)
D - My email address (my.name@company.com)
I don't know what to enter, or what is giving me such a generic error message.

select @message = @message + char(13) + Char(13) + @@servername + '-'+ db_name()+ '-' + 'Backup Status Failed' + Char(13)
EXEC @rv = dbo.xp_smtp_sendmail
@to = @to,
@from = @from,
@message = @message,
@subject = @subject,
@server = @server;
END
GO
--- After the above script is run the following should be given in the 2nd step when
--- the backup jobs are scheduled ------
exec master.dbo.sendmail
@to = 'dvaddi@depaul.edu',
@subject =' Test sqlserver 2000',
@message = '' ;

I know you can specify additional recipients in the To column by sepperating them with a semicolon. But whats the easiest way to send to several users, when the email address must be retrieved from a table with a query like this:
select email from problem_subscribers
where project = 'project1'
and statusmail = 'OnError'
So when the eventhandler gets an OnError i want the mail task to be sent to each problemsubscriber.

I want to send a simple mail using DATABASE MAIL feature in SQL SERVER 2005.
I've defined a public profile.
I've enabled Database Mail stored procedures through the Surface Area Configuration .
but I can't send a mail with sp_send_dbmail stored procedure in 'msdb' database .
when I execute sp_send_dbmail in the Managment Studio the message is
"Mail queued" but the mail is not sent.
Could it be related to Service Broker?Because the Surface Area Configuration indicates:'this inctance does not have a Service Broker endpoint'.If so, how should I make an endpoint?
here is the log file after executing sp_send_dbmail:
1) "DatabaseMail process is started"
2) "The mail could not be sent to the recipients because of the mail server failure. (Sending Mail using Account 2 (2007-03-08T00:49:29). Exception Message: Could not connect to mail server. (No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it)."
